Yeah, Rangers get a ton of new abilities, condi cleanse, and insane healing. Thiefs get an extra dodge roll that’s unusable in it’s grand master trait lines… Even if they did fix the new dodges to be more fluid, it seams all the other classes got amazing new effects and abilities and thieves really didnt get anything other than an unusable staff, and an extra dodge. Staff just has no synergy with the abilities it gives, very underwhelming. With the new druids it’s going to be even harder to kill things as a thief in pvp. We will be forced to run d/p in HoT, and it still wont be enough. Just imagine going against a team with guardian, cele ele, cele druid, scrapper engi, reaper necro…..

The best thing about playing thief is that it is so hard to survive in pvp. While other classes can jump into the fray of battle and make mistakes, we thieves have to be patient and strike at the most opportune moment. If a thief makes even the slightest mistake it usually ends in death.
Winning with a class skillfully that is quite possibly the squishiest and most under powered (as far as suitability) is more rewarding than playing with a class face smashing your keyboard and winning.

I am very disappointed that they are giving a ranged-hungry profession another melee weapon when there’s so much possibility for a ranged weapon that still consistent for being a Thief.
Also it is very hypocritical of them for nerfing Acrobat and S/D saying that Thief gets too much dodge/evade and then make a trait line built around evading and dodging.
There are many classes available in game, and if I wanted to play a ranged class I wouldn’t have picked thief main. Every class does not need to be able to do what every other class can do. This would create a homogenized balance and then GW2 would have the same issues that WoW pvp ended up having after BC.
Hypocritical not so much. They had to nerf Acro or in combination with DD it would have been way too evade spamable and OP.

Running S/D with Deadly Arts, Trickery, and Acrobatics I love the new patch. I honestly don’t feel like I’m hard countered by anything atm. Maybe I was just playing against bad players last night but even engineers didn’t kill me 1v1. Condi hasn’t been too much of an issue removing it with Infiltrator’s strike or Shadowstep.

Use the new Marauder amulet and get rid of that Berserker amulet. The new zerker amulet has no VIT so we have to run with Marauder to get the VIT.

Swindler’s Equilibrium (Successfully evading an attack while wielding a sword recharges steal by 1 second.) Reduce the CD even more by evading with sword equipped. ~.^

I prefer the new system because:

I don’t want to HAVE to use the stolen item twice if I want to Steal again.
This right here. This trait is amazing. If timed right you can use a stolen ability 4x in a row with two steals. Fought a guardian last night and with daze on steal and the stolen ability I was able to interrupt him 6x back to back lol.

As Loki mentioned before me… swap to shortbow and kill them. Spam 3 for the evades if you need to, cluster bomb if they are stealth. Another tip is, if they are stealth and if you have another enemy targeted your arrows will bounce from the visible target and hit the stealth thief.

I have often had this same issue. I always end up choosing human female over human male simply because the only male face that looks decent is Clint Eastwood, and the rest are too feminine.

It’s happening with all stealth. It no longer stacks and is capped at 2 seconds. This needs to be fixed asap. Certain thief builds are unplayable atm.

Shadow Arts will be the thief “Medic” trait line. Resilience of Shadows (-50% damage) + Merciful Ambush (Stealth yourself and ally when reviving, revive 10% faster) + Shadow Protector (Stealth ally they gain Regen 10s 1,300 Heal) + Either Cloaked in Shadow or Shadow’s Rejuvenation. The blind from CiS would be nice for reviving allies, and the Shadow’s Rejuvenation would be a great recovery tool for thief to reset fights. For a pure “medic” build CiS would probably be better to ensure a full revival on an ally.

