Kodan wouldn’t really have beards or head hair, if you ask me.
And humans, charr, norn, sylvari, and asura have the kodan cannot ever have: skin color.
Kodan are polar bears. At best, without breaking that, you’ll have various shades of white.
And with how kodan are currently, hair, beard, and the like seems unlikely. And the tattoos thus far seen on kodan are unique to the Voices, so while possible, overall seems unlikely given what we’re shown. So all you really have beyond body physic and height, would be facial features and shades of white fur – with a possible tattoo.
Don’t get me wrong either – I wouldn’t mind kodan being playable. I’d probably enjoy it, in fact (well, so long as I get a constant speed boost skill for such a character – norn feel slow as hell enough, can’t imagine an even bigger race). I just don’t see it likely given customization possibilities.
All the races have a lot more than what kodan have seen possible. Doesn’t mean Anet can’t make stuff up, but the biggest barrier is the polar bear aspect.
Sure thing but look at the charr idea – they are basically humaniod cats and just comprehend idea beard and hair to hairy cat – it is weird to say the least.
As for the skin – I am not too comfort with Asura skin colors. Kodan might have stripe here and there but why keep it so traditional? Most of players are distinguishable by their armor and not by physical appearance. In other words, a warrior with a helmet will not be so relevant and visible. With that in mind, why make customization always so visible? It could be voice acting and general behavour – more teddy or more ferocious.
Kodan – they seem unlikely given the lack of customization abilities in appearance. Charr have leopard patterns, tiger patterns, Siamese cat patterns, plain patterns, etc. Kodan? They have white, white, and more white. Polar bear people is very limited.
I disagree on this.
Look at Asura. Their only true customizations are ears, hair and tattoo.
Look at humans. The only true customization is hair, beard for males and tattoo.
If we take Kodan, we can have also beards, warpaint, while hair and jaw similar to Charr.

My wish
1. Kodan
——————
They feel like good ground for well designed society quite different from current available races. Upon entering their societies, I really had feel of being in place of some very different culture. They have strong sense for unity trough balance but it doesn’t prevent them from using violence to achieve it which fits in the main game plot with dragons. Architecture of sanctuaries is very unique (in comparison to others) and good to have such diversity with another race.
They can have 3 different paths as other races also: sanctuary born, Song of Final Exile born and castaway. Some of interests player could choose discover the origin of race how scattered because of Jormag, reconnection of the scattered tribes/path of balance, fight distant sanctuary from icebrood, purify Kodan Voice initiate and help to comunicate with Koda. Just taking from the top of my head, but there is a lot of possibilities for Kodan to make actual race and their armors and animations can be same or similar to Norn.
Cons: I assume ANet will not take Kodan as players might think they are copying WoW Panda. Truth is, many eastern MMOs have panda and panda like races. Havi in mind, humans are in basically every MMO and in every MMO they are most popular race – who is coping who?
Pros: Due to their unique nature, Kodan fits good in role of melee and ranged professions as well as in magical and non magical concept. They might be heart appealing by looks as most of people had a bear toy. This also might be extra customization option to be more cold like as they are now or more cute (including voice and moves).
2. Skritt
—————-
As cute and funny race. Have very good base for racial signet like utilities (more power when in presence of other skritt). 3 Skritt as 1 player toon seems like Allods influence of Gibberling. Goofy too. Overall, Skritt would have to be incredibly funny and ridiculous to play with loads of silly and funny situations. They do have depicted good community and they are by far better choice than Dredge.
3. Jotun
—————-
They have been once a proud race and civilization. Player might actually be from some new zone where Jotun are still in great communities and civilized. The personal story might be quite emotional as player’s character meet savage Jotun tribes scattered and have a great impact on him. This seems highly unlikely will ever be ANet choice from many reasons. One is technical as they are too tall and can’t enter most places where all other races can.
Of all that, I see many posts where people would like Tengu. Personally, I don’t “feel” Tengu. It might be nice for those are players from GW1 but in GW2 they appear occasionally and don’t have such impact as community for someone who played GW2 only. This also might be gap filler to put them as playable race so that GW2 players only could have depiction of Tengu race as a community and large race. This also brings fear. In GW2 we don’t see any of their social organization, architecture not even beliefs and as such it would be good to be something very unique. It is clearly stated, they are neutral in all conflicts so this might be a problem regarding the core story of GW2 (or any for that matter).
30 – 35 FPS in SPvP and PvE (when not in massive events like Joprmarg)
7 – 10 FPS in WvW zergs so I don’t play WvW at all. Feel like playing half of the game only.
We shall see how it goes after the nerf.
Many many times I ended up in party when people said:
“I don’t care what (dungeon) path we are taking as long as we have ele”
or
“ele – cool! Don’t mind any frac now”
And we shall see how that is gonna be after the nerf.
Now, ANet will nerf AoE to make ele players use more of single target abilities. In order to know what that means for ele who play on staff, you need to play ele. On staff, everything is AoE. So we are suppose to throw our basic attacks only and be good in party? IF they want us to use single target abilities, let they introduce such weapon with only single target abilities that is fun to play and leave AoE as it is. A side from that, ele don’t need new weapon. Ele is good with staff as it is for both damage and heal (in separate builds of course).
