Only 9 pages after merging topic ? Come on people, we can do better than that !

I can still see one or two courageous players trying to read the forum back there. Let’s merge 10 more topics like that, and it will be so unreadable that people might prefer to leave the game silently rather than trying to express themselves.
That way, everyone is happy. Anet maintains appearances, angry players don’t play anymore, and the ones that stay will endure seeing the game they put so much faith in slowly becoming another random-MMO.

Oh, in case some of you forgot what you were supposed to have bought, I think it’s a good thing to refresh your memory :

And for the “feedback” part, let’s wait until we actually try the Lost shores. To be honest, I didn’t refer any friends for trial, because I’m afraid that it’s gonna be as bugged as the halloween update was. And truth be told, if one day I want to see some of my friends on GW2, I’d rather not let them see things like that.

See what I did there?

You took my silly example and tried to make it even sillier ?

More seriously, it was just a way of showing how you can inform people on upcoming changes, without necessarily inducing a sudden market speculation. Anyway, I guess whatever changes will come, there always will be mass speculation… So I will concede that you and Ari Kagura are both right on the matter. It’s difficult to inform people, and expect them not to overreact.

Nevertheless, I just wanted to explain that players like to have constant info about upcoming changes. Giving the impression that Anet know about current issues, and are able to prioritize them. Surely, stuff about up and nerf is not the most relevant thing in this matter. But maybe about current troubles that we meet everyday in game. Bugged event for instance ?
About that, I was pretty surprised that people already knew a week ago that the exploit allowing mesmer to port people through Ara’s gate would be fixed, but didn’t have a clue about the event in itself, and whether any fix would be done about that.

I have to admit, this issue is quite delicate, and I know it’s not easy to come up with a solution that will satisfy everyone.

Then isn’t it possible to leave out of the patch note the thing that risk to impact economy, and meanwhile keep players up to date with changes that are gonna take place in their profession ?
Let’s take a silly example. I want to do some condition damage build on my Thief. I stuff him, spend my gold to buy/craft equipment. And all of a sudden : Huge nerf on condition damages in the patch note (like I said, silly example). My stuff is useless, I spend my money for nothing.

Getting information about that would not have impact economy, but at least I wouldn’t have spent that money for nothing.

You’re not concerned about the direction the game is heading, you just want some attention like the rest of you whiners.

Stop making these kind of posts and play for Christ’s sake, I’m pretty sure you and everyone else will enjoy new content.

Truth be told, we indeed need to attract Anet attention. But not about new content, or stuff that’s not even released.

Yeah I’m talking about the current state of the game. With events still bugged, 2 months and a half after release. Next patch note is supposedly five pages long ? That’s cool. Because just by gathering all bugs from the profession subsection, I bet we can reach 10 pages, easy.

So you’re right. Maybe new content will be awesome. But I don’t give a poop about that, because I don’t need new content to enjoy the game. I – NEED – BUGS – CORRECTION. Is that too much to ask ? Being able to play necromancer without giving health to enemies when I use the traits for leech ? Having a real 5 sec cooldown on weapon swap with warrior ? I can go on all day long, but my goal is not to make the list by myself.

So, yeah. Less ranting about upcoming patch, more whining about current bugs.

Ascended items will have the same stats as exotic. The difference will be an additional slot, which will force players to buy Fine Transmutation stone to keep their current skin/stats and get the new slots.
This way, Anet doesn’t change anything to the gear situation, and at the same time they force players to buy from their shop if they want to keep up with this new feature. We’re gonna probably see new gems/runes, or special upgrade component that goes into that slot.

Mark my words.

@Agemnon : Your legendary weapon is just a skin. A skin is never gonna be outdated. If you crafted it for the stats only… well… herm.

@SteepledHat : This is not WoW, this is just like another MMO. The endless cycle of lif… hu, I mean, of gearing. And if you played any other RPG in your life, you know that there always is something “better” to chase. After all, that’s the point.

Losing track of cursor + terrible tab targeting

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

That’s why I have two keys for targeting. One for closest target, and one for next target in cycle. This way I can swap between targets when it’s not too crazy, and still target the nearest threat if the fight becomes unreadable.

About the cursor…. I lose it all the time too T_T
Most of the time, I hold down right click to move my camera around, and turn my character since I use left and right to strafe. But the trouble is, cursor is small and discrete, and I often lose track of it.

I would love to be able to change cursor shape/size/colour.

Gates still bug after so long ? Seriously, that’s a shame.

