Just got idea of ele and mesmer having axe – absurd!

Silly, Elementalists do have axes. They have a flame axe in their skills.

Yeah, and that is why nobody uses them.
Srsly, no trolling. Check YT and see loads of people don’t actually use conjured weapons on ele. Not a single one and conjured axe/bow/sword/hammer/shield can’t be taken as real weapon. I was thinking “it’s me that play without them” yet I see nobody does except for try as experiment. The real issue with those weapons is they prevent usage of atonement swap and as such makes no sense on a profession that is all about atonement swapping.

The idea that axes “arent stealthy weapons” doesn’t matter. We are THIEVES, not rogues or assassins. Thieves could use conceivably any weapon, why not axes?

Right, we could use thief with staff or scepter + focus. No wait, instead of focus we could give a thief a warhorn and torch! Do you get my point? It is not something thief would normally use. Totally miss the idea of some sneaky guy. Want axe? Roll warrior, ranger (crossest matchup) or necro.

Just got idea of ele and mesmer having axe – absurd!

It appears that your assuming that all the players in the party actually finish the dungeon, which on the 1st encounter many/most will not. It’d be almost impossible to learn proper tactics when the playing field is constantly changing.

Is not your party always different as well?

No, I don’t assume everybody finished the dungeon. I was thinking having an illusion of a new dungeon trough different experience. The whole point is not to remember the path and as such it will undermine feel of grinding trough exploring. As an example, compare how did you felt when you played first time some dungeon and hod did you fell after repeating exact same path for how many times. Even if other members done the dungeon before you, you probably still felt “This all is so new to me, what is tactics now? I better not screw up!”. As a consequence, this bring players to play more carefully and I agree a bit slower and because of that, rewards from dungeons like these must be higher. Also, exploring something new gives more excitement than doing same old thing all over again. If you leveled multiple toons – you probably liked first the most as everything looked so fresh and new.

problem with randomized dungeons is you will ALWAYS get some dipstick QQing they want the easy path. Usually with the made up arguement that they have a real life and need to rush. Aka bull

QQ people will always be there to QQ. I was thinking, maybe to implement one dungeon at the time and see player’s thoughts and experiences. I really don’t understand them: they usually complain with such idea that something is different, and when something is same they complain it is boring. My best guess for the real reason of QQ people would be fear for being unable to adopt to the new environment and as such that they would be left behind achievements of other players.

PS: I don’t have some great PC so don’t “CPU based” to me. I have Pentium Dual Core E5500.

Well. I lag nevertheless in PvP so it’s quite annoying (GTX 260, 8 Gig ram, and AMD Faildozer, but not so fail in most other games that I play in). It’s been known for awhile that the Intel CPUs works better in this game than AMD; that’s not in other games I used to play like BF3 or Crysis where I get around 60FPS constant all maxed out on 1440 by 900 resolution (I run most 3D games with better FPS than I have in GW2). And it’s more with the FPS dipping than anything… I’ll be fine if it consistantly stick around 40-50 FPS (except it dips to around 20FPS in certain camera angles, which is annoying. I would trade even constant 30FPS for no FPS dipping anyday).

My FPS is usually 20-25 in GW2. When I am in WvW I lower setting to best performance to get that FPS in mass battles. In Skyrim I have 60 on this machine regardless of addons except when I add ENB where least demanding ENB gives me 30FPS and most demanding 2-3FPS. I run it on x64 Win7. So I still have lower FPS than you.

I agree GW2 game engine is not yet optimized but still I don’t think it is such a big issue that will make me loose the fight. Above all, it is possible to even capture a video of SPvP and be top player. Here is me on my main Ink:

PS: I don’t consider myself as good PvPer, just want to say CPU is not an issue. I run this on Auto-detect settings.