Same story goes for necro. But necro can have axes and warhorns with quite different abilities for different purposes. Yet still, necro has 4 abilities on staff that are AoE. Can make all utility as AoE having in total 8 AoE abilities at once on one weapon! If they nerf it it is moronic. Instead, make single target abilities more heart appealing and players will use it.
I don’t know for engineers, as I deleted mine (simply it is not for me) but in my opinion, they have way too few weapons.
I played warrior and have it on 80 – too few AoE!
Ranger – got it on 80 and it is fine as it is IMO. And there is the biggest thing! The difference between Ranger and Elementalist even though they are primarily ranged professions, Ranger is more single target oriented (yes he has AoE but not as ele), while ele is AoE oriented (and have few single target abilities). In party, synergy between staff ele and bow ranger is fantastic! To me, that is the whole point! Have two different professions with different playstyle. Or give to all professions ability to have same playstyle – i.e. weapon for ranger to make lots of AoE, and weapon for ele to make lots of abilities with single target damage.
Allowing eles to use an existing weapon (and rifles are currently really underrepresented in terms of who can use them anyway) is way less work than adding an entirely new type of weapon, which would need lots of models and new skills for at least one other class besides eles. Not to mention any new weapon for eles would require 4 times as many new skills, though given how many redundant spells they already have, I guess that’s not a huge problem for anet.
It is irrelevant if weapon is whole new model or some of existing. The core problem is in what weapon will do. In ele’s case is 16 new abilities that need to be good but not OP. It must not be better or worse in anyway towards other classes.
I would rather give rifle to ranger, and improve what engineer can do with it. Having profession like elementalist that create something from nothing, rifle seems weird to say the least.
EDIT: this is not the best video that display sorcerer, but for the sake of illustration, having orb or disk like in this video is more attachable to ele than rifle.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PlaxLVg-31s
But we shouldn’t discus about this. There won’t be any new weapons. There was gazillion posts about new weapons and races – ANet decide to nerf AoE “as players requested”. I am not that often on these forums but I would appreciate if somone send me links from this forum where players demanded AoE to be nerfed.
(edited by Inkubus.7529)
I’d rather see eles get rifles as a mostly single target, long range weapon with more of a damage than utility focus instead of sword/axe/GS, since D/D already covers melee pretty well.
Of course if attunements actually operated like different weapons instead of just being a rotation or something you stay in for only as long as it takes to cast the one or two good skills, then eles would have less need for a weapon with a different focus.
Edit: Oh and for the love of god give eles a spear option underwater or make trident suck less. I dread going underwater on an ele more than any other class (and it’s not really fun on other classes, either).
Right now I don’t see existing weapon suitable for ele present in the game. I would like something having long range like staff with good single target spells and leave staff as it is. I already suggested on another forum orb of power, same as monarchs in Europe had. Or they could use completely invented abstract item like Tera gave disk to sorcerers. Also, this orb I mentioned could fly around ele while using it with fx and keep it in hand when not using. Of course, it would be two handed weapon and ele would not touch orb directly but use it like telekinetic powers to wield it in combat.
As for trident in water, I think that little good thing I do with it will be nerfed too. Believe it or not, I have good success in water sttunement. I swap to fire for #2, Air for #5 and #2, earth for #4 and again go back to water for rotation #5, (#4 if needed) #3, #3, #2,#2 all the time shoot #1 as it has low CD. I admit #5 and #2 need practice for maximum damage. #2 has some CD not too short not too long and if properly timed explosion I make 2,5K. Prolly can more but I don’t practice underwater too well – boring as hell.
gauntlets for elementalist, it would be the kunfu-mage class, i would play that
Mesmers are totally glamour type of mage so new weapon would be nice to be something glamorous like hand fan.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hand_fan
Even main illustrations from ANet depict female mesmer with hand fan.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mesmer
Downside: many people could take this as feminine but male emperors of Far East used this.
Elementalist would be nice to have orb of power something like monarch’s had to further more ilustrate power of elementalist as it suit to that type of mage.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sovereign%27s_Orb
Downside: many players would like their weapon clearly visible and orb is quite small so it could require extra visual effects like focus: Anomaly
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/The_Anomaly
Reality: ANet will not introduce new weapons as it require a lot of balancing and they struggle with existing ones. More weapons is more headache for them.
http://dulfy.net/2013/01/17/gw2-dev-livestream-jan-17-transcript/
Sorry guys, I am not hatting or being negative or something, just look the transcript closely, especially Philosophy for weapons/traits & class balance
Elementalists definitely do not need more weapons. They’re so overpowered in d/d bunker spec as it is.
Engineers, on the other hand, needs a lot of love.
Spoken by non-ele player.
D/D ele is not a bunker it is a very good for SPvP and WvW and lesser zerg mobs – it is good survivability build.
Bunker ele comes with Scepter + dagger and has no damage output.
Example:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xub9tBassHE
Upcoming AoE nerfing will for sure require new weapon as staff is defacto AoE weapon (for necro too). Maybe something without AoE but with 1 target damaging spells with CC skills.