In fact, what is incredible is that the “events” concept is one of the key features of GW2, it was one of the thing that was used by Anet to make advertisement. And now, two months and a half after release, there are still bugged events.

Is it gonna be like for each updates ? Every time you create something, even if it’s an incredible idea, every time it’s gonna be bugged ? Should we expect the same when a major expansion comes out ? Three months of bugged events ?

If you ask me, Caudescus Manor is the worst dungeon of GW2.

There are times when <insert foulest word you know here> trash mobs literally destroy you, and then when you get to the boss, you kill him without any effort. Moreover, the first boss of path 3 is harder to kill than the final boss ! Clear disappointment to me.
So, the majority of the dungeon is completely unbalanced compared to other dungeons. Even in Sorrow’s Embrace, which has dredge (!!), the trash mobs are not even remotely as annoying as for CM.

Anyway, bottom line is : CM is completely unbalanced, no interesting boss fight, always the same path/boss, you’ll enjoy other dungeons much more.

I actually had the same issue as you, no longer than yesterday. The few times I did that puzzle, I had no problem at all, and went through that part without any problem. Then all of a sudden, I can’t manage to handle that part !
And that day, for the very first time, I discovered something I had never seen before :

There actually is a stalagmite (you know, a rocky formation that starts on the ground and progressively grow up, creating a pillar of stone) a little on the center left, at the very end of the tunnel where you slide down.

Each time I would die, I did not understood why, since my character just instantly died and fell in the pool beneath. I thought that if I had hit an obstacle, I would be stuck to it. But game doesn’t work like that.

So, next time you try it, start well at the center, let you character slides down, and when you’re halfway through, start going on the right to avoid that deathly trap waiting for you. Once you’re down there, try to get a look and you’ll probably notice the thing for the first time, as I did yesterday. ^^

Good luck to you !

If that’s the topic of this post then even the OP isn’t on topic. We are both encouraged to give our opinion.

There is a difference between giving your opinion and making assumptions/prejudices about what other people are saying, or dragging irrelevant remarks on the subject (that thing about family ? Not even closely related. (haha, pun unintended)).

Last posts are really focusing too much on the moral aspect of belonging to a guild, and extreme behaviours that we can come across in-game, rather than the realistic, practical, aspect of leading a guild, organizing events, and making everyone participate in something shared, something common.

Maybe there are guild leaders with god complex who just like to rule over people. Maybe there are members that are no more than freeloaders who are just here to take advantage of what other people put time and effort to create.

But seriously : stop with the clichés. Try to stay on topic, which is how multi guild system may prevent players from creating a strong, united group, and what can we do, with in-game but also external tools, to encourage the feeling that you belong in the guild you are with (and I’ve read pretty awesome suggestion on this thread, so it would be nice to pursue efforts in this way).

The multi-guild system & why guilds are pointless.

So here are my conclusions :

1/ We need time. Time for people who are not familiar with guild mechanics to learn them, and time for people who have nothing to do here to leave and go play another game. People who don’t even know that you can bring up the roster of your guild to check the ranks and see the name of your leaders probably are people that don’t make use of 10% of what the game has to offer to them. And frankly, not having those people in your guild is more of a good thing that not. In time, the ones eager to learn will find a guild such as yours when they’re done with the rest of the game, and their need for a community will grow stronger.

2/ We need to adapt. In every other MMORPG, there is a raid system that forces players to find a dedicated group, and stick to it if they want to see the end-game content. Not here. Even in WvW, you can do without a guild. That means that it is the role of the guild leaders to make their members understand the point of belonging to a community. And those who don’t ? Well the “factories guilds”, as I called them, are there for them. Because being in a 300+ members guild is just a way to have a /map chat that goes beyond the map you’re on, and nothing else (xp buff ? karma buff ? Please. In 2 months, that’s gonna be totally useless).

3/ We need some new tools, but we can do without them. Proof is all the people here that explained how they recruit, how they try to organize things so that their members know why they’re here. And to be honest, the perks that come from belonging to a guild are just perks. The lamba player understands that guilds need him more than he needs one, and he is right about that. Thus, the importance of making a difference (see point above).

I’m going to conclude that, in my opinion, there is too much of the “facebook mentality” in GW2 right now. Maybe this is because of the mechanics, maybe this is due to the way players think and behave, maybe this is because that’s how Anet see their game. A massive player-meat-grinding machine (Like any other MMO ? I don’t know, maybe).
Still, game is two months old, so I’m not too sure that the current state of the game is a good indicator of how things are gonna be in another two months. But I do hope that threads such as yours are gonna make things move in the right direction.

