pvp is so fast paced... how is this fun?

Whatever, you guys can defend the game all you want, but there’s no skill involved in killing people in just a few seconds while they’re stunned, and I can’t see how that could be considered fun.

Personally, I think there’s as much/more skill involved than most MMO PvP I’ve played. That being said, I’m not really a fan of the current meta/ttk either. More importantly, I’d imagine it’s very unforgiving for newcomers. I’ve seen that story too many times before and I’ve never liked the ending.

Good point. Close call! We wouldn’t want rangers at the top of the food chain again. Their reign lasted too long; it’s time for celestial Eles to shine.

I really miss the old traps w/ rune. I adapted to something entirely different and am having fun (and more effectively), but it’s a shame that it feels like one less play-style option after using it for so long.

Traps are strong (for now), but so are most conditions. Even so, I would have chosen a damage penalty for being able to throw them if it came from a rune or trait.

Seems nicely done in a lot of ways, just lost all the character that I loved about the old LA. Feels too sanitized, (and a bit bland tbh), for my tastes. Went from arguably my favorite city to definitely my least favorite.

Good news is there are some other great cities to hang my hat in. Please don’t re-theme DR or BC …just like… make a new city instead maybe?

Gear beyond the tiers we already have are not going to be added and our existing tiers won’t change, they won’t be our main end-game form of progression for your characters/account for all the reasons we’ve covered before – it isn’t what we think Gw2 is about.

I pre-ordered the ultimate edition just for this comment.

The should kill 2 birds with 1 stone and just split off a few servers to freeze vertical progression on. They could WvW with eachother and the arguments against ascended gear/level caps/etc would go away forever.

WvW, it doesn’t matter at all unless the other server somehow has the vast majority of their players kitted out in Ascended gear, and if that was they case, they were probably going to roll over you without it anyways. WvW isn’t at all about one person, or even a dozen people, it’s about the server as a whole. Getting your face stomped on? Go man a treb or an arrow cart. Run supplies. Whatever.

Why does it not suffice when someone says they want the best gear to WvW in? Do you really need to make that decision for anyone else with your reasons?

So for those that quit and came back for gear progression (both of you), and those that would quit if there was not gear progression… how long this ascended/infusion thing going to last you? If/when you get full ascended, are you going to be expecting a new tier? If not, are you planning on continuing to play at that point?

Just wondering what a magical tier or two really does to quench the thirst of progression addicts.

That 10,000 only means something if you have a pretty accurate estimate of how many of those ~2 million players are active posters on this forum. 20,000? 40,000? 100,000? in other words: if you know the total number of active posters on this forum, then you can estimate if it’s 1 out of 2, 1 out of 4 or 1 out of 10 players that are unhappy with this change. Given that we don’t even know that… those figures are completely meaningless.

It cracks me up when people try to invalidate any sort of statistics with a decent sized sample. Xfire is a good example… people try to point out how invalid it is because the majority of people do not use xfire. Yet how many times when a game’s population obviously drops is xfire saying it is in fact going up? Never. AoC, WAR, SWTOR, just to name some huge examples of games that topped the charts and then they start merging servers for the hell of it?

You can stick your head in the sand and say that unless you have 100% account of official numbers that they are meaningless… but that’s like making fun of people for bringing an umbrella to work when there are rain clouds outside. It’s the same for people teasing with comments like “haha yeah DOOOOM” or “OMG THE SKY IS FALLING LOLZ”. How many MMOs have you played where it wasn’t actually the case? WoW? Or do you consider keeping enough users to keep the lights on with a fraction of the development a game had within a year is still just fine for an MMO?

I’m not happy about these things, it just annoys me when people choose to be blindly optimistic and try to mislead other players or developers.

New tier of Runes planed?

The only far-fetched possibility I can imagine that would keep me playing is if they somehow split up the servers. If they converted X-number of “Manifesto” servers out there that locked ascended gear/infusions, then gave these servers their own WvW group, then the kitteny version of GW2 could go on it’s merry linear progression way while the promised GW2 happily stayed behind.