However, ANet will not give any new weapons probably until expansion. Koreans suspect it could be this year. With little information ANet is giving to the public, overall impression this expansion will not happen in this year.
Personal thoughts – even with new expansion, I doubt new weapons will be there any soon. Not for ele, not for anyone. Having new weapon, require a lot of balancing in the game and they twaking (read: nerfing) current weapons, meaning ANet is having a lot of headache with current weapons and don’t want more headache with new weapons (and professions).
Do it however you can to lvl35 (preferable 40) and then go to Ascalon Catacombs Explorable mode. Gives awesome XP upon competition, can farm good gear and awesome weapons there. I leveled my necro there at least 20 levels.
Hey Anwar.2018 I think I understand what you are talking about. I had similar problem with my main even when I had 3 days headstart. I like to craft my own gear and crafting system is great in this game but you can fall into trap to have greater need for crafting materials to reach next level of crafting.
The big problem is, drop rate for materials is extremely low and you need more than you can gather (on every level). So for my main I was so slow to progress as I farmed mats and didn’t want to take “some gear” while realizing my crafted gear is better. You are left at mercy of TPers to give you some (hardly that will happen) or to go trough pain and level your first toon to 80. When you start second, you will realize all those mats from first toon remain in your materials bank and becomes easier. But if this is biggest obstacle on your first toon, then there is no help except charity I mentioned.
As for money, well let’s say a very small percentage of people don’t have that problem. It is really hard to earn 1 gold. Most people invest time into TP and do great job there (which I am not against but farmers should earn a lot too) or go trough Fractal of the Mists dungeon that give nice drops on higher levels of dungeon.
Regarding the combat it self, in my opinion, hardest way would be to level ele on staff only , glass cannon build to 80. As reward, you will learn so well evading skills that all your other toons will benefit from. Dodging is essential for any profession(class) in GW2 and some tips you can find on YouTube.
Name 1 aoe spec that is overall more powerful than a single target spec. I’m talking in terms of overall damage. There isn’t one, staff ele is demonstrably inferior to D/D.
I’ve got a staff ele, the aoe is primarily an area denial tool than a damage tool, because its too easy to avoid the damage, that is why it isn’t that strong.
If you talk about using staff ele in SPvP then this is correct but not always. It is far easier to use D/D in any PvP.
In WvW, staff ele is extremely useful when conquering forts, especially when stay behind friendly units and do all those AoE – it is so useful to cripple enemies in front friendly melee units, apply frozen ground, put static field so rangers can shoot trough and apply so much vulnerability. When in front of closed gate, necro is more useful here with his AoE but still, blasting staff makes good support chasing away enemies from the walls.
Also, in WvW, ele can be unbelievable good as healer with staff. More important, most D/D builds (or all maybe?) ave 30 points in water and at least 20 in arcana, which makes easy for D/D ele to transform himself to staff healer. Best to have alternative cleric gear to swap when out of combat.
If you talk about PvE you are totally wrong. Mobs can’t escape to ele with staff unless you stay in one attunement which is wrong.
AoE more powerful than single target – Meteor Shower is more powerful per hit and in total – problem too long cooldown, Dragon’s Tooth is more powerful – need to keep target in place for more than second while falling, Erruption makes total direct + condition damage than singe target damage – problem must keep target in place until explode. For these, must use berserker or rampager gear.
Now regarding this nerfing AoE, it is utterly stupid and really don’t realize where this idea comes from? To what end? Necro has 4 abilities on staff and utility skills too. Now, think about it – if you make profession such as necro having possibility to have basic attack and elite as non AoE and now to nerf that, seems like not normal. Ele has very interesting basic attack with staff while in Air.
In any case, if they nerf it, I will leave GW2 for sure. Of all these toons my favorite is ele and with staff! I play D/D sometimes but in dung I staff. After ele, my next favorite is necro with staff + scepter/focus. I recently started mesmer but it is far from those two favorites.
(edited by Inkubus.7529)
Inkubus, you need to do your homework better.
Fury? Yeah, why do you think I mentioned “Red Moa / Hunter’s call”? Also read up on how to calculate crit, and the different types of nourishments, ok?
Thanks.
I did. Point is, I play very little with my ranger and most of the time with my ele. I want to be independent as much possible from other players and it is likely I might be in dungeon without ranger in party. Elementalist has fury when swap attunement and I do that very often. So I would be gaining fury on my own.
What makes you think I don’t calculate crit chance properly? Lokheit.7943 pointed out directly what was my mistake and I accept it and changed accordingly. I removed 43,6% chance from my original calculus and replaced with 4%. 63,8 % crit chance on berserker gear only is correct with 200 traited precision. It is possible to have more than 63,8% if 300 precision is traited and rampager gear used but I want berserker gear.
@Aveneo.2068 This is wonderful! Makes big difference. And makes this thing easier. Thanks!
Farmers should be better off than “TP’ers” because they are actually producing the value found in the game. Your silly statement that “TP’ers” should somehow realistically be better off is like saying retailers make more money than manufacturers. “TP’ers” are nothing more than speculation buyers. They don’t contribute rather than just drag down their fellow players in game quality of life by causing artificial inflation with their speculation buying.
