I really love the class, but for PvP…ugh.
If anyone is playing it competitively I’m all ears as to what you’re doing.
What changed with the broom?
Great fights, good video.
What build do you use?
What combo/abilities are being used to blow people up in this video?
I’m more familiar with the “can’t be killed” chronos of last season.

“Guardians seemed to get the shaft of the update, mainly getting their one and only viable build nerfed. True Shot’s damage reduction, on top of the Hunter’s Ward change, makes the “new” guardian build the same thing, only weaker. It’s refreshing to see some shouts buffed, but it’s definitely nowhere close to achieving what an elementalist or ranger can do in the support role. Guardian is definitely at the bottom of pit and with the projectile hate given from elementalists and engineers, it won’t find its way onto a pro roster. …”
How do things stand in WvW for most professions? Tried to hop in last night and I was mostly getting blown up by revs…
Total noob ranger here. What pets should I be using for PvE, WvW, PvP?
Looks like for solo PvE most people are suggesting a tiger/lynx and for PvP/WvW a bristleback or smokescale.
Is that still correct?
@fFamous.8720
I don’t get it, you have with 970 50fps, while I have over 100 with GTX 950, on which settings do you run this game?
What’s your CPU? GW2 is heavily CPU dependent…
I’m also experiencing this
I had the same thing happen to me. I completed the collection achievement, got the Star and the Gift of Magnanimaty, and yellow text indicating that the resource node had been added, but it’s not in my home instance. I decided to wait a day to see if it would appear with the reset, but it’s still not there.
Ok, well at least I know I’m not the only one.
My monitor is only 1080 but I’m still frustrated the UI can’t be changed/moved at all.
Yesterday I completed the achievement that awards Gift of Magnanimity but upon consuming it there is no tree in any of my home instances.
Anyone still playing bunker guard/DH in PvP? Care to share your build or discuss strats?
Sounds like WoW garrisons…please no.
We all know there’s a lot of clicking in this game when consuming items or opening bags.
I want to know if I can bind a keyboard key to double-click without causing any sort of problems. My G510 keyboard allows this pretty easily.
I’m NOT talking about pressing a key to double-click hundreds of times, but that each press of the key would be a mouse double-click.
Is this permitted?
Mine dropped from my first matriarch kill.
This build is pretty fun but it definitely depends on the comp. I’m still in the lower leagues and standard Maurader DH is usually still a safe bet.
I think seeing account name would be far more useful for in-game mail. Sometimes I’ll get a message from a guidie’s alt and there’s no way to even tell who it came from if you aren’t familiar with that character. (as far as I know anyway)
Yes, this is also an issue.
It’s annoying trying to keep track of everyone’s alt names. I know you can mouseover the name but is there any way to just make the name display? If not, I think this would be a great change to just place the display name next to the character name.
Something like: BigCharr(Simon.2345)
This would be optional that could be turned on and off since it’s not always needed, but nice when it is.
Since its close to my build but a little more group orientated: I have a lot of fun too!
I think you should drop Force of will. losing 3k hp hurts but its not that bad – you do have a lot of mitigation. And with the added CD reduction on wings of resolve another good heal to top up your hp pool you should be fine. I would also ditch RF for FMW. 7 1/2 secs quickness is just too good. being able to pump out Empower in 1.5 seconds is absolutely valuable and a reduced CD on FMW and stand your ground has its merits. yes the recharge of the virtues is good too but with FMW and Empower you be able to set up really good damage spikes for your team which imo is more valuable then to just withstand damage longer and still might get downed. also FMW helps in stomping and rezzing like crazy. activate F3 + FMW for a very safe rez.
However my build uses valor instead of virtues which also provides a recharge of F3 on rez so that combo is more worthwhile there. so that is matter of taste imo. As aoelus suggested in my thread Rune of leadership is a good substitute rune especially with FMW as elite and pure of voice which will provide a tripple condi-to-boon-conversion every 45 secs on FMW. keeping condis off yourself is double reward since you also get a 10% damage reduction.
my current build changed a little:

This is a pretty interesting build. How do you play it? Are you using mace/shield or staff most of the time? What do you usually do in games?
Everyone was raging about Dragonhunters in PvP and now with the release of the PvP system I’ve watched them all but disappear from play. Even in the ESL there was only what, one DH? On EU the meditrapper build seems to be nearly gone and it’s dropping a lot on NA too.
I’m not saying DH is bad, but other specs are obviously much more powerful in PvP scenarios.
Funny how things change in just a few weeks.
If they simply allowed the chat box and action bar to be unlocked that would be sufficient for me. Even the chat box alone would make a big difference.
you can swap the place of chat-frame with party-frame
Ya, I know. That doesn’t really do anything for me as they are still on the far left side of the screen.

It definitely has a lock on the conquest mode it is not selectable on the right side when you in the PvP lobby only stronghold can be checked. I am still not able to use the Trading post to buy and sell things even after buying the game i am not sure what i am doing wrong but i can’t buy anything other then basic crafting materials.
I did unlock masteries after a bunch of deaths in HoT took me about 2 hours maybe more to get the first part to get that unlock done as soon as it let me select one i was out of there far to difficult. I did the first tier of pact commander and switched to fractals because i want to be able to do them at some point it also seems like it might be easier to get a group for them.
Specialization is just a weird thing to call it then if it is literally your only choice.
Masteries are different then your elite specialization (tempest).
Masteries give you new abilities and bonsuses like gliding or the ability to talk to new vendors.
Masteries use mastery points. Your elite specialization uses hero points.
Since you’ve played WoW maybe these comparisons will help.
Condi=DoTs
Attunments (air, fire, water, earth) for an elementalist are like a warrior’s stances in WoW.
Build is like your talents (also called build by many people) in WoW, and your training is like unlocking points for your talent build.
Your tempest specialization requires more points and these can be earned by doing hero points in the world and primarily in the new Heart of the Thorns maps. Once you have these points you can use them in your training tab and then pick what you want in your build tab.
WvW is kind of like a giant Alterac Valley. It’s a huge open map where large amounts of players PvP. Standard PvP in GW2 is more like WoW arena.
Gear in PvP is normalized and you get to choose what you want. Your amulet will determine your stats and you also get to pick your runes and sigils. Everyone is at the same level for Stronghold and Conquest. WvW uses your actual gear but lower level players are upleveled to 80.
Yes, it stops it from being storage and also functions as a gold sink to prevent further inflation.
This could be done in GW1 if I recall correctly. I’d simply like to move my chat window closer to the center of field of view…but I only get the option for bottom corner/top corner. Is that it?
I can’t find any source saying it does or doesn’t, just a lot of debate on forums.
Does anyone know for sure if it affects salvaging?
It does not.
- The developers have stated that it doesn’t.
- Tests run on 10s of thousands of salvages verified this, in the days when MF was bound to armor and food (before it was account bound).
There’s a lot of debate because, at one point, it did affect salvaging. But now it doesn’t anymore.
Sorry, no. MF never affected salvage rates. As noted above, this was demonstrated by a lot of different testers in the MF-in-armor era.
Ok, can you link me where the devs state it doesn’t affect salvaging? I will add it to the wiki so other people can see it. Everyone keeps telling me this, but no one can link the devs saying it doesn’t.

Any link to verify this? (from a dev post etc.) I ask because I found posts as recent as a few weeks ago debating it and the wiki does not state whether it does.

It’d be nice to get some daylight or something in the lobby at least. No fun sitting in a gloomy dark map for hours.
Sorry, I missed the dxdiag instruction. I’ve attached the file now. Again, it seems I’m losing about 20FPS or so when using the 64-bit client.
Attachments:
I’m getting noticeably lower FPS on the 64-bit client compared to the 32. Any suggestions?