Nobody is buying the spin about how “filling a gap” for a cosmetic weapon upgrade is necessary by creating a statistical gap for all slots.

So now we’re on course for eventually having this new tier of gear that is going to be obtainable every way that current exotics are? When is that supposed to happen by? Are you going to raise the level cap too? If you do, is ascended gear going to be available right away with the new level cap, or is it going to phase in again?

How is this not sounding like every other MMO model? Why did you bother making legendaries cosmetic in the first place? You know the answer; we know the answer. The spin is insulting.

I Know Why They Changed

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Kolache.3964

Kolache.3964

Some of us have been through the majority of every english speaking fantasy MMO launches since UO (or before). It’s all so predictable now.

AN markets and sells GW2 to community of gamers that hate “new” traditional MMO model.

Shortly after GW2 launches, all FOTM traditional MMO players also purchase GW2, because 1) they either don’t read it’s premise, 2) don’t care and just want a game to “finish” in a month, or 3) predicted this change?

Most of these people get angry at the lack of linear progression and leave at endgame. Although AN was not originally marketing to this audience, losing that many players sucks, they want them back!

In comes gear progression, under the spin of comparing a cosmetic legendary weapon upgrade to an imaginary statistical gap that needs to be filled for all slots.

The stupid thing about this is that anyone who knows MMOs knows that you never win back a significant portion of your players that quit out of disappointment near release.

I think they confused the population leveling off to the niche audience they were marketing to with an uncontrollable bleed of players. Obviously most MMO players like linear progression. Obviously not all MMO players like linear progression; this MMO was supposed to be for them.

If you get a satisfactory answer, the next question I’d like to see answered is “what is the net gain in progression when both you and your opponent have your power increased by 10%?”

People shouldn’t have to explain why they value the core principals of a game they decided to purchase based on its core principals. It’s common sense; agree to disagree.

What’s amazing is that even WoW didn’t raise the power cap that quickly after release. I have no interest in the gear refreshing zero-sum game anymore… that’s why I waited for and came to GW2. I thought people that made and played this game were on the same page. Very sad news… I guess the only bright side is that we find out so soon after release and not after investing a lot of time.

I’m sorry, I thought we were talking about skins specifically, since they were obviously the only reason that people bought keys in the first place. I didn’t realize this was the rehashed “be happy you paid an amazing amount for candy corn” argument.

No, the argument is “you knew what was in the chests, don’t lash out at Arenanet just because you bought 100 of them and you now wish you hadn’t”.

And you need to pay better attention. The argument about candy corn was that it WASN’T in there, not that it WAS. That’s why Arenanet made the second round of chests allowing people to convert non Halloween contents in Halloween items.

A lot of complaining about the chests in this thread. Did you open the chest and get nothing, or did you get something you didn’t want? I’m fairly certain it’s the got something you didn’t want part. There was no guarantee you would open up a chest with complaining random list of items and get the one thing you were after. Go cry me a river. People complaining about the chests are nothing but cry babies. If you can show me 1 tiny bit of information where ANet said you were guaranteed the item you wanted and I’ll retract my statement.

So you really aren’t even sure what someone that is complaining here has experienced… you don’t know how much or how little they got… you don’t know what the drop rate is, other than it’s not 100%, and that’s all that matters… you don’t know anything other than you hate whiners and want to berate them. Does that about sum it up?

I just want to know what ever happened to the whole philosophy of using tokens to get gear.

I was thinking about this myself. So many forms of tokens/faction to spend on gear to avoid the RNG. Then in the first holiday event we get not only RNG, but compared to other MMOs a pretty harsh rate at that. If anything I would have thought it would have been done the other way around. If you realize the benefits of token based systems, why would you put in the potentially more frustrating alternative for what should be a special event? It’s like one company made the game and another company is handling this event.

You might want to rethink that, actually, because the issue here is LUCK. And luck is a bit of an equalizer between rich and poor. While it is true that the ‘rich’ can sway the odds a bit in their favor, many of the complaints here on the forum come from the ‘rich’ who thought that they could brute force luck and failed. And as you can see, they are very, very angry about it because the rich are not used to being told “NO”.