In other words, farmers do all the hard work and should be properly awarded, while TP’ers exploit this hard work at the moment. I think too farmers should earn/gain more.
Master Maintenance Oil is Nourishment which replaces Bowl of Butternut Squash Soup but replaces it in better way.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Master_Maintenance_Oil
I am thinking like with this build my ele got like a bit more than 11K health but let us round it:
4% of 11000 Health = 440 precision / 21 = 20,95% crit chance (more than soup giving 100 precision)
6% of 0 Toughness (ele in mind) = 0 Precision
So it would be (on ele) 68 + 20,95 = 88,95% crit chance.
And one thing I forgot – FURY!!!
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Fury
Fury gives 20% crit chance!
elementalist has:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Arcane_Fury
88,95 + 20 = 108,95% crit chance!
(arcane fury last for 2 seconds but can linger for 5 seconds if traited 15+ in arcana)
According to this calculations – it is possible.
Ele is the all-rounder profession in the game. Can easily fit in every role but it can’t be every role at once. If you invest like 30 points in water and do everything else like daphoenix.4283 described you can do a lot of damage same way as he does. If you happen to carry gear with healing stat including staff you can be fantastic healer and can change role when out of combat.
Some other builds can’t be like that. Some can perform ridiculously high amount of damage that is hard to keep ele alive due to no defensive stats but it is best way to learn evasive skills that will benefit with every other profession you role.
Other can make him indestructible but with almost no damage at all yet might be good for tenking.
In any way, playing elementalist require some research and fitting toon into your personal prefferance and playstyle. Usually end up somewhere in the middle between those. But it is fun and interesting how easy you can fit yourself and be good into so many roles.
Basic Precision:
916 / 21 = 43,6% crit chanceYou got it wrong, the first 916 basic Precision DOESN’T COUNT at all. They’re there… but they don’t mean anything. At 916 you have 4% chance, and AFTER THAT you get +1 for each 21 points. If they counted for anything, everyone would be critting all the time, and that’s not true. If you don’t invest on precission, you rarely see the red splash around your numbers that indicate a critical hit.
In other words total crit chance on gear is:
4 + 10,6 + 20,9 + 6 +7,8 +9,5 + 5 = 63,8 % crit chance.
(still sounds good to me having in mind for this calculation berserker gear is used where Power is primary stat)
Possible if added 100 points in traits will gat almost 5% would result 68% on berserker gear. Pity but still, this thing gives huge damage. With i.e. Bowl of Curry Butternut Squash Soup it is possible to get another 4,7% for 30 minutes = 72,7~73% chance. Seems like in best case 27% is missing :-/
Now what? Synergy with party?
Oh and I forgot to mention, some difficult bosses that require a lot of time and effort, give ridiculous cheap loot. I remember 6 of us fighting one huge karka and we killed it but everybody were spamming “LOL – 2 blues” or “WTF loot”.
This shouldn’t be. Epic boss let it give better loot. Right now it is bigger chance boss will give low cost junk than some item you could sell well or use. It is pointless to have so many high level creatures (gold or silver) when they drop more less same thing as regular mobs. Noone will fight it.
There is a certain type of player, which the OP may very well be, that prefers to obtain their in game items through direct effort rather than indirect effort.
Direct effort: “I want an item that needs 100 lodestones so I’ll farm 100 lodestones.”
Indirect effort: “I want an item that needs 100 lodestones, so I’ll do X for cash and buy the lodestones.”In many games, both are valid approaches. In GW2, at present, Direct Effort is staggeringly difficult.
It’s a playstyle choice. In GW1, you could go to UW for ecto, or you could buy it. You could kill destroyers for destroyer cores (glint’s challenge anyone?) or you could buy them from others…. the list goes on. You didn’t have to trade for things, and some people get more of a sense of accomplishment from using direct effort instead of indirect effort.
And OP, I’m with you, I prefer getting the mats myself, but in the current environment, it’s not entirely viable.
I agree with you. While leveling, game gives you a lot of choices. The player gets feel of freedom and flexibility from weapon choice and playstyle, “questing” to gear acquirement. Then when player hit 80, and need some specific items, this freedom is gone. At the moment I am farming 250 Powerful blood and it has better drop but still low. That is ok – I got patience and earn some money (not big money!) on the way. Yet, I was farming other things too and drop rate was desperate. I was lucky to have guildies to do things. But problem remain. Certain items have extremely rare drop. I personally quit to go for things that need lot of any Lodestones. We need choices to be able to find items in game that we need.
Tell your friend to listen EliteZ.1682 advice. I might add, my friend got lucky with Black Lion chests and has like 100+ of those stones. But that is his luck.
Also tell him it would be better to spend money on gems to unlock certain things like extra bag slots, extra bank slots, extra character/toon slots. And let him work with everybody in dungeons and events to earn gold for those stones.
One of things in the Manifesto ANet explained (I can’t quote but it goes like this):
We don’t need raids as in raid, most individuals can’t measure it’s contribution to the goal of the raid. While working in small groups of 5 players, every player must contribute to achieve a goal.