Description or personal name edit can help in the friend list. So you need to make convention of your own. Here is example:

Player’s toon: Goofy
You add him in your list and rename as : Goofy TA P3

All others should have this suffix TA (dungeon) and P3 as party combination 3
You can add even more Ps if you go with same player in multiple party combinations:
Example:
Goofy TA P1 P3
Tony TA P1
Pif TA P3 AC P2

the downed state!?

in Suggestions

Inkubus.7529

Downed state is not the big issue at all. People need to learn to have roles. Roles are very different depending on part of the game is played at the moment.

PvE open world and PvE dungeons for now can be anything individual player wishes to be. I am not high lvl in FotM but some of my guildies complain it become hard later on so it might be required certain role specialization.

SPvP is usually high burst DPS but some good teams divide themselves into specific roles and gain high advantage.

WvW is not an exception. Yet I think it would require even more roles. Especially those with easy AoE based skills (like ele and necro with staff) to discourage revival of downed players. Furthermore, few days ago I was n WvW and there haven’t been caravan protectors, no supply chain ppl etc. I think it was huge mistake and probably could be achieved trough coordinated guild actions. That said, individual is not important in WvW but guild(s).

Downed state is fine and it is quite good innovation in MMO. I don’t mind when ele vapor out of me. I play ele too and know that once he is out of that vapor – he is dead ele! I just follow the trail. I was furious when thief blink away and stealth but now it is ok too. I was also furious when mesmer runaway and clone itself and that too is ok. It was annoying when guardian or warrior knock me back but that is ok too. I think somehow engeneers and necros are underpowered in comparison to others.

All in all, not big deal feature itself. The bigger deal is to change usual routine in tactics and ability usage and apply something new/different to ensure that downed player stay down. When another player comes to revive, reject idea “OMG he’s gonna rez him” and make this idea instead “Let use this into my/our advantage and nail down both players”. It can be more difficult to certain professions than to others but not that difficult or impossible. I would rather have 2 enemy players in downed state than one perma killed. Situation dictates everything at the end.

PS: read carefully

It as difficult for me to take L2P here in GW2. I really thought some classes are way OP and needed to be nerfed. Why? Well I was killed a lot and tried to be nuisance to enemy team as much as I could so others can pull the win. This is all because I leveled my elementalist and liked staff for too much. Then I started digging the net and some answers I found on forums, other on You Tube. So there is a way to make every profession do the same things. Here are examples from which you can learn. I am sure there are videos for other professions.
Elementalist as point holder:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xub9tBassHE&list

Elementalist as fighter 1:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kn-MBWzxeHw

Elementalist as fighter 2:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=80oLsz9pgBo&list

So I took this fighter 2 video and I am very thankful to the uploader’s tips.
My game play after learning from his videos (graveyard fight):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLlcUSwrkmI&feature=youtu.be

So you can learn about various professions online. Google the forums and dig the You Tube.

Game allows very flexible gameplay and many of us take it for granted (including me). Yet certain roles require more skill and more abilities in one profession than in other. You can’t have profession that has it all easy. You can have player that knows every aspect of the profession that he plays.

PS: I don’t have some great PC so don’t “CPU based” to me. I have Pentium Dual Core E5500.

This is joined reply to both Kalizaar.4729 and Kantharr.2308.
Yes I agree that idea of having flexible sectors, their rotation, mirror and dungeon tailoring is awesome but I know it requires a lot of programming. Instead, I described idea that can be made only by designer and scripter without any programming. In other words, programmers have slowest work and a lot of possible traps (in their work) so this is suppose to be used by level designers and scripters with technology that is already present in the game. Maybe later on they could (or should) made dungeon that game is tailoring for the players so every entry would really be unique experience.
Arguably, it could be possible dungeon crawling for MMO.

I was experimenting with visual features of new character last night and I choose Sylvari. I started to experiment with modification of every aspect, mostly skin color, pattern and face. Also switching light on and off constantly. Spend like 15 minutes there. At first, some face choices were messed up (loss of polygons, looking like one flat polygon) and return to normal as soon as I click them. After a while, almost all faces were messed up. Soon, my game client crashed. I sent report of this, restarted client and continue playing as normal. This happened first time to me after latest patch.

