For the sake of transparency, for those who may be confused about what this WvW Initiative is, please read and respond to the questionnaire below (as this is what every server is presenting to their community):

You can either be supportive of this initiative, or you can go stroke your kittens elsewhere. At the very least, read these questions. You don’t have to answer them here, although I know a lot of the WvW Initiative is reading this now, and may compile your answers.

This thread is absolutely ridiculous, what is wrong with the 5-cap target that’s currently in place? Are you having a hard time generating downs or winning fights in general?

Are you a member of a small roaming / havok group in WvW or something trying to really “5v50”? That ludicrous .

The game mode is currently designed to favor defensive PPT play coupled with seizing objectives, to claim them for your server. Somewhere in between is where you’ll find roamers, havok groups, and large squads.

If you want larger AOE caps hop on an arrow cart, catapult, cannon, mortar, or trebuchet. Those have larger AOE caps by design to allow defensive forces to push back larger forces.

I mean, you’re probably the only guild in this game that makes it a habit to sit in one spot and take necro wells to the face. I don’t know what you’re complaining about when you lack any kind of basic skills. We’ve fought you maybe 20 times in the last two weeks and at this point if you heard TS you’d be as amazed as I am at this complaining (ps I tell everyone to stand around you and spam 1 with guardian staff until you all die)

I don’t think most of you have played the BG pin snipers. they pin snipe but lose the fight all the time. it is not a winning strategy just a losing one. By fixing pin snipers you might actually help the bad servers win a few fights.

Let’s revisit the driver sniping tactic again. It’s a tactic.
Like blobbing down 20 people with 50. Ez.

Every tactic / play has a counter-tactic / counter-play.

You could … Bulk up, Driver Snipe back, Create a back-up driver, or come up with a play that your squad is familiar with, and easy to execute (in the event you get rekt).

One of the plays I use in scenarios where … say, I get rekt b/c I’m bad, or we’re severely overwhelmed … I’ll say “roach!” like a kittenroach. Which means to disperse, scatter, and bite the enemies ankles. Having a single commander with 50+ behind his tag can’t effectively train down 1-person at a time, it will take forever and attrition will come into play. It gives my group a break and a chance to regroup at a designated location whilst continuing to wear down our enemy.

Anet, can you let give players the option to run anonymous in wvw to avoid this annoying tactic that is destroying the game mode. Driver sniping has gotten completely out of hand. Wvw is no longer zerg v zerg. It’s become zerg v driver. As soon a driver gets in range of the enemy, he gets corrupted, CC’ed, pulled, etc. by every one in range. So, what could have been a fun battle, turns into a commander getting killed and his zerg scatters and waits for him to run back. Basically no fun, and no bags, for anyone.

Wouldn’t it make much more sense for wvw players to run anonymous? By anonymous, I mean when you target an enemy player, instead of a detailed headshot and rank, you see no facial detail and a rankless label like “Maguuma Invader.” At least give us the option to toggle on or off what information we want displayed to the enemy.

The build does require a skilled / practiced mesmer. Running a composition to compliment this build also requires selfless, practiced and skilled players to effectively reap the benefits of this build in team comp.

The thing that makes this build unique is that it allows players to experience a much more exciting fight in WvW; not to carry “bad players” or to intentionally compensate for positioning mistakes.

As the commander in the video, I make specific invuln calls to give us an edge in a fight, or to make for a risky play that yields extremely satisfying results. It makes WvW feel like the good old days with a melee ball, a ranged team, and a pick squad (all of which we have dedicated squads).

I’m extremely proud of Pyro and what we’ve done with our composition.

Member Expectations:

Fill composition requirements, run guild builds, if you’re online during our mandatory raid days you’re expected to be there.

Away — Fabled, Veteran, Renowned, Legend that is away for an extended period of time (1-week) … unless otherwise notified member will decay in rank every 2-weeks and will be removed from the roster after 1-month.

