and I bet ANET also wonders why they struggle to get 1000 viewers for their tournaments.
This^ I love guild wars 2 and been playing since launch, but when I came back and heard they were still trying to push their pvp as an Esport with their lack of balancing, I cringed so hard.
It’ll be fine. Everything will get tested enough before release. As they have also stated is adjustments will continue even after HoT is live. Nothing is ever set in stone.
That’s true but no one wants to shell out $$$ for a expansion to have underwhelming content released when it goes live, totally defeats the purpose of alpha and beta testing. Nothing will be perfect of course but people want to feel good about their expansion purchases and have a good launch of the game.
You’re assuming that because the druid hasn’t been announced yet it will suck. On what logic are you connecting those facts into that conclusion?
considering Arena Net confirmed Heart of Thorns will launch in 2015, the longer they take to announce certain content, the less time we have to test them in Beta events and give our feedback.
The trend has been majority of the new elites and the new class rev have been very underwhelming and needs lots of changes ect, so people are worried the other content will follow the same trend but with less time to test/feedback.
Hi Everyone,
I started looking into the idea of precursors last night after about 6 years/2000+ hours of play and still not a single precursor. That is until last night.
So I got curious and started to look up how hard it is to get these. This thread is the only one I’ve found that seems to talk about this. My searches have not turned up any others so either the search function doesn’t work or this is the only thread that talked about it. I’ve been reading what everyone is saying and I figured I would throw in my experience to see if it might throw up another data point of how I got mine.
I am a WvW player most of the time. So I don’t do dungeons, I do story content and have 2 toons that mapped the world. But really my thing is EoTM to level toons, guild events, and EB and BLs to karma farm.
What made this drop interesting is this: I was in EB in a zerg and we charged another zerg near a tower. Playing one of my Elementalists I was able to AOE a bunch of enemy faction players. What made this attack interesting was one of the warriors was equipped with Twilight. You don’t miss a weapon like that.
In the heat of battle I probably hit him a few times as the waves went back and forth. It was a crazy long zerg battle. Then somehow the warrior with Twilight got separated from his allies and I saw him alone, very hurt, and nuked him with my elemental air attacks in sequence to take him all the way down. I got the kill AND the Dusk precursor.
I don’t believe in coincidences and I do absolutely believe luck was involved in getting the Dusk drop. But I find it extremely interesting I got it after killing a warrior wielding Twilight.
6 years? this game is barley 3 years old lol
Yeah I’m sick of condi builds in general, there is nothing competitive about them. Seems like they always had a problem balancing conditions in this game.
You would think with Arena net trying so hard to make their MMO a Esport they would focus on balancing blatantly broken mechanics like over tuned burns or cele stat only having 1 or 2 classes who can reap the benefits of like Eles.
Why are you guys comparing open sandbox games with housing to a game like gw2? It’s not that type of game. Guild halls is pretty and home instance is pretty much all you’re going to get with this type of game.
This is not a sandbox game…..you’re not going to get sandbox features with this game engine.
Solo loot stick guardian is the best solo farmer in the game., nothing beats it. Ele 2nd best for solo pve farming.
You are asking about map completion and map pve farming solo correct?
http://metabattle.com/wiki/Build:Guardian_-_Staff_Farmer works even better after the June patch.
Melee is not very efficient solo farming in maps. Symbol of swiftness and retreat is plenty to gain almost perm swiftness to roam around spamming your lootstick collecting that $$$
Your just gimping yourself and slowing yourself down farming as melee. I would still choose as Hammer/sword/focus guardian if you really wanted to melee farm over a warrior anyday.

me? well I played on my bunker/condi necro a bit. It doesn’t kill anyone, but it takes a while to be killed.
rabid/engi made me want to scratch my eyes out as two basi thieves took turns killing me over and over…. so I logged to my basi thief and killed some of them…
in several matches in the passed few days I’ve fought warriors with near perma-quickness, bull’s charge, mace stun, 100 blades quickness stomp…
…even if you catch them while bull’s charge is on cooldown, they still kill you so fast they don’t even need to pop defy pain.
Whatever, you guys can defend the game all you want, but there’s no skill involved in killing people in just a few seconds while they’re stunned, and I can’t see how that could be considered fun.
