Ryfaul – 80 Warrior
Fluene – 80 Mesmer
“To be, or not to be—that is the question:
Whether ‘tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune
Or to take arms against a sea of troubles
And by opposing end them. To die, to sleep—
No more—and by a sleep to say we end
The heartache, and the thousand natural shocks
That flesh is heir to. ’Tis a consummation
Devoutly to be wished. To die, to sleep—
To sleep—perchance to dream: ay, there’s the rub,
For in that sleep of death what dreams may come
When we have shuffled off this mortal coil,
Must give us pause. There’s the respect
That makes calamity of so long life.
For who would bear the whips and scorns of time,
Th’ oppressor’s wrong, the proud man’s contumely
The pangs of despised love, the law’s delay,
The insolence of office, and the spurns
That patient merit of th’ unworthy takes,
When he himself might his quietus make
With a bare bodkin? Who would fardels bear,
To grunt and sweat under a weary life,
But that the dread of something after death,
The undiscovered country, from whose bourn
No traveller returns, puzzles the will,
And makes us rather bear those ills we have
Than fly to others that we know not of?
Thus conscience does make cowards of us all,
And thus the native hue of resolution
Is sicklied o’er with the pale cast of thought,
And enterprise of great pitch and moment
With this regard their currents turn awry
And lose the name of action. — Soft you now,
The fair Ophelia! — Nymph, in thy orisons
Be all my sins remembered.”
i like ffxi’s implementation of the mentor system
what they did in that game was, you could sign up to be a mentor, and when you activated you got a little tag next to your name to denote your mentor status, then when people looked you up they’d see the mentor tag next to your name
they didn’t have a tag on the minimap/map though, so people only really used it to mentor people
i think in gw2, we should remove the tag from the mini map and have like a special mentor tag show up in the party ui as well as lfg, and maybe even have a new mentor tab in the social window to show who’s mentoring on the current map
sorry about that, they’re listed in my sig, thief, warrior and mesmer
So, me and a friend were dueling each other, with me using my classes and him using his dragonhunter, and I’m having trouble figuring out how to beat it
The main problem I have is with the traps, I’ve been browsing the forums and people have been saying things like just avoid it or don’t walk into it, but the problem I’m having is that the traps auto-activate if your in melee range of the guardian
It SEEMS like an easy fix, just stay out of melee range, but guardians have SO MANY gap closers and pulls that it’s nigh impossible to not get into melee range at some point in the battle, and that’s usually where the battle ends
Guardian GS 5 is a pull
Guardian GS 3 is a gap closer
Guardian F1 is a pull
Judge’s Intervention is basicly thief’s steal
You can evade two of these if your timing is perfect but then your drained of your endurance, after that, you really just kind of have to get lucky but this isn’t even the most annoying part
The thing I find hardest to anticipate is the auto attack CC, it looks like a regular attack but it knocks you back, it’s at this point the guardian can use any of the skills above to reel you into their traps
also longbow 2 hits hard
i don’t think it’s pay to win, when a new expansion comes out for pay to play games, your generally expected to buy said expansion if you want to keep progressing.
so, like, for wow, if you want to get to end game it isn’t enough to just buy the base game, you have to get all the expansions as well, and no one considers that pay to win, mostly because that’s just the natural progression of the game
in gw2’s case, the expansion is actually LESS “pay to win” than other subscription mmos because your still viable without HoT, you just won’t be as competitive as people with access to elite specs
now, this is probably a widely speculated theory, but what if the sons of svanir are capable of influencing jormag in some way?