Hi fellow gamers & developers,

Here’s my input as you have requested

1. Revert back to the Alpine Borderlands

a.) The desert borderlands continuously make me feel like I’m in Edge Of The Mist, I firmly believe this map shouldn’t be eliminated, but should be an “extra” playable map like Edge Of The Mists.

2. Rewards

a.) Currently the only incentive for me and I’m sure many others is the joy of WvWvW combat and it’s unique quality to this game, that I’ve never experienced. However, that can only last so long, as I’m sure you’ve seen quite a decline in WvW activity & attrition in many WvW communities.

b.) Bringing back seasons and having WvW specific items / achievements or whatever like dungeons, raids, etc … Badges don’t “hype” people up. Those skins you guys released were neat!

3. Population balance

a.) I believe that fixing the borderlands and implementing a much more rewarding system with WvW specific gear, skins, achievements, etc .. will help bring population back into the mix of things and then maybe your population balance isn’t such a difficult task, though it should still be reworked.

b.) I like the idea of combining some of the lower tier servers into the top (4) tiers; all based on my idea of having that “extra” DBL map like EOTM can help keep WvW interesting if the BL & EBG are stacked! (also increase the cap)

4. Stability & skill balance

a.) This is lower on the totem pole. I think the stability rework brought new challenges to WvW but in the grand scheme of things, WvW should have it’s own unique “Stability” like the golden days.

b.) Skill balance I feel is … leveled out, but that can change the second you make stability unique to WvW. These classes that “1” shot people .. please, you guys implemented the dodge function for a reason.

5. Scoring

a.) I’m indifferent about scoring, I like PPK & Bloodlust. Otherwise the scoring system is good.

About Us:

Legends Never [DIE] is a PvX guild with a focus on WvW. We’re a competitive community of players who enjoy all facets of Guild Wars 2. Much of the WvW community knows who we are primarily from our mark left on the server, Sanctum Of Rall.

[DIE] originated from one of the original Fort-Aspenwood WvW guilds under the name “Vincere Est Totum [VeT”; a PvX guild with a heavy focus on WvW. As time went on, we wanted to pursue a more rewarding WvW experience, so we merged with an up & coming WvW / GvG guild “Strident Iconoclast [SIC]” lead by Ser Craig & Brother Alaric. After a month or so, the [VeT] merge split from [SIC] to transfer to Sanctum Of Rall under the tag “Legends Never [DIE]”; lead by Brutus Esaghus, Ser Craig, and Brian The Immortal.

We’ve come full circle by restarting our guild on Fort-Aspenwood.

The food choice is interesting. Does it proc swiftness if you kill an ambient and is there any internal cooldown?

It doesn’t apply swiftness from ambient creatures.

I haven’t noticed a cool-down on the skill, because after a large fight I would find 2-minutes of swiftness (maybe that’s from other classes, but I’m usually out of ranger of those classes in large fights).

It works well with the pack runes though, I always liked this food with LB.

Yeah, a single encounter in WvW is definitely a great demonstration of a build.

I shared the build I was using, in case readers were curious as to what I was using this when I accomplished the kill.

If I really wanted to demonstrate a build, I would not just show-case “1” kill. Trying reading the OP before making the assumption I’m demonstrating a build.

It’s just crazy how that Elementalist went from full health to zero in 1-second.

I used to be a mad skill clicker, and now I’ve improved my skill level 10-fold by being able to key-bind correctly.

It takes a bit of practice, and comes with frustration – but it’s totally worth it, you’ll be able to move more with your camera.

Shortbow is a great weapon to use in WvW.

I would however suggest to have a disengage weapon set, whether you incorporate GS or Sw + (Your choice of Off-Hand).

You will need either Empathetic Bond, or Survival Of The Fittest if you plan on roaming / Havok’ing in WvW – the condi meta is strong out there.

I’ve also just found out that the mesmer runes I have equipped are useless because the +33% duration doesn’t apply since I already have 100% from my traits. I’ll have to explore other runes.

