PvP: (taken from GW1, changed a bit for gw2)

- New PvP modes:

Priest annihilation (5vs5) mode:

- Priest annihilation is a PvP game type with the added objective of killing the opposing team’s Priest to defeat them.
Unless the priest is killed teams will resurrect every two minutes at their resurrection shrine.
- Priest have cap damage it can receive per hit and heals nearby allies.
- You can only be downed twice per game, all other times you are immediately dead unless Priest or Ally revive you

King of the hill (10vs10vs10) mode:

- also called altar battles matches, three teams fight for control of the hill (usually referred to as the altar).
The altar is a circular shrine at the center of the map.
The winning objective is to hold the altar and score more points than your opponents.

To capture the altar, lead the Ghostly Hero there. He will use a skill called Claim Resource to capture the altar.
The altar cannot be captured while an enemy Ghostly Hero that holds it is still alive.
To gain a point, you must hold the altar for 30 seconds. Every thirty seconds you hold the altar, you will gain another point.

- You will still gain the point if your Ghostly Hero dies provided no other team claims the altar.
- If two teams have the same number of points, the winning team is the team that scored last.
- If your Ghostly Hero dies while holding the altar, he (as well as any team members) will resurrect on the altar
provided no other team captures it. Upon resurrecting, your Ghost can reclaim the altar.
Until he reclaims it, other teams will still be able to claim it for themselves but you will continue scoring unless someone else captures it.

- If your team does not hold the central altar they, as well as the Ghost, will resurrect back in your base.
- Players resurrect every 2 minutes

- Game lasts for 10 minutes
- Ghostly Hero is immune to critical strikes and is immune to knockdowns, pushes, pulls and stuns every 5 sec after he was.

Guild vs. Guild (15vs15) mode:

- GvG battles take place on the Guild Islands. Each guild island features two bases and a flag stand in the center area.
The guild with higher guild rating is assigned the part of attacker, thus the lower rated guild (or defending guild) plays in their own hall.
On most maps the attacker has a slightly weaker position (for example, fewer NPCs or lower ground).
Depending on the type of Guild Hall there may be additional strategic features like catapults, portals, and more.

-The objective of a GvG match is to kill the opposing team’s Guild Lord, an NPC character, who is sitting in the opponent’s base
and has several other NPCs who guard him. If the Lord is killed, that Lord’s team loses.

- In GvG battles each guild has a flag that spawns in or near their base.
Putting your guild’s flag in the flag stand (usually near the island center) and holding it for more than 2 minutes
will give your team a 10% morale bonus:
– 10% more HP, 10% more Healing received, to players
– 10000 more HP and +3 stacks of Defiance to Guild Lord for the rest of the match.
– morale boost is capped at 20%
– morale boost is lost on down
- In a GvG match all dead players (but no NPCs) will automatically be resurrected by the Resurrection Shrine in their base every 2 minutes
- You get one stack of “Mark of Dead” every time you are dead. At 4 you cannot be ressurected by the Resurrection Shrine nor by players.
- Morale boost removes 2 stacks of “Mark of Dead”.

- “Victory or Death!” – At Victory or Death NPCs (except for the Guild Thief and Guild Lord) advance to the center of the map, normally to the flag stand.
The first wave, containing few Archers and Knights leaves the base at 19 minutes.
The Guild Lord marches towards the center with rest NPCs at the 20 minute mark.
– Team deals and receives 10% more dmg

I got a lot more on my mind, but I will write them only if you guys like where I am going with this.
Mind you, this is only my wish list, a bit of things I would like to see changed, maybe some of them are interesting to you.
And yes, PvP things are based on Guild Wars, a bit of nostalgia from there.

Juking, dodging and other Advanced Gameplay skills:

Mikali.9651

- While starting animation of Pistol Whip is going, you can use steal to teleport and stun enemy, that way it’s certain to hit.
Also, if you trait for steal doing dmg, it will proc immobilize from Devourer Venom, then you are certain to do your Pistol Whip 2 times in a row.

- You can swap weapons from your inventory by double clicking on weapon in inventory. You can do it only outside the combat, but you can do it very fast and it’s great when you need speed boost or teleport from other weapon set you are not using.
(example warrior’s warhorn)

- If you are able to use blind, use it on downed foe, he will not be able to interrupt you.

