I respectfully disagree. There are plenty of Mag and SoS groups fighting, and both servers have true EU guilds.
While you don’t see EU queues everyday (has been some this week); there is no shortage of people to fight and things to do at this time.
I’m assuming you want activity + not being blobbed out.

Please stop trying to recruit wouw and just give him an honest answer. T2 has a lot less activity during EU periods than T1. There aren’t “plenty” of EU groups fighting in T2. There are some EU havoc groups and a militia group or two.

If you like smaller scale fights, T2 is great. If you want more activity and larger groups, T1 is great. Neither T1 or T2 is “blobbing” during EU. The major differences are: (1) T1 will have activity on all maps while T2 will have 1-2 empty maps during this time; (2) T1 groups will be larger than T2 groups; and (3) T1 will have some medium/large EU guilds running while T2 will have some small/havoc guilds running.

Both SoS and TC are good servers. You just need to pick which style of play is more appealing.

SoS has traditionally had a strong Oceanic crew. They don’t have a lot of EU coverage and a good chunk of their SEA coverage is Oceanic players putting in late hours (which means their early SEA coverage is a lot stronger than their late SEA coverage).

TC has decent OCX and SEA numbers, and a very strong EU (with several EU-focused guilds).

Of the two, TC has more balance between these periods. Both have good NA coverage if that matters.

Also, keep in mind the tier differences. T2 has much lower overall SEA/EU populations than T1, which means fewer opponents to fight during these time periods.

These guys make a big difference when they’re running on a map. They’re a great blend of fun and very serious WvW action. A great choice for anyone looking for a change from their current server/guild.

I’d highly recommend [Meat] to anyone who likes havoc and small-group fights. Really effective group and a blast to have on the map (although all business when it comes to WvW).

BG, JQ, and TC all have strong EU coverage and guilds. Other than that it’s pretty hit-or-miss with most NA servers right now during that time slot.

Tier 1 – BG has the best EU coverage

T2 – TC has the best EU coverage (they even have an [EU] guild)

None of the NA T3 or below servers have much dedicated EU coverage

Great post. Every server struggles with this stuff and it tends to get masked by pop differences. TC spent months getting rolled by BG, KN, SoR, etc., before some of this finally started to sink in.

The biggest difference I see between SoS and CD isn’t population, it’s that SoS spent months in T1. They lost a lot of people, but the ones that stayed know the importance of the things you mentioned. When we fight them on even terms, it’s a coin flip (and that may be generous to TC).

I know the match-up sucks this week for everyone, but thanks to CD and SoS for continuing to come out and fight.

Why do people start these types of threads? They always seem to lead to drama and rarely provide any useful information.

All of the servers you are considering have recruitment threads with contact information. I assume you have scouts on all of them as well. Not sure what information you’ll glean from this thread beyond that, but best of luck nonetheless.

All the servers you are considering are great. None are perfect. It’s just a matter of finding a good fit for your particular guild.

I would like to thank the 8 TC that let me and another mesmer roll them in a 2v8 outside of SM last night. In all fairness, we do have the exact same characters (makeover kit 4tw) armor set, colors, spec and weapons.

Yes I /laughed at you many times. No I do not care about your feelings. It was a challenge at least. Tip for future mesmer fights, look for the weapon stacks and place targets on the correct mesmers.

This matchup is beginning to suck. When TC and SOS are out in force, its a ton of fun, sadly, SoR as a server just completely outmans those two and its impossible to get in passed the hour+ long queues.

SOR doesn’t really need to have hour+ long queues for this match up. Go grab a beer, or take a walk outside. If you throttle back a bit maybe TC and SoS can field some decent resistance for short bursts. At this rate, though, our WvW pop is going to fall not grow and the rest of the week is going to be even more boring.

Lots of respect to SOR for building up such a great WvW server, but you are going to be bored to death every week from here on out unless you happen to draw BG and JQ. Not sure what the solution is (absent Anet changing the system), but this is the new normal for WvW now.

LOL at TC complaining we’re attacking them, last week we had TC spawn camping us on EB while leaving FA completely alone and unmanned while they would not even let us start siegerazer/crusher.

Yup, we have a secret alliance with FA. Best buds. And we constantly spawn camp lower pop servers. It’s the TC way.

I hope SoS attacks us more often. No complaints from me.

In a way I feel sorry for SoR. Unless the Anet lottery hooks you up with JQ and BG, it’s going to be really tough for you to find a good fight. We’re trying our best on TC, but you guys are just crazy strong (both in numbers and skill). I think most of us on TC are having fun despite the lopsided match up, but we have a bit of a masochistic streak.

Tier 2 has the TIGHTEST ppt total of ALL tiers in NA.

How is the Tier NOT competitive?

Whew, I’m just glad Anet is going to fix the ranking system so we won’t have to endure such competitive matches in T2 anymore. Can’t wait for the SoR/TC/Mag funfest. J/K – will be nice to have some new opponents, although T2 really is a blast right now.

Hate to see you guys leave Kaineng, but best of luck. Lots of fond memories fighting against you in T2 for so many weeks.

Totally unsolicited advice, but I’d steer clear of servers that give you the hard sell. Look for a good community that you respect. Whether a server is “full” or in a certain tier is pretty irrelevant over the long run. If you find a place that feels right, go there and have a blast.

I’m biased of course so take this with a grain of salt, but during the hours I usually play I don’t really feel threatened too much by the TC zerg. You guys play a great PPT game, but your tactical execution is middling. . . . If TC were to turn a corner with her tactical metagame, she could be ridiculously powerful.

Unless you play 24/7, 7 days a week, on all 4 maps simultaneously, it’s hard to accurately gauge the level of play on any server. TC has some great commanders/guilds who execute complex strategies without a hitch. It also has zergs that run around like headless chickens. Same with every server.

