I am locked out of weapon swap until level 17, for Pete’s sake. Are you afraid I might cut myself by having an extra sword on my hip?

I’ll tell you something you did good in all this mess: the dodge tutorial. Simple and efficient. Simple and efficient, like the game once was.

Ah yes that reminds me, I thought when you did the dodge tutorial the chest was supposed to have something in it. Today my niece tried that earlier on a new toon since the Norn story was broken and the chest had nothing in it. Now that it is opened there is no way she will get anything out of it in the future even if it is fixed.

I would rather the bugs (and new bugs) fixed rather than forcing us like mice in a cage down the path that you (Anet) think is best for us. It seems now after this weekend there are more bugs than ever but only on certain servers (I don’t understand that but it is what it is). I do like everything except how things are for new players. New players coming to the game are not happy.

The overlying system is fine, but the tasks need to change.

Definitely the bottom line of it. But it seems we are not being listened to. We have high level long time players telling us to shut up while new players are feeling intimidated and leaving for other games. Sadly most of my guild has went back to WoW since the changes. The only thing that might bring them back is the expansion, if they buy it.

All that is needed to fix the current daily system is understanding for low levels and more options, even if there needs to be a separate daily just for the under 22 level players who haven’t learned their way around yet and don’t have all their weapon skills unlocked yet.

What we are asking for is NOT ridiculous. Consider the new users who do NOT know how to get to pvp or WvW because it is locked for them unless they make their way to Lion’s Arch (which you don’t get to without leveling past 10 anyway).

If Anet wants to really understand our point of view, make a brand new character on a new account (Anet can do anything in the name of testing right?) and see how if it is your first character, everything is locked. If you already have one character who unlocked things, then things are unlocked (some) for the new toon (such as if you did WvW, your new toon will see it up there even if they are only level 3).

Temp SOLUTION for Broken starting areas

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Katiekaboom.1980

Jan 27th Update seems to have fixed this issue! Thanks Anet!

If it is still not fixed for you, click below for the temp workaround (attachment is part of the workaround):

Many have posted about the Norn starting area being broken and the doors (for The Great Hunt) being closed, thus preventing them from leveling past level 1.

Since we have a lot of new players now since the sale, I have decided to make this post for those searching the forums. I hope the mods will “sticky” this or move this to the correct area if need be.

Solution:

Guesting to another server, doing that part of your story and then logging out to your character select screen and going back in to your normal server, will allow you to proceed.

It is broken on the following servers:
*Jade Quarry
*Tarnished Coast
*Yak’s Bend
*Stormbluff

It is NOT broken on the following servers:
*Sorrow’s Furnace
*Fort Aspenwood
*Sea of Sorrows

(I can’t check out more than that until tomorrow due to guesting limitations)

Click the link to learn more on Guesting or look at the image I have attached.

… all those scraps and occasional gear I got from participating in events I came across. becasue everyone was playing everywhere – finding events was easier, since they didn’t end in 5 seconds from everyone zerging everything in the same area. …

but it absolutely SUCKS for pveers right now.

Oh yes that is true! So many have complained in chat about events ending before they can get to them and it costing them more for waypointing (remember low level new players do not have all that gold yet or some even more than 1 silver yet if even that). Some players have even recommending NOT telling anyone about an event just so that their group of friends can actually get to it in time to get at least a couple hits in before it ends.

The New Dailies -- Feedback welcome

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Katiekaboom.1980

Hrm, so it actually smoothly scales for lower players? That’s pretty nifty. Gets people to try out WvW, PvP and go to different zones in PvE. Exactly what it is intended to do, then.

Did you even read that low levels cannot do WvW or PvP? The dailies are designed for higher levels with no consideration to new players at all.

Why are you being defensive instead of listening/reading and looking at all the detail in the image attached?

In my image it CLEARLY shows that at most a new player is able to ONLY get 1/3 of the dailies … every day.

Suggested solution?

Simple! Add more options or have separate ones for players under level 22.

Notifications and icons for WvW and PvP will be displayed at levels 18 and 22. Players can access them before this time if they already know what to do (portals or hotkey)

New players do not know how to do that however they do see in achievements the dailies they cannot do. Even if someone walks them into WvW or PvP chances are high they will get ganked as skilled WvW & PvP players target players lower then 80 (they have a down arrow beside their level beside their name meaning they are lower than 80).

Thus the dailies for players under level 22 are extremely unrealistic unless they already have a higher level toon to switch to. With the weekend sale that just passed there are a lot of new players who are becoming frustrated. So instead of arguing, these things should be taken into consideration and rectified.

I have yet to see a day where I even remotely thought the daily was in any way an effort to get.

While i think that half the time. And on remaining days i think that, while not much of an effort, it was extremely irritating to get.

It is VERY noticeable for low level players.

Honestly, dailies is unfair for new players how it presently is and here is why: While Anet wants new players to buy the game and play, there are dailies, vistas, story, etc. However, due to their level they are limited from many things that are hanging in their faces and they don’t know why. Many assume they are broken and ask in chat until someone says they have to wait til a certain level. This leaves them feeling like “What? Why do I have to wait? It says it right there!” The way to fix this would be to have more than just 3 or 4 options for dailies in PvE since they cannot do WvW or PvP til a certain level (I believe it says for WvW it unlocks at lvl 18 and for PvP it unlocks at level 22 – hotkey is not accessible til then). However you can circumvent that by taking the portal to the Mysts in Lion’s Arch one you discover Lion’s Arch. Still, how many new players know that? I have come across new players who are quite frustrated with starting out as a new player in GW2 now. Back when I started 2 years ago it was not frustrated at all.

