I’m going to call skeptic on the res-orb sales theory, but I do agree with the waypoint respawn timer.

I would, however, propose a slightly larger timer on the respawn. The group cohesion aspect this update is promoting actually favors ressing even the dead, rather than just the downed. If the timer was 30 seconds, I might be inclined to just leave the body and let them waypoint back after the 30. Given 1-2 minutes, instead, there is more motivation, closer to current game play, to get that player back up and in the action ASAP.

A more interesting character to fit your work, methinks would be…

Riisa Tepther
References: Armor, Face Close Up, Face Profile
Bio: Riisa Tepther—a spirit of the Aether in physical form. Riisa is a highly reserved character, with current affiliation with the Priory. She speaks concisely, confidently, and only when necessary. Regarded by her Priory associates as an act of god, Riisa is considered a valuable asset in times of war, bearing an incredible grasp of power over the elements that is on par with and occasionally exceeding natural disasters. For this reason, Riisa is treated as a nuclear option, and is only used when the potential for collateral damage is outweighed by the risks of an unopposed threat. She often is found within the vast libraries of the Priory, reading through piles of books at a time.

Hopefully this is a good start for you. I’d be glad to supply more information if you’d like, otherwise, take full artistic license.

Quite a tantalizing offer. If you don’t mind, I’d be glad to take you up on your offer.

Name: Eilusia
References: Armor, Face
Bio: Eilusia is an enigmatic character by nature. There are numerous documented sightings of her among various places in the world, be it alone wandering a forest, shrouded in the night, or speaking with a cloaked figure amidst the city. In each case, she disappeared with no notice or influence on her surroundings, as if in the blink of an eye. What is known about her is she is quiet, quick, and when she wishes to be, never seen.

If you need any further details, don’t hesitate to ask. I’d be glad to supply more information or references if necessary.

References ho!

Character Name: Riisa Tepther
Pose/Concept: Riisa is a reserved, albeit fairly powerful and confident caster type. A few ideas could be amidst an incantation, drawing out some aerial runes, with a spell circle behind her, or perhaps summoning a meteor. More or less playing into the Elementalist nature of the character.
Alternately, for a non-action pose, you may opt to play into her more reserved nature, as she often haunts the priory library, immersed in stacks of books at a time..
References: Armor, Face

If any of this is insufficient, feel free to private message me and I’d be glad to supply more information or references if necessary. Otherwise, I offer full artistic license and free reign on this.

Speaking for the nature of costume brawl:

1 – Fires bats – attacks 3 times forwards
2 – Cauldron – allows other people to enter into costumes / animals
3 – Ooze pool – damages AoE
4 – Broom – protected from brawl skills
5 – Break

Definitely a good investment.

Can we get someone from Blizzard to help ANet out?

Invertation.4293

I’ll tempt fate and comment here.

GW2 took a different path on Dungeons entirely. An abandonment of many of the concepts you vaguely highlighted, in favor of embracing new sorts of challenges. But, why not hit your points one by one?

High Difficulty:
This one is a trick. MOST dungeon routes are generally do-able with most party compositions. That is, the trick is you have to learn what element is troublesome, and then find the way around it. Party formations, when to dodge, who to take out first, or a more complicated objective. These are some of those elements that the players have to adapt to. It’s sort of the mentality of Demons Souls, really. The game makes you adapt to it until you are good enough to handle the challenge.

Rewards and XP too low:
I might beg to differ on this one. While learning a dungeon may have a higher armor repair cost, it generally, on a very bad run, will neutralize the rewards you get for completion, this not including the value of dropped items. XP is another case entirely, with almost a level gained per dungeon run at level 80.

Traps:
This is an element of caution. A wary party would be wise to probe for what lays ahead than jumping into the fray unprepared. Entirely an element of the experience of the dungeon.

Additional mobs/agro:
For the most part, this isn’t too much of an issue. Some dungeon sequences will send a large number of foes fairly quickly, but quick adaptation can handle this in many cases. For the majority of the dungeon, a party can siphon off a bite sized chunk of mob that they can handle.

Group Search:
Location and Organization here.
A. Form up outside the dungeon for pick up groups.
B. Wait in a major city (Lion’s Arch) to recruit or find other groups
C. Form/Join a guild and run with them.
It may be nice to have a specific feature, but options are there.

Healing/Tank (Trinity)
Individually, and as a group, players are ultimately responsible for their own survivability. Ranged can stay alive fairly easily by keeping out of range of foes that will deal heavy damage to them. Melee can use well timed dodge maneuvers, and if worse comes to worse, have the party fall in to keep alive. There’s no need for a tank/damage/heal setup here. The responsibility is on the individual player to keep themselves alive, and if that fails, to keep each other up and moving. It’s a coordinated effort, but by no means is there a need for the trinity. Each player can fulfill those functions on their own. What teamwork means here is every player working together to accomplish that same objective—taking out the hardest foe first so it doesn’t overwhelm the party, not that the healer keeps the tank alive and the damage dealer to just unleash damage nonstop. It’s a more dynamic experience, more involved, and that level of individual responsibility greatly stimulates group work to achieve the greater objectives.

No reason to do Dungeons:
Comradery? Tokens? Armor? The thrill of experiencing the more developed, and puzzling aspects of the game? Drops and money aren’t the only reasons for Dungeons.

Level Limit Breaks dungeons:
This is a fun point to note. See, the level cap per dungeon actually makes balancing particularly easy. A team of players will have a relatively consistent challenge, regardless of their actual level. There’s no level 80 requirement for Ascalon Catacombs, and a level 80 will have a similar challenge to that of a level 35. That being said, the rewards can also be balanced for a level 80 just as they can for a level 35. The level cap genuinely makes dungeons better. The experience will remain the same, even if your level doesn’t.

