“Oh my god. It’s hard to keep my temper now because of you people. CHANCE is exactly what it says. A CHANCE. You don’t know what people assumed, and it’s irrelevant. You DIDN’T KNOW the chance, but there is a chance. There was no bullkitten and you got what you paid for.???? Why you people can’t accept this fact i cannot fathom.”
So if it was a 0.00000001% “chance” it would be ok? Of course not. Nobody is threatening with a class action lawsuit, so you can have your semantics argument.
“Ok ok so Anet didn’t give a specific chance you are absolutely right. So , going by this simple fact, why on earth did you and everyone else buy the kitten keys when you clearly have a massive problem with being in the dark? I feel it’s a very good question, and it’s something which should have been discussed beforehand.”
Do you know the drop rates of all the items in a regular BL chest? Random boosts, gathering tools, etc? No, but you still know you’re going to get something. You open chests that have now officially been infused with halloween stuff… what do you expect to happen?
Is it really irresponsible to assume that they actually wanted us to have limited-time seasonal skins? 10 chests, nothing—is it bad luck, or a bad drop rate? 20 chests? 30? 40? You don’t know until you come to the forum and see the kittening.
“possible junk, so the ratio is 9:32 … Is that justifiable?”
Pretty sure the odds are much worse than that.

If anet makes holiday skins so easy to obtain, everyone will just have them in first day. Imagine everyone runs around swinging their chainsaw great sword and scythe staff.
I use a flamethrower. Necro staff skills look like they’re wielding a scythe. I’m now sure that a bunch of chainsaws would have really ruined the atmosphere.

“If the drop rate is 1% and you buy 10 keys the drop rate isn’t suddenly 10%, you just have more opportunities to try.”
I don’t think most people were under the impression that it was truly a 1% chance and that they were simply trying to beat the odds by buying in bulk.
It’s not illegal. I bet most people won’t quit over this. Some people probably did have unrealistic expectations, (they complain about opening 10 chests when others complain about opening 100). None of this means that this was inevitable, handled in the best way possible, or not going to have an affect on future gem sales.
Very few people complaining that I have seen are actually asking for their money back. They simply aren’t pleased with how this all panned out. Is their disappointment really something that should be criticized?
“The trick they missed, I feel, is giving out intermediate prizes. (The equivalent of the $10 prize). They could have upped that number of rewards without affecting the value of the uniques.”
I think this would have helped, but I think giving more info on the rate of halloween drops compared to other chest items would have been better. The only reason I can think that they did not do this is because not nearly as many people would have actually bought them trying to get halloween items. That’s the sad part.
“Let me rewind time back to EQ1, it took people 6months to a year to get their epic weapons.”
Skins dude. Skins.
Such is the cost of looking cool.
You don’t even have a clue what the average cost actually is. You’re comparing a decade old gear grinding system with a cash shop just for the sake of ranting about “entitled” youth. You’re kitten because other people are kitten ? Why don’t you go hang out at the DMV and argue with people complaining about the long line or something.
“Anyway, I’m out. Obviously the majority of the people who post here are more inclined to think that they were cheated out of their mystical cosmetic RNG obtained skin, so whatever I’m saying will fall on deaf ears.”
Thanks. BTW, you have a chance to guess my username/password. If you do, you can have all my stuff.
“I like how I present viable statements and people say “are you getting paid by them”?”
Making the legalistic statement that “any chance is still a chance”, implying that odds are irrelevant deserves ridicule.
They mislead no one. They added the items to the loot table of the chests, you might get one. You might not. They said you had a chance, you have a chance.
Is anet paying you to spam this thread with crap like this or something? If the drop rate was 1 in a trillion then you would still have “a chance” and it would still be “ kitten #8221;. Why don’t you just let people lament about wasting 50 bucks in peace?
If someone went to a casino, blew a lot of cash playing slots, and never did anything but lose, they would complain about it too. It’s not the same thing as demanding you money back; it is simply ranting to other gamblers about the horrible odds.
If you have no intention of either relating to this or relaying a different experience, then you’re really just in this thread to troll.
Recommendation:
Even scratch-off lottery posts the odds of winning. Perhaps less people would be angry if the odds of winning were advertised. Unfortunately, I’m certain that most people would not have bothered buying gems for this then.
Add my name to the list of people disappointed.
Neither is it a balance problem when people complain about snipers, spies, vehicles, dive kicks, projectiles, wakeup ultras, bunnyhopping, grenades, weapon jumps, tier 1 rushing, tower rushing, air units, or the red kittening turtle shell.
So it isn’t just about stealth-hate then, is it? You should write up a complete list so that all MMOs/FPS know what is eligible for tweaking. Or are you one of those people that thinks nothing should ever be nerfed?
Why does every single game that comes out have to waste months of time and resource balancing the “I wanna be a Ninja and kill with impunity class”?
Games that offer stealth in PvP so rarely seem to offer effective counters to it. It’s sort of an “all or nothing” deal I guess; if the class is based on stealth and stealth doesn’t work, the class doesn’t work.
Personally, I’ve always seen it as rogue classes should get bonus damage for less durability and positioning requirements. They should have tools that assist them with mitigating both penalties, but if their penalties don’t come into play on a regular basis then they are not effectively penalties anymore.
The other problem is the same tools that help with positioning inevitably help too much with escaping. Some escape tools are fine, but everyone should get caught with their pants down periodically, even when they play their class perfectly. If you play a rogue in some games perfectly, you really aren’t likely to be caught.
So I guess it’s all risk vs. reward that is usually screwed up, IMO.
Thief mobility is exaggerated. It is the best because no cooldown, but other classes all have good escape skills. Warriors can use their Bull’s Charge and Sword Leap with swiftness to escape just as easily 90% of the time. Elementalist can use Ride the Lightning and Blink. Mesmers can cloak just like thieves and blink as well. It’s not like you have to stay and fight with the other classes.
How many classes have a short cooldown or no cooldown on:
Runspeed and
Blink and
Vanish?Uh initiative is a cooldown system. It’s just a global cooldown that we have to also share between weapons. So the tradeoff is we can spam skills but we can’t swap weaponsets to get all new cooldowns like other classes.
Runspeed is a waste of a utility slot for sPvP. You should be relying on swiftness.
Blink is superior than infiltrator’s arrow because it’s also stunbreak.
Vanish, I guess you mean stealth which is kind of what makes the thief different. It isn’t better than block in most cases. You can’t cap points while in stealth, player’s pets can still see you in stealth and follow you around leading people to wherever you are hiding.
I like how you make initiative sound like a compromising system since you are only able to effectively spam your single skill instead of being able to (or having to) weapon swap to get the job done.
So stealth doesn’t count because “I’m a thief lol”, teleport doesn’t count because it doesn’t include a stun breaker, and runspeed doesn’t count because you shouldn’t use it. Yeah, I guess you’re right under those circumstances thieves don’t have superior mobility.