Here’s a second release of my BM WvW Solo Roaming collection.

After experimenting with my first BM build, I have found that the skill “Sick Em’!” actually cancels when you use certain F2 skills on your pet(s). It doesn’t apply to all pets, for instance —> If you cast the Jaguar F2 BEFORE Sic Em’, it doesn’t get rid of the 40% buff. However, if you use a Lynx for example, and use Sic Em’ --> F2, you lose the buff, or if you F2 —> Sic Em’, you also lose the buff.

( Why did you name your video after Sick Em’ then?) To confuse you! DUH! (No, I just like how it sounded )

So I created an entirely new build! It’s a full signet build, with a focus on Daze + Stun traits, as well as integrating celestial gear to take advantage of an overall stat bonus.

You will see similarities bewteen the old build, and the new one, but trust me when I say — this is a much better setup, I have even been able to integrate it into team composition.

I also apologize in advance, there were a lot of warrior and guardians this week; I’ll try looking to find more fights with mesmers, engineers, and necromancers.

I found many drawbacks in this build, actually… I would play it only for fun. Nothing else.
Any decent tactician will deal with this build anyday.

But well, the play is nice. I give you that.

The things this build lacks:
-condition removal (1 minute CD that basically destroys your pet AS BEAST MASTER is very contra-productive)
-weak chasing potential, weak roaming
-lackluster Axe (fails it’s purpose often)
-cannot compete against groups
-has obvious counters (will get outplayed on high lvl play)
-has a very high cooldown Stun-Breaker that is needed for other purposes, too

All things that a PvP build needs for competitive environment. I wouldn’t build for it this way myself. I found twice the effective BM build.

Thanks for the feedback – I’ve been working on improving this build. It’s just a “fun build” I made it because I’m honestly bored with running #meta ranger builds. I would be interested to see your BM build, there aren’t many out there and I know they aren’t used in high level play for a reason. (I did mention this in the first post)

I’ll be releasing another video that features a different BM build, rune set, and pet setup. I got rid of the Sw + Axe OH.

Condition removal is a struggle when you’re not using survival of the fittest, or empathetic bond (which hinders my BM build completely). Although in this video, I may not display the best use of Signet Of Renewal (I will try to save it for when I’m just condi-bombed, or I need a stun-break when I’m caught w/o stability), but it’s unfortunately the only skill rangers have to remove conditions, if we’re not including HS.

To answer your chasing point, I don’t know man, when people try to escape from a fight it’s whatever to me at that point because 95% of the time it’s not strategic, it’s just to get away and save themselves the impending death by BM. If I can’t catch them, it’s not the end of the world, ya know? I’ll move on to the next target. Chasing a NIKE warrior, teleporting theif, or FGS elementalist is a waste of time IMHO.

The only issue I tend to run into using these variants is lack of critical hits. I don’t use the empathetic bond trait because it hinders my pet, and kind-of-ruins the BM build. If you’re good about switching pets (to remove their conditions) then it works well, but man they are useless if they’re chilled, immobilized, etc – which leaves you w/ half your DPS output.

Nice use of the axe. Very good video. I do have a question, when i fight eles, i have a really hard time. They have high boon up time and they heal a lot too, My damage does not seem to keep up. How do you do it? I mean im coming from an spvp point of view.

From an sPvP point of view, it’s really hard I’ll be honest with you. I too have the same issues especially in high rated matches in tPvP and yoloQ.

What I’ll do is try to remain evasive, yet apply pressure to the ele and hit them when their Armor of Earth / Protection is off, allowing me to stun / daze them and burst; then at that point attempt to rotate my poison application to reduce their heals.

Let your pet do the dirty work while you bait them out of their cantrips, and force them to use their cooldowns. I hope this helps, Eles are tough to fight; thats for sure (hell my fights were like 3 minutes long vs. ele in that video)

So I’ll remain evasive in my axe, then burst with this combo (or atleast try to) : Weapon Swap, #5, #2, auto-attack (I’ll save leap for my healing spring), then at the same time, switch to Snow Owl, F2 for pet burst, chill, and quickness.

