facepalm

I have just realised actually that I deleted an alt the other day with Abyss dye to make room for a new character. Managed to transmute his T3 cultural gear onto whites so I have the styles saved for another character, but totally didn’t realise about the dye.

Definite +1 for account bound Dye Return

Not that their feet are much prettier mind you.

I am in two minds about the suggestion.

Part of me thinks that it would lessen the aesthetic value of the rarer dyes. Instead of a rather chunky permanent investment for a character, it could become a relatively cheap temporary investment knowing that you could rebottle it and sell it back on tradehouse at no real loss of profit once you grew bored with the colour.

That said, the gem cost of obtaining a Dye Return Kit would probably make people think twice.

I think overall though, it would be a good idea if the returned dye was account bound. I have several characters that I no longer use that have all got Abyss dye, and I would have loved some kind of facility to transfer this colour to new characters without having to fork out or strike lucky with more bottles of Abyss.

I am never one to argue against the possibility of finding rare skins.

However, when it comes to giving people more reasons to fight the world bosses I don’t think it is really necessary at this point. The world bosses are pretty much always packed with players trying to get the daily chest at whatever time of the day, and turn into a lagfest that can end in the blink of an eye.

Good for you, I’ve also wasted money on a side project levelling a character 1-80 purely from crafting.

You don’t think that your suggestion would make levelling through crafting even easier, then this suggestion is redundant?

As you say skillpoints are abundant enough that you will get everything you need for a Legendary and more from map completion, then this suggestion is redundant?

I don’t think this discussion is going anywhere, but I predict neither is this suggestion.

At the moment, once you’ve got a Legendary, all professions at 80 and all crafting trades at 400, the scenario you outline is exactly what happens.
I do stack up materials, as I have nothing to spend them on.

Strikes me that your reasons for making this suggestion are beginning to make no sense whatsoever.

I am against it because I think it would make it far too easy to level a character to 80 by levelling one craft to 400 then making exotics from buying materials and reselling the finished product at no significant loss.

You have already said that you didn’t make this suggestion so that you could level alts quicker. You have also outlined how easy you think it is to get a character to 80 in one day from the current crafting system. So this suggestion is apparently redundant on a levelling front.

I am also against the suggestion as it could potentially be used and abused to farm thousands of skill points on a character and remove any effort whatsoever in collecting the skillpoints necessary to buy items like Bloodstone Shards for Legendaries.

You say there is little value to skill points once you have all of your utilities unlocked and Legendaries on all characters, and you’re probably right. But I don’t see how removing all of the effort prior to achieving these things is a good thing, and skill points are worthless to those that already have their utilities/Legendaries. So for those people, again this suggestion is redundant.

And Lodovicus:
Open to abuse? Really? If that’s the case, then are you saying the current method of levelling through crafting is an abuse of crafting?

No, that is not what I am saying, and I am a bit baffled as to how you arrived at that conclusion.

The crafting system as it is has a finite amount of XP that can be earnt through it, so cannot be abused.

If you introduced an element that allowed an infinite amount of XP to be earnt through crafting then yes that can be open to abuse unless (and I will put this in bold as I think this may be the third time I have said it, but you seem not to acknowledge it) the experience gains post 400 are singificantly lower than the XP you earnt crafting items in the 390-400 range.

Even if the experience gains were significantly lower, there is still the possibility for abuse if the cost of materials is ever equal to or less than the resale value of the items they can make. People could end up with multiple stacks of mats and just sit back whilst they queue up 250 after 250 of crafts and watch the skillpoints/levels rack up without losing any real money.

It sounds like you want to have your cake and eat~ it too with this suggestion. It seems to me you want crafting XP post-400 to supplement your collection of skillpoints, but only if the experience returns are the same as you see when you hit the final 300s of a craft. I personally think this is an unrealistic expectation.

Lodovicus.1562

Sorry but I don’t think it would potentially be more expensive than the current method.

If you want to spend money getting all 8 crafts from 1-400 for levelling, a lot of that money goes on resources to make stuff that has very little resale value at the lower tiers.

Tier 6 materials do cost a huge amount more than any other tier , but the items you can make with tier 6 mats sell well and you don’t make a great deal of loss once you sell them on. Get lucky with your buy orders and you might even make a profit on what you make.

So I don’t think you’d need heaps of gold to use a system like this, and I still think it is open to abuse unless it is only a token amount of XP that is awarded.

Well the underlying message I get from your posts is a pretty defensive one. A couple of people didn’t think your suggestion was a good one and you seem to have concluded that we think you suggested it as a quick way for you to level your alts.

I have already said that I agree on some experience gain for crafting past 400 to supplement earning skillpoints, just not as much as you seem to think.

There are plenty of different ways to get to 80, and it is already easy allowing even the most casual of players to level by doing whatever they want.

If you think adding another ridiculously easy option to that list and letting players reach 80 by levelling one craft to 400, buying up a stockpile of resources then sitting back as they hit the craft button then that is up to you.