This is rather “old school” approach to the things in time when new game was just pop out before this info leek and hype fueling the game. This approach could work if they really deliver something huge when more than 70% of players would be amazed on every corner thus with every next update it would be “New update?! With what will they surprise us this time?”. I think they ruined it with FotM so, I guess they should go like:

“We are planing to do this, that, and this, and that… and there is some more to surprise you.”

So players would have some info but not all the info if they want it to keep mystery thing.

I like your idea Inkubus!

I’d also love to see an expansion of your idea into some sort of randomized map, endless dungeon implementation. I mean the Fractals are sort of a simplified version of this idea. In fact when I was first reading about the Fractals this is exactly what I thought they were doing.

A dungeon that gets more difficult the deeper you go? Awesome! But it turns out it’s not quite like that. So a future addition of a dungeon that is open to all levels that gets more and more difficult the deeper you go would be incredible.

Maybe at the entry point an NPC examines your party to determine where you should start. Low level characters would start at the beginning and can try and work their way down as far as possible whereas a level 80 party would be given the option to teleport to level 40 of the dungeon or something.

Or it could just tailor the dungeon experience based on party level from the start. Dungeon level 1 for a party of level 10s would be tailored to challenge that level range, but a party of level 80s would have suitable challenge in level 1 for them.

I’m sure all that would be more difficult than the Inkubus’ idea. So maybe a future future addition.. lol.

I also thought FotM would be something like this but when I played first time I was like “this is not randomized enough”.

To be honest, my original idea is to have bunch of sectors where game would pick any of them and “design” dungeon randomly. Then I remembered how it can be difficult to implement such things and then I degrade my idea by having constant 9 × 9 sectors with randomly opened passages (that should be in greater number and more detailed than my picture suggests). This is very doable just more time is needed to create such a dungeon(s) and apply rules.

And yes, it should be more difficult as you go. Not only by wiping harder mobs and bosses but there is factor of not knowing which passage is open at the moment. This sounds like no big deal but it is. Players will constantly facing unknown. After some time ANet could apply different AI on upper row sectors and which would more increase difficulty.

As for entry points, I am not sure. There are all kind of players out there. I imagined this as players to vote size of the dungeon before getting in, but it would be good to have another choice on the same voting panel “match dungeon difficulty for our party”. It could work similar to the FotM level except it wouldn’t be visible. Game will keep track of players lvls of difficulty of the dungeon and will choose difficulty also by random value between highest dungeon ranking player and lowest dungeon ranking player to avoid discrimination. So we would have more challenging dungeon for those who want it and “standard” versions for those who want that.

Has this game gone downhill?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Inkubus.7529

I’m not sure what the fuss is about. A lot of people complaining but only in general terms, nothing specific.

When GW2 came out there was a lot of hype with it. Lots of people bought the game and played. And they played a lot. People were spending 20 – 30 or more hours a week playing. But time, and with people being people, they started playing less. They still played but not not as much. Kinda like me and my little red wagon when I was 5.

Also, after you have 2 or 3 level 80 toons do you really want to grind out another. Not me. It’s time to move on to either the after game or a new game. The after game here is WvW maybe with a little PvP thrown in. Those that leave the game can say – “I spent 60 bucks and had hundreds of hours of fun”. That’s about the cost of going out to the movies (two or three times if you can’t find a date)

So once again. What’s the big fuss. If you enjoy the game play it. If not move on. You still got your moneys worth.

The big fuss is that we are bunch of people that enjoy the game and we are aware that some other people are not dedicated like us and will leave the game. As an effect we will have difficulties to find party and generally make game not so enjoyable when the world become empty.

