PS: Question to the Benders (or YB’er), what is the meaning of a /bow after you killed me by the way? I was thinking of adapting it, and have done it a couple of times, but I don’t believe I grasp the meaning of it.

Take it my way, bowing after you kill someone usually means, thanks for the fight, or good try, for example you bow to your opponent that took 5 minutes to kill, its a symbol of respect and sportsmanship[/quote]

When I witness valiant defence, players not giving up against superior force, or a display of just pure skill I think the defeated opponent(s) deserve a sign of respect.

Sadly ANet stop me from conversing with the enemy on such matters so a bow is all I have.

Coming up with “explainable, justifiable” new math for the new rating calculation will be a challenge for ArenaNet’s WvW crew. Balanced match-ups get sent to the middle of the pack, uneven matchups against weaker foes boost you to the top.
I await the announcement of these new ratings formulas.

Yes it is disturbing. Many on my mid tier server are rightly or wrongly trying to manipulate our score to be lower by not logging in with fear we will hit tier1 and have weeks of agony on our way back to mid tier

Maybe leaving SoR which was heavily bandwagoned for a less populated one could help also.

There has been feedback from others on lower tier servers that queues are also happening there. Anet appear to have decreased the pop limit and this may have exacerbated the issues with the inconcistency in the queueing. Plus even on the higher tiers the queues are far far longer than they were when free transfers stopped.

Yup your old home of Yaks Bend had several hour queues this weekend and we both know that is madness. Hope we get all this sorted out for everyone soon

It’s easy to see why the queues are so much longer now.
-ANet reduced the amount of players in WvWvW for lesser culling.
-Transfer now isn’t free.

So they can say culling is much better now and gain some extra money for transfer costs.

Only a WvW spends hours defending the supply chain for no reward

Only a WvW player spends gold on upgrades only to see them wiped out by enemy night cappers as our players log off for the night

Only a WvWer spends a gold each day on siege only to see it keep disappearing (And the PvErs thought the Mystic Forge was a destroyer of wealth)

Only WvWers think Dusk and Dawn is the beginning and end of a Friday night reset session (or a Tarantino film of course)

So there is an issue with queue’s, well a massive issue.

But the worst issue is the lack of any responce from Anet. At least let us know they are aware of these problems and trying to fix them.

I’ve had a lack of community feeling since BWE#1. It just seems that Anet is more concerned with getting new content out (Halloween, Wintersday, Lost Shores, Flame and Frost) than fixing broken game mechanics in Dungeons, WvW, class skills/traits (Necro hint hint).

I do agree wtih your main point but I’d like to add that the work done to the core of the game, even fixed and adjustments to events in the leveling progress has impressed me. many games are happy to solely cater to end game post release and leave the errors in the progression zones but arena net has developed an excellent pve world.

in terms of bug fixes for wvw its not been that bad when it has been delviered, the culling and zone populaton issue at present is really the only bad move.

What gets me more than the prioritisation of fixes/content etc. is the speed to reply to major wvw issues, even a we are looking into the issue or an acknowledgement of taking into account polls and opinions on culling would be better than “the wall of silence” (good title)

Yes overall the amount of updates and content has been impressive sadly we have had nothing, absolutely nothing for WvW since launch bar ANet taking away potential for rewards.

I know an update is coming this month, but the wall of silence about it is …discouraging.

Agreed. We had a similar problem with Catapults a couple of days back. WvW is easily the most expensive part of the game, has the least reward for hours spent and still they want more blood.

I feel the WvW community is like that town in the magnificent seven constantly getting raided by organised (ANet) miltia. We NEED Yul Bryner or 7 Samurai

I was sharing the best (most of them) quotes on our guilds WvW forum and the leader there added a few more than I thought worthy of reposting:

Only a WvW player has to cooperate with 150 others to achieve a goal (I do think he is being a little optimistic with the numbers here considering the queue bug but I do like his postivity!)
Only a WvW player robs banks to fund their play time (So that’s where he gets his gems!)
Only a WvW player gets guilty when doing a fractal and the point tic is 20
Only a WvW player spend 5 gold to do an upgrade twice a day (and thats why he has to rob banks!)

I agree that a reset is fair after free transfers end.

However they should have put a week or two of fast matchups of 1 or 3 days not more.

This, although not perfect, would have saved us a lot of boring weeks.

Next week in EU we are having 2 servers moving up more than 20 posts in the classification, this is quite an aberration.