So ! After some reading, here is my thought on the subject.

First of all, Mkalafut, I feel you. I understand how you must feel, being a guild leader for so long and having to deal with such behaviors. Nonetheless, I must say that there are many reasons why I’m not surprised by the situation, the very first being that people are not used to the guild system yet, members and guild leaders included.

I guess that, like WoW in its time, GW2 is an appealing game for everyone, and thus lots of players don’t know how such games work. Most of them haven’t already played a MMORPG before. For example, the issue of people not knowing their guild leader, is something that can be summed up as players not knowing that they can bring up the guild interface and check the ranks to see who their boss is. But this is not necessarily a lack of knowledge, but also a lack of wanting to know. They take what they need (or think they need) and leave the rest.
GW2 mechanics tend to make a lot of social tools no more than an option. Creating a party, being in a guild, crafting, exploring… every last one of the in-game features are completely optional. Thus, people tend to treat guilds that way, and frankly, guilds tend to behave that way. When you see people advertising for their guild on the /map channel, and using the “We have 300+ members, that’s awesome, join us !” argument, you know that something is seriously wrong. How can a “faceless horde” can be of any help to players trying to find a community to play with, or people to create a bond with ? In my opinion, this is just a habit that comes from social tools such as facebook and twitter, where you are “friend” with people you don’t even know, or you join circles just because you received an invite even though you have no idea what you’re doing here. The same goes for GW2. People think that just because you join multiple groups, you’re suddenly gonna make many friends, play with a lot of people, or participate in community events.
But don’t get me wrong here : this does happen ! Only, it only happens for 10 peoples out of 100. So, what about the others 90 ? Well, this portion represents the players that are gonna stop the game anyway, the players that are not fit for the game but still play it and rant all the time, or the players that don’t have the required mindset to be part of a community. And those people have just nothing to do in any guilds that has the pretense to accomplish things as a group.

I think the situation we are in is just a phase. The game is new, and a considerable part of the community is not used to play MMORPG, or they are not used to such freedom of choice. In any other game, you choose ONE guild, and you have to stick to it, or leave it. In GW2, like a dog in a sausage shop, most of the players don’t even know where to focus. It’s not that they are stupid, or uneducated (well, maybe some of them are, but not the majority). It’s just that when you give them multiple choices, you devaluate the importance of a guild, and its usefulness for people (which, after all, is your point here, and I agree about that).

My post is really too long, I have to cut it in half, sorry for the inconvenience. Conclusions in next post !

Its a typo of the website. As you can see from the actual jewelry created, the primary stat is Toughness.

As you can see, if you take the time to click the links I provided, the primary/secondary stats are not the same one for the trinkets and for the jewel.

I would gladly have provided a screen capture from my Jewelcrafting panel, but the tooltip does not appear when I take a screenshot
And as I said, every other jewel in game has the same stats as its jewel, except for this one, which is weird.

Anyway, I’ll try to submit a report in game, and keep an eye on this thread if anybody from Anet gives an answer.

Exquisite Emerald Jewel, primary/secondary stats issue ?

in Crafting

Posted by: Johnson.3874

Johnson.3874

Hello there,

First of all, I did a quick search to check if anyone already addressed this issue. I found only one post vaguely related, but since the issue wasn’t explicitly pointed out, I figured I better create a dedicated thread about that.

So, let’s get on the subject : I think there’s an issue on how the stats are considered primary/secondary on the Emerald jewel. This jewel is supposed to fit into the “Knight” category, which has “Power/precision/toughness” on it. Power and precision are secondary, and toughness is primary.

It appears that on the exquisite emerald jewel, and only on that upgrade components, the primary/secondary repartition is messed up. As you can see on the link below, this jewel has Precision as the primary stats, and power/toughness as secondaries. I thought that normally it would be toughness as primary, and the rest secondary.

http://www.gw2db.com/items/20922-exquisite-emerald-jewel-s

This jewel is used in order to craft the following trinkets (see links), and all of them have the correct primary/secondary stats on them.

http://www.gw2db.com/recipes/8111-emerald-orichalcum-amulet
http://www.gw2db.com/recipes/8153-emerald-orichalcum-earring
http://www.gw2db.com/recipes/8195-emerald-orichalcum-ring

Here comes the question all of you have already guessed : Is this supposed to be like that ? Isn’t there a confusion on the jewel about which stat is primary (supposedly toughness and not precision) ?
Or maybe this is intended ?

