Impressive on the speed runs, seems like you are all pretty much specced for damage?
My speed runs don’t kill as fast since most of us are more balanced a bit more tanky and we are in a primary WvW guild so we do that alot as well. Too lazy to always respec and carry around 3 sets of armor instead of 2.
Not to mention with DR in place we already hit it on our 5th run even doing ~15-20min runs :/
Everyone in the party is in full Berserker (I keep an extra set for WvW as well, since I prefer a different rune set for that anyways). I honestly see no need for survival stats in current exploration modes as long as you have good protection/weakness up time.
The DR system is annoying and need rework. Current work around isn’t too bad, you can simply balance an Arah here and there to off set the short runs. In the end the extra money/time you gain from faster runs far compensates for that 1 retrait every few hours or so, plus I’d hate to do WvW in my PvE build anyways, same goes for PvE with WvW build.
This boss along with High Priestess of Grenth in Arah’s Seer path needs some serious reevaluation.
The mechanics are not challenging, they are merely there to artificially extend the fight duration. Doesn’t matter how effectively you complete these encounters they still take ridiculously long in comparison to every other boss in the zone.
Make these more punishing, make them challenging, don’t insult us players by forcing us to repeat tedious behaviors that is on the difficulty level of events in starting zones.

In addition, in the same path (Seer Path), Priestess of Lyssa, Farnaz also ceased to perform any abilities.
Ruined City of Arah – Seer Path – Priestess Dwayna Simins
This boss used to do things listed under her name, namely stealth. Now she does not.
If people are actually interested in semi-quick runs here are some easier paths that I recorded.
Citadel of Flame – Ferrah Path

Just killed her, she died in a minute. She did 0 ability, no petrify, no red circles, no restealth, bugged perhaps?
To me Path 1 and 2 are pretty much equal in length if things go smoothly. With Path 1, fighting the Gorilla boss isn’t necessary. Path 4 IMO is the most fun, with fun encounters at a good pace. It’s a shame it’s not done more.
For me personally, path 1 is about 2x the length in comparison to path 3, path 2 is 1.5x the length, path 4 is between those two. The length really sinks in when you have done each of them in the double digits. I really don’t think any other dungeon is this disproportional in length.
I wouldn’t rank path 4 very high on the fun meter either, especially with the chain teleport boss that is 5x longer than it should have been, and extremely boring anti-climatic final boss.
The issue is PUGs are refusing to learn the fight. They refuse to do it any other way and refuse to learn the proper way. If they stopped pulling to WP and learned how to do it the right way, then we would see more groups doing Paths 1,2, and 4 instead of just Path 3.
Even if PuGs learned the correct way I doubt you will see anything more of maybe path 2. The biggest hindrance for path 1 and 4 isn’t Giganticus. The path themselves are way too long to be worth the effort. Unless they balance the rewards with length accordingly (I doubt it will happen), you will rarely ever see anyone running these aside for Dungeon Master achievement.
A good way of finding out the best balance setup is using the following (credit goes to SAI_Peregrinus).
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Auc_PUlJR9sQdGxoMmFKakdQNThTUGI2VUhsSV9kOEE&pli=1#gid=0
“It seems the optimum point between EHP and damage is all knight’s armor with Beryl accessories and 1 Emerald Earring with a Beryl Jewel. "
Of course you can mix and match depending how much EHP you want to sacrifice for damage.
Full Berserker’s set is the highest DPS gear you can obtain with any current DPS builds, this includes any wonky condition setup as well.
But it’s extremely glass cannon though, I wouldn’t recommend full Berserker’s gear.
Mix and match your gear to achieve a balance of dps and survivability.
It worked out fine for me, completed every exploration mode with it.
Mobs die faster, less damage taken time increases EHP indirectly. Bonus: way faster runs.
The exploration mode category contains the paths you mentioned.
Most exploration mode only has 3 paths, seldom 4, I’m not sure if there is one with 5 paths.
So 4-5 different “types”, not 7.
Full Berserker’s set is the highest DPS gear you can obtain with any current DPS builds, this includes any wonky condition setup as well.
10 points in Zeal and 25 points in Radiance is the basis for any DPS build (PvE wise). Any other build without those two simply will not put out close to the same number.
The exact formula for aggro is currently unknown. However it is discovered that its based on variety of factors mainly including the following: Damage done (perhaps snap shot of current DPS over a short timeframe), player proximity, player’s toughness. This might vary between bosses and trash.
