This has been an odd question to me for a while now. I play a PU mesmer which seems to turn most ideas about the class on its head. It’s not squishy (providing I’m not asleep) and it seems really easy to play. Perhaps since I’ve been only pvping with this class for so long I’m just hesitant about branching out. Honestly, it seems so easy I have a hard time telling if I’m actually decent or if it’s just the build.
Pretty much every fight is just enter with staff clones and pretend to be a clone until I’m either found out or ready to summon another set, then shatter and start playing hard to get. Things get hairy, I can almost always stealth and leave them in a pile of clones looking for the real thing. It all feels really simple, especially compared to say… a very well played thief. Am I missing something that makes it tough?
Also, someone mentioned PU mesmer not doing well without a good team. Someone mind elaborating? Trying to learn all I can.

Shield main hand weapon. Duel shield class ftw.
Probably best to see how it all plays out. It only takes one decent skill to completely change the way a class can be played.
Clones are never really meant to be your personal tanks. More than anything they’re a resource. If you want them doing more damage, I suggest using staff clones for condition damage. Or… just make them and shatter them like crazy. While they’ll never be more than a distraction when it comes to taking hits for you, they make for very nice butterfly explosions.
Thanks for the response. Looked through other posts on pvp forums and learned a bit more. Using that and your answer I got a much better idea of how it works. Didn’t have much time to test it out, but in the few matches I’ve done since posting I no longer waited around for points to be captured. I’m not getting as many points as before, but… I’m on the winning team more. Now maybe it’s just luck or a change to build, but pretty sure this letting one person capture once enemies are gone is helping a lot. Thanks again.
What if capping only awarded the first person to stand on it? Or what if points capped faster with more people? (Probably not last one since it would encourage zergfests.) Kinda new, so just curious and trying to learn.
I’m fairly new to pvp. Recently I’ve been doing spvp quite a lot, but don’t really know how I’m doing. Quite often, when my team wins I am about mid to low in in points compared to everyone else. When my team loses, I often have the most points. Not always the case, but it seems this way pretty often. Does this mean anything? Are points even a good indicator?