At that point you should have bursted them down far enough to scare them, and force them to heal; switch to your axe, use axe #4, then axe #5 to pull / DPS. Then re-apply poison w/ sword #3. Then switch to Jag, autoattack on your sword, let your Jag do heavy hits in stealth. Then repeat.

Nice one, Haematic, it’s always cool to see new videos. Don’t forget that using a pet command (F2 ability) removes the sic ’em effect, taking off the 40% damage and move speed bonus.

I personally would run entangle instead of RaO in order to land that pet burst with sic ’em… Well actually I would use owl/raven (for the normal attack into command burst) and signet of the wild (allowing better use of healing power too) but each to his own. I know many people prefer cats.

Also it could be good to start with your pet stowed to get the quickness and other pet swap bonuses on engage.

I thought the Sic’ Em only got canceled if you use it “after” you shout, if you use it before, then shout it doesn’t cancel; right? I try and not-cancel it as much as possible, but I’m sure I cancel it more than I would like :\

I love the stealth from Jag, I just need to world explore some more to get my Snow Owl (my ranger is a PvP ranger). But, the entangle; it doesn’t synchronize well with my Hoelbrek runes. I have tried it, but it’s personal preference for me to use RaO > Entangle for this build specifically.

Hey thanks! I’m unsure what you mean by HS, healing strength?

I use the cleric’s because I was trying to imitate the Valk’s amulet from PvP as much as I could, clerics let’s me do this. It also gives me a power boost (though not much) through my BM trait line, approximately 30 power YIPPEEE – lol. It gives +370hp more than if I don’t use clerics, and it’s mutually beneficial to both me and my pet.

I know I know, no one really sees cleric’s as beneficial as other stat items; what would you suggest as a replacement stat?

Edit: I blanked-out, you meant healing spring. I sometimes switch it up to get some more condition removal, I’ll fight in and-or around it. I’ll have the same healing output (except for the longer cooldown) with my 2-leap finishers.

On the second build, don’t forget that you can use your birds F2 skill immediately after it’s normal attack for a four hit combo (with no delay).

Also I would, for your build, start with my pet stowed to get the additional quickness on the opener.

Although I find the condi build I run (the same as Eurantien) to be more powerful overall, the first build I listed is probably a stronger solo q carry for most people. Beastmastery is the way of the future!

I like that 2nd build you posted, I can only imagine how much damage those birds dish out, haha. Diggin’ the double Leeching sigil too, do you see a huge benefit from that, or is it just personal preference?

Empathic Bond has never been my condition removal of choice with BM/DPS pets. You’re putting too much crap on them (Weakness, Cripple, Chill) for them to effectively dish out the damage that you’ve dedicated so much of your build to.

In response to your comment, your pet loses the conditions when you swap it. With the pet swapping @ 16sec CD, your pet (worst case scenario) would have whatever conditions they pulled for 16 seconds tops, since empathic bond has a 10sec CD. Plus, I think the -condition duration on my Hoelbrak runes carries over, but I don’t really know for sure.

It really helps when I have to play against condition heavy foes; the Signet Of Renewal I use for 2-reasons, stun break, and as a last resort (from forgetting to dodge an entangle, or any other condition burst).

Fort Aspenwood remains a stable server with a target-rich play environment. The GvG scene is growing again with FA guilds leading the way. We’ve received a few more transfers who want in on the action and former FA-ers who are returning, questioning why they ever left.

I was one of these former FA-ers, who had traveled to T5,T4,T3,T2, and T1. Although I wasn’t ever questioning why I ever left – in the end, I knew FA would be the server I return to.

From GvG guilds, WvW guilds, Havok Guilds, and Roamers; FA has an ar·se·nal of players who dominate the battlefield, and a unique array of individuals that make you feel at home every time you enter a border land.