for example, SoS says no females, and jormag goes “okay, no female ice broods”
i’m not saying SoS controls jormag, they can’t like have him attack hoelbrak or anything, it’s more of jormag going “i have ants following me? might as well make ants happy”, i know this adds a layer of intelligence that the other elder dragons haven’t shown though
i’m a terrible artist and i wanna get better, so i’m thinking about starting doodles and posting them here, if anyone has any advice for me on how i can improve, it would be very VERY much appreciated
also, it’s supposed to be my sylvari
i would cry
my sylvari is one of my favorite characters, and if the majority of sylvari go rogue, i’d feel pretty lonely alone
if MY sylvari goes rogue i would probably just stop playing for a while and start attending therapy sessions
i’d say start as a warrior if your entirely new to mmos, warriors are a very easy class to play because their high defense and hp lets them shrug off most attacks, on top of that you get a skill called healing signet that basicly heals you over time as well as a trait that allows your shouts to heal you for a significant amount
all those benefits mean that you have a lot of room for error when playing in a group, which is great for someone who’s just beginning to play mmos
if you had to pick from the two classes you listed though, i’d go with guardian, they don’t have as much health as a warrior, but they do have heavy armor, a lot of healing skills, a fair bit of defense, and several skills that will remove debuffs from you, it’s not as forgiving as a warrior would be but you do have the benefit of having more burst dps than a warrior, as well as the ability to support your allies by removing their conditions as well
i would not recommend elementalist at all if your new to mmos, elementalists have a very low health pool as well as an extremely low amount of defense and they also rely a lot on switching between a class mechanic called “attunements” for damage, it is a VERY unforgiving class for a new player since you have to deal with the stress of constantly dodging attacks, switching attunements for damage and knowing how to manage your skills properly, this doesn’t mean the class is bad by any means, in fact it has an amazing amount of aoe attacks and provides amazing support in parties, it’s just that it’s a very difficult class to play
here’s my random crackpot theory~ but what if anet intentionally left out sylvari from the new DE group because you, the player, are canonically supposed to be the sylvari member?
i actually liked that little scene with all the LS characters, except the marjory/kasmeer scene
i found that the lack of prior background information prevented me from evoking any sort of emotional response for that specific scene
for example, why wasn’t kasmeer’s background story inserted as tiny, seemingly unimportant fragments of information in previous LS installments, why is kasmeer’s entire background story mentioned NOW of all times, having a random background story pop out like that makes it seem forced and out place
if we knew that kasmeer had a father and brother who greatly influenced her in the back of our minds but only had a minute understanding of events surrounding them, and THEN saw that scene, we’d probably have a much greater emotional understanding of why kasmeer was depressed that day
in my honest opinion, i think elementalist would suit you best
it’s all of the above with the GLARING EXCEPTION of med survivability
fun to play is subjective though, i’d suggest creating an elementalist, then heading into the mists and playing around with skills there, that way you’ll get a better picture of what elementalists are like at level 80 and what they can do
in the mists your automatically bumped up to level 80 with all skills unlocked, and a weapons vendor nearby gives out every single type of weapon for free, but only in the mists
were you thinking of the item skins? because i don’t think that’s considered a gear grind since your basicly just taking the model of one item and sticking it on another
or did you mean the ascended stuff, because those aren’t actually very much better than the exotic stuff, it’s only few stat points in difference, and the fact that there probably won’t be a higher tier than ascended for a VERY VERY long time
either way, the “gear grind” in gw2 is so minimal and so impractical (like you said, 2-3 weeks per ascended piece which is a really short time in my opinion), it may as well not have existed at all
I have maimed an asura thief
-Oscuro
OH GOD HOW COULD YOU!
on topic i mained one because of this~
confusion sounds more like a mesmer thing, so they’d probably have the most confusion spells
retaliation on the other hand sounds more like a guardian thing
those are just guesses though
for me it depends on the content, if it’s like, updates to the world and living story updates i’d rather have those for free
if it was like an expansion to this fabled cantha along with maybe a few new classes and races (or really even just cantha), i would pay for that in a heart beat
i believe a few months ago, it was proven that thieves, not warriors, actually have the highest dps and were very much capable of doing anything a 4 war 1 mes party could do (at least, in CoF)
apart from that, i think people have more or less moved away from the idea that warriors are the only class that matters in pve ever since CoF’s rewards got nerfed, i’ve been seeing alot less posts asking for zerker wars and more of looking for experienced players in gw2lfg
and as far as these “big projects” go… I’m skeptical. Something I’m hearing over and over among players is that ArenaNet’s budget is extremely tiny and all their income from the gemstore and box sales is being syphoned away to other projects like Wildstar. If this is the case, Guild Wars 2 is dead in the water. If 2014 rolls around and there aren’t definite plans for a MASSIVE release… I’m talking new races, new classes, new landmasses to explore, new quests, new hearts, etc etc etc… This game WILL stagnate and people will leave.
