I’ve seen multiple people mentioning this but upon completing it and getting the achievement I did not find a mask in the chest. Is this normal?
Well, lots of googling but no luck. If any anyone else finds something or has an idea feel free to post.
You could try the thread over in Players Helping Players that fulfills wishes. You never know.
Good luck.
Thanks. I wouldn’t want to impose on someone like that though.
We’ve just been having fun playing GW2 together since our “real life” has been less than stellar recently and it’s a bummer we’ll miss out on the expansion. I figure it’s worth exploring all options which is why I asked about contests etc.
I feel incredibly lame asking this but does anyone know of any contests or giveaways that are giving away copies of HoT?
My wife and I want to upgrade but probably can’t (medical/life challenges at the moment) so I told her I’d look around and see if there were any sort of contests or anything that are giving away copies.
I’ve never won anything I can remember, but hey, there has to be a first sometime!
Race: Charr
Sex: Male
Face Clipping/Artifact
There is a Charr male face that has some sort of clipping or polygon issue right in the center of the nose. It causes the background texture or a white flickering dot to be visible dead center in the middle of the Charr nose. It’s really distracting.
This issue seems to be hidden when the muzzle angle is down, but using the character creation feature to move the muzzle forward causes it to be visible. I’ve made multiple characters with the same face and the issue persists.
See the attached pics with the white flickering in the dead center of the nose:

Damage meters are part of the TOXIC WoW culture that I’ll be happy to never see again.
So, no.
Or someone with a character parked there, which they only log in on to mine then swap toons again.
Good point. I saw them appear and assumed something was strange.
I was mining a rich iron node today when a character appeared on top of the node, mined it and then disappeared again.
I assume this is a mining bot/compromised account?
edit: or just a guy logged out on the node.

“Hey WoW just lost 5 million subs, so how about you add all the stuff they did to GW2?” is basically what you’ve said.
I’m glad none of the things you’ve mentioned are in GW2. There’s a reason people are running from those other MMOs…
New guardian player…how do I keep up with other players?
My previous classes had abilities that cast swiftness or gave a base increase- do I need to use runes or is there another way?
Sorry, I should have specified. I’m probably more interested in WvW and PvP at the moment but sure, occasional dungeon/fractal as well. I’m just looking for something a little different than stacking as much power as possible for damage and thought that a condition build looked pretty fun.
“Race change will reset your personal story to chapter 1 if it’s not already fully completed.”
Seems like the easiest fix.
I’m thinking of creating an engineer. Is condition engineer decent? Or is it still pretty much about stacking zerk gear and blowing things up? My other classes function that way but I’m looking for something a bit different. Thoughts?
Go into WvW Eternal Battlegrounds or Edge of the Mists and look for a commander tag…there is probably a zerg there. It’s probably the quickest way to level. I don’t recommend this for the entire experience because there is so much to see, but it can provide a nice break from leveling in the world if that’s what you need.
Went with centaur. The patch broke it.
yep. seeing the same issue here.
Yep, it’s broke for me too.
At the moment – Traveler.
When Chrono 25% runspeed hits – anything I feel like.
:)
I’ve been thinking similar. I can’t stand the runspeed difference. But do I want to go with traveler and then lose all of them when the expansion hits and I re-rune?
I just got my mesmer to 80 and do mostly WvW. I’ll probably end up running a zerkers set and am considering my rune choices right now. Suggestions?
Came here to check if this was still relevant, so the consensus is…maybe?
Wow, so many great responses.
I notice people mentioning frost bow which kind of makes my point. The best ranged weapon for a caster class…is a bow. It’s very weird.
I also noted that D/D’s main benefit is survivability which is also very odd for a caster archetype.
I’m not saying Ele is “wrong”- that’s completely subjective. It’s just between the dagger builds, conjured weapons, stance-dancing etc. it feels/plays nothing like what I expected. I also looked over what we know about the Tempest and it seems even stranger!