I agree with this. It is pointless for ranged units to stand there and spam same combination of abilities. Melee players might enjoy more yet still, someone can go in the back, occasionally do something then chill, then do again and hey – he would be in the raid. Then it would be endless rage “We failed because you didn’t…”, “No I did my best… I was the one… How can you… It is him….”. When look in small groups, you clearly see who is chilling.
I agree with uknortherner.2670 and BananaMatrix.3702 and also with
smezmer.1206 and Adine.2184 – we do have them yet we don’t need to spend ages spaming LFG and organizing everything. Temple of Balthazar and Claw of Jormag works pretty well as raid and happens regularly (Gandara) with a lot of success. There are others I came across while leveling in low level zones! Why bother then?
If you like these kind of fights, why don’t you ask for more of these events trough out the world? For instance, they could be organized in timed manner. For instance we have 10 events like this in different zones across Tyria. Once one event is finished, in some other zone (pre)event is starting and players could WP there. This way, we could have a group of people who like these activities and would play it as “pilgrimage” more less. Could be even as daily achievement on these large scale events.
It is relatively easy to achieve 100% chance without buffs on any profession. I did this calculation for my ele but any class can have it.
Easiest way to get 100% is using rampager gear where precision is main stat and with power and condition damage. A bit harder is with berserker since main stat is power but gives more direct damage and increases critical damage (basic crit damage is 150% normal damage, with crit damage increase on berserker gear can go over 215%!)
According to this article
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Precision
On lvl80, every profession has base precision of 916 and 4% crit chance. On lvl80 it is required 21 precision point to have 1% crit chance. This means:
Basic Precision:
916 / 21 = 43,6% crit chance
Armor precision (hat + shoulders + chest + gloves + leggings + boots) :
32 + 24 + 72 + 24 + 48 +24 = 224 / 21 = 10,6% crit chance
Trinkets/bling (earring + earring + ring + ring + amulet + 5 x ruby jewel)
40 + 40 + 48 + 48 +64 + (5 × 40) = 440 / 21 = 20,9% crit chance
weapon (2x one handed or two handed weapon with same berserker stats)
128 / 21 = 6% crit chance
6 runes on armor (i.e. Eagle rune)
25 + 50 +90 = 165 / 21 = 7,8% crit chance
Traits (using precision branch)
200 / 21 = 9,5% crit chance
Superior Sigil of Accuracy on weapon gives 5% crit chance (or have back item with more precision <- advisable)
Total: 43,6 + 10,6 + 20,9 + 6 +7,8 +9,5 + 5 = 103,4 % crit chance.
So no need for extra food, but it is listed I provided above what food increases precision.
For detail calculation, visit this spread sheet on this address:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0An_0ysyhMLt3dHkxUDU0NGNrRXhCSnZXQkZQM3NiZlE
First sheed is rampager gear, second is berserker and third is magic find.
(edited by Inkubus.7529)
100% crit chance is not too much and not need to be nerfed. I play high crit berserker ele and these crits comes very handy but it is PvE only and for dungeons (but not all dungeons if there is no dedicated healer). It is very demanding on player skill as this high damage can be a burden for a whole party if such glass cannon die too often. Having 11K health and no toughness at all, it is really hard to remain alive. PUGs are usual problem. But if some well built team is there, 100% crit chance with 215% crit damage is really beneficial to the party.
Same here. please change title of this thread, call it login problem or something.
Error 42 means the servers have connectivity issues. Example, cannot connect to the log-in.
It’s 404 – Server not found
Oh joy! Let us sing to get login servers back!
This again? Epic fail.
Erebus.7568 – when ele is specced as healer all offensive spells are really bad.
If you want dedicated healer or tenk – you can be so. Role ele, take staff, and invest traits into healing – easiest healer ever. People simply don’t want to go for this due to his fantastic offensive abilities.
If there is no other healer on the map, maybe you need better deal in your guild.
As for dungeons, here is my idea about it. It is long but it was needed to make it clear what I meant by it
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/Dungeon-mechanic-example-randomized-dungeon/first#post955280
So much fail in this post. This has been in the forums before and already discussed. Downed state is the core of the game combat mechanics and will stay in the game no matter what. You can cry and QQ as much you want, but downed state remains.
I would advise you to listen to RyuDragnier.9476 tips and use in your benefit instead of QQ, in other words, learn to play with some tactics. I used downed state so many times to kill more than one player but everything has it’s limits. You can’t solo 10 players unless they are really bad.
I agree with OP. Game is good, best MMO I played and played a lot. When I say played, I really played not just try and I try a lot of MMOs. It was so good so exciting to play at first and now it is just as ontages.6542. Straylight.7408, it is not just PvP, there yould be more content. In the suggestions player gave so much of it and we didn’t saw single implementation of those good suggestions. It is only their feedback, nothing else.
It makes me feel sad. GW2 is the game I played the most after Skyrim in 2012 and still I can create new toon in Skyrim and have same addictive fun as 7 months ago but here, I have 4 toons on 80, 1 on 11 and free toon slot! I don’t have desire to level up this fifth toon, nor to create 6th.