Idea: Perhaps different dailies for low levels? I know that if you have everyone able to do simple things that everyone would choose the simple. That is why I say just for the low levels. However, even mining, gathering, etc is limited as you don’t have the tools to do those until you get them at level 9 as a level reward or find someone to buy those from (which are not in the beginner areas).

I just hope that with all the hype about an expansion won’t make the issues with NPE to be forgotten… I still wish to have fun playing my Personal Story and not be annoyed by too much dumbing down…

I agree. A lot of people I used to play with left out of boredom but now new players are frustrated as when I try helping them I didn’t know they couldn’t see the vistas or that they were story locked until level 10 and so on. It seems it was a lot more fun when I leveled then it is for them. How is this encouraging new players to play? It is more like it is an attempt to make players play they want Anet wants them to instead of the fun play as you like that I enjoyed with GW2. I have 5 80’s and thoroughly enjoyed the game. My friend Brian (the one who was confronted by not being able to get the vista) went back to WoW and my niece (who I bought the game for at $15 during this weekend sale) is confronted with NPC’s not working and starting story tutorial mission not finishing (Norn story won’t complete due to a door not opening or Eir not showing up or something). She is stuck at level 1 and left the game.

It seems not as fun as it used to be.. The story is now too spaced out (due to level blocks) and not so fluid. You are not feeling really apart of the story .. it is just another step .. and with things not available to low level characters there is no help that says “this will be available at this level but you can do this in the meantime”. They have to know to mouse over and wait and read the pop up that says what level it will be unlocked. At least off hand weapons says in red that it unlocks when you are level 7.

Anet, do I have permission to log onto my niece’s account I got for her to guest on another server? She is extremely frustrated with this “new game” (as I just bought for her) and she has an attention deficiency and a bad temperment and just doesn’t want to play anymore since she made a Norn and cannot proceed past level 1 on it. She plays only on my computer so I am the only one who could ever fix this for her by guesting to another server but according to the TOS it is against the rules. I feel like I wasted my money on getting this for her but glad I only paid $15.

Not having the tool? Seriously? It seems like an issue with the NPC as it is also happening with the Norn starting area where Eir does not show up so people cannot proceed. Hopefully they take another look at this without ditching people and forcing them to re-roll toons..

My niece, who’s new to GW2, made a Norn and cannot proceed past level 1 due to this. Then she made a Charr. Turns out .. it is Blood Legion.

According to this thread they say “Guesting” on another server and then switching back fixes it? I will have to have my niece try this. Even though she will probably not bother and it is against Anet’s rules for me to log onto her account to do this to fix it, I thought I would share this info with others to see if that helps you proceed.

I agree and I submitted a ticket for this item. What’s most unfortunate about this is that a few friends of mine bought the game during the sale who have never tried GW or GW2 at all. While I’ve been walking them through the frustrations of the learning curve, having a bug like this so immediately in the experience is especially confusing and frustrating, especially since it’s difficult to identify it as a bug right away. Please fix this ASAP!

Agree. My neice who I bought this for is already losing interest in this game I just bought her. She says “well this game looks like crap” … It is an amazing game but so far from her own experience it is crap.

If you guest it should fix it. But I agree this needs fixed ASAP.

What do you mean by if you “guest” Ive been playing for a few months and dont know how to do this. Please explain – I’d like to take advantage of the 2x experiemce weekend as much as possible.

{UPDATE}
I looked this up on the internet and found how to guest on another server. Thank you so much foe suggesting it – It fixed it. However, I’ve missed out on 12 hours of 2x bonus experience because of this

I wonder if they will extend the double XP to make up for this .. probably not..

It is confirmed that it is NOT JUST Tarnished Coast. This is also happening on Jade Quarry as well. I bought the game for my niece and she made a Norn and she is unable to get past level 1 so she is very upset. She was UNABLE to enjoy the double XP I told her about. So far she is unsatisfied with the game. Will XP be extended for these people afflicted by the Norn starting area being BROKEN?

Also at least for Jade it has been a lot longer than just a couple hours.

I was in GW2 today when I got home from the lab and I was at the bank. Then I clicked on TP to see what was waiting for me (just money) and then the screen went all black and then crash. Now when I try to start the game it just will not start.

What steps should I take to rectify this issue and what caused it? I submitted the error when the error window came up. Where can I find a log on my computer on what that error was? Something about a map I think it was..

Problem in chat window - can't talk?

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Katiekaboom.1980

Just started happening to me as well and so far it seems to be account wide (all characters). ALL are “silenced”. I cannot talk to people or see anyone else typing in say or map chat. I was able to however talk in private whisper and in party chat. This is a new day and I launched the game and yup the problem still exists. I tested the input by typing /wiki help and that did in fact bring me to http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/?search=help so it is not an input issue. What could be causing this? Also I noticed I can not do any /me commands but I am able to do simple emotes like /cry and that shows up. It seems the only way this is fixed is by restarting the client. I just got back home and launched the game and jumped in and the issue is back however.

8 months ago this was being looked into. I know it then was fixed but the problem reappeared 3 months ago. For me it started happening around Christmas time. Please advise what steps are to be done to rectify this issue? Should I provide more details?

Thanks for reporting. We’re aware of this chat bug and investigating a fix.

I just recruited a new guild mate who JUST bought the game (the heroic edition I think he said it was that was recently on sale) and he told me he could not get any of the skill challenges. So myself and a fellow guildmate went with him. When we were able to do it the fellow guildmate made a new character just to see if it was a level thing. He was level 2 and was able to do it. I was level 28 and this new guy was level 9 and yet he could not do it and both of us were able to.

He posted a screenshot and submitted it through the game like I told him too but I also said I would check into it and post asking for direction. He is new and normally a WoW player so he compares a lot of things to WoW and wonders now if he wasted his money with GW2 since you kind of do really need those skill points to open up new skills…

Here is his screenshot:
