To survive as a thief, you must first master dodging. I suggest you look for ettins or bears as they have slow windups on their attacks that make it easy to dodge.

When fighting with daggers, try to take on only one enemy at a time. Practice rotations on them, how to kill them quickly (tip: Cloak and Dagger -> Backstab -> autoattack -> repeat). As you become more experienced you’ll be able to take on groups alone with just daggers.

This video guide by Nike of DnT should help you. When he talks about traits though, divide the trait points by 5 if you have difficulty understanding.

Oh, now I remember. I used to run Pyroatheist’s Immortal build in dungeons. Them 2k staff phantasm hits were so stronk, I nearly crapped myself. I was such a bad mesmer, camping GS and Staff, and the worst thing is I never met anyone who told me I was bad, so I continued going down the slippery slope…. until one day I made a switch to full berserker gear and peed my pants at 5k hits. Woooow.

Not an uninformed post per se, but since we all know what happens to threads regularly in this place…

Also, you need to learn more, as staff eles we are great at stopping crowds dead in their tracks and dealing extreme collective damage to them. If you’re just going to sit in fire all the time, then you deserve to be called a terribad, especially since you’re meant to repeatedly swap attunements and generate combos. Yes, fire is great for damage, but that’s it – just damage. The other attunements aren’t “50% less powerful” at all, they simply work in ways that you don’t seem (and need) to, understand.

On a side note, d/d isn’t melee. Melee range is considered to be 130, and the lowest range an ele can possibly have is 300. Besides, you don’t actually hit anything with the daggers, they’re just there to help you channel magic.

You must have direct line of sight to shadowstep to the trap, so those kittening troll walls will block it.

Bummer, I know.

Pros:

• Largest health pool for any class, tied with warrior.

• Death Shroud, which to the best of my knowledge, serves as an oh kitten button most of the time. (Gain a second health bar, that’s what)

• Decent single target DPS capabilities (with the right build and gear of course)

• Exceptionally powerful self heal – Consume Conditions. Speaks for itself.

Cons:

• No cleaving autoattacks, forcing you to target and attack one mob at a time. This won’t really matter in open world situations, but in situations like high-end fractals it can sometimes prove difficult to shut down a group of mobs before they shut you (and your party) down.

• (Relative) lack of utility. All classes arguably have utility capabilities, but the necro’s set just doesn’t cut it.
  Blinds? Outdone by a thief.
  Vulnerability stacking? Other classes can apply vuln frivolously, and an engineer can cap it out alone, so yeah.
  Wells? They get in the way of most fields and grant comparatively bad effects with finishers. Most pugs have no idea what combo field priority is, but suffice to say that if your party hasn’t stacked might yet, wait for the fire field to go down before you drop a well.
  Hardly any of the necro’s utility skills actually support the party, and the ones that do are pretty weak or on excessively long cooldowns or interfere with something your party is doing. The interference bit can be eliminated by being a good team player, but can you count on pugs to have that discipline and knowledge?

• Low evasion capabilities. Necros don’t even have direct self-access to vigor, which, coupled with a lack of evasion/invulnerability/blocking abilities, forces the necro to be careful with their positioning and dodges or they end up eating the damage which could otherwise have been prevented by one of the above.

There are more points that I didn’t cover, but this should give you an idea of why necros stink in dungeons. All classes have their cons in dungeons, but the necro’s cons are the kind that prevent it from being optimal in speedruns. I’m not saying you can’t do well with a necro in dungeons, but rather there are classes out that that simply do everything a necro does, but better. If you want to play one, then go ahead. Play how you want, but without infringing on others’ freedom to do so. :)

I do know how it works, but it doesn’t let you check stats or anything. It’s just to calculate stuff like movement speed, range and dps based on what the client displays.

I don’t understand. Do you think (or wish) this game was designed for players to stand still in one position, at a certain distance from the enemy, never moving or dodging, so they can DPS the enemy while it sits still and uses one kind of attack?

As as I mentioned in my edit, the fact that you can do that is bad enemy design. And players are exploiting that bad design. See how I correctly used that word in bold there?

I don’t accept that developers in GW2 intended for such a boring game, especially considering the awesome mechanics they have implemented.

And, yes, you can stand at a certain distance from the Spider so that she stands in place, misses her web, doesn’t move closer and only throws poison fields you can easily dodge. Was that intended? Did they design all her attacks and AI so that players can just trick her into not using them?

So basically you think that rendering a monster unable to use an attack is exploiting in a game that revolves around not taking damage. You want to get hit. Well, I have news for you, brother: you can. Stacking on the Spider Queen makes it no less dangerous when it comes to avoiding her attacks. I have yet to see a single pug who stacks and dodges her melee attack.

Make your own anti-stacking group if you don’t want to have to deal with all this. And for the record, there hasn’t been an official stance on stacking since Hrouda left.