But the reason I feel sad the most is that Arena Net won’t change their mind about it. They will continue as usual while population decline as there is no interest in the game to play. I just made parallel with Mass Effect. I played ME1 and 2 so many times. Once I finished ME3 I had no desire to try again, to take different choices. Ending is bad. Above all, they had chance to fix it and they ruined that chance totally.
I just hope Wintersday is not that last chance for GW2. Good luck Arena Net.
I recorded this 3rd December

And I recorded this today (one month later)

Seems most players are leaving and not because the game is bad, but not being able to entertain. In other words – most players agree with ontages.6542.
Not sure if this is a bug but it would be nice if patched so ppl can’t fall in. I had to wait there whole fight as I am flagged “in combat” and as such unable to use WayPoint. Look at video:
I agree with OP.
My problem with WvW is that represent unfinished product in technical terms of speaking. Game engine is not well optimized for WvW and makes game horribly slow even with lowered resolution and reduced graphics. That is not fun, it is bad as hell and as such should not be forced upon players to do it.
I would like to, but that is not happening. ANet will ignore this and keep things as it is. I think they will try to find some solution to restore likeness of the game but probability of is small.
Agree. There goes + from me.
I think that waypoints (all of them) should be free as a reward for 100 percent map completion. If you have 100 percent map completion you get your bus ticket.
Nice idea yet it would ruin this nice money sink and as such people might get more money to spend on gems and thus ruin the value of gemstore. That is my opinion at least. Also, in almost all other MMOs, there is some fee for fast travel and that is OK. But also, most of other MMOs have one mechanism of getting you free to one point. And I don’t take this go to SPvP/WvW and back to LA as free port. It is rather a nuisance.
Already suggested on reddit. My contribution to that suggestion that hero panel should have a button “Get me home” and will teleport player to their’s toon racial capital.
Anyway, most people use entering into SPvP (Heart of the Mists) and from there to LA. I never personally used WvW for the same thing but it is possible and I guess a lot of people use this too.
Having this would reduce Overflow on LA zone and really think it is good free port to racial capital – they made these cities so pretty and so detail, why wasting so much effort when everybody are in LA only?
Keep up with uploading on YT!
The thread becomes quite ridiculous when thread itself burst into endless flaming especially by the people who use capital characters….
Anyway, I play elementalist and really liked playing it with staff. Most people do and staff is simple to use and gives a lot freedom to use skills more less anyway you want except element CDs to be kept eye on. But, most people like me never fully appreciated other weapon sets that can be extremely powerful.
Those 4 elements can be seen as weapons and people must think more of possible combinations (combos and rotations) of abilities that belong to different attunement. This way, elementalist can give fantastic results, true it is demanding but giving weapon swap like to other classes is really op. There are 2 very good abilities on focus in Earth that can make huge dissbalance if secondary weapon is D/D or staff combination.
Instead of within combat, weapon swap would be nice to be added out of the combat. Just as other utility skills can’t be changed in combat, neither weapon should (for elementalist). And this is already suggested on other thread.
Here is good example:
In dungeon, I usually make good support with my staff, doing a lot of AoE damage across all elements. But some bosses are better to be attacked with different weapon. Some elementalists like me do this by opening Hero panel, manually swapping the weapon and catching up the teammates. In CoE, there is plenty situations like this and depending on the part of the dung, I change staff, D/D or S/F as needed. This takes time and my teamates can suffer until I get to them. It would be nice once we dispose certain group of enemies and Out Of Combat CD is off, to be able to swap.
It is similar situation in SPvP where elementalist don’t know enemies and certain enemies are better handled with different weapon set. So quick OOC weapon swap is nice. Same goes for WvW. I assume people would like to chase other people with D/D but when in zerg fight people would like to change weapon to Staff maybe without going into Hero panel.
I hope its a bug. If its intentional, the person behind making that desicion must have been smoking something.
You are too kind -.-
I can’t preview armor of other type but can preview weapons even those I can’t handle. This is very stupid! If I like to preview armor regardless of the toon profession. Maybe I am currently on one toon grinding tokens for another toon. Maybe friend told me some good combination of armor pieces to check it out. I really hope this was not intentional.
This again? I thought moderator clearly wrote on other thread to “refrain from nerf class x” threads.
In any way, as hard for me to say but I finally have to say it (using different words) – you must learn more about particular issue that gives you problem. Most importantly, enemy player will surely try to do something you don’t expect, so have that in mind. I would advise you to take my example.
I was very happy ele with staff in PvE. It really made me learn to kite to the best of the class and it was really fun for me. When I entered SPvP, I wasn’t so good with the staff. I was changing tactics and had limited success. I even nailed scepter dagger eles like piece of cake. I thought thieves are overpowered with their stealth etc. I still think they are much easier class to learn than ele. Easier to learn I wrote not OP or to be nerfed, but not to be boosted either.
Problem was, I never took even into consideration double dagger weaponset. Then I saw so many posts “nerf D/D ele”. Then I decided to do what I supposed to do in the first place – Google forums and dig YouTube. It was very difficult for me to change to double dagger. OK, I started badly then I started to track enemies. I tried to get into logic behind thieves. Understood how they work and instead of CDs, they have initiative as limitation. What else – they get kitten if they waste their initiative in nothing – BINGO! So I use that into my advantage, make faceroll thieves to waste initiative into nothing and then they are mine. But not all thieves are mine. There are good thieves and I can’t get them – not because of stealth, but because they played smart.