Having a sword would be cool, but it doesnt help D/ to be completely stuck when having to leave melee on no-melee bosses events. Warriors and thiefs can weapon swap to ranged, Elem cant.

Having one ranged auto attack in dagger primary wouldnt alter the whole freaking balance.
Weapon switch out of combat wouldnt neither, actually if they ever implement such a thing I’d rather see a equipement manager allowing to swich out of combat to another gear set just like you do for town clothes, and that for all professions (probably from $$ gem store).

Try scepter. Solve many of your problems. It is very well balanced for ele between dagger and staff. Also, I advise you to actually try other professions and you will see that warrior is not nearly that good with ranged weapons as he is with melee weapons. Especially not good in comparison to ele on staff.

Besides, you are forgetting one important thing: ele has huge damage while wearing dagger but if you make it to use the same damage on bigger range it would be unfair to other professions and totally imba. Look other casters like mesmer and necromancers. Both have more weapons and weapon swap on their disposal. But wouldn’t be nice that mesmer can spawn more illusions? Or to spawn them in shorter period of time? Or necromancer to syphone health with every weapon? Or to have fear on every weapon? Check those professions to realize why I typed this.

Everything they gave us with abilities per weapon has some pros and cons and daggers are for the close range. I would like my fire spells make conditions while using staff same as daggers do, but no, only one spell can do that and very shortly. These are the consequences of my choice to play ele with staff and with it I learn better ways to use weapon of choice for my preferred profession. So should you and everybody else. Just constant plea for change of one thing might be no big deal for you but others can see that as unfair advantage. Hell, I would use daggers if they got range 900 but no, don’t like that playstyle (ele to be close to enemy) so I stick with staff and scepter(sometimes).

This is good one! I like it. For instance I mostly use staff but sometimes I use scepter + focus. So I open Hero panel and swap now and then. Not big deal ha? It is a big deal! sometimes in dungeons I would like to use scepter and sometimes staff but don’t want to go trough hero panel.

As appendix to Fix 1 and my idea for extra weapon: even Gandalf used sword! Give us sword with range 900 and new abilities!

I really wish they had mounts its one reason I keep going back to WOW its cool and all to have the waypoints but sometimes I just want to ride around but no I have to port to an area then walk forever it seems like to the next waypoint then port then walk some more just gets old I would probably stick with GW2 if they had mounts but guess ill keep paying blizzard. maybe next time around

Please, do not compare it with WOW as WOW is quite different game. Mounts there do have a lot reasons to be where I will pull two most important in my opinion.

1) GW2 has WP and WOW has those paid travel services. But, every GW2 zone has immense amount of WPs and WOW doesn’t which render mounts must have in WOW.

2) WOW does have PvE servers but obvious game mechanics is revolving at the open world PvP and sometimes you want fast sneak past the enemy and avoid confrontation. Also, in many WOW BGs, mounts play important role. Here it would have relevance only in WvW.

What you people need is to alter your skills (utilities) and weapons when out of combat to gain swiftness and other boons alike.

Also, GW1 didn’t had mounts so I doubt it. It could be technical issue (in GW1 they didn’t had other races) but I really doubt they will implement mounts.

I disagree on Fix 1. I play ele as my main and enjoy playing it a lot. Yet it is a very fine line for ele to become OP profession. This also breaks consistency having short weapons for a short range. It would be better adding new weapon for ele to use rather than messing with current one and breaking balance tremendously. Unlike many people think, having staff in SPvP is not bad at all. This also bring the risk of non ele players to fuel rage for adding mana usage, increased cooldowns and all sort of things…

Fix 2 – sounds good and logical, I am afraid other professions would be mad on this

Problem 3 – tried it once every summoned weapon and never used again. I think summoned weapons are for some other game.

Problem 4 – agree and I really like tornado but it makes ele extremely big squishy target so it usually means “yeah you make havoc but you die”. I think 95% of my ele play is using this glyph of elementals as elite skill and I am not particularly happy with that too.

