With rune of centaur, you can maintain 100 swiftness without investing in “speedy kits” and it last twice as long.

Unless I’m mistaken the buff is 12 seconds (+20% to swiftness through #3), but the lowest CD you can have is 15 seconds through Med Kit, so you’ll have 3 seconds of downtime?

Colin, I might add please make hot-join 5v5. It’s a heavily requested feature by the sPvP community. I realize you can solo-queue tournaments, but the possibility of ending up against a team ruins it.

Hot-join is what serious PvPers do when they’re bored and not doing tournaments, and generally speaking it would condition and further tournament interest if the format of hot-join was the same as tournaments.

PW/ HS spamming thief and 100 b warrior is more effective that lets say a warrior with 1 handed sword or Thief with cleaver usage of the stealth.

Not in tourneys and high-ranked matches. When all you do is spam 1 ability, you open yourself to predictability. Your opponents always know what you’re going to do, so it’s easy for them to counter.

Most of the top E-Sport games did not become E-Sports within the first month or two.

LoL, HoN, Starcraft (the original probably wasn’t an E-Sport for years), WoW Arenas (if you can call it an E-Sport), etc.

You guys saying people will “jump ship” if GW2 doesn’t push E-Sports now are wrong. This isn’t a subscription game. There is nothing preventing teams from coming back. There is no gear grind to sPvP. You just log in and play. That’s as easy as MMO E-Sports get.

E-Sports in this day of age tend to be defined by what’s popular on Twitch and YouTube. As long as the casting and spectating tools are available, and the game has E-Sport features, E-Sports can thrive for GW2.

GW2 dropped off the front page of Twitch, but that’s not surprising considering it lacks proper E-Sport tools: ladders that are publicly viewable in-game and through a website, casting and spectator tools, etc. Dueling is also important. Dueling won’t increase Twitch viewers but it will attract more serious PvPers because a lot of people view dueling as an important training tool to understanding your opponent’s class mechanics.

An addendum: I think WvW has potential to become a highly-watched E-Sport if you were to give proper scoreboards and ladders that anyone can view in-game or on a website. Additionally make the WvW scores viewable on-screen without having to open a UI interface, so Twitch viewers can see the current score of the stream they’re watching. WvW currently fuels more competitive emotions than sPvP. It fits a niche no other game currently fits.

No auto-attack with kits, working as intended?

How much patience Gilgamesh?

They’ve known about it since BWE1, and said it would be fixed AT LEAST by launch. How much more patience does one need to have? Is the time for patience not over?

Citation please on fixed by launch. I played all 3 betas and paid attention to the beta forums and never read that.

Look, bugs look like this: you have high priority bugs, and you have low priority bugs. You can only fix so many bugs per build. You only have so many developers. My thoughts are this is a low priority bug. Priority is probably determined by how much an effect this has on the game. Does not having an auto-attack for kits break Engineer? Hardly. Many engineers are playing just fine. Thus, as my opinion, this is a low priority bug.

This bug may also be very complex and affect more than just Engineers, considering it could apply to bundles in general.

I’ve been using Speedy Kits for swiftness since day 1. I just spam Med Kit.

As also mentioned, you can have 100% Vigor uptime as well with Speedy Kits and Invigorating Swiftness.

I don’t see them nerfing this, it’s the point of the trait. However, even if they did put a short CD on Speedy Kits we could still maintain easy 100% swiftness through Med Kit’s #5 + Speedy Kits.

Mind you swapping out of grenade kit spam to hit grenade barrage, then swapping back to grenade kit spam, will probably negate any extra damage you got from weapon-buffed grenade barrage. You’ll be down 1 or 2 clicks of normal grenade spam.

But generally speaking, not a bad tip.

My tip for sigil is use Bloodlust. Nothing compares (technically nothing can because any other sigil won’t apply to kits). Build up 25 stacks using rifle, then swap to grenades and you’ll get the 250 power to apply to grenades.

Patience, they’re working on it. Engineer kit auto-attack is honestly probably low on their list of critical bugs to fix. As someone who regularly uses 3-4 kits, it will be nice to have auto-attack on kits but it’s going to make very little difference to my game play. It’s not that much effort to hit #1.