If it’s intended, then why do other jewels follow the same repartition as the trinket they go with ?

examples :
Beryl : http://www.gw2db.com/items/26447-exquisite-beryl-jewel-s
http://www.gw2db.com/recipes/8154-beryl-orichalcum-earring

Sapphire : http://www.gw2db.com/items/20924-exquisite-sapphire-jewel-s
http://www.gw2db.com/recipes/8149-sapphire-orichalcum-earring

Many thanks in advance for any clues about that, or a clear answer from Anet.
Regards.

edit : After doing some more search, it seems that it’s the emerald stone in itself that doesn’t respect the same order as the trinkets it is used for. All emeralds (shard, crystal and orb) have the same “Precision (primary)/ Power (secondary) /Toughness (secondary)” repartition. But since it could be a mistake from Anet, my question still holds ^^

so thieves...

in WvW

Posted by: Johnson.3874

Johnson.3874

@Opc : Ok, thanks for the explanation. As a side note, few minutes after I posted, I actually found that some changes were not in the patch note, and as a matter of fact, there was something about stacking stealth ^^

“Stealth now only stacks up to five times consecutively, meaning you can’t bombard yourself with massive stealth applications to become invisible for extended periods of time.”
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/thief/The-Undocumented-Nerf/540643

It seems that it was a common thing for Anet to stack up stealth more than 5 times. I do not often come across thieves that can do that (I guess it requires at least 3 thieves working together to do so, because as you said, there are not many skills that allow to do so), but they do. Time will tell us if it was a good way to change things, or not. I would have prefer a less “hidden cap” mechanism to do that.

About the perma stealth, I must say I only say “perma” as a figure of speech. It’s more of a way to put an emphasis on “long stealth” opposed to “short, multiple, stealth”. I think the latter is a more interesting way to play rather than the foremost. Attacking someone and trying to stay invisible all the time seems less interesting for me than having an “open” fight and using the stealth ability as a way to confuse your opponent. I find it to be more satisfactory gameplay wise, but it’s just my way of seeing things, as I prefer a good fight that last a bit, rather than a 3-shots action easy win/failed attempt (depending if it goes well or not).

Still on this subject, I agree with what you said, except that I’m not really in favor of such a playstyle that consists only in picking a weak target, killing it and fleeing, in some lone-wolf kind of way. I prefer to be more supportive of my group, helping them finish some target with a little burst here and then, but staying with my team mates throughout the fight rather than leaving once I get my kill. I find it to be a less selfish and more rewarding way of playing. But I recognize it’s part of how a thief has to play sometimes (especially if you don’t have a group to play with), and I don’t mind if people want to play that way.

Kalemar
I agree. Having stealth only work out of combat will fix many of the issues that thieves have.

Sorry but I think this is a rather short-sighted way of fixing the problem. I like the fact that thieves can use their stealth in combat. Plus, it’s not like they have a button to activate stealth whenever they want. They have to use a stealth related skill in order to do so. Simply preventing them from going into stealth while in combat would pull off an important part of how the thief class is played. It would be sad to get to this point without having found any other viable solution.

I think there are things less “class core related” (aka, that are not inherent to a class, and can thus be modified without hurting to much the playstyle of a profession) that could be modified to get us to a more balanced ground.
- Firstly, I don’t understand why you can stomp somebody and remained stealth. This should be considered as an attack, and thus should remove stealth from you. – Secondly, I don’t really like the quickness mechanism, and I would prefer it to be removed from the game (which wouldn’t disrupt to much the way people play, I think), but I can settle from something like “quickness doesn’t work when stomping someone”. I think the downed state mechanism is rather interesting, and for (almost) every class, once you’re downed you have one chance to prevent an immediate stomp. But quickness kills that only chance. I find it a bit unbalanced.
But well, sorry about that remark on quickness. It’s been about a month that everyone says this needs to be fixed rather than fixing other stuff that work a bit to well with quickness, but it seems to be a sacred ground for the devs. So, I guess until they see the light, there is no use addressing this issue anymore…

Now, small question : I need a confirmation about something I noticed while playing my thief. The stealth boons get stacked, right ? Like, if you stealth, and for example you use two other stealth skills, duration will stack and will keep you stealth for the duration of all your skills, right ? If that’s the case, wouldn’t some kind of diminishing return be interesting, to prevent perma stealth, and force the thief to use his stealth skills over a longer time ?

I’ve tried to give some thoughts about your formula, and I’m wondering in which case it can be applied.
For example, I thought about using it for my warrior (shout specs), but since I’m quite limited with the stuff I can use (nothing except Power/Toughness/Healing Power, otherwise it’s not interesting to go for that build), I was wondering if there were situations where your formula can be used, and other cases where it’s not worth it ?