I got a friend who play thief and he was so mush into “ele is too OP need nerf” and I started explaining how everything you need is on the other element or on CD. I persuaded him to roll new toon – ele. Meanwhile, I am playing thief – I planned tbh as I think it is very interesting class + always take new class on different race. His words “this ele doesn’t suits me at all”. That is the point! He will realize how difficult it is to play and on the way, he will become better against eles by knowing limitations of the class! I suggest you roll thief as well. Play PvE and play SPvP. You will learn advantages and disadvantages of the class. You will loose nothing and gain totally new experience + knowledge how to be better. Also, go to YouTube and find some mechanics how other people play against thief’s stealth and look into videos how thieves play.
Then a wild engineer appears and he nail me all the time. WTF? No – he did something I wasn’t expecting. Do remember that.
Well well… here this again…
I agree they need to do something about game mechanic. I think they made most beautiful cities in the game. I prefer all other cities over Lion’s Arch! Still, those cities seem deserted now. Why putting so much effort in the first place then?
As for weapon slot skills, it does sound fun and interesting but only to us after playing for so long the game and know quite a lot about our professions. The potential new player will be overwhelmed by the amount of abilities regardless of the profession and they did pointed out it was an issue to many new players in GW1 so they deliberately wanted to avoid that.
For the lack of communication – that is debatable. almost no answer on anything from Arena Net officials for weeks. This assumes that they all working very hard on upcoming Wintersday combined with “everybody needs money” they probably need more staff to do things yet you can’t spend too much on the employees due to monetizing system. They don’t have endless fonds so new people that would work with Arena Net need a lot of time to get the grip on the project. It looks simple when you play it, but it is very complex under the hood. Trust me I am programmer, I know how it looks my project to me and how pale were new guys when I started to explain to them complexity of the code.
Game divided sections are also making thing more complicated. We have huge PvE world, we have SPvP, we have WvW and now we have FotM “entity”. Each one of those require a lot of work to make it functional and even more to make it fun and amusing – regardless of technical superiority of the project itself. But, they are also humans and they can’t work on the same sections for many reasons. One of most obvious they will mess up the work of someone else working on the same thing. Other is that sometimes one type of people (programmers) don’t need to do designing content stuff. All in all, they have to spread manpower on different sections and do things all at once which is slower, fix bugs, find new bugs, fix exploits, find new exploits…. List is endless.
To wrap up, I like the game, but think there could be a lot of improvements. some things to be changed, but not in the way QQ ppl spam posts here. It makes one thing to me they could fix quick and easy but that is the thing I saw. What they see is really huge things to do all over the place + (and this is big one) pressure of producers. I am sure they have priorities, but I think they should plan future development more carefully. I am pretty sure they are overwhelmed with stryboard things to do.
@Inkubus RNG is still RNG, by wearing MF you are not guaranteed to get more drops, you have better chance. But if rares for example have 0.5% to drop, having 150% MF won’t make rares drop everywhere, MF is mostly for stuff that drops more often like mats, greens, blues.
Thanks for reply, but here how it looked like in my situation. Idea – farm items for gold.
Rampager gear on
It made me do more damage, quicker kill of so many mobs and got a lot of junk to sell and 50% of whites, maybe 35% blue and rest goes to green and yellow sometimes.
MF gear on
It made my dmg lower, took me a bit more time but not that longer time but looked like I almost don’t get those 50% of junk and whites. Like I am getting half of the drop. I got only 1-2 whites only and no yellows. I got like 60% of blue and rest of green.
Now, if I got any 100 items as drop with rampager gear, looked like I was getting only 50 items at best with MF gear.
Now suspicion that I am doing something wrong or my account is bugged came up when dungeoning. That is the main reason why I got MF gear. I thought my team mates have it. Now I don’t die a lot in dungeons (play ele with staff mostly), usually end up rezing others and yet, with MF on me or without it they get more often yellows than me – once every 3 runs at worst. I get yellow item once in 6 dungeon runs.
Does drop depends how fast you kill a mob? I heard that XP gain is higher the longer player fight the mob. Is loot opposite from that?
I don’t know guys but I don’t get much with MF gear :-/
I still miss MF rings and amulet yet all other items are MF and even back item has 3%MF. In total it is 89% of MF without Omnomnom bar. I was farming in Orr and Frostgorge sound on chain dynamic events for 3 days using only that armor and didn’t get any magnificent drop/loot. My goal was to gain better drop to gain gold. Then I returned to my full rampager gear and after 2 days I got more money than with MF gear on the same places I was with MF gear before.
I don’t know if something I do wrong, or my account is bugged or something else.
If anyone has tips or suggestions on this please let me know.
Yepp I got the similar idea except not only elementalist but to be bunch of all “wizard professions” including memsers and necromancers too. I even created a guild and named it Wizard’s Tower (Wisards Tower to be precise since ’ is not allowed) and then I remembered – me to recruiter of people? Handling QQs? Loosing precious time on organizing things instead of simply playing? Naah… let someone else do it.
lol
You play as D/D ele and see for yourself if the class is broken. Everything was just fine when PvE people having their glass canon jumped into SPvP and everybody were like
“How to kill ele? Sneeze in his general direction!”
