…
I play all the story steps as a thief,
Read that again please since you clearly didn’t notice it the first time. Thief is the most fragile class in the game at low levels, even moreso than elementalist due to having near zero active defence. The tiny boost from wearing medium over light does not even come close to compensating.
I have read it.
a) Why do you assume it is true?
b) Why do you assume that “can be beaten by a game designer who worked on the game” is a good measure for difficulty?
c) What do people do that for example have slower reaction times than Mr. Vaughn and therefore regularly fail to interrupt that extremely dangerous attack? Not play the PERSONAL story because people like you and Vaughn can beat it?
d) The fact that the German magazine “Gamestar” which is ridiculously uncritical towards ANet and Guild Wars actually criticized the horrible balance of the story missions should have started all alarm bells in ANets heads: “The resentment comes back again if you are confronted with one of the badly unbalanced story tasks. And anyone will be faced with one at some point in Guild Wars 2.”
This is exactly why Guild Wars 2 right now is a mediocre game. I can’t remember any other game where frustration and fun oscillated that much like it does in GW2. But that means that there is WAY too much frustration in the game ergo a mediocre game.
….. I just ran this story step as a L8 warrior, and he definitely did not 1-shot me. I used dual axes, and just ran at him and chopped away and killed him.
I like to see a video of that including what you had as equipment, because I don’t believe you at all.
What was the maximum damage you took from a single attack?
Maybe I’m naive but I just don’t see the average casual player reading a guide to their class or posting on a forum. And, perhaps my naivety again, I don’t think they should have to do those things to get through the game.
Exactly! Casual gamers DO NOT look stuff up. The moment you do that you are NOT a casual gamer anymore.
I consider the personal story difficulty unacceptably low. I’m constantly making characters interrupt their own lines because I’m doing damage too fast for them to keep up with the dialogue triggers.
I don’t kite, I don’t use special farming builds, I don’t play just one profession with an easy-mode combo, I just trait sensibly and learn to use the effing dodge roll.
LoL, i’ve done each quests from 1 to 80 alone and with a level under the suggested because they were too easy (and i’m elementalist).
At least they need to increase the difficulty, not decrease.
Video or you all are lying!
….. (because let’s face it: the vast majority of the GW2 players simply complete their PS without ever coming to the forums and whining because of the supposedly “impossible challenge” it presents).
….
The only part of this that is definitely correct is the vast majority NEVER comes to the forums. What you don’t know is if they finished their PS or not.

I actually beat that mission first try, but I died three times. The wolf Ormi can one-hit-kill warrior at the appropriate level.
I beat him by using two great sword skills 100b and Whirlwind and be kiting my kitten off and attacking him from behind every time Garm had agro.
MY PERSONAL story forced me to be a COWARD to beat enemies! Isn’t that great.
You could please rename “personal stories” into “boring kite-fest stories”?
…. furthermore no NPC should ever be able to apply nonstop poisons and debuffs that last for much longer than the debuffs the player can apply to the NPC…..
Agreed.
Wayfarer Foothills: Two Jotuns standing close to each other. Lured one away with a longbow and killed him, switched to Mace to get the weapon skills and autoattacked the Jotun. BEFORE he was dead the first one respawned!
Killed a single Minotaur in the same area: 102 seconds until respawn AFTER it died.
After that I went back to the two Jotuns and tried it again. But they were different types of Jotun. Could it be that EACH type of enemies have their own respawn timer?
Basically this: Two minutes before I killed the second Jotun somewhere on the map a Jotun of a different Type than the first Jotun was killed. The respawn timer for that type runs out and the server now looks for a vacant spot to respawn that type of Jotun and finds one next to me. Could that be the problem?

It sounds to me like at least half the people complaining about “difficulty” have no interest in learning how to play the game, but only want to watch cutscenes undisturbed with the gameplay just being a bothersome thing you must do in between those.
Bullkitten strawman.
People are giving advice, yet it is dismissed and countered with variants of “No, whatever, shut up, it’s just to difficult, change it or I won’t play”. Mature.
If you want to play, help is there, why not use it?
Where did anyone give any advice on how to beat Doc Howler as a level 10 elementalist? Again bullkitten from you.
Please don’t try to ruin a good game for those of us who are actually here to play the game and would hate to see difficulty adjusted to toddler level just so you can have a convenient “engaging escape”. Sigh.
Why do you care how someone wants to play THEIR personal mission solo???? We are NOT talking about the rest of the game JUST THE PERSONAL STORY!!!
Dear ArenaNet,
Why can’t you fix that “common Error 7” since it is “common”? I, like many others, payed 55 euro’s for a game that does not work because of a " common" Error.
….
Europe has a two years “defects liability”. So just return it to the shop. If you bought it on buy.guildwars.com just type “refund” in the support query.
Game went from running FLAWLESSLY before the patch to disconnecting every few minutes after.

Reading the first page reminded me of this article: http://nightmaremode.net/2012/06/why-blizzards-surrogate-ruins-diablo-3-19642/
…You get the feeling from both that they’re here because one of the writers thought they were really cool and compelling and demanded they exist in this universe. And they are both the worst kind of character: the one without flaw, the one who exists solely to remind you,The Coolest Person in the Universe, that you aren’t so great.
both = Leah in Diablo 3 and Kai Leng in Mass Effect 3
Or maybe don’t play pure glass cannons when you solo? If you don’t spend a single stat point in defenseive stats you’re asking to die in solo.
How do you do that at level 10?
The problem with nerfing PS encounters is that this is going to make the personal story an even bigger joke than it already is for tanks.
Behold the miracle of “if-else”-statements:
if(class == tank) spawn(HardBoss); else spawn(EasyBoss);
Another way: if(class == tank) increaseHealthAndDefense(Boss);
….If the bosses are not punishing enough when a hit slips past my defenses and I regen it all back then there’s absolutely no challenge whatsoever and I might as well just stand in front of the boss and auto-attack WoW-style.
Have you fought against Doc Howler in “Breaking the Blade” as an Elementalist at level 10? If you have some tips are appreciated.
…
There is always the chance that some storylines are easier than others. So what storyline have you played?
(edited by Kashrlyyk.5364)
Can you provide specific examples of non-soloable events? At scale 1, they’re all soloable, or should be. Are other players in the area scaling up the event without helping?
South of the Cereboth Canyon Waypoint is the “Help Kari” event that can’t be soloed because the Destroyers respawn too fast. Kari refuses to follow you if enemies are in the way.
…
Level adjustment is a good thing. …
That is true for the open world part, but, imo, inside the personal stories it should be up to the player at what level they want to do the quest.