I never played Guild Wars. But then again I don’t see how that is relevant here. This is Guild Wars 2, of course there is some work involved in reaching level 80 but they have added plenty of avenues to reach that target without making it seem like work. If you are so set against having to put any effort into levelling, why not make a new thread suggesting they do away with level altogether.

Lodovicus.1562

I agree, it would be nice if there was some token XP gain post 400 to help gain skillpoints. But it should be nowhere near, barely a fraction of, what you currently get for making items near level 400.

It is easy to get a character to level 80 if you have the resources, money and inclination to train almost all of the crafts to level 400.

But I don’t think that is a valid justification to make it significantly easier to reach 80 by levelling up one craft to 400 then just bash out the same items for huge chunks of xp.

It is not my intention to demonize it, these are just worries I have and I think the positive aspects it could bring are outweighed by the negative ways it can be used.

I think it is far easier for people to take one look at someones gear and kick them without exchanging a word. If people want to help others and these people want to be helped then it is a mutual exchange and they can link gear to one another.

Afraid I must throw in another vote against any kind of gear inspection, the only time I’d want it really is to find out what a piece of gear is with a style i like but I can ask for people to link me those pieces.

Not a big fan of people micromanaging other players, sure it will save time for party leaders inspecting gear on CoF farming but they can always ask people to link gear and generally remove people that refuse to.

My worry is thakitten would be the thin end of a fat wedge, with people getting kicked from other dungeon groups when they have perfectly acceptable gear but not of all it perhaps oranges or the right kind of upgrades etc.

Unless they made the XP gain significantly lower post 400, I would have to say I think this would be a very bad idea.

The xp gains that you get from crafting from 300-400 are pretty huge, and I don’t agree that the cost of tier 6 materials are prohibitive enough to stop people levelling one craft to 400 and then being able to hit 80 in a matter of minutes if they have collected (or have enough gold to buy) a decent stack of materials.

I think anyone that thinks events in Divinity’s Reach are a good idea would agree that events in all of the capitals would be great to help bring them to life.

After all the races each have a racial enemy, it would be interesting to see them make a nuisance of themselves in the capitals rather than just in pockets throughout the maps away from the cities.

Asura- Inquest
Sylvari – Nightmare Court
Norn – Svanir
Charr – Flame Legion
Human – …been a while since I made a human, Centaur is it?

With regards to Divinity’s Reach, I can’t help but think it would be pretty cool if the Great Collapse somehow unearthed some huge underground warren of Skritt living in the sewers beneath the city that now pop up to make mischief in the capital

[EDIT] Just realised there seem to be two types of Risen Acolytes in Orr (not sure if it is a male and female version, hard to tell with these dead people). There is one in dark clothing, and one in lighter clothing. It is the ones in lighter clothing that seem to have the very large detection radius. [/EDIT]

But then again I think, how is this any different to other classes asking for a third weapon slot that they can swap to out of combat instead of having to open their inventory and replace one of their weapon sets.

e.g. A warrior running Greatsword for melee fights, has something and a warhorn in his second weapon slot for mobility, maybe he wants a third weapon slot for a ranged weapon that he wants to equip in WvW if he comes across a massive aoe fest he doesn’t want to jump straight into.

Dungeon token conversion/exchange

Lodovicus.1562

@Lodovicus,
You bring up good points. Unfortunately, no matter how much dungeons get tweaked and balanced in terms of effort/reward, people will always find the easiest one in the end and grind it forever while ignoring others, just like with CoF now. Nothing will change much unless some drastic improvement is implemented such as cross-server LFG or dungeon and loot revamp. The only people who will do less popular dungeons will be the same niche players.

I agree with you there, no amount of tweaking will stop people gravitating towards the quickest dungeon to farm. Although in the case of CoF path 1 there are quite a few things they can change to stop it from being so much faster to complete than any other dungeon path.

Personally I feel the way forward is to give players more incentive to run the less popular dungeons rather than giving them the option to get the gear without having to do them at all.

Perhaps if each dungeon path (or completing all three) rewarded a daily account bonus chest like the world events more people would be persuaded to step out of CoF for a bit.

Or instead of the dungeon completion daily task which gives you the option to do any dungeon. maybe a Daily Dungeon task with a different dungeon each day that counts towards daily achievements and rewards a bonus loot chest.

Having earnt all the gear I wanted from the other dungeons, I am guilty of falling in with the CoF farming crowd myself. However, if there was a daily dungeon-specific task and a bonus chest to be earnt, the completionist in me would be persuaded to run the dungeons I no longer needed.

Lodovicus.1562

In my opinion I don’t think this a solution to the problem, and there is every chance it will just exacerbate the problem.

The problem with dungeon popularity is that some dungeons are either harder, longer or give armour sets with undesirable stat combinations on them for some players/classes.

With CoF being regularly farmed for gold, allowing people to buy other dungeon sets with tokens as a by-product of this farming is only going to make things worse and make it even harder to find a group to any of the other dungeons.