The added reward tracks for spvp are… ok. It does take a bit longer to acquire a full dungeon set in spvp than in the actual dungeon which is fine, but it was much easier to acquire some of the same armor before the patch. One problem for me is that a lot of the skins I am getting I have already earned in spvp so there isn’t really a reward.
When are spvp players going to get weapons / armor that is unlockable only in spvp. Similar to the fractal weapons, or the wvw weapons. It would be a nice way to show off an achievement of some sort. Something to strive for other than ranks, maybe an achievement or set of achievements that show an individual players skill. (Maybe achievements like, total points capped/defended, total kills, or even minimal deaths)

With the new rewards coming to WvW March 28th through May 30 it makes me ask the question, “What’s in store for spvp rewards?”. As of right now Spvp is rewarded with glory (that’s going away), armor skins (to salvage), and current pve event swag (stuff pvpers don’t care about), and finishers through ranks (you can buy cooler ones). It’s nice to see these rewards coming for WvW and gives me hope that maybe players in Spvp will be rewarded soon.
Another concern by many of us veteran pvpers is rank points in Spvp. It’s nice that rank point rewards will be increased for all game types, but what concerns us is how hard we have worked to get to the rank that we are at and how easy it will be for new comers to achieve that same rank.
With the new rank point ladder to climb will veterans be boosted a few ranks to account for total points gained?
Remember ranks and the finishers obtained through them are the only real reward we’ve had in spvp. I’m really hoping to see some significant changes to spvp soon. Seeing how much the dev team does for PvE, and WvW content shows how much more they could do for Spvp.

The problem is the players, all so worried about losing because they aren’t running the most broken skills, pistol whip is a prime example, the tool tip on the skill doesn’t say it evades but it is, this is a bug exploit and personally i think everyone whose exploiting this should realise they are the ones ruining the game, if there’s a bug report it and stop exploiting it. We wont make money playing this game so why is everyone so scared of losing? Try running classes that dont have perma evades god mode utilities and insane elites spirit of nature, obviously one of the biggest problems, and every ranger is forced to be brain dead well supposedly im just assumed theyre all to bad to run anything other that spirit ranger go prove me wrong.
So… everyone who runs any class’s meta build is exploiting the game. It’s not the player’s fault if they are pigeonholed into running specific builds due to the current state of pvp. I’m personally looking forward to a pvp update just to change the current meta so that we can run different builds while still being competitive. Hopefully it wont just be a new pigeonhole experience…

I’ve explained it in the other pistolwhip whine thread, but I’ll say it again: The need for thieves to play pistolwhip derives from this ridiculous tank meta. Thief isn’t the root problem, only a symptom and a consequence of it. I agree that its a strong build, borderline OP, but if it wasn’t for them, the meta would be even more tanky. S/P is the only thief build (and probably the only roaming/dmg meta build) that can reliably put pressure on the enemys bunkers, of which teams usually have 4/5 in this meta, and survive in this AoE spam (thanks to the evade frame).
Although I do play S/P, I find it a lot less appealing and fun than S/D was, but in the end the only people to blame, are those who whined about S/D for months and subsequently got it nerfed, just like D/D burst got nerfed before S/D (yet again because of massive whine). I guess you realize those patterns in thief “balancing”?!
There would be a lot less S/P Players if there was no need for a “bunkerbuster”, but thanks to the meta (and the past nerfs to thiefs bursting potential) thats not possible anymore. Frequent evades on a weaponset might not be the ideal way to balance a class’ defensive abilities, but as long as they don’t do a complete overhaul of the Shadow Arts traitline, it’s the only way to reliably avoid damage as a thief (keeping in mind that Berserkers Amulet is OBLIGATORY for them).
I began playing s/p because I was tired of losing to warriors and guardians all the time when I played d/p. I was looking for a build that had high stuns and damage and s/p was exactly what I needed to win the fight against these plate wearing classes. I miss d/p, but will not go back to it due to the warriors that I constantly come across in spvp. Just simply trying to run the counter build to what I see most in the matches and right now that’s warriors and engi.