I doubt they do this for money as most of the people will trade gold for gems if they want to transfer, they will not buy with cash.

I agree that for some strange reason Anet has mistreated WvW players since launch, with crap updates if any.

I think the disconnection the OP talks about sadly happens in every big game and this one is no exception.

It is difficult to listen to the player base as it always has a variety of contradictory opinions, but I dont understand this case, where it is obvious that the WvW population is the one keeping the game alive and running.

Or anyone imagines this game without WvW and its players?

You talk alot of sense. I know from the 500+ guild I am a member of thatplayers are spending less time in game…APART from the WvW community which is growing as understandably more and more playersare seeking something new, less predictable and more challenging overall.

Of course the one thing that puts the kKarbosh on that is very unbalanced matchups.

I cannot arrange a guild event to introduce inexperienced people to WvW when a Bandwagon server is spawn camping everything with their hordes after having utterly dominated the map for days on end.

Arenanet have NO obligation to explain their internal systems to you, and I encourage them to keep them a secret.

My first thought is the Omega Siege gollem in not worth it, you would be better with just 5 alpha gollems.

Hello ANet,

As you can see from this Fridays reset queues have now trumped culling as our, your WvW communities highest priority.

We would like to understand:

1) Is the queue ordered fairly so the player who clicked first gets in first or is it random as subjective evidence appears? If not are you working on addressing this?

2) If the answer to 1 is yes it is fair, can you advise if there is work ongoing to implement a counter showing what number in the queue a player is in? If not could someone explain why not?

3) Waiting times seem to be increasing on many servers. Is this a technical issue as players are stating whereby the server still has players that have logged out of WvW maps counted as active? If so, are you working on fixing it and if not could you provide an explanation why not?

4) Now things have settled down after a large number of WvW players have congregated to just a few servers (for the record I am not on one of those servers and still waited 2 hours to log in yesterday), could a senior member of the team outline ANet strategy to reduce waiting times? Please also include your thinking on next month when we have a WvW centric patch implemented. This is likely to increase WvW populations significantly if you do it right but could spoil your plans and your disappoint regular WvWers if queue times increase still further for everyone.

Thank you ANet for creating a popular fun game. Your player base just like you want it to continue to thrive and feel these questions are important to that end.

So there is no queue length because it is random? Certainly evidence from chatting to guildmates whilst queueing would suggest entry in a WvW map is not based on next one in is the player waiting the longest.

I have a hunch the last patch has reduced the populations for each map and coupled with some servers getting a lot of transfers I think reset is going to keep having multi hour queues for many servers. YB has queues on all 4 maps and I have been waiitng 90 minutes and we are not a top WvW server so goodness knows how excruciating it must be on there.

There are only queues because people piled on to a handful of servers looking for glory. The people that have been loyal and stayed with those servers from Day1. Those I feel sorry for.

The only solution i see rigth now is to make the first five or six encounters to last 1 or 2 days instead a week.

This would not be a solution as diff servers have diff numbers on diff days of week, some have more ppl fri-sun and less ppl mon-fri others have roughly the same everyday

Its a good deal better than spending 3/4 weeks getting smashed or being so dominate there is nothing to do

Been on my server since first week of the game so yes. However it has been depressing seeing people leave for bandwagon servers but it wont change how I feel about Yaks Bend!!

It’s taken FA roughly from release till about two months ago before we got decent matchups. Looks like we can look forward to another 3 months of nonsense.

Oh well, at least the last week should be super exciting on NA. The last tier 1 slugfest of old ratings, dolyak war v3 in T2, battle of the new Maguuma and the new Kaineng in T3 with special guest dragonbrand, in T4 Yak’s Bend gets a favorable matchup, and T5-T8 i dunno I don’t keep track of those.

i agree, when matches were finally getting balanced it seems like Anet wants us to go back to first days of release of gw2. Where everything wasnt balanced. Is this WvW season 2? or end of WvW?

whatever it is, its bad for vast majority of their WvW playerbase. We do not want week long matches where one server is utterly dominant and effectivly shuts down all opportunity to play such as what’s happened in Tier4 this week.

Shorten the matches to 1 or 2 days for a few cycles, before returning to weeklies. It is not perfect however it would eliminate server communities rendered unable to play fo r a week at a time, due to completely lopsided matches like what has happened in tier4 this week.

