What keeps scepter from being a go-to weapon?

in Elementalist

LordSlack.4685

PvE scepter is pretty great if you use elementals. I like using both glyphs of elementals with 20% cooldown on glyphs trait from air, and constantly keep an earth ele up who will tank for you all day, allowing you to dragon tooth mobs consistently without taking any damage. It works well when you turn your ele into a pet class. It is a different playstyle than diving right in with a dagger main, but you can still remain close for off-hand dagger skills and get your ring of fire combos without being touched most of the time.

During The 20 seconds might be waiting for your elemental glyphs to recharge, you can easily face tank any mob without being touched due to your burst and having 2 blinds. I take far less damage using S/D than D/D even when using earth elementals as tanks, you just have to preplan attacks a bit more since D/D is all on the fly.

I agree. I’m kindof a silly gamer and I like to buy pink rainbow crap for my characters because I don’t take things too seriously. I’d buy some weird stuff off there in a heartbeat, but the Quaggan backpack alone doesn’t pair well enough with anything to buy it.

Who are the Daily Achievements intended for?

LordSlack.4685

I am a casual player who used to complete the daily every day just through playing, but maybe 20 minutes of focus just to round it out.

Maybe it will get better, but the new choices I am presented with are definitely harder. The very 1st thing I thought of when I heard about the new system was “Hooray, no more aquatic slayer!” I ended up having to pick that one yesterday because I don’t know where this keg brawler thing is, I’d rather concentrate on leveling than pvp at the moment, I don’t want to backtrack towards Downleveled events (this is probably the worst idea for a daily) etc. I’ve never used the mystic forge but I might learn how now, though I’d rather keep the gold.

I gotta question the sidekicked events option again. I am leveling right along with the levels of the hearts and my personal story all at once, the game has really nice pacing for leveling and I always have something to do at my level. Why would I want to head to an old zone or run around in the area I just cleared an hour ago looking for events that I already did?

Can you plan what you steal?

LordSlack.4685

Hello all. I am new to thief and have to say playing one at low levels is probably the most challenging character in GW2. I’m finding it hard to stick with it, but I’m not done yet, so I turn here for answers to burning questions I get as I play.

As the topic says, is it possible to know what item you are going to get when you use steal, be it mobs or other players? I know that different mobs give different items, is the same true for a player’s class? Basically, is there a reliable way to know what I am going to end up with in my hand if I decide to steal against a mesmer instead of a warrior? This would be useful to plan engagements around.

Again I’m only level 15 so I dare not head to WvW yet, but I’d like to know what I might be getting into so I can learn the class better.

Also it looks like you are concerned about low damage to start. It sortof feels that way to start but as I mention above, churning earth is my favorite skill ever, so land that whenever possible and you’ll be doing crazy amounts of damage.

To squeeze more damage out, try to utilize combo fields. When going D/D, Use Fire 4 for the ring of fire, then trigger Arcane Wave in it and it will count as a combo finisher, granting you might for more damage. You can then quickly switch to earth and use earthquake then churning earth for 2 more combo finishers, and even more stacks of might. All of this is available right out of the gate at low level, so try to use your blast finishers in your fire fields for a damage boost.

Play him to level 15 so you can put 5 points in water. Water gives you vitality which is really helpful at low level because you are squishy with zero health pool, so all the health you can get the better. Also 5 points in water regenerates health when you are attuned to water, so you’ll notice you can take an extra hit or two which usually lets you kill a mob or escape in time, where you were just downed before. At level 20 if you get more comfortable, you can respec and put your 10 points into Arcane and choose the talent that grants boons when you switch attunements. Just switchign to water will heal you, and just switching to earth will reduce damage by 33% for a few seconds. All of it adds up and you start to realize you can survive much better than before.

Also get Arcane Shield for a skill point. I use it offensively by running right into a pack of monsters, popping it and then charging up a Churning Earth if you are using dagger off-hand. Mobs won’t touch you while you sit in the middle and churning earth alone will kill everything it hits.

Don’t get discouraged, without any talent points and very few skill points so far, you can’t really defend yourself, but you’ll notice a difference at level 15, then 20 and so on. Vitality is your friend more than toughness to start out.