What future siege engines would you like to see?

Gilgamesh.2561

The problem I see with mobile siege equipment: Mesmers (I play one in addition to my Warrior, so you know)

Build 6 mobile flame rams. Stack them all on top of a mesmer portal. Mesmer runs up to keep door and lays down the portal exit. Door goes down in 30 seconds. =/

The solution is as easy as making siege engines, other than golems, not able to use mesmer portals.

The difference in my opinion is that the golem is a vehicle you enter, but siege engines such as ballista/catapult/flame-ram would not be vehicles. You stand behind them and push them. I would imagine controlling a mobile siege engine would give you an extra skill that reads “Push” and allows you to push the siege engine in one direction. If you wanted to go another direction you would have to use the rotate skills first, and then push. This is exactly how the siege engines would be used historically in real-life medieval times. (well technically, they may have been pulled to their destination)

A few ideas:

  • Howitzer – We have the cannon and mortar. A howitzer would be the next tier. It would have the longest range and damage of any siege. As such, its plans would be costly and take a lot of supply.
  • Mobile flame ram, catapult and ballista. They cannot fire while mobile, but should be able to be pushed around very slowly like their real-life historical counterparts that had wheels. When I say slow I mean golem-slow. I would actually like to see current stationary ram/catapult/ballista replaced with mobile. Tyria should have the common-sense and technology to put wheels on those things. Golems would still have an advantage because they attack while moving, jump and travel uneven terrain. (stairs, etc.)
  • Land transporation vehicles — in the form of some Asurian technology or horse carriages. These would travel faster than ground and could carry multiple occupants. Asurian vehicles would allow more occupants and travel faster, but more expensive in cost and supply. Given their advantage for travel, destroying the vehicle would kill all occupants. (which makes sense)
  • Creature-based “siege weapons”. Perhaps an enslaved dragon or giant you could unleash on enemy keeps?

I only play GW2 for sPvP and WvW, so in earnest I can’t really offer much about the PvE.

Why Can't I Switch Class?

I’m waiting for an MMO someday like the Elder Scrolls (say Skryim), where your character can be whatever class/profession you develop them into.

This does diminish the point of having alts. Alts would be mostly cosmetic (as in you roll an alt to have a different appearing character).

Is speedrunning dungeons an exploit?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Gilgamesh.2561

Gilgamesh.2561

I would say, as far as dungeons go, skipping content may be unintended and may be considered an exploit. That’s ArenaNet to say.

However, if you’re running through the entire dungeon quickly without skipping content, then you’re okay — that is assuming you’re not exploiting some mob or boss that happens to be dropping gold or gear worth more than it should be.

General rule-of-thumb regarding exploiting: If the reward is several times greater than the effort, it’s probably unintended and should be reported and not abused.

Gilgamesh.2561

This is silly. Sometimes it’s used as a tactic, sometimes the dead person is actually waiting for a rez. They happen to report on things because they’re dead with nothing better to do, while waiting for a res. I experienced this recently — I actually intended to see how far our trebuchets were hitting, but I was not on a kamikaze mission. I did die however, but I was waiting for a rez from nearby players and/or waiting for one of our nearby waypoints to get out of combat so I could take the waypoint.

That all said, to remove it as a tactic they have two options: make your screen black, or do like some FPS games do and zoom you into first-person view looking at the ground — and perhaps obscure the screen red.

Game is dying, so what are you doing to fix the only content you have?

And are you constantly switching between 2+ kits?

I believe that’s the true strength of an engineer. An Elementalist is locked into their attunement for 10 seconds, but an Engineer is not locked into a kit (there is a 1 second GCD on swapping out of the kit however).

Therefore I treat kits no different than if I had 15-20 extra skills readily available at any given time. Kits are also nice because most kit skills are on relatively low CD, meaning if you’re swapping amongst kits and your weapon chances are your CDs are going to be up all the time.

When leveling I used Med Kit, Flamethrower, Elixir Gun and Tool Kit — and rifle.

The survability is amazing. I could tank 3-4 mobs much higher level than me and have no problems with the amount of control available.