- Don’t stay in your place fighting enemy, move around him. I see a lot of melee just stands in place or is chasing enemy hitting him from back.
Move around with your target.
Circle around it, you will be suprised how many attacks you will “dodge” that way, couple that with dodge and you will reduce their dmg output by much more.
Also, try to be in front of a target that wants escape, instead of hitting it from back.

In options, 2 things should be changed from optional:
1. Double-Tap to Evade on
2. Autotargeting off

Also, Fast-Cast Ground Targeting is a great thing to have

Mikali.9651

Why on earth do you want ‘rewards’ for doing what you like?
If you like pvp, case closed. You do it
If you dont like pvp, why are you doing it?

Once the ranking system will be in place I hope the ‘purpose’ of pvping will be clear to most of you…

Until then, my question stands.

I don’t know for others, but my reward is my progress.
Keeping a track of my progress, how good I am, how much do I have to train to become better.
You can’t be better if there is no competition, you can’t know how good you are if you don’t have tools to show it to you.

I am kind of PvPer that you can call hardcore, or in other words, competitive.
Not every PvPer is like that, a lot of them are casual who just like killing others and have fun.

My fun is my progress. While I was playing cs:s I was casual one at first, then I have learned there is so called cw=clan war.
First time I got into team that played it, casualy, I fell in love with it.
I was driven into mindset of competitive PvPer, I wanted to play and to win vs better teams.
I trained a lot. Yes, there was time I didn’t have so much fun, there isn’t much fun in playing DM or aim maps 1-2 hours a day, but when I started to learn tactics, counter tactics and all other tricks, like how to use usefull flashes, smokes etc., I had lot of fun.

PvP in this game is casual at this moment. It isn’t competitive.
To make it competitive you have to have ranks, you have to have range of skills, you have to have progression.

If you are learning to play guitar, and you just learnt playing with chords and your friends liked it and praised you, that would be it. End of your progression.
But, if you would have listened to solo guitar players, or fingerstyle players, then you would want to be like them. And you would start your progression again, you would now have a purpose to do it.

That is what we want! And please understand it.
I know a lot of you here are casual, who don’t understand the mindstate of competitive player, you maybe even call us geeks, or weird, or no lifers, but it’s not the whole picture, it’s very shallow one.

I myself have hobbies 5 days a week, singing classes, dancing classes, I am teaching others how to play guitar, I am in collegue, I am seeing with my girlfriend almost every day.
And I still play this game, or any other game for hours a day, watching tv shows, reading forums.

I am probably working a lot more then you ever did while not having a job, but I still can put 5 hours a day in games.

Don’t judge what you don’t know.
I want this 5 hours, sometimes less, some days I don’t even play, but! I want them to have a purpose!
You have your fun being casual, and this game is perfect for it.
My fun is brainstorming ideas, tactics and builds, which I can’t do in this game at this state.
Only thing we want is to have this possible for us.

We don’t have it, even tho it was promised to us. Yes, that makes us angry, that makes us QQ on forums and it’s only because we like gw2, we wouldn’t bother otherwise.

Thank you for reading.

Look buddy, I admire your post. I can see your really sincere with your ideas and such… But I think you misread not only my post but the whole underlying point i was trying to make…

I mentioned, ONCE RANKING COMES OUT….that is when your ‘purpose’ will become evident. As will your ‘reward’.

It was to fill you up buddy, my bad if you though I am talking to you, giving you a lesson or w/e you understood by it

iAegis – GW2 was meant to be different from GW1 not similar. That i like about GW2 more actually.

derLoko – maybe in your opinion. I played GW1 Beta and GW1 at release + whole prophecies. It had a lot less than GW2 has.

Less but more.
Presearing Ascalon was a home.
Postsearing Ascalon made you said, videos had been made about it, bringing emotions.
When Rurik died you also felt said.

You hated those Charrs, you wanted to make your place peaceful again.
Story scenes were great and you could feel your heart beating from excite when you saw Lich!

Game was social, guilds were active.
Players and guilds in PvP had respect for their accomplishment! You knew about them, you tried to beat them down!

So much tactis has been made, so much thinking and remembering going on.
You knew almost all skills in the game, their cooldown, everything.

PvP was very active and very skilled.

Pls, don’t tell me that gw2 have more then gw1 had at release, cuz it can’t compare to social and pvp aspects gw1 had!

or we could all just go back to guild wars, get on vent, join a guild and do some gvg..and for those of you saying jumping is so great. i loved the puzzle / timing strategy behind capping flags and having no short cuts.

gw2 is zergy as hell. the downed system is awful. MOA is just ridiculous come on now. do they not know how much 10 seconds means in pvp?

targeting is poopy and i find the pve boring but i just never liked pve so you probably disagree.

i just want gvg, no downed system, random arenas, HoH, no MOA
i also think the game shouldn’t be as flashy.

there’s prob more but i haven’t played all day and i’m tired.

my heart still belongs to gw.