i’ve actually heard of this theory that ncsoft is taking all of the sales for gw2 and moving it onto other things
i did believe this theory for a while but then someone explained to me that when you think of gw2’s sales that way, it would be like gw2 is the absolute sole support for ALL of ncsoft’s other mediocre games, i think it would be more accurate to say that ncsoft pools all of the income from all of their games and redistributes it in accordance to which game earns the most, and if it happens to be aion, then so be it
for all we know ncsoft may be giving gw2 a massive income but anet’s just using that to create tons and tons of temporary content for whatever reason
i feel like i’m the only one more inclined to use celestial gear now that it DOESN’T have magic find
yes it was probably an unintentional nerf, but that 2% extra MF on celestial gear always bothered me immensly
I always thought that necromancers kept a nice healthy supply of locust nests in their esophagus
And that’s where the locusts from the war horn 5 skill comes from
Yep, I spent a ton of gold to show my support, already started doing dungeons and other activities for them too
I haven’t seen the exit poll yet but, I’m sure my candidate’s going to win, what do you guys think?
Just wondering, because these are my favorite weapon designs and i’m a fan of soul calibur too
it’s kind of hard thinking of a new class without creating an entirely new weapon given the 8 classes anet came out with practically covers every traditional class ever concieved, at least in my mind
the best thing i could think off would be like, some kind of battle mage class
this class would be a mage in heavy armor in a nutshell
i’d imagine this class would basicly play like a melee-oriented mage, so they’d do things like melee with staves, have aoe spells centered around them and have utility skills that focus on defence, aoe and pulling enemies closer to them
their ranged weapons could be the scepter and dagger, the scepter would be closer to a condition/cc ranged weapon similar to a warrior’s longbow and the dagger would be more direct damage/ burst oriented ranged weapon
As everyone knows, MF, right now, is a stat that the community generally regards as useless
It provides the wearer with a higher drop rate from monsters at the cost of less combat stats, thus making the user less efficient overall in almost every scenario including farming
but what if people who had a higher MF stat affected the drop rate of party members, would this entice more people to wear MF gear since although it makes one person less effective in combat, it improves the drop rate of everyone in the party?
or would this break the game due to a massive influx of rare gear that wouldn’t have been as easily gotten as it is now?
also, if multiple people in the same party wore MF gear, do you guys think that the stat should stack for each person wearing it or should just the person with the highest MF stat be the one to affect the rest of the party
i don’t get this community some times
a-net decides to be nice and gives everyone that bought gems a free dragon bash mini pack
then, all of a sudden it turns into a bribe from anet? do people REALLY see it as some fake gesture to players in an attempt to make themselves look nice?
it couldn’t just be, well, you know, a GIFT?
mursaat
…
i like being a god-like being~
…
well, the other two would probably be:
tengu
and QUUUUAAAAAAAAAAAGGAN!
i like quaggans
at first i thought that this was for free to play games, but then i saw eve on there
and i was incredibly surprised wow didn`t make it onto the list at all, i`m not particularly a major wow fan but i always assumed that it was almost mandatory to put it on every `best mmo` list
that being said, i`m glad that gw2 is still going very strong
in neverwinter you can’t get the best gear without paying in the cash shop.
Also I think someone worked out that you need to use the molten pick about 5000 times to break even on the 4 silver per ori pick. The price is mainly for the effect :p
Tigirious, those other games have loads of rng but it’s put into stuff you actually need to progress.
I remember having to raid for months to get my gear in wow, and in vanilla I never managed to get enough fire res to start MC. You have rose glasses.
If I want good gear in gw2 there are many paths, crafting/dungeons/karma/gold
off topic for a moment, i managed to get 400 armorsmithing, huntsman and weapon smithing, and the only thing i learned from that is that crafting in gw2 is not profitable unless you farm all the materials yourself
it costs 3.89 gold for a berserker orichalcum imbued inscription, which is one of the materials needed to create an exotic weapon
the price of that alone is about as much as the berserker weapon that you make from it already
While I agree that sub games are overpriced, they are so not doing something magical, let me tell you. In other games that are not sub based which I will call F2P those companies make more permanent content and they do it often. There are boxes in those games (with far less RNG mind you) which means they keep more of their players for longer.
