General rule of thumb in wvw: be level 80 in game, and have ur exotic wep, get it? If you have those two requirements filled, you got the right idea. Don’t be too dps, don’t be too tanky. but you are dying so fast?

U gotta know your battle. all the glass builds will perish if you crit them and apply a few condi here and there, while applying blind, blocking and dodging. if you don’t get damage off, u will be a 1v1 failure. If you don’t apply some control you will also be a failure. Unless u are chancing a berserker build, which is played with chips in one hand. Having some survivability while throwing out damage is important. when it comes to zerg, you aren’t on point. You are supporting with dd. Throw down conditions, as many as possible.

My suggestion for you. Protection is an awesome buff, we have a number of ways of gaining it. I ran 25/20/15/10/0 for a while in the mists, traited for protection buffs with Rune of the forge. getting protection could be ur complete solution if u are dying so fast. Show ur Genius.

I have full character slots, warrior, guardian, thief, ele and engineer. The second I started playing engineer, I thought to myself, this class is awesome, and just kept playing engineer ever since. I love the play style that goes into the class. It’s the class for me.

The problem is One Pump Chump classes are competing with Extremely complicated classes, and that is the root cause of every other issue.

You can’t make some classes tardeasy, and allow that tardeasy playstayle to be competitively dominant. You destroy any chance at Fun for all those players not running the tardeasy builds. You have to reward diversity and complexity. Not Legolas the auto attack/ quickness champion huntard or our scatterbomb dropping LoS dodging thief friends…

This stuff should be completely obvious but it is not. WHY?

This person gets it.

I have always been fond of the bombs in pve, if you are traited for explosives thats a good route. Jaggernaut is a pretty mean traitline at Firearms GM, awesome aoe stuff just not for me. In terms of a substitute for grenades, I haven’t dropped the kit. I am traited for explosives and switch between Nades and bombs, do just fine in pve don’t use the ol’ flametosser much.

communication in DEC. 14 patch

Lunar Corporation.5720

The most recent forum threads in a variety of ways have come down to the communication around ArenaNet in the DEC. 14 patch notes for our profession(s), I think it may be a good topic to put forward in regards to the summaries that they wrote up about classes, specifically in regards to the engineer. I think a thoughtful response is needed here. instead of “it’s bad”, or “it sucks”, or “I am a lobster, and we are intelligent species,” Let’s give some constructive criticism eh? Golden rule? high hopes?

IMHO, the summaries found at the bottom of the DEC. 14 notes are pretty general to a good degree, because people play their professions in a variety of ways. By using words like “versatility” with engineer, I think we avoid saying “bunker” or “dps” when engi could be either. However, on the other hand, there is some specificity, when they say “best at medium range”. Terrific. Hey, The ambiguity that is found overall from patch notes, leaves much of the player to go in game and TEST out for themselves what happened in the patch is 100% better than “1-2-3 steps”. Isn’t that what we do anyway as gamers? CMON For example, we (FINALLY) have working sigils! woot. The first thing i thought of wasn’t, hmmm, how do sigils work, it was, sweet kitten, i’m gonna check it out. (actually I thought it said signets would be applied to our kits . . .)

Any advice on what kind of communication would have been helpful for you?

damage for poisons and bleeds should be en par with necros when one is traited for all condie damage. It’s not that difficult to compare numbers and adjust to match is it?

you mean the ability of a necromancer to proc 15 bleeds with epidemic? cuz the damage for bleeds isnt changing here, the amount of bleeds that you apply, tho, does matter…IJS if u have numbers to prove the difference i guess thats a different story, but it isnt helpful here to get sources confused and repost it

Sigil question

Lunar Corporation.5720

I put corruption on speargun, it doesnt stack with bloodlust.

Any idea how to tell if I put smoldering on my off hand how i easily tell if its working?

Duration is a tough one, i suggest using bomb kit for the flame aoe on a dummy. Best way to start is to look at the burn tick on a dummy without any sigils. Then put one sigil for burn duration or two sigils. Test it out on a dummy in the Mists. that may be a good way to be sure.