The targeting system is “poopy” as you say. Besides the solution that i have posted because i am assuming that you read that what is so bad about it?

“GW2 is zergy as hell” How was GW1 not zergy ?

If anything the entire system promotes zerg. You have healers, tanks and then support and dmg. The later 2 tend to stick to the first 2 ,for obvious reasons. Run into another group without your healer and tank and you already lost hence everyone stays near the healer and the tank more often then not.

This was something you saw i every MMO wthat has the holy trinity which is alo why u always heard people complain about the zergs.

The downed system , well i like it it makes for a interesting dynamic i think but sure if you dont like it then you dont like it i suppose.

I really believe that you are looking at GW1’s pvp with a idolized sense of nostalgia here.

Did you ever play gw? I doubt it.

Zerg? TANKS?? HEALER?! there was NO such things in gw1!
Monks, thank you very much!

The main difference between GW and GW2 in terms of sPvP is the amount of content. In GW you had HoH, GvG, arenas, FA/JQ.

In Guild Wars 2 you just have one game mode split into tournaments and browser PvP….

They also need a ranking system

However, I thoroughly enjoy the PvP we have. It is amazing and there is no question about its quality. Just funnily enough they need to boost the quantity (or expand).

HA, HB, RA, TA, GvG, AB, FA+JQ.
8 modes for PvP in gw1!

PvP in gw2 is a joke atm, it’s not amazing.
It’s only good for casual players, competitive ones don’t have worthy PvP mode.

i’ll have to take a look at that then >,,,> probably should have already searched for it.

We cant always know everything right !?

Good tip, I realised this thing when I was level 8 in PvE, but the problem is still losing target when it goes in stealth (problem I mentioned post above)

We are supposed to lose target when our target goes into stealth so that part at least is working correctly. If pve mobs can keep you targeted while stealthed then that does need a fix.

Same for PvP ones…

Proposed solution: give treb an extreme hp/toughness boost when friendly player is near it, forcing the enemy team to actually get the player(s) down before attacking the treb.
When no friendly players around, make treb very fragile.

So shouldn’t AI. That is what I am against.
Yet they are too overpowered, not in dmg, but in effectivness.
They keep your target even if you stealth.
They attack you in downstate even if their master doesn’t.
They attack you even if their master is attacking another player and is on other side of a map.

gw2 targeting has a tendency to drop the target and select a new target. It isn’t the worst targeting system i’ve come across but it is pretty annoying in both pve and pvp at times.

That is if you use auto targeting. as far as i know it does exactly that. You can prevent it from switching away from your initial target by enabling ‘promote skill target’ in your options. With this once you hit something with any skill it locks the target until it is gone or you change it yourself.

I use this so that may explain why i dont have the issue.

Good tip, I realised this thing when I was level 8 in PvE, but the problem is still losing target when it goes in stealth (problem I mentioned post above)

Please don’t call it spvp, call it pvp.
When you say spvp for gw1, it’s like you are saying some very very bad word :PP

Targeting in gw2 is bad and sometimes doesn’t makes sense, best example is:

Your target goes in stealth – you have to target is again.
When AI has target and it’s goes stealth – they don’t lose target!
Game breaking issue! Should be fixed asap!
AI has too much unneeded power!

GW1 started as a pvp based game and ended in a balancing train wreck, OP did you even play it?

Did you?
Your questions is unneeded, if you got something to say, then do it in more constructive way.

We are all aware what mistakes Anet did, biggest one being letting gw1 to become empty place, not caring about balance and giving us updates we needed.

PvP wasn’t wrong, balance team was, and Anet as whole making some stupid moves (Heroes in HA, etc.).

So if you have something to say, then don’t bash PvP in gw1, or gw1 itself, bash Anet for letting it down. Thank you!

LoL is both casual and competitive!
It has both!
It didn’t have strong competitive aspect until they made it possible, giving spectate mode and before that possibility to make own games.
Before spectate mode players could somehow make their tournments modes and it was like it for almost 2 years.

LoL never aimed for e-sport kind of game, with real tournaments going on, but players wanted, and Riot made it possible.

gw2 is only casual, LoL is both casual and competitive (VERY competitive).