Sorry to say this but that was a disappointing Ready Up episode for us spvpers. Spvp was only talked about for a few minutes and that was just to let us know that glory is to be no more and that we are going to get pve rewards… and we also know now not to expect our much anticipated spvp update until…. later. Then we watch the devs play EoTm for 45 min.
Starting to really feel like there isn’t anything major planned or in the works for spvp, and that whatever it is isn’t going to live up the the hype that it’s given. Throw us a bone! Many of us are losing hope…

face a pistol whip thief on any class that is not engi, no matter how bad the thief is all you have to do is smash few buttons and you have perma evades / blind . the main problem is any1 with 1 brain cell can play it. I see many terrible players just spam pistol whip and killing. I though hammer warrior was bad since it was op and easy to play. Pistol whip is OP AND EASIER* to play than hambow.
I agree… I main thief and find PW to be extremely boring to play. It’s not that I don’t use other weaponskills besides PW, but that’s the main source of damage. Headshot is pointless on the s/p weapon set because PW is so much better. I played a hambow warrior to see what that was all about and yeah it’s OP and easy but like you said, PW thief is right up there with hambow.

I play a thief and the problem that I see from most abilities being “OP” stems from the way the class is designed with initiative. The class is designed to spam one ability several times. We (thieves) generally only have one good damage dealing weapon ability and with no cool downs on our weapon skills it leads to spamming.
I can see two ways to fix the spamming problem. The first involving adding more abilities to each weapon set that deal damage. I understand that there are great utility weapon skills to be used, but when we want to deal damage it’s typically one ability being used and spammed because that’s we’ve got to use. The second idea is a little more involved and requires a lot of class restructuring. Get rid of initiative… make the class operate on cool downs like all the other classes. The only problem I see in idea #2 is that in doing so you’d have to also implement idea #1….
As for PW… maybe get rid of the evade and leave the rest alone. A thief that uses PW is rooted and therefore vulnerable. Removing the evade makes it a risk to use the skill and will provoke more thought before using it / spamming it.

Anet really needs to post something regarding the upcoming pvp patch in March. All we know as of now is that there will be a few balance changes and sigil changes. Oh we also know that the pvp rewards are going away….
We need to know what rewards will be available to us as well. You can’t just tell the pvp community who has been wanting better rewards for so long that you’re removing the current rewards without mentioning what new rewards will be taking it’s place. So many people are losing interest because of the current imbalance as well as little reward. The current lack of information regarding the “big” pvp patch is pushing many people to quit the game… I’m hanging on with my last thread of hope at this point.

ALL of us play PvP. Though, I’ll give you that I’m no where near as good as Powerr, Grouch, Roy, Hugh, and Tyler. I’m pretty sure they’ve all made it to the top 100.
I play on Isle of Janthir, and you can usually find me in Solo Arena as Flux or Aegir.

The most fun I’ve ever had is with 2 thieves. If thief is your main class as well as your partner’s then both of you will have a strong understanding of each others abilities. You’ll have a better understanding of their cooldown timers as well as what they are capable of in whatever build they are running. You’ll mesh better and after running with your partner for a while you’ll find that you won’t need to communicate verbally as much and that is when it becomes beautiful.

I am SO tired of thieves being overpowered. Did you know they have a trait that lets them regenerate hp while in stealth?
Anyway my main points I’m trying to get across here is that Shadow Arts needs some major nerfs and the thief class needs to require more skill like the Warrior class. Ty for your time.

lol… its funny how these thieves telling me to l2p. a thief telling a ranger to l2p and i’m a CHAMPION HUNTER. i might have spent more time killing other players than most of these pve thieves.
Nice achievements ya got there. Unfortunately that Champion Hunter title you have only means you spent hours grinding spvp. That might show that you have a lot of pvp experience but sadly that does not equate to skill.
WvW is not the same playground that you are used to in spvp. Hardly anyone runs zerker out there (with the exception of a few thieves). Being good at any form of pvp you can understand that there are counter builds and everything is situational. You’ll have to change your spec to combat your new surroundings and situations. Your WvW build should not be the same as your spvp build.