No offense but everything you have said just proves you lack knowledge of this game and how to play. Maybe Action based combat is not for you? This games combat is much more skill based than say a tab target MMO with a trinity like WoW. Wow balance is so bad certain classes are not even viable in the pvp meta(ele shamans ect)
Sounds like you never took the time to learn how to play proper builds that are relevant in gw2 current meta or found a class that fits your playstyle.
I mean your crying about warriors….I have to ask do you even play this game? Cele elementalist, bunker guardians, cele necros, ect meta is most based around tanky and condi burn builds than anything else.
Making alts and doing map completion and crafting legendaries to sell for gold is also amazing, takes a bit more time but it’s worth it if you are good at speed running maps.
Yes, if you happen to have tons of T6 mats and lodestones just sittin’ around….
This only works if you already have 3000g+ to invest with. If you have 80g to your name, this is about the worst suggestion you could possibly make.
What are you talking about? I suggest learning about basic economics and playing the market on MMOS before making such a false comment.
Every MMO is the same when it comes to the economy, same as real life. You don’t need 3k g to invest with that’s silly. As you increase your wealth you will see bigger returns of course.
If you read my post you would see I linked a website that gives detailed information on where to farm every material in the game, aka learning the market and researching prices and going out to farm those materials worth the most to sell on the TP will give you your start up cash.
Silverwaste is terrible for pure gold farming.
P.S I can take that 80g and flip into 200+g easy, just have to use your brain a tad bit. I played harder games like Archeage and made thousands of gold using a spreadsheet and playing the market.
(edited by Lucifer.7289)
There are better ways of making gold than silverwaste. 10g a hour is super low and almost a waste of time IMO. Even if you have high magic find and good RNG, I still think the gold per hour is low for the time investment you need to spend in Silverwaste.
Playing the market will be better use of your time. I spend a bit of time researching market prices. Also using this website http://pwniversity.com/gw2/farming to know where to farm matierals with the least amount of time spent.
Making alts and doing map completion and crafting legendaries to sell for gold is also amazing, takes a bit more time but it’s worth it if you are good at speed running maps.
I have not touched my Guardian in months before the june patch i was using this build http://metabattle.com/wiki/Build:Guardian_-_Staff_Farmer
Can anyone link me a updated lootstick farming build?
Thief only has 1 good build dagger/pistol/shortbow sooo boring after a while. Arena net needs to give thief more variety of builds.
Well tell me why even top players seems to play GW2 kind of badly? I often wonder do they even look what boons enemy have and so on.
First post: There are no pro players in Guild Wars 2. All players are average or slightly below for Guild Wars 2.
The only reason why they are the top is due to actually staying on a team. When there is literally only 5 teams around chances are none of them are honestly great at the game.
No one takes this game’s pvp seriously and it most likely never will be taken seriously as a esports due to who runs it. Anet has done a fantastic job at screwing themselves side ways in this department. Their new pvp map after three years is…. a two lane pve intensive resource driven raid… It is not based on the interaction of players with players but with players and NPC. It is a joke.
What a horrible, misinformed post.
He is pretty correct. MMOS are not taken seriously in any real Esport environment, it’s more of a marketing gimmick, advertisement for the company’s product. No one takes World of Warcraft Arena’s seriously and their events only start rolling around when Blizzcon is near.
MMOs are poorly balanced for any kind of real competitive Esport. So far no business that runs a MMO has devoted the resources into a 100% development team devoted to balance their MMO around Esports to get the most competitive and skillful play.
The only reason you see Arena Net and other companies trying to push their games as Esports, is because Esports is becoming mainstream and there are potentially huge financial gains and marketing opportunities in the scene as it grows.
Now I would love to be proven wrong and see Arena Net work more on balancing all their classes and builds for competitive play, but seeing how many builds and classes GW2 has that seems very unrealistic to do.
Mobas, fighting games, RTS, and FPS work in the Esport scene because they are built 100% for competitive play and their development teams are 100% focused on balancing and running their product as a sport.
MMO development teams have to pool resources in making all their customers happy, Pve, casual, pvp, storyline, ect the list goes on. Huge time and $$ investment to make a MMO appeal to everyone.
I don’t think turning the microscopic “Esport side” of gw2 into a toxic reality tv show is the way to go. We will have to see if GW2 scene will grow now that ESL picked the game up.