This Guru guide influenced my decisions to try kits heavily:
http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/52982-get-ready-to-quad-kit-zenhs-dynamic-kit-build/

Before then I was using elixirs and pistol/pistol, which is good in its own right if you want a simpler build.

Yeah.. I did some PvP at 16 with my engineer. Very discouraging.

Funny story about this:

I played all 3 beta weekends. In the first beta weekend I only played Mesmer, and liked it a lot.

In the 2nd beta weekend I decided I wanted to try every profession at level 80 via The Mists and sPvP. Over the weekend I tried every single profession and attempted to learn them.

I failed for the most part. I understood the core mechanics but I couldn’t get a true grasp on each profession. I’m a gradual learner, and having all the skills available from the get-go made me choose unwise builds and playstyles.

The funny part is, when I got to engineer in beta weekend 2 I couldn’t like it. I hated engineer. It was confusing with all the skills and kits.

In beta weekend 3 I decided I tested enough of The Mists and should try leveling a single profession. I decided to roll ranger, but somehow ended up rolling an engineer. I think I misclicked during the character creation. I spent so long at customizing the appearance of my character I must have forgot I picked engineer and not ranger. Once in the game I of course realized I was an engineer, but I decided to stick with it for some 5 levels. Those first 5 levels were funny, because I kept thinking I was a ranger due to the fact that Engineer at low levels is mostly ranged combat.

I leveled to 30 in beta weekend 3 and absolutely loved engineer. By gradually leveling in PvE I came to realize how awesome the profession was. I rolled engineer when the game went live and hit 80 with it, and still love it since day 1.

Completely agree with the OP.

I have been having an absolute blast in WvW. It’s unrivaled fun that, really, no other game since DAOC has provided. (the original Alterac Valley was about it)

Every once in awhile I see someone ask in-game or on the forums: “I don’t understand WvW. What is the point of it? The rewards are horrible.”

That simple statement makes me realize there are two types of MMO players:

1. Those who have been conditioned over years of carrot-on-a-stick MMOs into thinking materialistic reward = fun.

2. Those who come from classic MMOs and DAOC who play for the competition and fun, not for the materialism.

Classic MMOs were always about adventure and discovery to me. Modern MMOs seem to be less about this and more about reward. Thank you ArenaNet for being the former and not the latter.

I don’t know where GW2 is headed, but I know it’s headed in the right direction based on what I’ve seen so far as having been level 80 for about 2 weeks.

ArenaNet is very secretative and they don’t talk about the future much, but the game isn’t even a month old so maybe they’re still waiting to unveil news.

WvW is fun as hell and addicting, that I’m certain. I play it just about every night.

Weapon-swapping/stance-dancing is what makes GW2 combat. It’s a core part of the game and is a primary feature of what makes it unique. It’s what sets it apart from other MMOs. In other MMOs you are given 50+ skills to annoy yourself with key binding. In my opinion this makes GW2 not only more RSI-friendly, but the complexity of keybinding — even for a engineer — isn’t that hard.

I have a level 80 engineer and use 3-4 kits for my builds, and I’m capable of switching them rapidly and using whatever skill for the situation. It’s all about conditioning yourself and muscle memory.

My two points of advice:

1. Make sure your weapon-swap and/or “stance” keys are easy to reach and press. It should be among your easiest keys to reflexively press.

2. Level to 80 through PvE. About the worse thing you can do is roll a new profession and head straight to sPvP. You’ll turn yourself off from a profession no faster. PvP is too fast paced for a total beginner. PvE will slowly condition you into how to play the profession and the slow repetitiveness will familiarize you with stance dancing.

Riven’s Twitch footage is even better than a YouTube video. I play Crystal Desert WvW almost every night but was busy tonight, I would have liked to witness this.

I wouldn’t worry about the fact that the player’s name is hidden. ArenaNet’s logs should be able to discern players who are using 3rd party memory hacks. No doubt people on Gate of Madness spoke of this person’s name in their chat logs as well. Speed hacks I would think ArenaNet would have automated bans for, by checking if a player is moving between short distances quickly and consistently.