LoL has so much better community team. They even share their status and problems they are getting into.
Even if they needed long time to do something, they did it, and we were always part of it.
QQ was always there, but we were informed when it was needed.

Anet is playing too safe, and we all can see what happened.
Too casual game.
Innovative (and I like them very much because of it) but made too casual to attract much more player base, even tho players are more competitive then casual in this kind of games.
This casuality will be bane to GW2, so it would be really smart of Anet if they start share their thoughts and plans with us.

We are all aware that things get changed while in production, and I am also sure if they share informations with us, that we will also be part of it’s changing.
It’s better to change what people like, they to do something on your own.

Best example is endurance bar (those 2 small yellow bars)which was change because one person in beta gave better alternative to what it was then.

There isn’t any argument for them not sharing informations sooner, this is a sub-free game, they will not lose anything…

Chill out mang.

I was just explaining.

Clearly you dont get it. The only reward you get for PvP is the skins. That is it. Nothing else. Your stats stay the same, everything stays the same. Only looks change. Oh and titles.

PvE is much the same. The ‘best gear’ doesnt necessarily look the best. Thats why transmute stones are in the game.

Crossing the two would mean PvE’ers can look bad kitten in PvP and vice versa without actually doing any of it.

Go ahead and ask in /m what the majority of people think.

Your wishes are almost certainly in the minority.

Feel free to drop the personal assaults thanks. We’re all adults here.

I don’t get it?

Where in the world I don’t get it? I exactly know what you are saying, and I don’t agree with you, that is all.
If I don’t agree with you that doesn’t means I don’t understand.

PvP and PvE end game is now all about getting skins, and that is bad thing.
PvP shouldn’t be like it, same as PvE. Anet says updates will come, I hope they will be good.

Only thing “I don’t get” is why you are so against skins being transmuted to other gears (PvP to PvE and vice-versa), your arguments are wrong and selfish.
PvE will not die because it, same as PvP. It will die only if this game is only about getting skins, which it is atm, and that is what is wrong in this game.

And it will not die because getting skins is easier in PvP, it will die because this game only has that (skins) to offer as it’s end game.

It’s Anet’s time to make us wrong, and get us end game we need.
Then you will see how childish is for you to be so against transmuting gears from PvP to PvE.

For me it seems like you live in a world you don’t give kitten about others, and also you don’t like to show out.
There is nothing wrong with you not wanting to show out, but it is for you not giving a kitten about others.

People wants to show what they achieved, this game only has skins (even titles can’t be shown), and if this is the only way they can show what they did, why wouldn’t they?

@Redscope.6215

Are you trying to make me a fool?

1. “I don’t get what you’re saying here. There’s a reason for separating sPvP. It creates a controlled environment to observe and balance their game.”

Where did I mention gear? I was talking about cosmetics, and only about them.
It’s foolish you can’t use them in PvE and vice-versa.
In gw1 you could use PvE gear in PvP, and noone ever complained. It didn’t have any bad influence on PvE side of a game!

I am aware about difference between PvP and PvE gear, thank you, tho is was unnecessary to mention it, seems like you are the one having hard time to understand.

2. "You’re misunderstanding him at this point. Its clear that English is not your strong point but you could at least make a better effort of understanding someone before trying to blast them in a language that is already difficult for you.

He’s saying that late-game PvE is being sold as a fashion contest and he’s not entirely wrong. Most of what you do in PvE is to look a specific way. If you allow people to bypass PvE efforts to change looks by simply going auto-leveling and buying chests, there will be no reason to complete much of the PvE content."

Did I?
“They cant do that because that would destroy the whole reason for PvP ranks ect in the first place (the looks).” – is what he wrote! So I answered him what I did, I disagree with this with all my heart.
Please, read more carefully, with better understanding.
My English isn’t as much good as I want it to be, I am working on it, I want grammar to become natural to me, but I do understand it. Something you lack, as it was shown.

3. “I’m not going to say that they won’t because anything is possible…I just don’t see it in the near future”

With this we can agree.
If community wants, there is a chance they will do it. There isn’t any real argument of not doing it, except one: Their end PvE is only about collecting cosmetics.
If they are afraid that people will stop playing PvE because PvP cosmetics being available in PvE (and they are easier to get), then there is something very wrong in their PvE.
That is the only real argument here for them not giving it as a choice

“It kills endgame PvE” – really? like there is endgame PvE in this game, farming for skins isn’t endgame. And btw, you spend same time in PvP trying to get cosmetics, so you play PvP as much as your play PvE, in other words: you play game, just on different levels.

