While I appreciate a response, what I don’t understand is why he feels that there is a stat gap between exotic and legendary that needs bridging.
There is no stat gap at all, let alone one that needs bridging.
There is an effort gap, but as long as the only difference is a skin and “prestige” there is no issue.
It’s only by instituting a stat gap with this update that there would ever be a need to bridge it.
What I’m reading by the dev response, is a solution to a problem that only exists by implementing this solution…. They are in essence creating the problem, then implementing a half-fix simultaneously.

I think you’re missing the point. It’s not a stat gap they are referring to. It’s the gap between earning exotics, which is incredibly easy to do (I got my full set of armour, and my weapons in less than 3 days after hitting 80) and getting a Legendary (which most players aren’t even close to acquiring)
Ascended Items fill the gap in item acquisition between Legendary and Exotic. It’s not stats they are talking about.
You still don’t get it – they are adding more powerful armor & weapons – that and only that is true (creating a gear treadmill).
They are buffing legendary to be on the same level of ascended moving forward. Legendary was just a cosmetic look and that’s about it. It’s not meant to be something the general population obtain (hence: Legendary).

You are preaching to the choir sister. They are backtracking now and making core changes to this game that are against their original design. I just don’t get it.
If this goes live, I’ll just go back to playing Rift – they just released a new expansion, and if I feel like doing some gear tread milling I’ll do it in a game that does it well. The biggest selling factor on this game (imo) was the complete balance of power at end-game!! This is what GW is about.
This is a huge mistake by a-net and I hope they realize it before it goes live.
I cant see them retracting it all…thats alot of PR money, video production, programming…millions they would have to swallow with nothing to show for it except forum posts. Im not being negative, I just can not see them doing that from a business standpoint. They made a decision based on numbers, they are going to move forward with it.
No one is asking them to retract the patch – let Lost Shores go live – there is tons of great content there that people are excited about. Change the Ascended gear to either a) be out of the game entirely & add another way to get infusions or b) make them the same stats as Exotic Gear

Anet need to release some details that are concrete and this thread can be put to sleep. Currently there are thousands of players commenting on something that they think will happen.
And that’s fair enough, as the details are far from refined. It’s very easy to read the blogs and then see what you want to see. It’s too ambiguous and frankly Anet need to sort it out. The forums are not a nice place to be at the moment.
How much more can they spell it out? They showed us gear progression items, they talked about the future changes. They talked about PVE gating via Infusions. What am I missing here? I see a lot of informed people who care about their game discussing it and not liking the direction it is going in.
I can tell you one thing – the amount of outcry shows ANET just how passionate their community is about the game and how they want it to thrive. This is a big misstep on their part if it goes live – a lot of voices will be silenced and when anger turns to resentment to disinterest then ANET will have a lot to worry about.
This is a common misconception. The STAT gap is minimal. The exotic item’s impossibility to have infusions and counter agony is huge. The new dungeon is the only place where agony is incflicted FOR NOW, but things will change.
They haven’t developed a whole new system to use it only in the fractals. We’ll see agony in many upcoming patches.
This. Even better – it won’t be agony, but it’ll work similarly, and you will need new infusions to counter it every time.
They did the same BS in Warhammer Online – look how well that turned out. One of the worst PVE experiences I’ve ever played.
The reason so many people are screaming & complaining now is that the patch is going to be released in one day now. If we don’t make our voice heard now, this game will be changed forever.
Now there are many gaming websites that are reporting this is a huge misstep by arena net and there is this feedback they are getting from this report. I only hope they listen and retract these changes before they go live.

There is so much wrong here that I don’t even know where to start. Do you honestly think that is the only new item in the game? Don’t you think there will be other “stat combinations” that don’t include Magic Find? Do you know that getting a “pre-legendary” has absolutely nothing to do with Magic Find?

The thing that I find the funniest here is that all of this feedback from the community is based on speculation. Nobody has even seen anything other than a RING kitten
The fact there’s so much feedback when there’s nothing to go on but speculation shows how important this issue is.
Also the fact that this is LAUNCHING IN 2 kitten DAYS – you can understand why people are upset. The community that doesn’t want this included in the next patch needs to speak up now or never.
They were going to do this all along. That’s why it’s coming out before any cash shop expansion and without any real polling of the customer base. It has nothing to do with a lack of revenue or “customer feedback”. There’s no logic to those claims.

I’m sorry, I didn’t know I needed a reward to play a game. Playing the game is reward enough for me. As soon as it starts to feel like a grind, I will quit – just like I have many other MMOs in the past.
This sentence is what has me worried about the new gear.

Lost Shores fits IMO – it’s where they Lost a good chunk of their playerbase, or their mind.
I agree with you on the old dungeons – I still think there will be some interest, but without a Dungeon Finder, it’s going to be hard to find a group. Especially with dwindling server numbers. They needed to implement a cross-server Dungeon Finder like 2 months ago.
Rift’s expansion is coming out today, if I want to grind new gear I’ll probably go play that. The fact this game had no gear treadmill is WHY I play it.
Spectral Agony from GW1 required armor infusion to mitigate. It wasn’t a problem.