What the Ele Community Agrees On

Main – ele. Weapon of choice – staff. I unlocked all of the weapon abilities but still prefer Staff over all others. I agree arcane is pretty good and with staff it can make real havoc to large amount of enemies. I have my video here but DO KNOW I DON’T HAVE BEST ARMOR YET.

(sorry for poor quality)

I made mistake and put 20 points into air. For this much better is to have those 20 into Earth. A side from that, 30 in fire and 20 in Arcane are great but until I acquire entire rampager set (especially the bling) I will keep those 20 in air.

Also, do know that some people are raging how ele is too easy and should have mana resource (I disagree).

Why no mana?

As for Elementalists, adding mana restrictions makes them less unique. Allowing Necros and Warriors to use skills that consume life force/adrenaline would be neat though, since it would be a different way to spend those class specific resources and them give more options… not less options (which would happen with adding another resource to most classes).

Elementalist are unique because they can swap elements, ele is not so good ele if it is only in one element atonement.
Warriors already have this adrenaline that they fill as they fight, once full, they can unleash lot of damage
Necromancers have this life force pool that they fill, and if there is any, they can assume Death shroud form with new 4 skills but rapidly depleting this Life force pool (very unique indeed)

But they feel like they are good because of their potential dmg output. When they are able to spam all skills currently on cooldown they get the idea that they are doing whats right. If you add something like Energy, they will see how “oh, I ran out of energy. Maybe I’m supposed to think of my spell combinations before throwing spaghetti at the wall and seeing what sticks”. It would, in theory, actually promote players to play smarter because now they have to think of what their doing instead of seeing the cooldown timer comeing off and repeating their same mistake.

I would love to play a necromancer but I feel like it would be just a elementalists with a different theme and more summons. If I saw something like lifeforce as a resource and skills regain some of it back on successful hits (Think Vladamir in League Of Legends, or some MMOS that have warriors consume health on a powerful skill) there is a tradeback but the reward can be exhilarating.

Elementalist can’t spam spells the way you described. Average elementalist run-out of health pretty quickly and that is very important resource. Elementalists runout of available spells pretty quickly so adding energy/mana would be game over for ele.
Fire spells on staff example: Fireball 1 sec, Lava font 6 sec, Flame burst 10 sec, Burning retreat 20 sec, Meteor shower 30 sec! Now if that is not enough there is no point talking on this subject anymore. What spamming of abilities you are talking about?

Necromancers do have Life force pool. I level up my necro at the moment. It is not like elementalist at all except it is caster class and wears light armor. It is much easier to PvE as necro as you can have up to 5 personal tenks all the time (5 undead minions perfect for mobs distraction) + second life bar (mentioned death shroud from Life force) + life drain if use knifes as weapon. Also, necro’s can swap weapons in combat as other professions. I like staff with necro more than staff on ele. As for comparison to the Vladimir from LOL – necro in GW2 can do his thing and much more. Do roll this profession and try all the weapons yet I still think he is conditioner oriented (staff + scepter).

It gives ANet MORE tools to balanced the game.

The more mechanics you put in it, more complicated it becomes for developers and exponentially increases chance to mess up things.

It is obvious they wanted very balanced game as in SPvP we have very limited gear to put on our toons. So it is easier to balance with less in the mechanics.

More doesn’t mean “better” and it is usually quality vs. quantity issue. Same goes with skills we were discussing already. I think this way we have more quality designed skills as it is now.

According to my resources, Heart seeker is nerfed after release – I wonder is this causing all this mana need?

Seriously?
You quote a single line of text from my post, yet managed to skip the 3 lines below it that answer all your questions:

Not all skills would need to cost Initiative.
Not all Thief skills would need a cooldown, and most would get tiny cooldowns like 2s or 3s.
But it’s a Tool worth using in order to balance the game and make skills feel more unique.