Or am I just lazy here, because it’s quite a challenge at this time of the night to calculate how much healing I’m gonna receive during a fight before dying
Anyhow, I have this feeling that your formula must be more useful for some builds than others, but I’m not sure which ones.

I mean, somebody playing glasscanon is not gonna wonder how much toughness compared to vitality he has to put on his gear. Nor someone like me going for +healing. Or am I missing a point somewhere ?

In any case, thanks for the thread, it’s quite interesting

Are you saying without itemizing or traiting for health a thief will only have 1545 health? That doesn’t seem correct.

I think he meant base health without taking in account the “base” vitality of your character. So, if a thief had 0 vitality, he would indeed have 1545 HP. Fortunately, when you play your thief, even without his equipment, you have to add his vitality to get his “real” health.

Or at least that’s how I understand it ^^

So, after I posted, for an entire week things went perfectly. Every time I tried to log in, I was sent an email to confirm my authentication. Even if I logged only once, or thirteen times a day, I was prompted to confirm my IP.

And today, all of a sudden, no confirmation is required. I can log in to the forum, or the game, without having to confirm anything. That’s quite weird I must say, since my IP keeps on changing everyday, and I’ve never checked the box to remember my location. Any clues about that ?

Is the Nightmare Court truly evil?

in Sylvari

Posted by: Johnson.3874

Johnson.3874

So I apparently posted this before reading their write up on the official GW2 wiki. Here’s a snippet that somehow corroborates what I’m talking about.

“The primary goal of the Nightmare Court is to corrupt the Pale Tree herself, bringing her around to their twisted ideals so that the sylvari may be freed from the shackles of Ventari’s Tablet and replace this philosophy of a centaur and a human by one which is uniquely sylvari.

First of all, I would like to say that, in a way, I agree with you. The pale tree is like a superior entity that “dictates” other sylvaris what is right and wrong. In a way, I understand it’s indeed possible to perceive the Nightmare Court as some kind of liberators, freedom fighters. But, there are several important elements that go against that.

First is pure logic. Sylvaris can turn to the nightmare court, but not come back. So, with the pale tree, they still have the choice of right and wrong, whereas with the court, they don’t. That’s a first clue to the fact that the court is indeed evil.

Second, from your quote, we can deduce the “open mindness” of the Pale Tree. They are capable of acknowledging the progress of other species, and make a positive use of this progress for themselves. Other races showed them that it’s possible to live peacefully with one another, and they apply these teachings to themselves. Thus, it shows us the universality of their knowledge and wisdom.

Third and last : Sorry Anet, but on this one you didn’t try to be subtle at all. I must say that we’re almost at a Godwin point on this one. I mean, let me quote that again :
… and replace this philosophy of a centaur and a human by one which is uniquely sylvari.

You couldn’t be so obvious. I mean, purity of the race, does it ring any bell for you ? In that case, the nightmare court is the exact opposite of the pale’s tree wisdom. They are in favor of narrow-minded point of view, xenophobic and definitely racist. They could have made the Nightmare Court’s boss with a bad temper and a little mustache, everybody would have guessed his name. Let’s just say that on this one, Anet tried to be as obvious as they could.

So, sorry to disappoint you, but I don’t think there is anything to save there. The Nightmare Court is obviously full of bad, brainwashed & coerced people, and between them and the Pale Tree, if one must be compared to North Korea, it would be the Nightmare, definitely. Simple fact that once they are turned they cannot go back is proof enough.

Bottom line is GW2, by design, has far fewer options and much shallower classes than other games. It was done for accessibility and I get that but don’t pretend that addition by subtraction is good. It’s good for people who are new I guess, but it gets very old very quickly to others.

That’s weird because I remember certain type of MMO where, basically, you can run or jump around as much as you like, the mob will always be on your heels, and always face toward you, no matter what you can do. In such combats, I don’t see how staying in one place and spam your cycles of skills seems more interesting than having a real dodge mechanism, and different sets of weapon that allows to go from one playstyle to another.

Needless to say that the “shallower” indeed seems a bit shallow to me, when in the “holy trinity” your class is confined into one role, that cannot be changed except by creating an alt. And what’s even weirder is that a certain famous MMO, for which an addon was released recently, included “class specialization”, that forces the player to choose certain skills when he levels up, that cannot be changed later on, thus forcing people to choose a way they play their character without any way to change it back. Here, you change your traits (not necessarily unlearning them), you change your equipment, you change your weapons and… tadaaaa, brand new role in a group, or way to play solo!

But well, that’s an example among others I guess. Anyway, PvE will always be “shallow” and “limited”, mostly because of AI restriction, and particularly when you do a dungeon for the 17th time because you want the tokens. I find that PvP has a lot of potential, mostly because not every class has shown what they are capable of.

And if there’s nothing more for you to discover, because you’ve played your characters every possible way you wanted to play them… well… see ya on the next addon maybe ?

You can get to the elemental once you’ve done the puzzle, if I remember right. When you get to the chest, to leave the area you can just go forward and you end up being there.

The entrance to this puzzle is absolutely insane btw. I felt like there was something around, spent and hour looking for it. Closest I was, in the water, in some sort of “ruined” house. The entrance was just next to it, I focused to much on the inside of the house. So frustrating.

Removing 2/3 of the equation that were constants and turning them into variables actually made the equation more complicated, yes.

Sorry mate, but she’s not “extremely” thick at all. At the very least she can be regarded as sturdy. And considering the Norn life style, I would prefer her to be sturdier, rather than looking like a giant toothpick.

But hey, we’re getting on the territory of personal tastes and wishes here. That’s completely normal that not everyone share the same idea on how thick a Norn must be. For me, I would just say that I would gladly welcome more customization options.

I disagree, i like the norn as they are..

Now the Sylvari are amazingly ugly

Despite my title saying that they are “too” pretty, it’s not really about liking or not liking how they look. Who wouldn’t love something good-looking ? Except Birgitte Silverbow of course, but that’s another matter.
It’s more about having the opportunity to make them look “less”. Less models, more… Norn.

Btw, background question here : How old is supposed to be our character ? I guess quite young ? I mean, somewhere between 18 and 25 ?
It would be strange to ask for face lines, for example, if our character is supposed to be a young adult ^^

I kinda feel bad about it, but my problem is the exact opposite of what most people ask for on this thread.
I have the email authentication activated, and I make sure I don’t check the box to remember my IP. Maybe it sounds stupid, but I like the fact that a confirmation is requested every time I try to log in.

My issue is that I don’t have to confirm every time I try to log in. Some days, I will open and close the game several time, and each and every one of them, I have to confirm my IP. Good. But, some other days, I don’t even have to confirm anything, despite not checking any box, and despite changing my IP address. Bad.

So, question is : why ? Am I causing some serious overload because every time Anet has to send me a mail ? Of course that’s not it, but it feels weird for me that sometimes my security looks good (If Anet asks me to confirm my IP, I feel safe), but other times it looks like anybody could login into my account without me knowing it.

So, once again, I feel a bit bad to ask for something that everyone in this thread think is annoying, but well, I feel safer this way. Maybe I should add that I’m not necessarily on a dynamic IP. If I turn off my router for several hours, most of the time, my IP is changed to a new one. But when I leave it on, I always have the same IP.

Thanks for any answer on that.

edit : for example, right now, when I log in, no confirmation is required. I don’t really like that.

Not to mention there’s at least one face with actual scars, and many of the tattoos show on the face as well.

True, one face has scars. But the face in itself, it structure, stays almost perfect. Great eyes, straight nose, nice lips… to sum up, no real flaws. That’s disappointing, especially when you see how ugly an Asura can be, without any real effort !

Here is a link to the available faces.

Greetings here,

So, here is my statement : Norn female are far too pretty. They look like models. And I’m not only talking about their real hot body (Did you take a look at those boobies ? Gosh, with the Tier 1 cultural chestpiece, when I see a norn female running, it’s like time has stopped… seeing those poor constricted melons yelling “free me ! It’s so tight in here !” always bring a tear to my eyes), but mostly about their faces. Those are only cute dolls faces.

I really like the fact that as a Male Norn, you can create a character with an ugly broken face. Afterall, you may want to have such a background for your avatar. And well, war doesn’t leave its soldiers unscathed.
But for the Norn Females… well, only pretty faces on top of a smoking hot body, without a scar, without a flaw.

I mean, come on, all Norn are warriors – even females – and fighting, and brawling, is part of their culture. It’s just too bad that all those girl have such perfect faces.

On a side-note, and because I don’t want to create a similar thread in the human section, it’s the same for male human. All of them just look like little cherubin, and even when you put a beard on them, they still look like they are 16 years old (with a fake beard, that’s the worst). I know it’s important to have good looking characters, so players are satisfied with their look in-game. But I’m disappointed with the lack of true warrior like faces.

I hope some new models will get implemented along with the future cosmetics items. Please Anet, when you’re done with the most urgent work, try to have a thought about that.

What about asking the often silent majority?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Johnson.3874

Johnson.3874

The “silent majority” is a recent political concept that is used by the medias and politicians in order to justify their action against the “not silent” majority.
It’s just a rhetorical way of saying that you don’t give a s*** about the people who expressed themselves, and you prefer to think that you are the one who possess the right solution to the current issue, justifying that by saying “well, not everybody has said what they have to say, hence there’s a probability that people think like me”. (edit : Which can be true, I have to admit. But it’s a probability, not a fact, and must be treated likewise).

But in truth, that’s an even more stupid concept that it seems, because you cannot be part of a “majority” if you have not stated your opinion. A silent majority has as much sense as “what the dead might think”, or “let’s just give as much credit to what a child says as an adult, because after all, a child is someone who is gonna be an adult one day”. In a word, it’s totally absurd.
A majority is something that results from comparing different expressed opinions. Not when you compare people who gave their point of view with people who didn’t give their opinion. So basically, when you have to make choices to satisfy people’s need, it might be better to listen to the one who said what they wish for, rather than trying to guess the wishes of people who didn’t say anything.

tl;dr : Maybe you’re right, maybe you’re not, but don’t talk about nonsense like “silent majority” just because you hear it on TV all the time. It simply doesn’t make sense.

Agreeing with OP here.

The sound they added is like a bad MIDI, playing over and over whatever the situation is. Sometimes I would just run down a hill and it would make the same sound as if I were jumping repeatedly in one place.
As someone said, I love the fact that we are covered with a real plate-looking armor (except for the “nipples showing” Norn cultural armor, what the hell is wrong with these people), but that sound is just so cheap it makes me want to cry.

Here I thought I used orichalcum to craft my armor, when it fact it was some cheap metal coming from a frying pan.

Johnson.3874

Some remarks on OP’s complaint :

1/ I play as a warrior myself, more in a support way (but not very good stuff, only 3k toughness and 22k Hp), and I’m sick and tired of seeing those warriors hanging around in the bus with their greatsword on the shoulder, waiting for a good opportunity to land a quickness+bull rush+HB combos. So yeah, I feel you.

2/ Still, not choosing a stun break ability is a bad idea, because even if you’re not against a warrior, having such skills ready among your utilities skills is mandatory. It’s always useful, and a lifesaver.
That being said, even with a stun breaker equipped, against a warrior using quickness, taking in account the latency from server, you simply don’t have enough time to activate your stun break and roll away from HB. Or if you do, you’re so low on health that it’s a matter of seconds before getting downed by someone else around.

Because let’s face it, in a WvW situation, it’s very rare to be 1v1 against such warriors. They know they’re made of glass, and so they always hang around other players in case things turn bad. When I meet a GS warrior alone, most of the time I kick his a**, but I scarcely had such an opportunity.

3/ In the end, eventhough I’m bored by such template, I’m not so sure “nerfing” is the only way. It would be better to change something about the way those skills works together, rather than just nerfing each skills and render them useless.

edit : Swear words being replaced by “kitten”… now I understand why this word comes up in so many people’s post. Hell, I was thinking it was some weird trend again.

is this a mmo?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Johnson.3874

Of course it’s not a MMO. That’s only a commercial argument in order to lure out people playing WoW.
My impression is that it’s a solo game with a multiplayer dimension. You play solo most of the time, and you can do like 75% of the game without anybody. From time to time you come across players, but they might as well be NPC the way they behave. Then, once you’re done with the solo part of the game, like any other game, you play the multiplayer part of the game. You go to BG, dungeons and such. And that’s the only places where it matters if there are players or not.

So like I said, it’s not a MMO. It’s a solo game, with a multiplayer part integrated, which allows you to enhance the lifespan of the game. That’s all.

Now that it is said, yes, the vendor is indeed the weaponsmith in Lion’s Arch. I found it strange since all of his “buddies” sells it for silver/copper. (And I feel a bit ashamed since I buy stuff from her all the time, but never noticed that she sells stuff for karma).

So it’s not a bug, thanks a lot for the answer ^^

Greetings everyone,

So here is my question. There is a certain vendor in Lion’s Arch, I won’t say which one in case this really is a bug, that sells Kits & Tools for Karma instead of the regular currency. All other vendors who sell the same type of materials have their prices set in silver/copper, but this one is the only one to have prices in karma.

