Ryfaul – 80 Warrior
Fluene – 80 Mesmer
@MultaniGamer
excellent choice~ just be sure to stick points into that toughness trait in pvp so your not completely defenceless
toughness and defence actually does make a difference there, you may not be able to do as much damage but at least you’ll be able to take enough hits to finish off a downed enemy and run away,
apart from that practice dodging and kiting with your thief and you should be set
@Bobobejumbo
I wouldn’t really call thieves a faceroll profession, they do take a LOT of damage if you get hit with one, and because of that, they require an awful lot of dodging to be good at
fortunately though, thieves get a ton of dodging abilities and crippling skills to help with that but it’s still quite a bit harder than other classes and their high damage skills help them kill quickly, especially if someone is tanking for you
warriors on the other hand, and in my experience, have the defences they need to take quite a bit of damage and because of that, they don’t need to dodge as much, this class is probably your faceroll easy class, although i don’t think it has the same damage output as a thief and for the most part, is melee based
@MultaniGamer
they can both do lots of burst damage, it’s really a question of do you want a hard hitting class that’s easy to play or a NUCLEAR BOMB that’s hard to play

the level scaling thing is also there to prevent higher levels from finishing low leveled events before the lower levels can get exp from them
alot of the end game content is still in the works, the game’s only been released for like a week and a half so it’s kind of expected that all that raiding and what not still isn’t finished
there’s zhaitan and alot of the lower leveled content to do though, but apart from that, they don’t even have all the mini games implemented yet
i would love it so much if i could dual wield staves and use them as pistols while wearing a helm with robes
i could be the odd ball, but the level 70-80 chapter worked just fine for me
i was actually impressed that all those things i did in the earlier part of the story actually came together right at the end in a near perfect fashion
although i do remember something about a mirror although, i just assumed it was brought to them by constant digging and searching
@Paul
the class itself is every bit as good as the thief, just like a skilled thief can kill enemies very quickly, skilled mesmers are capable of manipulating enemies to their death
it’s not really about putting in extra effort to make a class work in my opinion, it’s more or less picking the class that suits your playstyle
well, the point was really to provide challenge, you still get to keep all your skills and gear, but your stats get adjusted down to that level, that way you can take on all those old bosses as if you were new again
apart from that the downscaling isn’t just for you, it’s so that trolls don’t go into newbie areas and roflstomp events before newbies can even get to them
that’s actually one of the things i disliked about ranger
the inability to play it without pets, i think it’s a great class with amazing gameplay, but i didn’t really like the fact that my pet had to but in, in all my glory moments
for me, personally, i went with LOTS AND LOTS of condition damage stacking and a slight reliance on caltrops
generally what happens is in pve, the monsters walk into the caltrops and immediately get hit with 9-20 stacks of bleed and cripple, after which most die very quickly
in pvp, people get sucked into the caltrops with scorpion wire or i just use caltrops right on them which cripples them allowing me to quickly stack more bleeds and poisons onto them
actual players won’t stay on the caltrops for long since people roll out of the caltrops but the movement restriction helps greatly, especially against meleers
EDIT: i forgot to mention, i use dual daggers for death blossom (lets you evade attacks while attacking and inflicts 3 stacks of bleed on every target you hit) and a short bow (lots of spammable aoe and a poison field)

i think they’re still working on most of the carnival mini games, i’m not sure if this counts as a mini game but there’s the seraph training area too
i actually like the way anet handled bringing the community together
in wow, they recently implemented a cross realm feature where players from different lower populated realms can come play together in the same area and so far very few people are happy with that due to issues with kill stealing, taking nodes, competing for quest areas, basicly everything you absolutely hate in a crowded area and on top of that, those low populated realms still have economy issues since that isn’t cross realm
on the flipside, gw2 encourages you to help other players kill enemies since it doesn’t affect loot/exp and actually benefits you more than it does hinder you
on my first character, i did what i did for every other mmo and did a mad rush to get to level 80 just for the sake of having an end game character
that was in my opinion one of the biggest mistakes i ever made in gw2, now that i’m working on my second character and actually playing the game rather than grinding i’ve realized that the game was made to be PLAYED as opposed to subjecting yourself to repeating the same events and grinding to 80 as fast as possible
that’s why the game rewards exp for just about everything you do and interacting with the world, you aren’t supposed to repeat the same events over and over again for supreme exp gain
your supposed to play the game, talk with people, help others with quests, craft items, explore the world, do jumping puzzles, immerser yourself in the story, fight others in pvp, fight for your world in wvw, run around and be free all the while letting your exp bar fill up from doing ALL those things and many more that i haven’t listed
the “end game” isn’t where the game starts in gw2, the game was designed to start right in the beginning when you first step into the world and start running around and talking to people
but of course, i’m sure there’ll be people who refuse to play the game and just want to be level 80 so they could join the elite group of people who probably sit in a city waiting for more things to do while completely bypassing the stuff that was actually presented to them
TL:DR if your expecting something like wow where all the good things and epic storylines come at end game, you’ll be in for a pretty big surprise, grinding to level 80 basicly means you’re just bypassing all the content but that’s fine, you can still go back and do them as if you were that level

I always thought the point of the NPCs were to have extra firepower as opposed to having something tank for you
as for the downed state, I thought that system was for tiny mistakes that you make or if something like poison is killing you after you defeated all your enemies, so your not immediately forced to go back and repair your gear if you die from DoTs
Edit: also, since gw2 is an mmo and not a single player game, it would really help to bring friends and allies along, i’m sure your guild members would be more than happy to assist