Botting - Did I just witness it?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

LordSlack.4685

Was leveling last night and saw the strangest thing:

There were 4-5-6 rangers (hard to tell) all running together on top of each other with pets so it was a huge swarm, just zerging anything that moved in the zone. They were all following each other just inches apart and making the same mechanical movements in sync, attacking and destroying mobs in a second with their big pet swarm. They were using movement signets as well for added speed, and it looks like a botting speedrun type of deal.

I followed them for a minute or two because it was quite a sight, like a swarm of bees moving from mob to mob just cleaning house. It struck me as gold farming because they were all rangers and were moving as efficiently as possible, killing something, all characters loot, move on.

I am wondering if this is a type of known botting, where characters all follow eachother with pets and just wreak havoc.

There is another discussion going about multiple Pale Trees existing. If there is in fact a 2nd pale tree, as the wiki and some lore would dictate, why are these Sylvari also in human form (Malyck) if their tree was not planted by a human on a human grave? This leads me to believe they are just naturally humanoid.

No problems with fire grab, but what I did notice on lightning whip is i get significantly more misses when i camera is aiming down rather than forward. If I am not targeting something and have the camera face down, I can miss 100% of the time on a guy immediately in front of me, but when I tilt the camera back to face him, I start doing damage. When an enemy is targeted, it still misses a lot, but I got in the habit of aiming my lightning whip FPS style at my melee opponents for the best results.

The animation on lightning Whip doesn’t change if you are aiming the camera up or down, but test this with a fireball on the staff. You can shoot them up in the air or straight at the ground if you aren’t targeting. I believe the whip does this too so it always misses.

Unused portions of zones?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: LordSlack.4685

LordSlack.4685

So basically, these parts of the zone ARE being used for something, it’s just likely between events? That is pretty much what I assumed, that or personal storyline missions, but I couldn’t imagine they’d include so much map for one specific character path, then do that for each path, makes no sense.

Is there ever anything going on in these areas besides events? Ever a hidden chest or some loot at the top of a tower you can jump up? I don’t mind exploring but doing unnecessary platforming isn’t really great for me so I don’t go out of my way to platform to the top of places just to see the view.

Unused portions of zones?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

LordSlack.4685

Hello, I’m a fairly new player, been playing about a month. I have 5 characters all under level 30 because I’m just enjoying the differences in races, starter zones, personal storylines etc.

What I’ve noticed throughout each zone I’ve been to so far (probably 8 zones) is that there are portions of the map that are seemingly unused. There might be a swamp or some cool looking canyon that has no Heart quest, POI, viewpoint, or anything to do in it. I usually go explore the area anyways just to see it, but I run through it and that’s it, nothing to actually do there and no reason to stay.

I am wondering if these areas of zones are there for somebody’s personal storyline or what, but I sort of wish there was at least a point of interest in this unique piece of the map to check off. It seems like a lot of work has gone into the fantastic level design, and I love everything about the zones I’ve been through, so I kind of feel bad for the level designer who made a swamp that most people probably skip over because there is nothing directing players through it. Anybody else feel similar?

Finishing your dailies for Laurels.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

LordSlack.4685

OK sounds like you’re looking for some casual player input, which I consider myself to be. I’m the type pf player who has 5 characters under level 30 because I like playing all the classes and enjoying the noob zones before settling on a main and an alt to work towards 80 with. Anyways, I log in, check what the daily requirements are, then just sortof keep those in mind as I do my normal questing and leveling. 9 times out of 10, everything in there naturally completes itself except sometimes healing, which is easy to do as long as you know it is required today, and crafting which requires a 2 minute pitstop in town.

With my personal playstyle – the casual leveler – the dailies complete themselves so I do not feel that they become my entire experience while online. I actually love that they are there because I am being rewarded for doing the same things I would normally be doing organically. Doing all the events, gathering, dodging etc. I’d say without focusing on them, they do themselves in about 2 hours over the course of a relaxed leveling session without even looking at the daily progress.

Also if it takes 30 dailies for an ascended something, which I couldn’t use until 80, It is going to take me longer than that to even hit 80 so I’ll be ready to go once I get there. I have no need to spend these laurels at all so they’ll just build up in the background and I’ll get some sweet grind-free gear.

