Quick Note:
GW2 Spidy is not hacking, they are not doing anything illegal, it’s a fantastic site.

May I use similar method to obtain automated info to use in an out of game notification tool?

As long as it is read only access of information available to the public anyways you surely can ( I realize your post was a try in sarcasm but as the other posters already said spidy even provides the source to use).

It actually wasn’t sarcasm. Spidy is not exactly real time and idk if using such open source info with a diagnostic tool is frown upon (i have too much vested in my account to risk it). Basically it would turn tp flipping/investing into a color by numbers type of activity as the out of game program would do all the number crunching in real time as well.

You probably can’t get the whole market data real time- as you’d have to send too many queries to the server to keep it 100% current.

You wouldn’t need the whole market data if you were specializing in flipping just a few items.

Losing track of cursor + terrible tab targeting

I lose my cursor all the time, like it disappears for a while. I thought it was just my PC so sadly I’m glad others have this issue to so it can be fixed. It only becomes really annoying when using skills that are ground targeted.

I too have a hotkey set for closest target and can then tab for next target however it works poorly at best. Closest only targets the closest target in front of you rather than the closest target in proximity. It will select a yellow moa way off in front of you over a red enemy right behind you. There was another thread I read not too long ago that had a nice flow for how the targeting should work.

The enemy seems to only target me

I find aggro to be odd in this game. There are times when I’m not targeted at all and there are times when enemies will do nothing but follow me ignoring anyone else around. It was obvious when you fought the abomination at the end of the Plinxx chain in CS. Typically 1 person had aggro the whole time and just kited while 50 others DPS’d.

Story mode is also frustrating. You might be in a mission with 5 NPC’s fighting 10 enemies. Most times the enemies will ignore the NPC’s and beeline for you.

I haven’t played my ranger yet enough (lvl 22ish) to have noticed anything different with them. However my necro when using minions seems to often get aggro even though there are 4-5 minions running around. When on my war, I’m glad they aggro me.

I just don’t get what triggers the lock on aggro. But that mechanic allows you to take advantage of the old tank and spank technique too.

My suggestion since many of us have or are in guilds we enjoy, is to just create a common guild so we can reach out to each other if we need additional group members and such. And since we wouldn’t need this guild for influence reasons, people can stay on their current servers. If you wanted, you could even assign “ranks” to geographic areas – Madison, Milwaukee, GB, Northern, etc. so you can keep tabs where people are from.

I thought I read somewhere while the game was in development that some armors could have up to 5 dye channels. I’d have to go back to their blog posts to check. I’ve never seen more than 3 on anything and as you say, many only have 2 or 1. Too bad really, makes them seem less detailed.

Legendary Twilight - 9500g on TP

JK Arrow.7102

I’ve wondered this for a while now…why are items sellable (not account bound) when some of the items used to craft them are account bound?

I’m a little disappointed in this direction as a whole. At release I had hoped that Legendary items were going to show the players that earned them got them by playing through many parts of the game. I would have thought that the parts used to craft the items could not be bought but must be earned. I would have assumed that once crafted, the item would be account bound.

None of my assumptions hold true. There are minimal actual game activities that need to be accomplished in order to get one – 100% map and 500 WvW badges. The rest of the items needed can be bought by gold or with real life money. Playing the TP all day will get you further towards a legendary than leveling up 3-4 alts to 80. The item can then be sold to others when created.

It makes it seem an awful lot less legendary to me…

Gamespy article on loneliness in GW2.

I think one of the barriers to chatter is the combat mechanic itself. Combat is active and requires busy hands on the keyboard and mouse. There isn’t much time to quick throw in some dialogue in the chat box.

It further emphasizes the need for a 3rd party voice chat system. I’ve never been a big fan of using Vent or similar programs for general play and I’m thinking others may feel the same.

But I will echo the general feeling of loneliness in the game. Even with a guild brought over from GW1 with many long time members, it can be lonely at times. Moreso as you explore alone when people are at different stages of their leveling process or story.

Replayable without Grind - The Magic of GW1

JK Arrow.7102

I fall in to the camp that really liked a lot about GW1 and find myself confused on design decisions with GW2. But I think builds are one of the main differences that stand out.

Maybe not everyone enjoyed putting together different builds, experimenting, etc. I thought it was one of the best aspects of the game. I had one of every profession because of the way skill interactions worked. Not only would you have to pick your main profession but you also picked your secondary. These combinations made for huge diversity. These were truely different builds.

It doesn’t feel the same in GW2 when I swap out FGJ for Balanced Stance mid dungeon. I wouldn’t call it a different build, I’m still swinging the same sword over and over.

I also think having a cost to even experiment with builds is a poor decision that only hurts replayability. I understand having to purchase new runes and armor sets, but having to pay to respec seems counterintuitive.

Finally managed to complete this chain and got the achievement. We had to kill the Risen Captain 3 times. We then had to find the merchant in the area that helps start the chain. When we got her up, she proceeded to go in the water and the chain began. You’ll need a group of 5+ for that Risen boss though, he can be a pain due to the adds and close quarters. It helps to pull him out of the basement if possible.

Dear Toymaker Tixx

Greetings Toymaker Tixx! A fine feast has been planned for your arrival in Hoelbrak for this upcoming Wintersday. The grand event should provide fun for all with keg brawls, snowball fights, and much ale to drink.

Bear has blessed me with great fortune and I have much to be greatful for this Wintersday. As such I do not wish upon myself any grand gifts. These three things should suffice:

1. Being a Norn I have been blessed by Bear with an above average physique. However at times this can also be a hinderence. For example when scaling sheer cliffs or jumping from branch to branch in caves, my eyes have a tendency to lose focus and zoom in and out rather rapidly. It causes me great frustration and sometimes I lose my balance and injure myself falling. Please allow my vision to be restored.

2. I have grown to be quite the accomplished hunter through Bear’s blessing. Champion Boars, Mighty Giants, and even an Elder Dragon have all been felled by my great sword. But there seems to be some enemies that are more challenging to face. At times these foes scream out “Invulnerable! Invulnerable!” as they run away. They also seem to have a very powerful healing spell which quickly restores them to full life. I want to learn some additional fighting skills in order to defeat these foes.

3. I have become quite the gamer in recent years. I very much enjoy a good game of RC Golem Chess and I would love to challenge you to a match some time. I also came across this video of a new game that promises to offer it’s players much joy through no grinding or gear treadmills. I do hope it is available this holiday season.

May your journey to Hoelbrak be swift and free of Sons of Jormag and may the spririts of the wild be with you.

For great justice!

My feedback on Legendary crafting

JK Arrow.7102

If you want to replace the cumbersome parts of the process with something….then make it so it actually makes legendaries less frequent than 5% of the total population as ANet claimed they would be. Now tell me what kind of challenge would be able to be completed by only that small fraction of the population…..
GL with that.

I’m picturing a Clock Tower type difficult jump puzzle at the end of challenging PvE dungeon. At the top is a grand arena. Once 25 people make it, a PvP battle royal ensues. Only the survivor gets the item used to make the legendary so it rewards the best of all in game challenges.

I’m joking of course. But it seemed funny in my head at least.

Getting stuck in the map/seeing map art issues?

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

JK Arrow.7102

Yesterday I did a few AC runs. In 2 of them, there were issues with getting stuck within the map. First time I got stuck in the small stairs in the Lover’s room while clearing burrows. In another run I got pushed through the closed door clearing burrows with Hodgins and another party member got stuck in the bookshelves.

I think it has to do with the burrows when they are destroyed. They almost seem to expand and push players outward. Even through terrain or objects.

If it happens again, I’ll try to grab screenshots. Let me know if you need more details.

Q to those asking for more solo-friendly game

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: JK Arrow.7102

JK Arrow.7102

I’ve actually been thinking about this quite a bit. For me, GW2 both encourages soloing and discourages it. And it mostly boils down to the basic design. My only reference is GW1 so I can not compare to how other MMO type games worked and I know GW1 was not a true MMO although that is what makes this interesting.