There is no limit to where you draw the line, until every single mob in the instance is killed there will always be someone that is not satisfied. There will never be a “right” way unless Anet publishes this information directly.
However, there are some very big differences between blatant exploits and fighting optional content. It is quite obvious when something is not intended, aka waypoint kiting, wall jumping some extremely remote area or even standing in a location where mob’s pathing is bugged to the point where they won’t attack.
(edited by Kevin.2176)
The path to the waypoint does not go underwater
Isn’t the way point right before the hot-potato event and after the second mage-type altar boss? Unless this is another path that people kite to.
I’m curious, does he swim underwater with you as you kite? I don’t imagine to be very comfortable for him to fit in that tiny underwater tunnel.
Stick to groups where people play the way YOU want to play instead of trying to force everyone to play your way. There is no RIGHT way to play this game or to complete dungeons, only different ways, varying in terms of loot and efficiency.
Well said. Unless Anet directly addresses something as not acceptable, or it just borderlines as an exploit (aka terrain or waypoint exploitation), I consider everything to be fair game. There is absolutely no “correct” way of doing something unless Anet makes it public its original design intent (good example being Magg).
I want to apologize for derailing a legitimate discussion for almost two pages. I probably didn’t have the best self control when a person directly insults me and my group repeatedly in three different threads (either intentional or otherwise).
However, it does really bother me that some of the most vocal voice in this community are also the ones that can’t see beyond their own way of doing things, and would go as far as criticizing those that do things differently, in the least constructive way possible.
The process of getting there is often times more rewarding than hitting 80 itself. This isn’t WoW or other typical mmo, where the actual game starts after hitting the level cap.
Dungeons aren’t that bad, however don’t expect to be doing that for months to come if the PvE content stays the same as it is right now.
This strikes the perfect balance between damage and survivability. His health might seem unreasonable at first, but as you get more comfortable with the fight you can afford to put on more DPS pieces as opposed to ones with survival stats. Giganticus’s health seems very reasonable, as 4-7 minutes is a good ball park for a mid boss in one of the harder exploration modes.
I’m not going to bother going back and quoting every single “beggar” “pathetic” and “unworthy” comments you have made in the past two pages. Those are magically directed at someone else in this two people conversation?
Until you show me a screenshot or a video or anything at all of another Arah 25 min run being done that is being posted on these forums, I’m going to assume your comments are directed towards me/my group. This isn’t an ego problem or whatever elitism issue you made up. You have quoted my video, addressed DIRECTLY at it, and based your whole argument off that run. Am I supposed to just ignore it and think differently?
You are very inconsistent in your posting, and it is quite hard to keep up all the different points you dabbled around (some are even contradicting).
Understand that, no matter what kind of gating mechanism, leashing, zone wide aggro, or any other mechanic that Anet decided to implement, there will always be speed clears. There will always be people trying to clear things more efficiently than others, this is a challenge to some, and to those probably the only interesting PvE goals left in the game after Dungeon Master.
You have to understand people have preferences. Some consider this not to be a worthy pursuit due its difficulty amongst pugs and its lack of rewards.
I personally always kill this boss as a 2 minute fight is worth an extra waypoint and ~5 silver.
You can see those posts by logging off your account
Just copy the link and paste it afterwards.
The point (I believe) is to compare the difficulty of two modes laid out by Arena Net, not to assess the dungeon’s difficulty as a whole.
Exploration modes are generally not hard, like you said knowledge and preparation goes a long way in completing a dungeon. I have personally never failed a story mode, but this is not an indication of the inflated difficulty of story modes in comparison to its exploration counter parts.
This is what makes me part of the elite of my server, my attitude.
I’m quoting this because I think I will probably put this in my signature soon.
Anyways, I don’t consider myself any of those things you randomly mentioned, I don’t believe I have made any indication of such.
My entire point that you so conveniently bypassed is that, if a group is capable of completing all paths of Arah at a relatively decent pace, it is simply laughable to assert they are unable to clear the trash they skipped.
This is probably hard for you to accept, but there are many people out there with full Arah gear. I find it extremely hard to believe that someone who plays for the “community” goes out of their way to insult another group purely due to some elevated standard that you do not even follow yourself.
You don’t have to take my challenge, you also don’t have any basis to make your “beggar’s run” “pathetic” “newbies” who don’t understand simple trash mechanics.