It would be cool to see a legit MMO work in the Esport scene.
“Guild wars 2 good friendly community” I agree there are some old sport player, but there is no pardon in competitive games, but let me give you point of view:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/pvp16 thread from 27 is nothing more than rant and QQ, I counted it not just guessing. I read most of it, we had a topic collection not so long ago which collected rants about all of the 8 class is “OP”;
I don’t think any1 who has their map chat turned on didn’t got messages like.
“kittening zerker” -> just because the other one ran 0 surviveability build
“noob tanker kitten ” -> just because burst didn’t bought you down.
“easy kitten ” -> 2-3v1 you are weak cuz can’t counter their team alone
“no skill condi trash” -> in this game if you plan longer than your cast time, you gona be a noob by some merit.
… I could go on PvPer community will always compete, if one loses a fight will compete with words afterwards. It’s ok, this is part of the game, no game out there where it doesn’t go the same way.
Still many does not considering that a new troll account will be useless, they will be matched in the lowest level and will be out ranked almost instanly.
Nothing can hold the trolls back at the current system either, you can troll at rank80 too, reports make no difference, and dishonor only applies if you leave the match, a troll cares the less.
CS:GO cannot be compared in many way, I said only F2P the PvP part 99% of the game is still B2P and the PvP would allow to get a quick peek before buy.
Also because of the matchmaking system if you are a player who played PvP for at least a month you will never see totaly new players around.
Btw if ANet sets a gate like Rank 20+ on (Un)Ranked arenas you will get players in there if they already know how the game mechanic works.
Your going by the forums and basing our community on that?? You are misguided and misinformed greatly if you think a games forum is a good way to judge the community.
Every online gaming forum has whiners. Guild wars 2 was voted “Nicest” community. I been playing Guild wars 2 since beta and guild wars 1 and all their expansions. Guild wars pvp community has always been the least Toxic community.
FTP would be terrible for Guild wars 2 and a slap in the pvp communities face. All FTP for pvp only would do is create a toxic community period.
I love Arena Net because they have no tolerance policy for breaking their TOS, they ban exploiters and people who take part in violent verbal harassment in game.
Free to play would destroy that aspect. League of Legends and Dota 2 have some of the worst communities.
At the end of the day Guild wars 2 is not developed and created as a pure Esport game like Dota 2 and LOL were.
You would be destroying paying loyal customers experience making changes for “Esports” which is a very very very small minority of players in pvp. Not everyone who takes part in pvp takes this game seriously or gives a crap what’s on ESL.
If Arena Net wants the mainstream Esport community to take their game seriously, they need to start by balancing the classes better and putting more competitive infrastructure in place that promotes that type of play, which hopefully leagues will do when they add it in the expansion.
(edited by Lucifer.7289)
FTP MMOs are the biggest failures community wise. If Arena Net opens up pvp as FTP, Guild wars 2 good friendly community that we are known for, would vanish. We would have large amount of Toxic trolls.
Free to play models work on MOBAS……..that’s about it. Counter strike CS:GO is the 3rd most popular Esport in the world and it’s Buy to play.
Business model has nothing to do with a games success in the Esport world. Buy to play works great for guild wars 2 and keeps the toxicity level at a low in our pvp community.
No one wants troll FTP accounts in guild wars 2.
Social Media plays a big part in which games become popular and populated these days. Twitch and famous twitch streamers sadly dictate the mass sheep and herd them to w/e games they are trying to market for w/e company is supporting these popular streamers.
I think a lot of good games don’t get enough attention or publicity because the masses go on twitch and see what game their favorite streamer is playing.
It’s one of the downsides to twitch and famous streams IMO, lots of people don’t give games the time of day if their favorite personality is not streaming or playing it.
Social Media, twitch/youtube are huge marketing avenues for gaming corporations these days.
Esports becoming mainstream in the western market has also had an effect on MMOs imo, lots of people are digging the competitive games like Counter Strike, and the various popular MOBAS that dominate the gaming market right now.
Also there has not been much innovation or creativity in newer MMOS these days, just more of the same thing. I mean Guild war’s 2 is the exception as it’s a pretty unique MMO but it also has it’s downsides like lack of pve raid content ect.
Just my 2 cents.