The solution is to address what makes one dungeon blatently more profitable than any other, rather than giving people the option to avoid other dungeons altogether in favour of whichever is quickest.

The loading screens for Rata Sum and Caithe’s home for instance. They look as though they could well be early concept work, as the figures in them look pretty far removed from how the races look in the final game.

Anet still has some brilliant artists on board, not a major thing but maybe they would think about updating some of the loading screens to some more recent artwork.

I think there are better ways to improve your gameplay, like reading guides and suggestions from other players, testing them yourself and applying the techniques through practice.

I wouldn’t be in favour of party statistics, not because I am worried in any way that my “DPS is too low”, but in my opinion from past experience player statistics breeds selfish people more interested in chasing numbers rather than making decisions that are more beneficial in a group situation.

e.g.

Player A goes down.

Player B is in the best position to rez player A.

Player B decides to ignore player A because player A has nearly caught up with Player B’s DPS output.

Ah well, let Player C, D or E get him. They’ll be losing out on DPS too whilst they rez him.

I can understand the frustration of not being able to complete achievements in your log, I have a fair few myself, but the way I see it the achievements and any associated rewards are a way of rewarding loyalty for those players that have been around for a long time.

Hello,

Got a question about transmuting Cultural Gear to unbound white gear and being able to sell it on trade post.

I have a character of a race that I don’t particularly enjoy any more and, in the absence of any way to change race at the moment, was thinking of deleting him and rerolling the same class of a different race.

This old character has a fair few T3 Cultural armour pieces though, so I was wondering if anyone knew or has tried to transmute Cultural armour onto unbound white items to sell on the trade post?

Is it possible to put these items onto trade post? And do they retain the style you have transmuted onto them for others to see?

I am not so sure about people using lore as a reason not to allow race changes. If there is some official literature published by Anet that says that race changing is not, nor will ever, be possible in the realm of Tyria then fair enough.

If it is a case of the lore not saying one way or another whether the ability to change race is possible, then that is a different matter entirely.

We already have a wealth of tonics out there that change appearance, albeit temporarily, and a Total Makeover Kit that allows for gender reassignment, so I’m sure some Asura technology or magic oojimaflip that permanently changes race is not too much of a stretch of the imagination.

Was just about to come to the forums to enquire about the possibility of a race change any time in the future, so I’ll stick to this thread

I have an elementalist that I have completely gone off playing as I have fallen in love with Charr over Asura. I realise it is easy enough to roll a new toon (provided you have the space) but I have previously invested a lot of time in this Asura in terms of WvW, gear, karma, skillpoints etc and would gladly pay for a service that allowed me to convert him to a new race.

Heck I’d even pay for that and a name change so it was something more suitably Charr.

I realise there are difficulties with regards to personal story and cultural gear, but I wouldn’t bat an eyelid if being able to swap race meant I lost a personal storyline achievement and any cultural gear I was wearing became unuseable.

Not sure it is ever anything they will implement but fingers crossed

Hello

I recently rolled a Warrior and whilst levelling I have a warhorn slotted in my second weapon set so I can swap to it out of combat and get from A to B quicker with the Charge ability.

Not sure if this is specific to Warrior (although I can’t remember having a similar problem with Ele’s equivalent staff ability in the Lightning stance) but whenever I use the Charge ability it targets the nearest living thing in front of me so quite often I end up clipping some yellow creature with autoattack and being slowed down again.

It is nothing game breaking, just a bit of a nuisance.

Can’t think why the ability needs to target anything to be used, nor can I think of any balancing issues by removing it with regards to PvP/WvW.

I realise I could be completely wrong. Anyone else think the targetting should be removed from it?

Char swapping

The fact that a whole dungeon resets if the leader disconnects or relogs is a huge oversight.

Dungeons in this game are pretty dull as it is, so if you’ve got an alt you may as well have him benefitting from the xp chunk at the end. There is barely any incentive to run them as it is, so if they remove the ability to use them for levelling an alt you will end up with even fewer people wanting to run them.

So yeah I agree fix the dungeon reset if party leader disconnects, but a getting rid of the XP for alts? Not too sure how that would improve things.

I don’t find it much of a problem when people swap characters to capitalise on the chunk of XP at the end, the problem is that (like a lot of things in this game) the fact that dungeons reset when the party leader swaps character or disconnects is a huge oversight on Anet’s behalf.

Seems pretty daft that however many months down the line, Anet is busy making quaggan backpacks and dull living story events rather than resolving obvious design flaws like this.

Of course there is skill involved in playing WvW, but you can be the most skillful player in the game and you’re still not getting map completion unless your server is capable of taking enemy keeps in EB.

In hindsight yeah I probably should have used the free transfers whilst I had the chance, but that is not helpful now nor for future alts. As it stands you can pour a lot of time into achieving 99% map completion but then you are at the mercy of luck when it comes to WvW reset or the collective skill of your server to capture the home keeps in EB, which frankly never happens on our server.