I think you are misunderstanding me. I am willing to clear ANYTHING you clear, aka EVERY SINGLE MOB in the instance if you prefer.
Since you are so sure that we are just pathetic bunch of beggars that isn’t worthy of the “prestigious Arah gear”, feel free to take the challenge. Your post is quite hilarious and ironic at the same time. The prime measurement of performance is time, (quality is not a factor in this case, since you can’t obtain more than 60 tokens per run), yet you are backing out on people that you look down upon?
Any artificial standard you want to throw out there, any mobs you deemed as acceptable to skip or not skip, just let me know, don’t let a bunch of “pathetic beggars” put you to shame.
I completely agree.
The difficulty seems to be swinging all over the place, some story mode puts a lot of exploration modes to shame. If exploration mode is at the intended difficulty (which I don’t believe it is), then story mode is grossly overtuned.
what…? I’m having a really hard time understanding majority of your posts
so are you up to this challenge? you can bring all your real talents, I’ll bring the people I met
just fraps a run of any path, screenshot the start/finish time if you want, or just provide any form of evidence, and I’ll show you a frapsed version of the same path of us clearing it with faster time.
Since you are so convinced we can’t do simple trash, I am willing to go this far just to prove a point on the internet.
You know, for such an attitude having person and what a loner I am, I actually met plenty of people doing these runs, and guess what, there is this wonderful list feature in guild wars for you contact them and befriend them for future runs. This is where my “we” came from
what happened to your “elites”?
So what run is this going to be?
you can PM me if you don’t want to clutter these forums with more OT.
Since you are on the topic of comparing exploration mode to WoW bosses, I can tell you first hand that the gap of difficulty is quite significant.
This is a personal anecdote, so take this however you want. But Yogg with 0 light (4 light up is the easier version btw) took around 350-400 attempts at average of 10 minutes each. Hardest exploration mode in Guild Wars 2 took 2 hours to learn and finish.
I know you have to take into account that you need to coordinate this with 24 other people in comparison to just 4, but you have to understand the skill discrepancy isn’t that significant at high up level of raiding. Exploration mode difficulty are at best Cataclysm heroics level with leveling/crafting gear.
It is perfectly understandable to back out. Like I said before, any way YOU want to clear it, aka, anything you kill we will kill.
P.S. they are called Deadeyes
I’m getting a feeling I’m getting trolled like crazy, but I’ll bite.
Ok, like I stated few posts back. Since we are obviously not up to your supreme standards, and despite having cleared every single Arah path multiple times, and farmed enough tokens for close to 3 Arah sets (sorry I don’t do obvious terrain exploits), we are yet “pathetic” “beggars” not worthy of lol the armor you are wearing.
My offer still stands, any path of your choosing, in any instance, any trash + boss, however you want to clear it. We can make this a friendly little challenge.
(edited by Kevin.2176)
It is a 23 minute video.. for someone who doesn’t give a kitten about the video you sure do a thorough job of “ridicolizing” me.
I’m sorry that I didn’t press record early enough since I wasn’t in zone, lol. You can complete the zone in 32 minutes with pugs (funny how you remember exactly how long it is with random pugs, from 2 days ago), but you take 5-7 minutes on the first two bosses? are there any more random number you want to pull out of your kitten ? how about 80% of the instance skipped?
So you really think a group that is capable of one-shotting every single path with decent time would need help with trash mobs? Please tell me more about these deeply specific trash mobs mechanic. I’m dying to know.
Ahhh that’s it. Thanks. And.. why he’s talking about that video here?
An OT for troll around, or a personal attack?
You are talking about Arah 25 min clears being “beggar’s run”, “noobpath” and as “pathetic”, no? I can quote you again if you really want.
This is even done before I even posted anything at all.
What is this, I don’t even… what??
Does that mean you can damage invisible thieves too?
Yes, invisibility does not equal invulnerability.
I’m missing your point. You want all players to obtain all max-stat gear as soon as they hit level 80?
The process is already fairly pain-less, what you are asking is to further reduce what little depth this game already has.
He’s not bugged. Numerous devs have stated numerous times that he is working as intended. To boot, he’s really not that difficult.
It was a confusing title, but you should at least read the post.
This is a very good post.
For phase 3, most downs happen when he drains a person and auto-attacks relatively soon after. His drain attack is only frontal, so if you position yourself behind him you can see the drain animation and roll all his drain damage.