Really? People can’t complain about buyers remorse without it degrading into posts that sound like an essay on marxism? Talk about over-thinking this stuff.

If you don’t like a dish at a restaurant, then the thing to do is not to order it in the future. Not making a big public scene in an effort to get them to take it off the menu and prevent everyone else from being able to enjoy it in the future.

I disagree. If you think it truly sucks, you let them know and don’t order it in the future. If enough people feel the same way, they know not to waste a good impression on would-be future customers (and you often get a free different meal, but that’s besides the point).

As for making a scene in public… this is an internet forum for feedback on the event. This is where this kinda stuff is supposed to go.

2. There are always at least to views present about everything. And your view isn’t always the correct one.

Here’s the dealio: I get why everyone is super upset, it was poor advertising, we get it. Are people honestly mad that they didn’t get a skin? Or are you mad that you wanted to cash in on a quick way to make a few gold in game?

I was upset because because I didn’t get any skins/what I did get for real cash was entirely lacking. Just figured I’d chime in with the other people that felt the same way and warn any potential like-minded buyers.

IMO, what turned this into a real kittenstorm is the people coming in and in so many ways inferring that the people who paid X and expected Y were all morons. Very few posts have been people demanding their money back… it’s mostly just people logging a complaint. Then threads spin out of control when trolls and misguided fanbois try to marginalize these complaints and arguing ensues.

I’ve heard of people having more luck with dropped keys than bought keys, but who knows? I’d imagine the price will fluctuate a bit until the end of the event… then the longer you wait, the more it will be worth. The gamble is whether or not they end up doing something in the other phases that makes them more common (unlikely, but who knows). So I’d say either sell it now or wait as long as you can. Vanity items - is it really what people want ?

in Halloween Event

Kolache.3964

Vanity items serve only one purpose: show others what you can afford.

I disagree with that completely. While it may be the motivation for others, (I don’t presume to know why people do what they do), it is not my motivation. I’d guess that most people look at my character about as much as I look at their character, which is just enough to tell what race they are if that. My main is currently an asura, and I seriously doubt most people check to see which pistol model I have in my hand.

I like cool skins on my character because I like looking at it, not because I think about all the other people looking at it. I would be just as inclined reskin items in Skyrim. The amount of money I spent on keys really had nothing to do with anticipating that I would get something more rare than the next guy. I was simply excited by the halloween BLC advertisement and decided to drop $50 to open a bunch of halloween goodies… which turned out to not have any halloween items at all.

It’s simple. Halloween advertisement. Buy stuff for halloween. Expect stuff for halloween.

Please name any, just any ONE MMO, that has made their festival gear as RARE as end game raid loot before you come back with “it’s a gamble, you should know better.” Any experienced MMO players have never been subjected to festival stuff (especially skins with no stats) that has been treated as raid level rarity. So of course many were taken off guard by this (just for the record, I wasn’t one of them). I feel for them. Some human beings still have empathy in this world – apparently a lot of other don’t.

Exactly. Some people seem to think it should have been obvious that these cash shop skins would be as rare as exotic gear, but I can’t see why.

If they added 9 skins to the 20 regular drops from a BLC you’d have a ~30% chance of getting any skin, and 3% chance of getting the exact skin you wanted. People would end up trading for the stuff they wanted and halloween stuff would become even more rare over time… like in every other MMO. Why exactly is that a scenario that seems to far fetched to some? So it didn’t work out that way, but how can people pretend to be so certain that it had to go down the way it did?

I know it’s a silly question when its obvious the average internet forum troll just wants to stir up kitten.

Heads up folks, MMOs are about grinding.
. . .
The cosmetic approach, the approach for all to have fun and be equal feels like it will be the downfall of this game after a few months of everyone doing the same things.

MMOs are “about” whatever you make them about. If one person is entertained by logging in and running circles around LA every day, that’s not really any of your concern. If you decide to quit an MMO because it doesn’t offer what is important to you, that really has no more significance than simply ‘what is important to you.’