Now, some people learned to play ele in SPvP and all the sudden it is a big problem because it doesn’t fit anymore in the beginning with glass canon ele.
Oh wait, I just remembered – there was an engineer guy the other day in SPvP and I couldn’t kill him. Quick, I am gonna make post that eng is broken class and needs to be nerfed!
PS: Seriously, that is the first eng nailing me real good whole evening. Also a necro but still don’t think those professions should be nerfed.
… your post about thief #3 dont evne ahve anything to do with axes for thief, truth be told i dont care much if they get or dont get axes. daggers for memser well mesmer DO need another ranged main hand option other than scepter, so if daggers will fit that that then sure, otherwsie same as for thief axe. ele weapon swap, oh god NO they already got more than enough skills to use in combat…warrior/engi/ranger i ahvent played enough to say…
Regarding your reaction to ele – same here for thief having axe. Well I did played all except guardian profession. That is the reason why I am against thieves get axes. If thieves get axes, others must get something too.
While Yes i have played a thief enough to know the #3 no offhand skills SUX, my main is in fact a mesmer… so maybe don’t jump so much to conclusions?
So no, im not QQ’ing or anything like that (in fact i rarely if ever used the skills that was a bit over the top, when i do play/played my thief), but trying to talk about the #3 no offhand as actually being viable skills is just plain silly, since they don’t even match up to the other #3’s on same weapon let alone justify not using an offhand
Still misses my point and yes you are QQ about. Above all, doesn’t justify axe for thief. In fact maybe you are right! Maybe thieves do need axes, and mesmers do need daggers, and elementalists do need weapon swapping, and necros and guardians need dual pistols, warriors need pistols and staff, engineers need swords and axes, rangers need rifles and pistols…
Supporting is still just as important a part of the game as in WoW, But in GW2 supporting is probably only 20% healing and 80% buffing/debuffing. Personally I like it better that way but to each his own.
Correction 30 water, 30 arcane, 10 earth and staff. Arcane line also increase duration of boons and that is exactly what healer needs. Here is the build.

Area of Healing rain and geyser will be quite larger. Amount of damage with basic attack would be small so will probably not pull agro but will heal all melee players. For quick revival if needed there is a Glyph of renewal. It can be exchanged for Arcane blast to make self combo on Geyser and Healing rain inflicting extra regeneration.
Regeneration remove condition, swapping element to let say earth, casting Shockwave and/or Unsteady ground to help party members then cast back to earth end they will gain regeneration again and remove conditions again.
Summoning Water elemental is encouraged as he also heals himself and all nearby party members with every hit.
From my point of view, ele can be easiest and obvious healer specced. Also, people say guardian can heal good too but haven’t played that profession yet.
The voice is also making it more heart appealing.
I would recommend a sword and to be possible to carry only in main hand if you refer to elementalist. As for shaman, or any other profession – i doubt. I think this is idea is nice but problem is that probably won’t get in any consideration.
and did YOU notice that the #3 skill on ANY main hand weapon when using no offhand completely SUX, in any and all situations. For example the pistol #3 with no offhand is basically just a worse version of Unload (p/p #3)
As for enginneer’s they got kits to make up for the limited amount of weapon’s so they are fine on that front (and can even have as much as 35 weapon skills to use in combat if they go all kits in all slots)
No offense but why rage? First of all, I don’t realize how did you managed to miss my point. (that was not a question). Second, you make it as other profession’s have always better abilities and thieves only the worst.
Also, I don’t realize how it is possible that player who plays thief profession QQ the most about everything? Thief is profession that is easiest of all to pick up and you constantly QQ about this and about that, others have this, we don’t… Seriously, thief players used to faceroll and now they got a bit nerfed to make them use tactics and combinations of abilities and all the sudden we get QQ wall.
Sure, engineer’s have such possibility yet it doesn’t mean it is always good. I rolled eng, played for a while and quit as I realize it requires more effort than I am ready atm. So when I went to SPvP I met only ONCE an engineer that was really good and was able to defeat me. Statistically – it is quite obvious they are difficult class to play. On the other hand, most players roll thief as easiest way to gain score in SPvP.
It is easy to watch other’s how use their skills, but to use them yourself is totally different thing. I leveled ele to 80, warrior to 80, ranger to 80, necromancer to 80, tried mesmer and engineer for a wile and now I am leveling thief – so far easiest profession of all.
(Why do mesmers get dual swords and thief don’t?)
Mesmers represent glamour and noblety. As such they use weapons that noble would put in his hand. It perfectly fits to the noble. Rifle, warhorn and axe have no place in noble’s hand as well as dual pistols – as if those combinations are too primitive for them.
As for thieves, did you notice that thief is the only profession that has skill 3 different when off hand is empty and occupied? Maybe it encourages players to use only one weapon with thief, maybe they want to mimic acrobatic nature of thief having free hand for better balance. Seems logical to me.
Further more, what engineers should say on all this? They got only 2 weapons and shield!