I just hope more people are realizing stacking survivability isn’t necessary for dungeons, learning the encounter is far more important.
Blocking mechanic completely trivialize encounters with infrequent hard hits. Projectile reflects on a 32 second CD makes Giganticus even more of an easy mode.
Sadly, this game probably won’t be ever be balanced around PvE.
Potion and food buff is probably one of the biggest things people often overlook when attempting a DPS check. Keep in mind the bonus you gain from this is very significant, ~15%+ damage increase and 10% damage less taken, that is a bigger upgrade than rare → exotic.
If you are attempting the brute force strat (which I really don’t advocate), positioning is very important. Make sure she is in a nice corner and her movement is very restricted.
Your water break out person has to be on top as well, make sure they have full party frame enabled so they can see the debuff blinking and when it goes off, this will ensure a fairly high DPS up time on your party.
Lastly, try to fill the last two slot of your party with melee DPS, I can see you have poison handled for the most part, so having 2 warriors would be the most ideal for your composition.
Your posts makes 0 sense, in any context or form. They are very incoherent and inconsistent.
Bro, go in peace, i (nor anyone else) gives a kitten of who you are and what you did and your “only video on internet” (which doesn’t means you and your group are the only one able to perform it, but i guess you’re having difficulties to get it haha
).
I have made 0 indication of this is only capable by us. I guess we are having difficulties???
This thread, and my posts HERE are EXCLUSIVELY related to speedrun as SKIPPING 80% of the content. And this is the second time i have to type it.
1. 80% content?? this is second time I have said this, show me anything about this being done, anywhere, please. Is this 80% something you just randomly came up? did you divide time spent on each section by total length? is this related to something you posted previously about path 3 being skipped??
2. So all your “pathetic” "25 min noobpath “beggar’s run” are referring to something completely different? I guess there are so many evidence of this being done everywhere that my huge ego just prevented me from seeing it.
If you’re begging me to give you an answer and peace, send me via PM a link of your video , and if i have time i’ll comment on it and we can have a discussion.
You can look it up yourself if you want to learn a thing or two.
So fun, when a player truly believe to be an elite player just when his friends are online , when they are offline noone even talk to him and block him haha
????
You can already craft majority of the max-stat gear, only problem being some non-power based builds do not have an optimal craftable set.
That post is written with the mind set that everyone should complete all dungeons just to obtain gear.
This is flawed that:
1. He wants a cosmetic set, not just stats, this is something extra that requires work and effort
2. He wants to complete all content with any pug he runs
I strongly support harder difficulties, but as an alternative and not as a requirement.
This is one of the biggest time sink for Path 4.
As far as I know there isn’t another faster way to complete this boss. Phase 1 of this fight is extremely buggy as he often times reset health randomly despite players attacking him asap upon teleporting. Phase 2 of this encounter gets even more mind numbing as the rate in which he spawns adds is based on a timer (?) and not the rate you kill them, so you have to wait, regardless how well you do.
This is why you have an ego.
You assume everyone has seen this video. One assumes that it’s your video since you “throw” it around this particular THREAD like it’s the second coming of Christ and we need to see him in all his glory.I have not seen this video.
Nor do I care to.
It’s popularity on the internet nor it’s content have no bearing whatsoever on this discussion as this discussion revolves around the varying amounts of speed any group may possess when running Arah and how they should be rewarded for it.If there is such a video of a group doing Arah in 25 minutes or less, I congratulate them.
But again, per the original discussion…………………………it doesn’t matter at all.
I’m very confused as to why you’re here.
I’m not sure you have read the whole conversation. Actually I know you have not, because I have stated this is mine, you do not have to assume anything. I have not linked this video in this thread once, nor do I care to, and this is my way of letting people see this in full glory?
The only person I assume to have seen the video is the only person I have been quoting and responding to this whole time.
That is the SAME person that has based his entire argument on why speed run is a not intended and a cheap way of obtaining gear. Additionally, it is the same person that has been attacking this run as “pathetic” and “beggar’s run”.
This is why I am responding.
Omg someone stop this ego guy please. What video you keep talking about, quote me the video on this thread, hahaha
The posts you quoted refers to people who SKIP 80% of the dungeon, wake up.
???
wtf ego are you talking about, are you serious?? this is coming from someone from the “pug of elite players”, “leader of future talents”, riding on the forefront of world first contents, and with Arah armor AND dungeon master linked in their signature? lol?
