RNG chest items are not fun

in Blood and Madness

Posted by: Lodovicus.1562

Lodovicus.1562

As others have pointed out, placing the weapons inside the RNG chests is a way for Anet to make profit.

Is it annoying? Sure, I like the look of some of the new Halloween skins so they’d be nice to have, but they are not items that I need to progress in the game and I won’t lose sleep over other people getting them and me going without.

If people are prepared to spend real life cash trying to get hold of these cosmetic skins then I say fair play to them, and even thank them. It is their money that is going towards the development of the game and the release of content that I can enjoy for free.

Otherwise, players will insta level that Tengu or Quaggan, or whatever new races come out with any new expansion.

Despite what their current position is on the subject, I’d be willing to put money on them releasing some form of race change item in the gemstore to coincide with any new races that were added to the game.

Clock Tower - Tribulation Mode

Lodovicus.1562

They could make different tiers of the Clocktower by increasing the size of the tower in each tier and making the jumps on these new portions even trickier.

So where the original Clocktower ended, this is just halfway through the puzzle and the top is actually much higher up now.

More waiting for those that fail? Sure, but that sounds pretty reasonable for the frustration that most of the other deliberately more difficult content induces.

Mad King's Clock Tower.... Changes

Lodovicus.1562

I am wondering if the majority of the player-base will find the Mad King’s Clocktower as difficult as they did this same time last year?

In the heady days of the game’s launch, myself and I imagine many others were spending those first weeks before halloween levelling characters and enjoying all of the other content in the game whilst it was still fresh. With the exception of the harder to reach vistas, I hadn’t really experienced many jumping puzzles. I certainly hadn’t worked my way through each of the jumping puzzles in the game for the achievements, so the Mad King’s Clocktower was my first real experience of a jumping puzzle.

With all the other hellish jumping puzzles that have been trampled on and released since then, surely we’re all going to be dab hands at the Clocktower now?

Thanks :)

(try fighting the clockheart when half of the floor is still electrified :>),

Is the electrified floor persisting after boss has been hit with a hologram? If so I’ve yet to experience that bug, but it certainly sounds a pain!

My only gripe with the encounter at the moment is the generaters, glitching on them and getting ported facing a different direction when you’re trying to get around the room or dodge near them.

Did have an incident where two holograms were spawning at once, but I’m hoping that one doesn’t get fixed as it was pretty helpful

I cannot confirm whether this is true or not, but I certainly experienced something similar today.

Definitely felt like some frenzy timer had kicked in.

I’ve got no objection to free stuff, and some of the back items have really completed the look of some of my characters. but I wish the event items would not always focus on head/shoulders/back and the occasional glove.

I realise it would take more effort to create for the three different armour types, but I would really like to see more event items for feet, legs and chest.

Must admit I can’t remember a great deal about the personal story as it has been a long time since I played it, but the missions to help one of the lesser races was only bringing isolated communities of Grawl/Hylek/Skritt etc into the fold as allies rather than the entire race showing up to help?

Either way there is an interesting paradox popping up with these discussions about Tengu and the lesser races.

At release, Tengu were not prepared to align themselves, but the general concensus is that a year down the line they could be introduced as they decide they do indeed want to help.

For the Lesser Races however, because they are tied into the personal stories they are stuck in a kind of stasis where their attitudes and alignments won’t shift despite a year of gametime passing. Its tricky, but I would personally like to see how the Lesser races have changed after pledging their allegiance and fighting Zhaitan. Are they still considered lesser?

Posted by: Lodovicus.1562

Lodovicus.1562

I feel Anet has not improved on the design since it’s release.

I can’t entirely agree with that. There have been some player-friendly improvements such as allowing people to enter Fractals higher than their personal level and groups no longer needing to be on the same server/overflow before they could join, but these things are nothing to write home about (as they should have been there at release) and there is a lot of work to be done.

For a game that is supposed to have built upon and improved systems used in other MMORPGs, it seems a pretty backward step that a party leader leaving/disconnecting resets the whole dungeon rather than leadership simply passing to another member like countless other games.

A couple of times in the last few days I have been part of groups where come the second or third Fractal, the party leader decides to take massive AFK spells without any warning, expecting the rest to 4-man and carry him to the end whilst he does god knows what else. Both times the group has jointly decided to kick the party leader and reset the instance themselves rather than A) struggling the rest of the way 4-manning it or B.) leaving the party only for the party leader to invite a few more people to finish the place for him.

I agree that jump is horrendous on a large character. Had a nightmare of a time with jumping puzzles when I started playing charr instead of Asura, not only because of strange camera angles but also trying to judge when I am right at the edge of a platform with the charr run animation.

That said, I don’t think they need to change this jumping puzzle. Yes it is harder for larger characters but not impossible, and besides us fatties will probably get our own back again when the Mad King’s Clocktower returns!