There’s also one other thing those other titles have the Anet does not, and that is the non-manipulated means of getting loot/cosmetics/pets etc in the content with far less pain and struggle making the acquisition alot more fun. (you actually get what you want without the content disappearing or it taking months upon months to get to your goals or buying into the RNG game with RL money).
PWE has miles of better benefits to their gameplay even with the concerns over the prices of their store items in the beta NWO, and they have a better economic model then Anet’s highly manipulated and over iniflated TP.
i’d say give it time, NWO’s cash shop will probably turn into something like GW2’s cash shop over the span of like, 4 months
remember, GW2’s cash shop started out like that too, with just exp boosters, a few skins that weren’t in the black lion box and nothing noteworthy inside the box themselves
and over time, the price of gems gradually went up from the previous 30s per 100 gems to the current price of 4g per 100 gems, as well as tickets for untradable skins in the box themselves
i personally don’t mind GW2’s current cash shop model since nothing in the cash shop as of right now gives a clear and distinct advantage over players who don’t pay with real money, although the molten pickaxe did make me raise an eyebrow for a brief moment
technically the broom could be considered a mount, you do ride it after all
i don’t think they’ll ever implement mounts that actually increase your movement speed though
i’m not sure if anyone found this but, i saw a really grumpy cloud at the beginning area on top of a tree, it’s a bit hidden but, not really
it doesn’t seem to be working but does this mean they’ll eventually add a grumpy mode?
are the eyes really that bad?
we are technically looking up at her and that tends to make eyes appear slightly larger than they actually are so they might not even be as big as people are making it out to be
i personally like rox’s model, the eyes are the perfect size between cute kitty eyes and oversized saucer eyes for me, but what really catches my attention is her weapon, i don’t believe i’ve seen a bow like that anywhere in game
yup, i know TC is overflowing, there’s a new thread about it every half an hour
but what about other servers like JQ?
sorry for the odd thread title, that’s the shortest i can make it however
anyways, my question is about the overflow issue people seem to have
is it a guesting issue or a population issue?
i’ve seen alot of people complain about getting booted into overflow lately, and i’ve seen a bit of it myself
cities are somewhat crowded, there’s people wandering around and grinding events, people are rushing to the dragon events for loot, and of course, me going into overflow channels during said dragon events
for a game that’s both dying and dead, that’s quite a feat
i realize alot of people are pinning this on people guesting certain servers, ESPECIALLY TC, but it seems to be affecting a large number of “very high” population servers, which is like, 90% of all the american servers
has it ever occured to anyone that maybe gw2 as a game is actually growing in population?
if you really think about it, even if there’s one “official pve server” that alot of people guest to, large groups people don’t just miraculously show up to other servers like JQ without any reason what so ever
so, what do you guys think? is gw2’s population growing? or are people just all flooding to high population servers through guesting
i’m going to quote myself here for people who still don’t understand how mesmer portals work
there’s a difference between an obstruction between the “player and the portal” and an obstruction between “a portal and a portal”
i’ll now give a demonstration of how portal works now
Player = T
Portal = _
Obstruction = IT I _ _
you can’t use the portal because there’s an obstruction between the player and the portalT I _
there’s nothing obstructing the player and the portal therefore you can use it, however, there is an obstruction between the two portals
there’s a difference between an obstruction between the “player and the portal” and an obstruction between “a portal and a portal”
i’ll now give a demonstration of how portal works now
Player = T
Portal = _
Obstruction = I
T I _ _
you can’t use the portal because there’s an obstruction between the player and the portal
T I _
there’s nothing obstructing the player and the portal therefore you can use it, however, there is an obstruction between the two portals
capes seem kind of weird given that most of the medium/light outfits i’ve encountered are either robes or trench coats,
capes and robes/trench coats just don’t work well together in my opinion
but i can imagine them looking amazing on heavy armor and non-robe/trench coat medium/light armors
What’s the point? leveling up is extremely boring in gw2 so instead of wasting time adding things like that they should give us end game already
this is a legitimate question so don’t take this as an insult
but specificly what sort of end game did you want to see? for example, what did you expect to do at level 80 and what did you expect to get out of it? also how would you be able to pull off this sort of end game without gating the content from other players?