Skipping 80% of the dungeon?? wtf are you talking about, show me anything at all about this being done please.
These are in your OWN words, YOU bought up 25 minute dungeon runs being beggar runs w/e. So you have no idea what this is, yet you consistently spill uninformed opinion about this matter?
And who gives a kitten of your 25 minutes video at all, expecially on this thread where we talk about how long is for normal players path 3 and other paths, LOOOOL
Much more if as you wrote, just you and your guildies/buddies (because alone, you’re a noone like any other top end of us) is able to. Bro, i don’t want to be mean, GTFO
It looks like you care a lot
Path 3 noobpath skipping all, ye. Hoping on a strong fix soon.
A 25 minutes beggarrun is just pathetic, and more pathetic is who dare to wear this armor not knowing a kitten of arah at all except his stupid speedrun with 0 idea of arah adds mechanics, how to deal with them, why dodge and when etc, playing with an arah armor like a funny noob on every dungeon from AC to arah, or just zerging like brainless on wvw.
i was answering from when Joxy wrote arah3 can be done in 25 minutes (skipping all).
Every basis of your speed run argument has been referring to my video. Looks like you cared so little that you based your entire argument around it.
What the hell this guy is talking about?
I’ mot talking at all with you. You throw yourself and your video performance, i was answering from when Joxy wrote arah3 can be done in 25 minutes (skipping all).
Which is something i hope SOON wil end. THIS is what i want, THIS is the beggarrun, and end of speedruns and giganticus wp zergfight.Video video, which video are we talking about lolz. This thread was meant to talk about how long does it take path 3 and how incredibly long are other paths. Who gives a kitten of your video (noone knows what video
) you’re talking about and your fast performance noone is competing to? Roflmao.
You mean the ONLY video on the internet of a 25 minute Arah run currently? The first result on google and youtube for “Arah 25 min run”?? The only one that has been thrown around these forums as basis of Arah speed runs?
Jesus, so the entire basis of your argument/point is based on something you have never even seen… wow why am I even responding to you.
I guess this guy quoted my post, instead of the Joxy.6879 one.
I didn’t tag nothing.
And no, the giant is not meant to be killed , he goes around being a threat, not part of the path skipped with a speedboost. And yes, except the giant, i was talking of kill all adds on the way (obiouvsly not extra adds all around the entire map, are you joking?)
And still, if and when the pug is able to perform it.
I ask a fix of every add on the road, no more skippable, and the pathetic giganticus wp kitefight. More spiders crippling, a couple more spider champions on particular spots, some mage/illusionist champion and we can finally forget the speedrun.
A 25 beggarrun is just pathetic, and more pathetic is who dare to wear this armor not knowing a kitten of arah at all except his stupid speedrun with 0 idea of arah adds mechanics, how to deal with them, why dodge and when etc.And just so you know, i’m not on a competition with you or anyone at all about who is faster. I play with pugs of elite players (if and when they are online, when not available i pick random peeps on LA ), elite players i gathered during my weeks gaining my armor, from september, i was leading pugs of future talents till the end even during shardrun days, and path 4 during the “impossible” bugged" “noone in the world ever completed it” days
So you get to make the call on whats a “threat” and what is necessary? I’m surprised you, one of the “elite players”, still haven’t understood the point yet.
That “25 beggarrun” is filmed in my perspective, that is me playing the Guardian. Additionally, most of the “challenging” GW2 content are also in that youtube channel as well. As far as I know, this is the only 25 minute of Arah path 3 video on youtube, so based on that I’m assuming you are directing majority of your comments towards me and how my group operates.
This is why I question if you actually watched the video at all. If a group (my group specifically) that is able to 1 shot Gigantipus, Simins, every version of Alpha and any other PvE content you deemed worthy in this game, you honestly believe we lack the understanding “of Arah adds mechanics, how to deal with them, why dodge and when etc”? You must be joking me. I seriously hope this is just a huge troll.
If you do not want competition, then do not wave around your 38 minute path 3 all trash clear flag around and use “you can’t” after it, it is quite insulting for you to refer something me and my group did as a beggar’s run, or even worse as “pathetic” and unworthy of whatever artificial standard you deemed acceptable.
If you truly feel a group that can clear Arah under 25 minutes can’t perform to your standard, then I’m willing to own that up. Again, the offer still stands, any path, any way you want to run it. Just let me know.