So I don’t know if it’s a bug or not. I’ve sent a report, but I didn’t get any answer, nor have I read anything about it on the forums or somewhere else to confirm or deny it. I would only say that since it’s easier to get 1300 Karma than 15s to buy a Master’s Salvage kit, I can only suppose that it’s not intended.

If it’s not a bug, please tell me quickly so I can spend all my karma on this vendor
Thanks!

No listing fee if your selling price match an order ?

in Black Lion Trading Co

Johnson.3874

I like the idea but you can’t eliminate the listing fee. It’s incentive to not “race to floor” by pulling your item off the TP and reposting. And that would be exploitive for those sellers with large volumes of product.

Maybe I should have been more precise, but I suggested that you don’t pay a listing fee if you “sell directly” (=Match the price of highest buyer), and you pay one if you decide to sell at a higher price.

But like you said, an important factor is the fact that with the hidden taxes, we don’t know for sure how much we will earn in the end. So I guess that my suggestion cannot work alone, and we need more transparency in the exchanges to get a good view of how much money we’re gonna make.

I was looking for something that would stabilize prices, and reward player that put an “honest” price for order. But I guess this is working backward, and it’s the sellers that are rewarded for selling their stuff at the price buyer ask for, which could lead prices even more downward.

But hey, that’s the point of this topic, have so new angles to think on

edit : Following your idea, maybe we should make the buyer pay some charges to his offer, as to not have ridiculous orders and more incentive to bid fairly.

No listing fee if your selling price match an order ?

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Johnson.3874

Johnson.3874

Well good question. I felt that I had to give an example of how people use this option to set their own prices, without using it directly. To be a bit more clear, I mean that rather than using the option directly, people only use it as some kind of referent, which somehow divert the usefulness of this option.

This example came to my mind after I read another topic where people were explaining how they set their prices, and how that negatively impact the economy. As you say yourself, just matching the lowest seller may be sufficient enough to sell your item, but I guess that sometimes people feel that they have to put it a little cheaper for it to sell fast. Thus, slowly dropping the price of the item under it’s real value.
Hence my suggestion : people try to sell their stuff as fast as possible, but in a way it has a negative influence on the economy. So I was looking for possible way to counter this phenomenon, and came up with the “free listing fees”.

But as I said, I’m sure I don’t perceive all the facts, that’s why I want a debate on the subject

No listing fee if your selling price match an order ?

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Johnson.3874

Johnson.3874

Greetings everyone.

Before submitting this to the suggestion forum, I wanted first to have a little topic to debate the question, see if it was worth it or not.

So here is what I thought about : Most of the time, it’s quite difficult to have a clear idea of the gold you’re gonna make when selling items to the trading post, due to the 10% hidden tax and the listing fees.
Moreover, I think that the “order” option is good, but right now its usefulness only extend to getting an idea of the price of a component before setting your own price. It’s like “Oh, so you’re asking for X copper for this item ? And the lowest seller is demanding X+10 copper ? Then I’ll put it at X+5 copper.”

This give me the impression that this order item option is underused, and you can’t know for sure if the price you set is a good one or not.
So, I thought that maybe, if you match your price with an order, you should be exempted of the listing fees. I think this would make the order option more interesting, for both buyers and sellers. Plus, it seems logical since you don’t really “list” your item, but rather sell them directly to a buyer.

I think that with this I’ve only covered a small part of the reasoning. Do you think there could be side effects to that ? Like opposite effect, with people only using the “match highest buyer” option, and thus greatly reducing the price of components. Or do you think it would be a good idea, and would encourage the offer to meet the demand, thus getting the items closest to their real price ?

Please discuss, good mood and constructive criticism strongly encouraged.

Lots of good suggestion here. But, and there’s a but, here is the thing :

How do you intend to put some strategy in a boss fight, when all the players are just brainless nukers who attack everything they can ?

I mean seriously, I was told that the centaur boss in Harathi Highlands gave much better rewards if you didn’t touch him during the first phase. All right. So you have 10 people for like 15 minutes who spam on the chat “Don’t attack him at the beginning, let him do his summoning stuff”. All right !
But when the boss appeared….. every last of the brainless zombies that are called “players” just spammed the hell outta him. And this happens every time. And so even though I’ve done this event countless times, I still don’t know if this boss gives better rewards when you don’t kill his summons in first phase.

So, my question : How do you intend for players to notice any amount of “strategy” at all, when there’s not 10% of them that know of the word “strategy”, and that read the chat ?