If ANet isn’t forced to use Initiative on every cooldown-based skill, nor cooldowns on every Initiative-based skill, how is that adding complexity?
They would have the OPTION to use 1 additional tool to help balance the skill for the right situation.

Sometimes a skill is not OP due to its cooldown, but the combos it can be used in.
In that case, introducing Initiative fixes it.
The other skills that are fine wouldn’t need to be touched.

Sometimes a skill isn’t OP, but being able to spam it can be (some Thief skills).
In that case, a small 2s or 3s cooldown fixes it.
The other skills that are fine wouldn’t need to be touched.

I read them and still think it is an extra item in game mechanics and every extra complicates things.
What you suggested is breaking consistency quite heavily. With your idea, players would be confused why this behaves like this and why this other doesn’t? It would arose new flood of ideas like “Why not all skills are treated the same? Why these have no CD while others do? Why these have no initiative/mana/stamina usage and others do?”. Again: More doesn’t mean better.

Right now players know what to expect with one exception with every profession (warriors have adrenaline, guardians have passive heal, mesmers have passive illusion/clones appearance, necromancers have death shroud with extra health bar….) and it is a part of a profession so players can easily comprehend. Idea you are suggesting will make players wonder too much, and get confused too much and in crucial moment will be unaware why something didn’t happen while other things did thus breaking their idea for the situation and causing frustration. Not fun.

If the originally problem is with the balance I can understand that and it is very possible that it will be handled more and more as time passes by which is not necessarily by adding something extra that can complicate things even more. I am a programmer and know this very well and burned my self very badly couple of times form making things complicated by adding more stuff.

Current combat system is simpler, so if balancing is needed, better to change some skill(s) entirely of some profession, which is easier than adding something that will affect skills of all professions on all weapons. Notice I haven’t wrote “all skills”. Game is young, very young. I am quite sure producers kept pressure on developers to publish game earlier (yeah I am in that business) and we had launch with some serious issues. Still some issues exists and they are priority obviously. We are awaiting new patch this December – maybe some more balancing we will see which is more likely than to change entire concept of ability usage by adding more stuff.

The point I’m making is that, excluding thief, all professions I see just toss all their cooldowns at the enemy to acheive victory, or kite long enough to do the same thing. Spells/skills have different cooldowns but I hardly see combinations other than just press the button when it is availible.
. . .
And your description of elementalists is exactly my point, they only tend to use fire and occasionally I see earth. They dont have weapon swap because every weapon they choose has 4 different skill kits, yet the vast majority of people I see in pve areas like orr, or dungeons and many people in wvw, only use fire.

I still would like you to role elementalist and try that logic in Orr. Also, go to SPvP and fight thief with fire – good luck with that! Ele on fire with staff can cast fireball as fastest skill and it takes 1 sec CD, on scepter it has Flamestrike with 1,25 sec CD – in that time – how many hits thief can make to ele? Thiefs dagger abilities have no CD, have high damage output and thief has better armor. Also, thief can in 3 hits kill ele with just typing ability 2. Yes, I am good but usually thief can jump on you and as ele you have one choice – die. Now if we get mana on top of it, we are goner with this mechanic.

As for using fire, it is good sometimes but not always. It seems they use plain direct what it is understandable. There is Arcane build with rampager gear that can make more damage, give nice CC skills but requires a lot of player skill while shuffle trough elements. If mana returns, this will become impossible to use but for dungeons it is good to stay as it is – not OP but still good burst. Doesn’t work in SPvP so other professions are safe.

I haven’t played for good mesmer, but did played necro and love to play it on staff. Introducing mana can be total disaster for this play.