I’ve been playing Ele for the last month or so. I generally like caster classes and “glass cannons” so I wrongfully assumed Ele was similar.
The best PvP build is with melee weapons that require close range.
The biggest perk is survivability and uptime/sustain.
The long range (staff) build is used mainly for buff/backline benefits.
There are no real “nuke” spells.
Ele still has horrible survivability but not on-demand damage to justify it.
I’m a relatively new player and I feel that Ele is not at all what I expect when playing a caster class. It also seems that everything is justified around D/D which seems sort of stupid.
I’m not sure what I’d even do to change it. I just know that playing an Ele feels nothing like a caster archetype I’d expect it to. I don’t think I like it.
I’m a new player currently at level 27. I’m wondering what level range it’s most practical to use Tomes of Knowledge. I’ve been told leveling gets a little better around 35 because of dungeons so I was considering using them soon.
Any advice?
What you’re experiencing is perfectly normal. The Elementalist is one of the hardest professions to level since we’re unusually dependent on our traits. That said, it’s totally possible to level an Ele to 80 without just using Crafting XP. Here are a few tricks:
1. The Glyph of Lesser Elementals Utility skill and eventually the Elite skill Glyph of Elementals are lifesavers. These guys are basically on-demand meat shields and using them can make the game 10 times easier. I suggest summoning the Earth elementals most of the time since they can take one heck of a beating. You won’t need these once you hit level 80 and know what you’re doing, but they can help when you’re still light on traits and learning the ropes. Pro tip: most of your healing skills outside your 6-slot heal in an AoE, so be sure to splash some healing onto your elemental from time to time to keep it healthy.
2. You’re gonna want to get the Water and Arcana trait lines filled out first. These trait lines are basically mandatory for every viable Elementalist build right now (there may be some exceptions, but they are few and far between). Water lets you deal with your squishiness by making it possible to spike heal back from almost anything and Arcana makes attunement swapping much stronger.
3. Speaking of which, switch attunements often! The Elementalist isn’t intended to sit in Fire and spam its autoattack. Any time you’re not emptying cooldowns, you’re underplaying your potential.
4. Dagger/Dagger is our strongest weapon set in most game modes. That said, Dagger/Focus, Scepter/Dagger, and Staff all have their proponents as well. Personally, I prefer Scepter/Dagger for leveling up. It has pretty strong burst, CC, and healing potential, some mobility for when things get rough, and allows you to keep your distance when the mobs are beating on your summoned elementals. The Staff is really strong as well, though you’re more vulnerable in melee. Really, you can pick which weapon set you like (other than Scepter/Focus. Too little damage. Killing mobs will take f-o-r-e-v-e-r).
5. Early on, you probably want to prioritize gear with Vitality. Eles have the smallest base health pool in the game and a bit more Vitality will give you a few extra seconds to switch to Water and start healing yourself. We make great use of every stat, though, so don’t be afraid to mix and match pieces you find along the way. The current meta for Eles is actually Celestial gear (which gives every stat) but that’s a long ways off for you right now. Power/Toughness/Vitality is a pretty decent learner stat spread for Eles. Later on, you can tweak it if you like.
6. For Utility skills, Cantrips are your friend. Seriously, these suckers are hella strong. They’re all great depending on the circumstance, and they all will go a long way towards keeping you alive.
Thanks, that was helpful. Is there any sort of typical rotation I should be using? Like starting in fire and then going to…?
I’m new to GW2 (played a little last year but never dived in past the first few levels) and I’ve decided to level an elementalist.
I’m curious what weapon combo I should be using while leveling? A staff?
I also seem to be dying a lot…I’m familiar with the concept of caster classes being squishy, but it doesn’t seem like I’m putting out the damage for how weak I am.
I’m level 18 at the moment. I’ve leveled a couple of characters up to about this level and the Elementalist has been fun but frustrating at this point.