Separating things, like this ones is foolish, it doesn’t makes any sense, exept that it shows that you are foolish.

PvP is all about getting looks, really? If Anet shares your opinion, then they are fooling themselfes, and everyone here, that this game will be E-sport.
Open your mind and stop saying nonsense.

Anet will give us choice to do both, mark my words.
It’s only a time when they make it possible, and the way Anet is doing things atm, you will need to buy “special transmution stone” with gems.

And it isn’t fine. Stop defending bad move from Anet, ty.

I believe in Anet, and I believe they will defend their reputation and get it back, cuz they are kinda losing it from me as the time goes.

4. Broken skills and broken designs

1. Mesmer

- Moa.

Skill with too long effect with also too long recharge.

I am always against skills like this. It doesn’t make their users happy because too long recharge, nor it does players against it cuz for it’s too long effect time.

What I would like to see is to lower it’s effect time to about 5 seconds, and lower it recharge to 120 seconds.
I am not balance expert, so I am just stating numbers I see fitting, just so other could understand what I want to say.
Moa is an elite skill. And it should feel like it’s elite!
When you are Moa, you are unable to do anything for that time. It’s already powerfull on itself! 5 seconds is enough time for it still being powerfull elite, making it on much lower recharge, makes it more usable, and with it, more effective.

Powerfull doesn’t mean hitting 30k in 1 hit, one shooting everyone and then making that skill on 5 min cooldown. It’s broken and unfun.
That is Moa in it’s current state.

- Phantasms.

They are too powerfull! They do too much damage! Phantasm builds give mesmer too much survivability. Yes, you can destroy them in 2-3 hits, but it doesn’t makes them less broken.
For me, it’s broken design when AI deals more damage then their master.
Mesmers are doing too low dmg on their own! A lot of skills aren’t viable because their too low dmg, and too low effect.

What I would like to see is, Mesmers getting more damage, and Phantasms to have much lower dmg, but to make them more effective in another way.
What do you think about them doing Cripple on every x attack for x seconds?
Or even chill? Protection? Stability?
It would make them much stronger in effective way!

Most Phantasems are on a 15 second cooldown before reductions. Phantasems themselves are obvious targets at they differentiate themselves from the mesmer themselves.

There are problems when it comes to balancing these issues.

First, the Phantasms, like all illusions, die quickly cutting them from their damage output and forcing the Mesmer to have to re-summon them, which catches up to them quickly as most Phantasms have a cast time which can be interrupted, as well.

Nerfing the damage of phantasms isn’t going to resolve the problem of Mesmers, as they also apply bleeds as a trait, which can be an alternate build for a Mesmer stacking condition damage.

And that’s the crux about Mesmer’s damage. It’s distributed. The Mesmer himself dosen’t do bad for damage either as Blurred Frenzy can do 5k to anything in front of the Mesmer.

I’m not opposed to taking a bit off the top, damage wise, but not until we’ve fixed a lot of the quality of life issues we’re having with other classes first. We should be making other builds more viable rather than destroying builds because we feel they’re ‘too powerful’.

Speaking on that subject. Mesmers have been stating for a while that the Mantras in the game are fairly weak, even when speced directly for them. A substantial improvement on these may attract different kinds of mesmers.

The going reccomendation for them would be that instead of having a set amount of stacks, mantras gain stacks depending on how long it’s channeled, a full channel resulting in three casts without having to trait, the trait perhaps reducing the channel time significantly.

Oh, don’t get me wrong when I say they are too powerfull. I am against them doing 0 dmg hehe. I want to see them less strong, which means not nerfing their dmg to the ground.
As I said, Mesmers themself could do more dmg and do some more effective things, things you stated.

Also, I like shatter build more then phantasm, that is what is main mesmer design, but somehow this Phantasm build become stronger then real design…that is what is bothering me – it shouldn’t have been like this

I would like to see damage conditions being able to benefit from damage multipliers( like do 5% more damage while over 90% health). Or the ability for conditions to do critical damage. Since as you said, there is a lot of passive condition removal in PvP, requiring practically no effort from the opponent.
Actively trying to get a 10+ bleed stack or a 30sec poison duration on someone takes a fair amount of effort and is frustrating when its just auto-removed by a Guardian signet. That bit of extra damage might alleviate some of the frustration and bring some more variety to condition builds.