Dungeon mechanic example (randomized dungeon)

Yes you understood correct. Above all, those who choose 3 × 3 map will not always get random bottom row of sectors. Can be any 3 × 3 sectors from 9 × 9 big grid except boss tiers could lowered to match described 3 × 3 patter. Also, it could be possible to just spawn random bosses on the boss designated locations with according tier so it would randomize dungeon even further – every time players get in they might recognize “boss area” but buss in it will always be different. Depending on environment in which boss is spawned, this can be difficulty factor if that area contains traps or tricky terrain (good example are boss areas from AC in story mode).

Why no mana?

Mana and similar resources are far before MMO era, but in MMOs are usually used in more sinister way, especially if you take business politics of the company who made the game.

We all heard about WOW, I don’t like it (make mess with your personality) and I tend to avoid those players. But I myself have played it. What Blizzard did is created monthly subscription for their game so it is in their best interest to make gameplay slow in every possible way. Mana, stamina or energy bars contribute to this mechanism. WOW player, especially if it is caster, can’t go just casting and nuking enemies – must take break or be weak as GW2 caster can. So if you play slower, chances are high that you will pay subscription again next month.

Some have heard about Allods online – also knows as best WOW clone but it is free to play. This game also uses mana and gives game mechanic with even slower pace thus making you frustrated to tears to buy something from their micro transaction shop for real money. Allods player need even more time to level up his character to max level than WOW player.

Guild Wars 2 – we already payed our dues to Arena Net and because of that, they do not suffocate us by slowing with such things as mana, stamina etc. There is no point for them to slow us down with our ingame progress and this makes Guild Wars 2 fastest leveling game. What endurance, cool-downs and thief’s energy comes for is to make it a bit challenging. Also very important as we don’t have dogma trinity (tenk/dps/healer) we have freedom of choice instead so if player is glass canon caster like me, must use this resource and CDs wisely not to be one shot by boss.

I saw some videos rescently from other MMO games, including GW1 (haven’t played it) and I think to myself “I really don’t want to go back mana based (MMO) games”.

We don’t need mana, we need more lvl80 content with horizontal progression.

Put an end to Pve servers

Ok I think I get the idea… it is not removing PvE, and such as others seem to think.
However I still disagree to the idea. The problem is not the game design, Anet wanted people on all servers to do some of both, keep both active.
Then people went I PvP, everyone who does PvP should come to this and this server. Then PvE’ers go to this server. The community, possibly unintentionally, created this issue to come extend.
Sorry, but don’t change the game… just… change server, if the one you are on is not suitable. Just like you would not stay in a guild where you did not fit in.

Yes, doing a Little of both as the monthly achievement suggests. But there is more to it or more could be in it. There are players like me that like PvE, SPvP but not interested in WvW but still think WvW is great idea and HAS to be improved so players like me could do it.

Let me explain: Unlike SPvP, WvW gives possibility for players to level till 80 in WvW only! Above all, they can use crafting, trade post and mystic forge. All this is good and should remain in WvW. What it needs to be altered is WvW map itself! Must be larger, must have more content, more possibility to craft, in other words to make some player play their character there yet make fun for others who almost never step a foot in WvW.

At first step, I think it is OK, but must be a bit more so it feels like almost separate map PvP map.

What need to be removed are bots who take their place in queue and many players who want – can’t get in. This is serious problem. It would be nice to introduce a server NPC hero that moves on the map and players can attack other server forts with him or even make a clash between those 2 NPCs on the field. It would be nice to introduce forth NPC only faction that can also conquer (krait, dredge, svanir, flame leagion, bandits, inquest…) that would give good crafting materials loot. Once players eradict that NPC faction, timer starts and when it is done, somewhere on the map game spawn new NPC faction of other race attacking randomly. Just piling it up from top of my head…

Yes but this is very new concept with events so most people mist them. Also, many many people coming form other MMOs and often they are biased. They do it usually as in other MMOs and miss a lot of lore. Characters are not so memorable. Except Destiny’s edge members, I can name only Leftpaw from Order of Whispers campaign and noone else.

https://dviw3bl0enbyw.cloudfront.net/uploads/forum_attachment/file/9470/tybalt_leftpaw.jpg

If they get extra goal to pursue, better memorable characters and challenge – they would be more interested to do it. You can’t deny that most of zones are empty now. I am leveling my third character and things are very different in comparison when I was leveling my first. If they get these extra goals, it would make players wander a lot and some will stick to their capital cities. In anyway, it would give optional dedicated content for people to do it. Many people said GW2 has no good story, no endgame etc… This would be one contribution to fix those issues because GW2 has more, much more potentials than we actually do have and see today.