The only real difference I’ve ever seen is that some servers are dominated by guild groups and others have more of a broad-based WvW following. Pros and cons to both. Having played on or against almost every server in the top 4 NA tiers, I’d stack our WvW guilds up against any of them.

My impression:

T1 – all three severs have active EU timeslots. Prior to recent transfers, I would have ranked them BG, JQ, SoR. That’s likely changed since [IRON] transferred. Can’t go wrong with any of them.

T2 – TC has a lot of EU players. My sense is that DB and FA have fewer EU players but both benefit from spill-over (DB’s SEA group is often around during EU time, and FA has a really strong US EST group). Still, generally lots of action during EU time.

T3-T4 — I don’t believe any servers in these tiers have a lot of EU players, although I’m sure they field decent numbers during EU time from NA/SEA players.

Good luck with your choice. I can tell you EU players are welcomed with open arms on NA servers (and not just b/c of their great accents).

You should fix your statement to say simply “You can’t roll up to a gate with a force of any size and expect to use rams to take it.”

That’s just not true. I’ve seen several keeps/towers taken with rams since the patch. The difference now is that a determined group of defenders can make it a real pain if (big if) they are prepared.

We took down the inner and outer gates at Bay yesterday with rams, but it was tough. We had to resupply twice. We eventually lost the fight in the lord’s room, but the siege was a blast and took a lot of effort from both sides. Some people like that, some don’t.

I understand your points, I just don’t agree with them. Either way, it will all work itself out in the end (either because people adjust or because Anet changes AC damage/range).

The AC changes force you to adopt new strategies. You can’t just roll your zerg up to the front gates now, drop a few sup rams, and expect to take a keep/tower. Give it some time and people will come up with new ways to deal with AC’s and things will be fine (plus it sounds like Anet is already addressing the issue of AC damage against other siege, which is really the only thing broken about it right now).

Having fought against Kaineng in T2 for quite awhile, just wanted to say they are a classy group and put up a great fight. If you’re looking to move to another server, they would be a good option.

my issue is more with the current siege despawn rate at 30 minutes. If you are outnumbered on a map it is extremely difficult to keep siege alive with the current rate at which they despawn and this is made next to impossible if you have to defend a structure for any extended amount of time. This timer should be doubled at least IMO.

Siege despawn rates are so incredibly annoying. It hurts underpopulated servers and forces someone to stand around bored out of their mind ticking siege rather than enjoying the game. Would really like to see Anet adjust the rate or come up with some other mechanism (like guild influence).

Apparently they are using some sort of multi-server mesmer portal, because according to really, really , really reliable forum reports they are also on Blackgate, SoR, an unidentified EU server, getting ready to fight the North Koreans, and leaving the game entirely all at the same time.

The difference is that the IoJ guilds came to us. We didn’t approach them. I’m not too familiar with how KN got theirs…but the reason for this drama (at least my understanding) is that it became quite apparent (from quite a few posts now) that TC will gladly cripple other servers to make their server even bigger for that precious win.

Please stop. There are entire threads on the FA forums devoted to recruiting guilds away from other servers. One of your guild leaders bragged about setting up meetings with a KN guild (Ph I believe) and approaching several others. She was applauded for her efforts.

I have fond memories of FA just whining about TC having no skill.

TC got rolled for months in T2, but we kept showing up and fighting. FA has enough people to win, you just don’t seem to be able to get them out for WvW (which I think is odd for a server that prides itself on its ability to farm bags from us RP’ers).

Just wanted to chime in. [KH] is really a great guild with a lot of fun people. If you’re on TC or thinking of coming here, definitely give them a close look.

For people that want to look at the FA community forums its fort-aspenwood.com.

Their WvW section also has a match up thread (where they spend most of their time mocking TC for wearing wizard hats and running away from fights), a couple of neat threads about the strength of the FA community, and a recruitment thread where they talk about how to get more SEA coverage and convince Kaineng guilds to join them.

Big deal.

Can we please stop acting offended that people from other servers are curious about what goes on in our communities. As long as people are respectful and don’t intrude in the conversations, what’s the harm of having visitors on your forums?

Bad thing is 15-20 boost from multi guilds for TC will just lead them to a bigger point spread and a possible T1 visit soon enough.

None of us is leaving T2 any time soon absent a melt down (TC is 142 rating points behind BG). I know some folks want to push this idea, but the reality is we’re all stuck with each other for the foreseeable future. Personally, I think that’s a good thing.

We’ve been the “more powerful server” for a whopping week now. People act like TC is dominating T2. We’ve won one time and were behind FA until last night. Our T2 record is 1-3-11.

Things fluctuate. I’ve no doubt FA or KN will knock us out of the top spot at some point. That’s what makes T2 so much fun right now.

It’s about the same on TC. Friday we’ll have long queues on all maps. After that we’ll have short queues (5-15 min generally) on EB and TC BL during portions of NA prime time. We rarely have queues on the other BL’s, and if so they’re never more than a few minutes.

No offense, but that is a weak justification. I watched that same situation unfold yesterday with TC and FA. There is a bunch of ways those situations could have played out for the same net PPT benefits you claim you are playing for, that does not involve running in like lemmings. I see no justification for that type of play at all, it was bad.

I’m confused. We’ve got some folks saying TC players are too afraid to die and won’t fight. We’ve got others saying we’re reckless and throw ourselves into fights without any hope of winning. Are there two TC servers?

J/K – both FA and KN are great opponents. T2 is simply amazing right now. It’s Thursday and all three servers are bringing everything they have and the outcome is still up in the air. Can’t say that about too many other tiers (US or EU). Squabble all you want, but remember we’re pretty lucky to have this level of competition.