You only needed to complete 12 jumping puzzles for the monthly, and there are plenty of others to choose from besides this one. If players are deadset on completing this one, then it is in a neutral zone and easily accessible by even a newly rolled midget character.

On a side note if you ever find yourself pressed for time for monthlies again, a good way to power through the salvage one is just to place buy orders on a load of white salvageable junk (e.g. Torn Rag) and then stick whatever you salvage back onto the tradepost. You won’t lose any gold, might even make a small profit in the process.

In Ultima Online we didn’t need no arbitraty dice rolls, as we had tools to resolve disputes with in-game methods. Incidentally, nothing beats UO when it comes to MMO roleplaying in my books.

+1 to that! I loved the lack of levels in that game, was never immediately apparent how “strong” another person was so there was always a level of realism and danger when you got into an argument with someone.

As for the roleplay server, I think if they were going to introduce them it should have been at the launch of the game. The roleplaying community around the globe have taken it upon themselves to gather on their own unofficially designated roleplay servers, and if official roleplay servers were launched at this late stage it would actually be quite detrimental in terms of fracturing the communities imo.

Would be great to see this implemented as a system. All of the titles earnt from event metas are useable by any character, so why not the skins as well?

It is a pain in the backside not being able to slot some of the items because it will make them soulbound rather than account bound and I never know if I would prefer them on another character in future.

Most of the items can be transmuted onto whites to make them account bound then transmuted onto items with stats for other characters etc etc and sure Anet you might lose a little bit of money on people not buying transmutation stones to do this… but I think that is a small price to pay to make a lot of people happier with their rewards.

I think there are a multitude of ways (classes/builds) to gain this achievement on Subject 7.

I personally did it with a minion master Necromancer without any issue.

The Subject 7 nerf only reduced the amount of coin he dropped in each bag to counter the farming that was going on, the mechanics have not changed in any way so he can still be used to gain the achievement as before.

According to the patch notes:

Changed the mechanics of Deadeye Dunwell’s boss fight to reduce farming efficiency

In light of the fact I was critical of the last patch notes for their euphemistic wording re the Subject 7 nerf, I should probably say kudos for telling it how it is this time round with the Deadeye nerf.

I respect what the developers are trying to achieve with these challenges, and I do really enjoy the Gauntlet, but testers really need to test more thoroughly in future whether there is the potential for one class or build to farm an event beyond what is expected.

It should be obvious to anyone capable of thinking for themselves that this “adjustment” was a nerf. A reduction is still an adjustment, so there’s absolutely no logical reason reason to be upset about their word choice.

A reduction is an adjustment. An increase is an adjustment. Replacing silver coins with Honey Nut Cheerios is an adjustment.

“Adjustment” is still ambiguous and sugar-coating.

Liadri vs warrior

in Queen's Jubilee

Posted by: Lodovicus.1562

Lodovicus.1562

I used a very similar build to the OP, but I had Shake It Off slotted instead of FGJ so I could try to remove her cripple once in a while in Phase 2 without having to place Signet of Stamina on cd to remove conditions.

Signet of Rage I found very useful in Phase 2 mostly because of the 30 seconds of Swiftness it gave me. Getting between the safe zones with melee was easy because of the passive speed buff I have traited and GS 3 ability, but Signet of Rage helped prevent me lagging behind when I was using a ranged weapon.

[EDIT] Also the fight gets a heck of a lot easier to plan once you are familiar with the pattern that the AOE falls (which is always the same).

If you think of the area as a compass, in phase 2 the AOE falls North-South and then West-East, so the safe zones appear where the AOE last fell.

Liadri Question

in Queen's Jubilee

Posted by: Lodovicus.1562

Lodovicus.1562

I think it would be incredibly difficult, but I wouldn’t say impossible. I have only killed her with my berserker warrior, and spent my time swapping equally between greatsword and rifle. I’d use my greatsword to either:

- Kill orbs as they seemed immune to all rifle skills apart from number 5.

- Use whirlwind attack to zoom to the next safe zone if I was out of endurance or falling behind on my strafing thanks to her cripple.

- Use whirlwind attack to evade past packs of her minions.

During those times I had my greatsword out I’d either be using ability 4 to slow down the mobs, or wildly smacking ability 1 to catch her when she got within range whilst I was strafing. Got quite a lot of damage on her this way with Greatsword, but the lions share was dealt with rifle.

Sticking on endure pain and finishing her with Hundred Blades was more than satisfying though.

There is obviously a demand for this feature, and people willing to pay money for it. It isn’t difficult to implement and, although there may not be any current plans, Anet are inevitably going to add this feature to the game to turn a few bucks. They are a business after all.

If people want to pay for this then fair enough. It just sends more money Anet’s way to work on other stuff.