Point is, game doesn’t have classic quests and I love that concept A LOT! But downside is that there you can’t introduce more story and lore to the players. GW1 was full of it. So, without expansions, game should have a lot more stories to pick up and do things, an appendix to player’s “This is my story”. As player do these extra player stories, more of the lore would be told to the player. This sounds blunt and plain but as you play it, these small things suck you in that virtual world. Also, on completition of multiple of these stories or group some very nice rewards. This leads to making player spend more time in game across multiple zones not just mass in Lion’s Arch and “LF[x]M FotM lvl[y]” all the time and grind.

Look some videos how last year people still play GW1. They do it in old fashion quest way. I don’t want come back of quests, but can make something similar that will still be fun to play in a long time.

Let us take player who didn’t play personal story at all. To him, this particular dragon is totally irrelevant and has no impact on their gameplay.
I understand your concern. But you need to take one step back. Let us have setting “dragons are returning” in such manner that we don’t know any magnitude of threat. So if one player choose different dragon we must take in consideration this is an MMO so it doesn’t matter to other players. NPCs could speculate which one is greater threat but for that player it will be big thing and unique personal story. As story progress, that player realize his chosen dragon is the biggest threat.

I think Kite refer to idea making other dragons have a lot of impact on the world as well and make them more evil than they are. If you inspect original personal story, Zhaitan attack only Lion’s Arch, other cities factions are unaffected. If payer chooses different dragon story will present it equally evil and threatening. Zhaitan is not Dragon leader and they are independent in some way so I think Kite’s idea is quite good. I would go even further. I would force player to pick home city and by doing so, every city has one dragon that is big to them and if they loose he will consume everything. So if player chose Lion’s Arch for home, Zhaitan is still focus, if Hoelbrak then Jormag would be big threat equally dangerous. so player go for that dragon

Dungeon mechanic example (randomized dungeon)

Token accumulation is something very interesting in this case. Here how it works in attached example map:

3 × 3 sector dungeon (probably players will choose this size in most cases)

  • 3 Tier 1 boss x 5 tokens = 15 tokens
  • 2 Tier 2 boss x 10 tokens = 20 tokens
  • 1 Tier 3 boss x 15 tokens = 15 tokens
  • Dungeon completion = 10 tokens
  • 2 low level players x 1 token x dungeon size (3) = 6 tokens
    TOTAL TOKENS GAINED 15 + 20 + 15 + 10 = 60 (+ 6 in mail if player is 70 and above)

9 × 9 sector dungeon (TAKES LONG TIME TO FINISH!)

  • 3 Tier 1 boss x 5 tokens = 15 tokens (bottom sector row)
  • 2 Tier 2 boss x 10 tokens = 20 tokens (first next sector row after bottom row)
  • 1 Tier 3 boss x 15 tokens x 7 = 105 tokens (7 sector rows till dungeon exit)
  • Dungeon completion = 10 tokens
  • 2 low level players x 1 token x dungeon size (9) = 6 tokens
    TOTAL TOKENS GAINED 15 + 20 + 105 + 10 = 150 (+ 18 in mail if player is 70 and above)

Maybe formula for tokens on lowbies need to be altered but this is just an example. Also, could be added sector factor to Tier 3 bosses to increase token gain per next Tier 3 boss.

Players: Love it? Hate it?
Arena Net: Interested in this?
