We’re trash for large scale, but for small scale (pvp and small group wvw) we’re very strong. I’d love for us to have more impact on larger fights even if it meant losing portal and/or veil, but it hardly makes us the weakest class.
I agree with this largely. When I solo roam in WvW, I’m having a blast on my Mesmer and although we have received a long string of nerfs, I still feel that it’s a capable class. The current meta-game that focuses on conditions blows for my Mesmer though, but I’m still confident going out in the lakes and taking on most classes.
However, when we roll out as a guild in the lakes with our 15-20 men competitive play-style whereby we purely focus on taking on other competitive guilds or zergs that are >2 our size, I often wonder why I even bother. Other than my utilities – which are highly valued by my guild it must be said – I don’t feel like I bring a lot to the table, and what I do other classes would be better at.
In large-scale organised WvW we’ve been mostly reduced to utility-bots.
I just wish that they’d make it so that AOE does not impact on our clones/phantasms (or pets in general) and that they’d have to be specifically targetted. At least then we could use them for damage, shatters, AOE regen, etc. Our whole class mechanic just becomes non-existent in large-scale and as a result our class suffers massively.
Amazing video!
Btw, other than the chocolate omnomberry cream, which other consumable would you recommend to run alongside it?
Long and very detailed and thoughtful response
Thank you so much, really appreciate all the effort you put into that reply. Certainly gives me some food for thought and will be trying out a few variations on this. Will let you know what I ended up with! ;-)
Hi,
I really loving the idea of your build as in pretty much every MMO I’ve played a support class, rather than a damage class. However, I’m looking for some advice as there’s so many variations possible with your build, I’m somewhat failing to see the forest for the trees! :-)
Play-type: WvW and Guild-vs-Guild
Play-style: zergbusting and competitive game play
Guild: highly organised and competitive 15-20 men guild, ranked in top 5 of GvG ladder in the EU, that rolls out in the lakes with a view of taking on 30+ zergs
Build: pure support
Priorities: (1) AOE healing, (2) AOE regen, (3) Boon dispenser, (4) Survivability, (x) Damage – not of interest
In this context, what would you recommend for:
- Traits
- Abilities
- Gear
- Trinkets
- Runes / Sigils
- Food
Kind regards,
Marsares.