Transform:Tornado

in Elementalist

Posted by: LordSlack.4685

LordSlack.4685

Tornado is classified as transform which does not exist such a class in the game. The classification is there so traits work them. So Devs once invented a class like transform and changed it to be something else maybe cantrip or else.

So why “transform” still exist? it has been 6 months.

My opinion is change it to be cantrip.

Wtf are you talking about? Are you saying all those skills don’t exist? Btw, they are called “transform” because they… yeah, because they transform stuff. I know; that’s easy to miss, so I don’t blame you.

Also, changing it into a cantrip would make it kinda OP.

Woah this guy got pretty mad.

I think what he means is that according to that wiki link you sent, Elementalists only get 1 Transform skill so no matter what build you try to develop, Tornado just sits over there all by itself as a standalone skill. Cantrip wouldn’t be too bad, you could regen in tornado form which would make it feel slightly more elite than it is, since you’re a sitting duck.

Do mobs not scale in difficulty..

LordSlack.4685

I remember what you’re talking about. As far as I know, I think just the number of mobs increase with more players involved. If there are waves of enemies or something and I am solo, I notice there are 3-4. If I do the same event and there are a dozen people around, it feels like there is a lot more to kill. Might just be me but I feel like there is some scaling going on somewhere.

Elementalist Switching Weapons

in Elementalist

LordSlack.4685

I read this suggestion in another thread and think it is a great idea that could fit here:

Instead of switching weapons to one of our other sets, they could fine tune the Conjure Weapons skills to be “equipped” in a weapon switching slot. You use a utility slot for it, conjure it, then are free to weapon swap between it and your standard weapons same as any other class that gets weapon switching. Weapon would still use charges to attack and only have the default 5 skills available to it.

Ice Sculpture – Creates a sculpture of ice in front of the player that lasts 10 seconds and acts as a decoy. If the sculpture is destroyed, enemies become chilled in a 360 radius and friendly players in the area are healed. Sculpture resembles Logan Thackery. 30 second CD.

I’d just love to see you summon a block if ice and slice and dice it into a Logan Thackery sculpture with the sword.

Play however you want to play. If 100% fire is more fun, then play 100% fire. It’s your game, and your experience. You might be enjoying the challenge of it. If it gets too hard, maybe you pick 1 other attunement to swap with as if you were any other class just swapping weapon sets.

Also taking people’s advice in Map Chat is a bad idea no matter what game you are playing. Don’t quit, I’m sure the joker that badmouthed you has already completely forgotten about it and is heckling other players already.

Should i roll ellie?

in Elementalist

Posted by: LordSlack.4685

LordSlack.4685

I just rolled an ele looking for an alt I want to stick with, and I love it so far. It is definitely not boring to level as almost every pve encounter so far is different (there is a large learning curve and I just make up rotations depending on what attunement I am in) mostly because one weapons set gives you 20 skills instead of 5. I agree with what other people have said in that you really have to work for it as you play, lots of attunement swapping and constant action. you ALWAYS have a skill to use and are never waiting on cooldowns for anything.

It is a great Active class, I guess would summarize my first impressions.

Warrior weapons

in Warrior

Posted by: LordSlack.4685

LordSlack.4685

I have a level 20 and am always switching weapons around depending on what the newest, highest level weapon I come across. The stereotype is greatsword and rifle, and for good reason because it has decent mobility, very high damage, and lots of survivability (switch to range if things get hot). I’ll still swap to axe/axe because it is just plain fun and the auto attack is amazing, plus offhand axe’s whirlwind is great for tagging large groups of enemies to get credit for all the kills during events. Also with axe offhand, you can dodge while whirlwinding and not take damage, it does not interrupt your spinning death machine.

I still use axe/warhorn sometimes when I want to sprint and feel like a skirmisher vs lesser armored or more mobile enemies who want to run from you or use ranged, but if you are using banner of defense, you can use it’s sprint ability right before you set it down for a fight and replace your odd hand with a mace for an AoE knockdown.

Basically use whatever your best upgrade is at the time, all of warrior’s weapons do great damage.