everyone is entitled to an opinion raptor~
some people like him some people don’t, he isn’t exactly professional, but he does have a sort of professional feel when he reviews games, plus some people find his videos funny
not everyone will agree with another person’s opinions~
i’d have to disagree with this idea too, sorry
there’s a number of people that bought this game for pvp, no matter what state it’s in, to make the pvp aspect free would cause alot of anger not only in the pvp community, but to the community in general because it would have allowed many people to “test run” the game before they bought it
out of curiosity, what server does he play on and by any chance has anyone actually tried to join his guild?
i actually heard about his video after launch and expected it to be another rage video about how gw2 sucks and how wow is better, and what not
it really surprised me to see a good review by a somewhat well known independent youtube reviewer, but he doesn’t seem to be the type that would enjoy your typical point and click mmo
i think the player base has pretty well stabilized at this point, there’s always going to be people who expected the game to play out a very specific way, or expect features and content that simply weren’t in the game at launch and those people will leave
over the course of the next few months there’s people who’ll hate the game for one reason or another but stick with it for a while hoping for some kind of miracle update that will have all the features they want in it somehow, and when it doesn’t come within those first few months, they’ll leave
then finally you have the remaining people who genuinely like the game, and from there the player base slowly and gradually increases until the game loses popularity, again
TL:DR gw2 got a huge number of players at launch, a big chunk of those players left causing the player base to rapidly decline and is now slowly climbing back up at a somewhat consistent curve before finally slowly dropping again much later on
i can’t actually find the sources for these any more so until i’m able to locate them or someone else finds them for me, you’re probably going to have to take this at face value
with regards to the level cap being raised, i believe they said that expansion packs would be the perfect time to do that, so they may raise the level cap during expansion packs
the ascended tier however, was meant to be a “filler” tier that bridges the gap between acquiring an exotic and acquiring a legendary
the stat increase over exotics are minimal, and they can’t be socketed the same way you can put runes/sigils into exotic armor/weapons
they also bind on acquire so you can’t sell them on the auction house or trade them away, they’re only purpose is to give the hard core group something to work towards that isn’t quite as intense as getting a legendary, but provides a similar experience
given the feed back to ascended gear there is an almost 100% guaranteed chance that there is nothing higher than ascended save for legendary items which they already stated will be equivalent to the highest tier available
one neat thing they could do in my opinion, is create a special “pvp world” that you could guest on, but not transfer or start on
these worlds would have open pvp similar to the one found in wvw, however, you’d be able to attack everyone on the world, not just people from other servers
You should be a warrior
More ranged damage than a ranger, more defense than a guardian, more dps than a thief
Wanted in literally every party and universally known as the GOD CLASS
Warriors would be the perfect alt for everyone~
In all seriousness though, warriors would be a decent alt for farming dungeons because they are actually one of the best dungeon classes
just a tiny thought, what if along with dailies, we got laurels for every level we gained past 80
Apparently in the original guild wars, the way expansions worked is that each expansion acted almost like a separate game, each expansion containing a different story and taking place in separate continents, and often times, different mechanics and enemies
to actually play guild wars 1, you could purchase any expansion EXCEPT eye of the north, and play through that campaign without the need of any of the prior expansions
players could travel between these continents and take part in the campaigns there if they have multiple expansions
so, there’s a bit of history about the way Anet did their expansions in the past and now i was wondering if you guys think they’ll keep this method of designing expansions for guild wars 2 and how you’d think it would work with the game’s open world
people keep saying wow is better and that it’s the best, and it may be more popular, but even though gw2 isn’t wow it still beats out just about every game before it (aion, tera, swtor just to name a few), it’s an absolutely fantastic game and the developers really showed that they put everything into it
Thanx again for making my point valid; you folks need to try AoC (F2P) and much more polished – yer welcome
I’ve always considered AoC to be a pay to play game, I know they’ve been advertising themselves as free to play for a while, but in order to access all the features in AoC, you have to subscribe and be a premium user, kind of like how runescape advertises itself as a free to play game but restricts content to those who aren’t a member
@FacesOfMu
if i remember correctly fire/ice mages were decent, does that count as a hybrid?