Why are they using this frustrating method to balance the rankings when things could be accelerated from weeks to days by adjusting matches to much short length for a period.

It is likely some matches will be lop sided week after next meaning unfun, boring gameplay as two weak servers get smashed by one of the bandwagons.

We have tossed around some ideas for ways to improve the system [Bags dropping in WvW] but it’s relatively low priority so nobody is actively working on it right now.

Raise this priority! The absolute worst thing about WvW is the horrendous reward system, and this is greatly in part because people don’t want to spend their time (or can’t because they are dead) running around picking up loot bags after a fight. The current system is so bad it just silly. You can’t even just spam “F” to pick them up mid fight because all you do is end up rezzing someone (and getting stuck doing it while you die) or picking up a stupid banner. Fix this, Please god, fix it.

Agreed. This trumps all as it actively discourages participation of casuals who would help bolster ranks and make matches more competitive rather than one sides affairs where the only thing that matters is how many hardcore WvWers your server has and what time they log in/out

Going to be honest. I have almost no interest on what happens outside my own server and the servers we play. Its likely YB and SBI will be facing each other very soon and that is something I am looking forward as I am sick to death of fighting bandwagon servers

*If your server is outmanned in a BL go to another.
*If it’s because your server doesn’t WvW much then transfer to a server that does.

Other people shouldn’t be denied fun because of your server’s laziness/low population. That’s not their fault.

I feel that a similar argument could be used in reverse.

*If your server is capped in a BL, go to another.
*If it’s because your server is inflated with WvW players, transfer to a server that isn’t and become part of the solution rather than the problem.

Other servers shouldn’t be denied fun (not able to compete) because of stacked server populations.

When the matches are closer then it is much more fun.

Well said. This isnt about winning or losing. It is about having competitive play. No one wants to be part of Rollerstomps as it gets very boring very quickly and every server involved loses out

I feel a bit sorry for Kaineng server if they have nasty queues already. When February WvW patch hits and people come back, casuals give it a try the queue times will be insane.

However I feel even more sorry for servers they get ROFLstomped by them because their ranking has been borked

I hope we gain more passionate, considerate, want to have fun players too.

If you/your guild are looking to find a Final Resting place whilst it is still free you have so many great choices from Top Tier play with Glory and Queue times going hand in hand to Low leagues looking to rebuild perhaps after a mass exodus and coping with low morale where you could be that spark that sees them rise again.

Of course your best choice would be Yaks Bend where our primary ambition is to have fun competitive matches and I think that exactly what you will get in about 1-2 weeks once things calm down. Come join the fun!

I dont think you really have a grasp of whats going on here so ill try to simply it: At certain points in the past, some servers had more players, or better players or both, which contributed to their standings in wvw. In some of these servers, a trend develops and many of these players leave in a mass exodus, which leaves a previously higher tier server with a lower tier capability. Due to the way the point system works in wvw, it takes a few weeks for the new wvw capabilities to settle and start providing even match ups.

Last week, Anet announced that paid servers would soon be introduced, and so many guilds left for servers they were more confident would be viable in wvw – one of those happened to be kaineng.
Its going to take some time for the new balance to emerge, and thats just a fact.
The harder Kaineng wins, the faster they will ascend the tiers

No we understand the situation perfectly fine thank you. I do not appreciate your Sheldon Cooperque condescension, especially as its unlikely your IQ is 180+.

Its great for Kaineng and the other rapidly improving servers they have had so many excellent new additions to their ranks.

I get that over time the rankings will adjust and that with the cessation of free server transfers the issues will reduce over time.

However due to those announcements about the upcoming changes there has been an unprecedented flux as people scramble as they quite rightly decide the server they are going to spend the rest of their GW2 time in.

This means rankings are particularly inaccurate at the moment and to resolve this in a few days rather than a few weeks it would be beneficial to reduce match times to 24 hours for a few rounds, perhaps until this coming Friday when we could have the weekly reset take us back to normality.

I DO hope that they bring back 24-48 hour matches for a couple of weeks after Monday’s patch. Just to make the new “balancing” of ranks and tiers quicker.

What is even more stupid is just how obnoxiously a server like kaineng is benefiting from all the people transferring to a lower tier server. The obnoxious amount of badges and siege weapons this server is getting on a daily basis is bad. Really, really bad.

Not so bothered about that. I just want to have a reason to fight ad am sure they do too. Badges are pretty rubbish as it is