Sword – Whisperblade
Focus – Spirit Links
GS – Vision of the Mists
They all have a purplish glow about them, which fits perfectly with the Mesmer spell effects.
Really struggling to find a staff that has similar effects though…
Whilst fixing culling has been a major improvement and massively contributes to my gaming experience, unfortunately it in combination with the wXP has created a new meta-game where whole servers choose to stack up on top of each other ikittenone and create a choo choo karma train.
It’s a sad state of affairs when players prefer skill-less PVE zerging over actually achieving anything, but I guess they cannot be blamed till some extent as AN gave them this game. Still, I wish more people actually took pride in their achievements and ventured out in small-scale.
The whole night has been basically running around ikittenone that felt totally deserted, only to be ran over after 5-10 minutes by a 70+ zerg who feel it necessary to chase you halfway across the map. I do hope that people tire of this quickly and actually go back to guild-groups or small-scale groups.
Oh,what we gonna do now ? Our so called “CORE” guilds with 10-15-20 ppl have left…We are doomed !
Just shows that you simply do not know one thing about Piken with that comment.
agree. Piken Square never relied on one or two big guilds, it relied on around 8 guilds who had 10-20 people in the lakes each evening. What is more, it relied on these guilds working together in unison and coordinating their actions, enabled by the fact that’s my of them fought together or against each other in war hammer for two or three years. These guilds respected each other, that was what made the server special and what made it rise from practically the lower tiers to tier four.
Now these guilds can’t get their players in as bandwagoners have flooded the server and lakes. And when they do get in, there are few organised guilds in at the same time that cooperate well enough or have the punching power. We have had two weeks of sitting for two+ hours in queues now with zero to limited playtime as a guild, that’s why you see core guilds leaving now. To call these guilds bandwagoners is hilarious, they have been on PS since day one and build it into what it is. Also, all of them are transferring to servers that aren’t doing well in WvW and need support. These guilds are looking for a fight, that’s what makes them tick.
Does this all matter to PS? It remains to be seen. The ball is now in the court of the bandwagon guilds… For once, step up and show some realm pride now you’re stuck on this server for some time. PS can rise again, but actions speak louder than words.
Where are your core guilds leaving to?
A bit silly to ask this in a public forum after core guilds like ourselves were forced to leave due to bandwagoners. Do you honestly think we’ll publish such information whilst free transfers are still available? We’ve found a new home and we’ll protect it at all costs. We have server pride, unlike the bandwagoners.
Looking forward to our first week of WvW on Aurora. Bring it on. Play hard, play fair.
I don’t want to offend anyone and have a lot of respect for the guilds on PS, but yesterday we were wondering what the hell you guys were doing. It did not made any sense to us, thats what I’m trying to say.
the raidtimes from organized guilds on RS are between 6-9pm, especially during weekday. after the raids are over, the majority of players will leave and do something else, and with only an handful WvW-guilds there is not much power left to be competetive.
Well, it is not surprising in many ways:
1) Long queues due to bandwagoners so difficult to get guild raids in, let alone multiple guilds that coordinate together;
2) Lot of the core guilds took a step back as a form of protest in the hope of stemming the tide of more easymoders joining the server;
3) Some core guilds (like ourselves) already transferred to another server as PS’ community got destroyed.
Good fun in EB against Riverside in smallerish scale. I was in a 2 PX mesmer group and afterwards i was with a warrior roaming around, good fun around the ruin tower where you had a whole bunch of siege up there
Can`t say the same for Baruch though… every BB we chased (as 2 people) simple ran inside a tower/Stonemist instead of fighting back, even when you were more then us.
You only had fun as you had a pro mesmer roaming with you … !
Just wanted to congratulate Gandara and Augury Rock for sheer grit, persistence and determination. With all the uninvited bandwagon guilds joining Piken Square, we knew that it was going to be unbalanced and that you guys didn’t have enough organised guilds nor coordination.
Yet…. you keep coming back and you keep fighting, you refuse to bow and to be broken and keep fighting for the realm. I bow my head in admiration for that.
Also had a really fun fight against BF. Kudo’s to you for breaking off near Bravost and doing a GvG with you. Unfortunately you got hit in the back by RG and Co in the end.
Marsares, Pax Mortis, Piken Square.

Emulated your build with WvW weapons and crafted and bought accessories and it gives pretty similar stats. It’s an hilarious build… such good survivability whilst still having hard hitting burst. You can do some silly stuff with it, like fighting big groups when you solo roam. May not kill people as easily as with Shattercat build, but the survivability is sooooo much better. Absolutely having a blast, so thanks for coming up with this build.
AC is the easiest dungeon and a group that knows the dungeon can run thru it quite quickly.
So I’ve been told, but I just despise PvE with a vengeance and have limited gaming time. No worries, had enough WvW badges to buy equivalent WvW weapons. Thanks again. ;-)
Noob question, but what are AC Weapons? Do they come from a particular dungeon? Just asking, as I don’t do PVE, am here to PVP and melt faces.
You get them with tokens earned in dungeons. AC=Ascalonian Catacombs. You can find the dungeon merchants in Lion’s Arch next to where the WvW portals are.
Ah, thank you so much. I assumed it was a dungeon, but wasn’t sure which one he was referring to. Given that I don’t do PVE, I’ll see if I can get some weapons with similar stats as I’m keen to have a go at this spec, after having run Shattercat and Condition Bunker for some time.
Just going to put this here too :P. It bears repeating.
Rani! Missing my favourite face-rolling WE! How are things in Swiss? ;-)
Ran into your guild (FLEE, isn’t it?) the other day with some of Pax Mortis, although I have no idea whether you were there as well. Look out for the fail-Mesmer next time, it’ll be me.
To everyone else, just relax. It’s a game. Every server will have their trolls, abusers and haxers. Actions speak louder than words, just go in-game and show everyone what you’re made off. Play hard, play fair, have fun. That’s what it’s all about.
I use the AC weapons btw, sir.
Noob question, but what are AC Weapons? Do they come from a particular dungeon? Just asking, as I don’t do PVE, am here to PVP and melt faces.
no
your problem is you guys dont fight like a server – your guilds fight all for there kitten and ignore the other players (“RANDOMS”)
and it will not help you guys to call it “elona only masses” “big blobs” blablabla – just excuses nothing more – we dont rly care boutelona was t1 and t2 and we fought most “good servers” and trust me when i say elona have low numbers
anyway have fun next week
edit:

but I’ve seen you bragging on the German boards as well Romek, and you honestly need to stop.where? show me
Just logged out for lolz to the character select screen and checked the worlds at 8PM UK time:
- Piken Square: Medium
- Kodash: Very High
- Elona: Very High
Then I logged in and checked all the zones, we don’t have a queue anywhere yet we have an outmanned buff in every WvW zone. I then went to our Borderlands just to get in time to help defend Bay, 40+ Elona on one gate, another 30+ Kodash on the other gate. We had 20 defenders in total.
Besides that, every morning I logged in at 8AM UK time and we had between 30-80 points per tick, with most of our BL coloured green or blue. With the 10 people that we had in our BL it took on average four hours to get some level of red back in our BL, whilst more often than not we had outmanned as well.
Then 5PM UK time came, and the Elona and Kodash hordes descended on our BL with 30-40 men zergs, pushing us all the way back again and just steamrolling our carefully fortified keeps and towers because we still remained on Low-Medium pop. And this continued throughout the night where Elona to their own admission had 30-men groups roaming around.
As a server we prioritise our BL above everything else, even with getting every available player in our BL more often than not we got outmanned.
Good luck on your achievement. Numbers clearly has nothing to do with it.
I’ll be reading next week’s thread with interest to see how you fare against other High Pop servers. Let’s put it this way: there’s a reason you’re not fighting in the higher tiers, in spite of being a very high pop server.

Just have seen the famous Piken warrior which teleport around but I killed him with my thief hahaha kitten .people are right! Thief is OP.
Btw Piken… nice try! That is how few Piken try to get into Aldons (Eternal). At least they tried…
There’s rotten apples in every server unfortunately. This morning I ganked a Elona Warrior who glitched twice into Briar in our borderlands. After I killed him on each occassion, he brought two more and they all glitched in, only to be killed by me and the keep lord.
I’m not sure if it’s that some servers are more prone to cheating or that the exploits are now more well-known, but I haven’t seen as many cheaters as the last week. It’s rather disturbing.
Rather disappointing to constantly see Kodash hide in the little PVE pockets in the WvW lake near Bluewater Lowlands in PS BL, even when they massively outnumber us. Man up and fight. :-)
For the rest some really enjoyable fights, having a blast.
Has anyone found a good torch with Condition Damage, Toughness and – ideally – Precision on it? Should have an upgrade slot obviously. Struggling to find one anywhere.
can’t you use google? =)
pizza: http://www.gw2db.com/recipes/9174-rare-veggie-pizza-s
tuning crystal: http://www.gw2db.com/items/20212-master-tuning-crystal-s
as I said, both increase your damage.
Thanks! Been a great help!
ah don’t forget pizza food and tuning crystals, greatly improving your condition damage
Can you elaborate a bit on the pizza food and the tuning crystals? Running a shatter build at the moment, but want to try my hand a bit at confusion builds and just seeking to maximise the condition damage. :-)
Also, exactly which weapons are you using?
(edited by Marsares.2053)
@Denis
60-80 on one map? No way.
At 3am we had like 30 players on the eternal BL and 30-35 on the Kodasch map. We always changed the map when needed.
Anyway, good fights from both sides.
I hope that Elona can improve even more after we changed our communication system last week which is still a bit chaotic sometimes
At 3am you had 30 people in one zone and 30 people in another? And you’re saying it like it isn’t an insane amount of people at 3am.
Been playing for four hours this morning and so what I’ve learned about Elona is that they stick together as one massive zerg, but don’t engage unless they outnumber us 2:1. They’re also pretty sub-par when numbers are even.
I don’t want to sound disrespectful, but so far it seems like a server that purely relies on numbers, rather than skill. Should be an interesting week, I love fighting when the odds are stacked against us. That’s why we rolled on an RP server to begin with.
We have no illusions that we can win on points with our limited numbers, but we’ll show what Piken is made off when our WvW guilds roll out in the evening.

Pretty much using this build in our 15-men guild WvW setup. Have to play a bit defensively when you’re fighting zergs, but I tend to stick around the backline and just melt anything that pushes through our lines. The burst is insane, with sufficient utility to support the team and enough survivability not to die instantly, as long as you can read the fight.