GW1 was more a co-op RPG. You were able to solo as much of the content as you could. And truely solo if you did not want to bring heroes or NPC’s if your build was made for it. You could vanquish a zone, you could do a mission, you could do a dungeon. For those without a guild or in game friends you could do 95% of the game by yourself. The great thing was, if you had in game friends or a good guild, you could also do any of that content with up to 7 other people.

It was this design of the game that allowed people at differnt points of the storyline or with different goals to do content together. Vanquish titles had measurable progress by zone, everyone had the same list of specific missions to complete. GW2’s design is different.

GW2’s story line is more personalized and branches differently. For people with different charater backgrounds, they have different missions and thus doesn’t encourage grouping. When trying to 100% zones, people may have already started in different spots or finished different hearts. It very much encourages solo activities for much of the exploration. Only at certain DE’s will people congregate but then typically run off in different directions once it’s complete. Sure it’s possible to do this as a group but not everyone can clear the zone in one go and will eventually be at different points.

Dungeons and ( and WvW although I’m mostly addressing PvE here) are the only area’s I see that truely encourage grouping. I think it’s the instancing which allows people to come together for a specific short term goal.

So anyway, that’s my 2 cents. I think part of this contributes to the lonelyness some players feel. While it’s true that there may be people together in an area zerging a DE, I myself don’t consider that group play. So for me, I do most of my exploration alone and utilize guild members to do dungeons. And I’m not sure I like it this way…

Thoughts on Ascended Gear? [Merged threads]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: JK Arrow.7102

JK Arrow.7102

I’m going to post this assuming it will be lost amidst the other 7500+ posts if for no other reason that I felt the need to voice my opinion.

There is no reason to add another layer of gear to the game. We understood the idea that exotics are the highest tier and legendaries are a special skin version of them. This ideal alone means most other tiers of items are basically worthless. With the addition of ascended gear it just makes the previous top tier of exotic equally as worthless. Masterwork gear is sold for between merch value and something below crafting value. Rares are sold for a value that varies with the cost of ectos. Exotics will most likely now follow suite.

I don’t even have an exotic set for any of my characters so it doesn’t affect me directly. But it does change the way the community views gear and therefore indirectly affects me. Sure the stats may be only slightly better, but in games like this there is the best gear and there is everything else. If you don’t think it will matter, look back to prior games and see how many times more items with max stats sell for than items with max -1 stats.

I’m growing increasingly frustrated playing this game. I’ve put about 350 playing hours in thus far which is a far cry from the 5000 or so I put in to GW1. Rather than enjoying the playing experience, I find myself upset about numerous things: the terrible camera bounce and zoom, appearance of unequal collision boxes, the leashing and invulnerable enemies, the chain knockdowns, nonstop spawning adds, in and out of combat movement differences, loneliness of the zones, bugging dungeons and DE’s, underwater combat, the inaccuracy that all zones are end game, and I could go on but nobody really cares.

In the end I’m hoping that I once again find the joy in playing the game like I did in the first Guild Wars. In that I know I’m not alone. But from the sounds of all the complaints so far, Anet has more immediate issues by opening this can of worms and having to deal with this kitten storm.

I would call it underwhelming. Sure there are a few sets for specific races/sexes that look pretty nice but I found exactly one set of late game armor for my male norn warrior that didn’t make him look like he would fall over from being top heavy. It’s the shoulder’s and arms mostly that look out of place. I know he is a big oaf but he doesn’t have to look ridiculous.

Iron Marches – Lake Carnifex – Sharky is missing but the Golem is there.
Metrica Province – Loch Jetz – Utcua was dead the other day and missing today.

I’m sure it has been suggested before but as a workaround until the root cause of all the bugged skill points is discovered and fixed, can’t some code be introduced which checks the status of the NPC on the server every 30 mins – 1 hour? If they are dead or missing, they are respawned. If they are there and working fine, no change?