Not enough info to recommend a build. What is your friend struggling with particularly?
Mainly just dying a lot and not being able to deal with the normal mobs out there.
I know on my guardian I’ve switched to a condi/burn build because it’s easier to kite mobs around while the burn stacks take them down. I don’t know anything about warrior so I don’t know if there’s a comparable build that might make things a bit easier for them while eliminating some of the frustration.
If traps get nerfed I certainly hope they roll some of that damage back into the longbow abilities or else there will simply be no point in playing DH over a standard guardian build.
Trying to help out a friend who is new and is having a tough time on warrior in the new HoT zones.
Any suggestions on the ideal build for this? It seems like bow might have some value to reduce mob damage but it also hits for a lot less than GS. Rifle build? Condition?
Yes, my wife got one in an airship cargo box.
Is it worth using the better than basic salvage kits on non-rare items?
Seems like a simple thing but I can’t find a date or time anywhere…
You mean wvw where the world is literally dripping in Swiftness? Being done Swiftness yourself or get some friends. This is a social game after all
It’s easy to get stalled out running from an enemy or capping a point only to have your team move ahead with no way to catch up. If you’re a guardian you need to be at the head of the pack constantly or risk getting left behind.
In fact, if you really are a “guardian” and guard points you will suffer from the lack of swiftness more than any other class as you hold positions and are unable to be reunited with the group afterward.
If the devs feel that a runspeed increase is to “good” for PvP or whatever then having a runspeed increase out of combat would be sufficient for me. It’s mainly a quality of life thing to not always get left behind the group when doing content like WvW.
With the changes to salvaging what’s still worth salvaging and what’s worth selling?
I feel like I get very little after I salvage the loot I used to after a boss kill.
Unless something has changed in the last week, GW2 has never done that. It was always dumps you into a lower population map if you were in a full/high one
I did some googling and this was just posted on Reddit:
“As long as you go back to the same instance of the same map, there is a long grace period you can return already built in. Mega servers attempt to save your slot as well so if you disconnect you can return in a reasonable window.
We don’t let you keep participation in other instances of the same map to prevent stuff like map hop farming with top participation.”
I don’t understand how Anet thinks it is fair to give a movement boost to every class but ours. Every other class either has a passive movement speed boost, or a way to have complete uptime on swiftness. Meanwhile we sit at 50% uptime on swiftness if we lose a util slot to it (vs engi with no utils lost, and rev with just one lost for 100% swift uptime).
Basically this is the equivalent at this point of taking away all movement speed from classes and just giving guardian permanent cripple. Seems fair when you put it that way right? Just moving around open world is a pain in the kitten. I don’t even care about combat as much as just moving from point A to point B.
This sums it up. I’m sad when I’m trying to run after a group and not being able to keep up, or always having to have retreat and a staff to just keep swiftness up half the time.
I love the game, but guardian speed makes me sad.
I’ve read that if you’re disconnected/crashed the game is supposed to hold your spot on the map for a bit. Unfortunately, HoT has been crashing for me a lot and when I reconnect I’ve ALWAYS been dumped on a new map with no one there.
Is this a bug or working as intended? It’s frustrating to work for an event and get booted out before it completes.
We’re really the only class that doesn’t have a good solution to this.
Yes, you can argue “lore” that we’re “guardians” but look at warrior’s mobility for example…at this point it’s a quality of life change. I’m tired of constantly needing to keep a staff equipped and retreat on the bar just to keep up with others.
Leveling in HoT it’s sad watching everyone run away from you to the next event and you can’t keep up…
Any suggestions for a DH build for general world PvE stuff (leveling, world bosses, etc.).
I’ve been running a scepter/torch burn build with balthazar runes and it burns things down really quickly. It’s been good in Maguuma because I stack burns on mobs and kite them without taking a lot of damage.
I’d like to try DH now that I have some more hero points but no builds seem as good to me as my current scepter/torch build.
Ok, maybe no mask this year.
I didn’t get a mask when I opened the chest, but I also didn’t get the achievement.
The achievement was bugged but supposedly fixed now.