What’s this about Ascended set that prob won’t have toughness, vitality being better than the WvW set that has the stats that are useful for WvW (you know, survival). You all have fun with that Ascended gear that gives MF, crit, etc while I have WvW gear that mitigates dmg and gives me increased hp.
A bunch of whining in this thread. Don’t do the new dungeon if you don’t want to have to get the ascended gear.
Its so funny, people complain there’s now way to progress beyond what we have now, ANet gives it to us and they complain about that. If I don’t want to get ascended gear and run the new dungeon, I don’t have to and neither do you. I’m cool with having all crafted exotics and eventually working towards the mystic forge uniques (not legendarys). Skin progression is basically the same as gear stat progression. If you don’t care to get it, you can choose not to. Only the vain and elitist care for legendary skins and gear stat progression. This is the people that have legendaries – “Look at me, I have a rainbow bow, I am so pro, I am not going to tell you what weapon this is when asked and instead just waypoint away because you are inferior to me”. The people that play for stat progression are the same way – “You don’t have my level of gear, you’re inferior”.
You honestly think there won’t be different gear sets to complement different players… come on dude.
I’m sorry OP, 8% is a HUGE increase in this game. Especially when you are doing WvW – which this will be a game-changer in.
Again being forced to PVE to PVP is not fun.

The reason we are seeing so many knee-jerk reactions is that this is GOING LIVE IN 2 DAYS! If we can’t get ANET to make a change or delay the ascended items release, the ENTIRE game is going to change (and IMO for the worse based on the information they’ve provided thus far).
What happened was that Arena Net created this game thinking it would take far more time for the majority of their population to get to end-game – whereas in reality it took only a fraction of that time. I think they underestimated their player base and are scrambling now to add additional carrots to keep people playing.
Which is sad really, because THE ONE AND ONLY selling factor for me in this game was the hard-stop of gear progression once you hit the cap. I know a HUGE majority of people feel the same way. This was their manifesto, this is how they sold their game & this is how they misled their player base. If this was a subscription game, I would have already cancelled just based on this fact alone. Since it’s not, I’ll hurt them the only way I can.
I dont see how we can have much constructive feedback since we dont have much constructive information. “Slightly more powerful” you’re just opening a can of worms. why invoke drama? you know this would happen. just either remove or reword it to reflect what Infusion really is, its just a form of attunement as we had in GW1, it didnt make our gear more powerful, just able to not be 1 shotted by Mursaat who were made to 1 shot non-infused people. thats all it was. please stick to that. but this time, dont make it we have to do some silly 3 day questline to infuse every piece of my dungeon gear from every dungeon in game. thats just silly, and not fun. but like most people i’d prefer you kep the stat ceiling and just give us better skins.
Why even have the disparity between infused and non-infused though? Why include armor that is supposedly “slightly” more powerful than exotics. What people are complaining about is implementing an end-game gear grind to a game which was highly advertised as not having one. Which is completely justified given what we know now.
Either ArenaNet learned that the average player requires a carrot, unless it’s super hard to obtain, then it’s the hardcore players need something above the average player, or the speculation is just speculation.
This is exactly right IMO – they already hinted at changes to the Legendary system as the goals are so “unreachable” – now they add this nugget about Ascended armor. Knee-jerk reactions to people leaving the game due to no “end-game” progression.

There is definitely some skill there – I agree. I’m not trying to be harsh at all, just hate self-proclamation.
The boon removal is nice, but it takes a lot of time to set this up to hit accounting for lag and movement. In sPVP or WvW, I still try and use it, but it’s extremely difficult. I would love it got changed to on-target.

People that say the Holy Trinity is a mindless way to play are totally off base. Having played both Tank or Healer role for years & years I find it an insult to say that it was mindless. Tanks have one of the hardest jobs and Healers have the most thankless job there is.
When I first did AC Storymode I was ready to up and quit this game – there is such a HUGE learning curve for people coming from “normal” trinity games that the culture shock is too much for some to handle. If I was in Beta, my feedback would have been to really tune down the Storymode dungeons (especially early in the game) as they are meant to be a foray into what the game has to offer.
After some practice and learning encounters, I like it – I adapt and change – but there are a lot of people who won’t and will want what they are used to… I’ve already had two guild mates leave due to this (guess what, they were a tank + healer in other games) and I’m sure there are many others who have or will follow suit.
It’s far too obvious why it was brought in line – I could brainlessly keep close to 100% uptime with retaliation just using Aegis & Virtues – not even including weapon skills.
Now, I can still keep a fairly high %, but it’s not as easy to do.

As a heavy user of Staff #5, I can understand why they dropped the length. I use it all the time to close off choke points or as a constant interrupt on people (if you through it right on them as mentioned above).
Staff needs a buff in other areas, but 5 is nice. I would LOVE for Staff to be effected by 2H mastery.

Aegis: When you absolutely need Hammer Chain #3 to hit! Yes, it’s a slow cast time, but the symbol is worth it. Plus, as Polle says above, the low cooldown on #2 makes up for a lot.
In PVP, I’ve had my share of frustrations, but you work around it. Sometimes I’ll evade before Chain #3 – most of the time I’m moving outside of melee range and not sticking to my target as the Symbol has an ok radius (I use larger symbols, so it’s even better).
Great build! I run a shout build for group play, but I switch out traits to Meditations if I’m solo – I always try to keep Judge’s Intervention on my bar because it’s just too good to ignore!
As for the heal, I use Shelter as well for the block possibilities – you can chain that with Virtue of Courage – Renewed Focus – Virtue of Courage to have ~6s of immunity and multiple blocks (2 from Aegis alone). This gives you a lot of time to get some of your other skills off cool down, or wait for support if you’re getting overwhelmed.
Let’s start with what build are you using currently and what classes you are having issues against.
Voltric is correct – although I do think they should change it so Torch 4 applies the boon or fix the wording of it.
Really, it’s the durability that is the issue here. As others have pointed out, a stiff wind can kill these things.
My wishlist would be:
- Spirits cannot be damaged by AOE
- Increase HP
- Increase overall effectiveness (% of times buff activates)
- Allow them to move with you without being traited
Slasher, I use more utility pets in sPVP – I normally will start with a Spider for the immobilize so I can try and circle around my target for more damage. My secondary pet really varies from game to game, depending on what I’m facing.