GW2 aspired to follow it’s own path. What you are suggesting is that the game adopts some of the elements it chose to break away from, and hinder the experience they intended to create.

But, I ramble here.

The torches are difficult without absolute coordination, and even difficult with given the respawn timers. As suggested above, putting your squishier players on the easier torches does alleviate some of the stress, but it can still be tricky.

My major beef with the 3rd route is the wave defense section. The trick with that being that the next wave will attack while you’re fighting your current one, putting serious pressure on your party given the lack of downtime to recharge.

Dungeons: Worst drops of history of drops

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Invertation.4293

Invertation.4293

Well, if you want to bring up Deep and Urgoz as a comparison… I did these regularly up until release of GW2. The difference is having a good collection of people you can rely on to run with—a guild, if you would. And you should know that the drops had little value that late into the game, so why did I do it? For the fun of it. Seriously, just that. Arranging 11 other people, just to lay siege to the lair of Urgoz and Kanaxai.

As far as rewards for them go, I like the (updated) token functionality. I get exactly what I want out of it with enough energy invested. Not to say I’d turn down a marginal chance at a dungeon specific drop, but I think the dungeon system is functional as is.

Is DR Supposed to Affect Tokens (or Just Gold & Experience)?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Invertation.4293

Invertation.4293

To address both of these, the DR does effect both tokens and silver rewards. This is fairly easy to avoid by just alternating through routes, unless you’ve done the whole dungeon quite a few times in a short time frame.

And Dennet, 20 is the default , non DR influenced reward. There’s a daily bonus per dungeon route that awards 60 tokens instead of 20 that resets at 5:00 server time every day. I’d guess you did route 3 twice before the daily reset.

An update with references!

If I could, I’d like to make a request for Minaus, with an additional reference for her face and glow pattern.

Grenadier extraordinaire, and with quite a devious side to boot. For a concept, I’d imagine her with one of each of the given grenades—Shrapnel, Flash, Freeze, and Poison—between each finger in her left hand, and the pulled pins on each finger on the right hand, all the while sporting a devilish grin.

Let me know if you need any additional information, otherwise I leave the rest entirely to your discretion.

Single currency for all dungeons/ current system discourages fun and varied gameplay with friends

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Invertation.4293

Invertation.4293

I can appreciate both sides of this argument, but I feel inclined to support the individual dungeon tokens. After all, the particular dungeon reward armor is associated with that particular dungeon. It would be a little peculiar to get the Flame Legion armor having done only AC.

Block purchase of non-class specific armor purchase from vendors

in Suggestions

Posted by: Invertation.4293

Invertation.4293

To set the premise of this: I recently got enough tokens for a chest piece. Previewed it, ready for the purchase, but I closed out the vendor. When I reopened the tab, I made the mistake of purchasing the heavy armor piece as opposed to the medium piece. Trouble is, it’s soulbound, unsellable, non returnable, and ultimately, unusable.

So, the suggestion being to prevent us players from purchasing a piece of armor that will become character locked that we can’t use. So, if I’m a medium armor user, allow that particular character to only purchase medium armor from a token vendor.

CoF Maggs bomb planting

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Invertation.4293

Invertation.4293

The difficulty is more of a simulated difficulty than an actual difficulty. I idolize the design of Kohler’s battle in AC because there is a reasonable way to adapt to the challenge. What we’ve seen in this route of CoF is countless exploits trying to avoid it because that artificial difficulty.
I don’t want to remove the challenge from dungeons—I love the thrill and the heat of battle, but at the same time, I want there to be a challenge that’s less dependent on a stream of party members using the nearest waypoint to keep agro off of Magg the instant they die.

Invertation.4293

I’ll throw my two cents in on this one:

My guild has attempted this part of the dungeon with a marked target for the kill, every time. We’ll generally get one down by the time the second group goes up, and kite continuously while dealing DPS to attempt to take more down. Ultimately, it comes down to a slaughter fest with us cycling in players to keep them off Magg. On the successful runs through that section, I will have died around 4 times. On the unsuccessful encounters, we will have to repeat the chain 3-4 times to succeed, much to the disdain of my armor repair costs.

I feel the trouble with the room is the fact that we’re encountering 3 elite level foes right off, notably difficult to take down. This is an appreciable challenge, but the snowball effect is what really kills it. There could be a number of ways to keep the viability of the challenge in this room, while making it more feasible to do.
For example, as opposed to 3 elite foes, one elite and two veterans would provide a sufficiently possible challenge with the current pace of enemy spawns.
Alternately, keep the 3 elite spawns, but give the party more time to defeat them.

The room doesn’t have to be so frustrating for so many people, nor does it have to be particularly easier. Just a different approach to this would make it more reasonable.

Invertation.4293

Forgive my not searching for a thread with these similar suggestions, I’m sure there are too many similar to justify selecting just one to reply to.

The general idea here is to reduce the imposition that ingame costs have.

So, in the way of Waypoints, I suggest a cap at 1s for the furthest location at level 80. Waypoint costs in the mid copper range are cheap enough to be desirable to use for distance, and significant enough that bounding about a map isn’t the most desirable option, but doesn’t mutilate our reserves if we do.

Additionally, looking towards armor repair, I feel it’s not the worst in General PvE, but given the difficulty in Dungeons, I suggest a cap to the maximum armor repair cost. Something that would be within the realm of reason is 5 armor pieces, or ~10s. This would make perpetuated failure less dissuasive in dungeons while still making deaths have a penalty against the end reward.