Also, for reference, <https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Engineer-sigil-effect-on-kits-bugged/first#post1005173>

Sigil question

I proc’d bleed and chill from sigils on my pistols. Because I stack bleed pretty easy, i am not sure in hindsight that they both proc’d at the same time. But the fact that my offhand sigil triggered confirms that the offhand sigil effects in the use of a kit skill crit. I wonder if a sigil on my speargun would also apply to my kits. Gotta check that out some time.

Do we have better condition damage than the Elementalist? Seems to me we had a nerf a while back, specifically to our bleed damage.

Not sure how their bleed stacking compares to ours, but they can definitely stack bleeds with their Earth attunment (the staff can keep 12 stacks up just with ability #2, and d/d looks to be able to stack about that many as well.)

A trait which provides a 60% chance to cause vulnerability on crits (10% better than our own trait.)

They can trait for a 30% chance to inflict burning on crits (we have a 33% chance, but we also have an internal cooldown on our activation which guarantees less than 100% uptime.)

Not sure what else they have, but I don’t think they are lacking in the condition stacking department.

-Travail.

The time it takes to get eruption off (staff earth attun. skill #2) is pretty long, so an Ele can stack the burns and might inside of fire attun. pretty well, and massive aoe damage there, arguably more effective than going for earth on the aoe. but it is an awesome skill.

Engineer can stack bleeds much easier than the Ele in comparison. the 15% boost on shrapnel only adds to this if you are a grenadeir GM with crits going and so forth. in terms of the engineer and Ele skill that allows burning on crits . . . You need to be pretty nit-picky to kitten about the differences there IMHO. Just don’t see it being that different.

The bleed damage for engi is not on par with any other class, the burn damage is not on par with guardian, the poison damage is not on par with necros, the list goes on. (actually the bleed might match the thief’s i’ve gotta check.) but still this is getting ridiculous.

Can you give me evidence of this? The way it stands now, bleeds are fixed for engis. My burn and poison conditions do pretty well for me. But until you have some evidence from patches, bugs, or wiki, I am just looking at this as another QQ.

Traiting is the versatility here for Engi or Ele. Ele may be a little more orthodox in this respect . . . ANET defines the ele, “the KING of versatility”. If by “king”, we mean a ruler by orthodoxy, then we can’t help but agree. I’d call the Engineer unorthodox, but an innovative leader nonetheless. PVE or PVP, I really enjoy playing engineer. A section about limitations would be interesting, but I’d rather peer into the benefits than the hangups. There are a lot of benefits: better condi application and damage—more crit opportunity—better mobility. If you know your character, you can reap those benefits.

Self-contradictory "philosophy".

Lunar Corporation.5720

Without comments as to ANET’s writers of the respective original posting, (which is such an illegitimate suggestion by this thread), I too read the ele summary. And the other summaries too. What’s obvious is that a ton of people enjoy playing thief and warrior and stick to what I’d call a linear strategy gameplay . . . Which can be very satisfying when you can take that health-bar down fast with style.

On the contrary ranged/caster classes have a different feel in this game than other RPGs, and engi really is unique for any classification, which is why I love it. I think the gist of ANET’s suggestion in their philosophy is this: people are more apt to play Ele than Engi for the caster/range class. Nothing wrong with encouraging some more exploration in the game: players who stick strictly to thief or warrior may miss out on that, and those who want to check out the casting, ranged side of things, DO IT.

(ED: I welcome playing up the ele class if it gets a bit more population playing it rather than the more overplayed classes. honestly people will switch to ele before they will switch to engi)

Super elixir was fixed. Most people go cleric with the respective traits —some players do 30 alchemy and 30 inventions. EG is a big part of that role. . . Not to mention, you can stack super elixir on the map a variety of ways for you and your team so--speculating here, if anyone can confirm—you can stack 3 different super elixir aoes on the map (reset cooldowns under elixir S in skill slot AND/OR self regulating defenses [w/ potent elixirs], and kit refinement from tools) in a matter of a few swift key strokes, you can preform healing and condi removal over a big area. No other class has that viability.