It surprised me that the game that broke the “holy trinity” and other rules decided to make the most cliche version of an uber 1v1 assassin machine. I thought GW2 was all about removing necessary evils that people grew to hate in the average MMO. Wasn’t there some way to make thieves feel totally unique and fun without having to make them play by totally different rules from the other classes?
Not to mention they can stealth waaaay more than in other MMO’s. Allowing them to safely get even more initiative and then to just resume spamming. (bugged) stealth, horrible initative mechanic, and dodging while attacking is probably the dumbest thing i’ve ever seen in a game. Did arenanet think all this stealth was what people where waiting for in a skill based MMO? Free dodging/immunite while attacking? Lets give em quickness too!!!1
You forgot superior mobility, they need that to ensure they can faceroll or disengage safely if they miss the keyboard with their face.
IMO, the issue is here (and in some other MMOs) is that you don’t need toughness or vitality if you can effectively pick-and-choose your fights and escape if you don’t like the way they start.
I’d want to make sure that thieves kept the mobility necessary to do positioning, but I really don’t see why they need the ability to exit combat at will. It’s about as fun as giving every class a “teleport to last waypoint” option that they can use right before they die.
I think it would be worth testing something like making positioning skills a little more forgiving, replacing some mobility with evasion, and even increasing stealth durations if necessary. A thief needs the necessary tools to get the job done. If they fail to do that, they don’t deserve a get-out-of-jail-free card anymore than any other class does.
Anet understands PvP so much better than other MMOs. Their design decisions are common sense and vindication for people who have been pointing out how stupid and unsustainable PvP is in failed games like RIFT.
You’re right; targetting your opponent, blowing cooldowns, and running away are very crucial steps aside from the 3333.
You should have listed ‘logging into the game’ as an important part of the “combat process” lol.