Yes, I was thinking about that issue, as I am the person who mained sword warrior in PvE (lev 80). I tried him in PvP and it was bad.
Idea that got me was that conditions (ONLY bleed, poison, burning) do some dmg when they are stripped like that.
Damage should scale off condition damage and base weapon damage for every stack.
That way they would do moderate damage with cond dmg spec builds, and low with non cond dmg spec builds. I am not sure what numbers would be tho…

@perciles

Maybe the warrior class is the on for you. Necro isn’t so much direct and burst dmg.
I am with you when you say they need to bring down certain skills, and it will be done.
But please, don’t bash pvp so hard, it’s new and it will be changed.

There is no need to rage or bash people that tell you to learn (tho, don’t be provoked by ones that says it on bad way), this IS a time to learn. Not just necro, not just warrior.

I dislike mesmer in this game, engi seems also not my style, same as necro. But I will try them if I want grow as a player. Knowing all skills, when they work and when not will make your game time much easier.

Play every profession. That is the best advice I can give to you now, be patient with upcoming skills balances.

Try one out, they are pretty fun.

It’s the ONLY viable tactic to finish someone. Else you’ll just find yourself being dazed/knocked/whatnot’ed to death.

Stealth finishing is clever use of stealth, and the reward is appropriate.

Exactly. And they are totally balanced because they are on the mesmer and thief class.

Also on Ele. Is he now OP?

5. Competetive PvP

Should I say what we all already know?

-ELO system: we need ranks, ranks are needed for competetive atmosphere. Ranks should be able to be shown. Don’t pretend like you don’t care if they don’t know how good you are. We all need it. We need world to see how good we are. It’s what makes us feel good and like we accomplished something.
We need to be able to play against teams close to our range of skills. We need to grow stronger, and this is the only way to do it

-Spectate mode: if you want this as E sport, you gotta have this. More people there is that are learning from other, better players, that means more competition.

-Creating maps. Teams should be able to create their maps/servers to practice vs each others

-Awards. We don’t have any award. While ELO/rank gain is already what would be ward itself, we need something more.
What I really like is being able to carry PvP armor (look) in PvE/WvWvW, vice versa!
There isn’t any reason not to, and just that small change would make people happy

This are some my advices, and how I see things atm.
I am sure I didn’t write everything, I will when I remember them.

I am glad for everyone that took their time reading all this, and reading it through all my grammar mistakes.
Please write some comments and suggestions. I think it’s time to look on problems in another way, constructive and calm.

Thank you,

Mikali

4. Elementalist

They are one of the squishies professions out there, and also they aren’t doing enough damage. I am sure they will get balance update, to make certain skills stronger (even tho when you combine skills they can deal great damage output).

There are few skills that should be changed in another way then in damage:

1. Lightning Whip and Lightning Touch.
- their range is absurd. Only 300. I realise it’s a dagger weapon, but it still doesn’t make sense for it being so low range. I would like if it becomes 400, with Ele being so squishy, and unable to change weapon sets, being all the time in face to face with hard hitting professions, unable to deal dps while straffing on safe distance makes this 2 skills useless to use.
At least, that’s how I see them.

2. Blinding Flash
- too long animation, too long duration to get that blind there.
Blind should be instant imo, it would make this skill effective.
You don’t need blind 2 seconds after Thief comes to burst you, you need it instantly.

3. Elite skills

While I didn’t play ele as much I should to make clear statement, I feel like Ele needs some look on it’s elite skills.
Tornado is nice skill, but with long cooldown, long duration and I believe it doesn’t launch people with stability on.
Less duration, less CD. Would be more effective (Moa effect).

Glyph of Elementals. Doesn’t have that Elite skill effect. It’s great skill, but I feel like Ele needs some more effective elite skill.
Skills like Blinding Surge (gw1 elite skill) that would blind everyone in AoE.
Or Chill everyone.
I would like to see them having range AoE CC skill.

5. Guardian

Too much defense, too strong attacks. Balance issue, will be fixed in time.
Lack of real range attack is what kinda bothers me, tho not so much.
At least, not in PvP (this isn’t PvE thread, but why not mention it).
I’ll just say, orb of light is too slow.

What I don’t like is, their elite skills. They change all of your skills. Fine, but why 2/3 of elite skills, 3rd being stupid one (why it even exists?).
I would like to see them having elite skill that doesn’t change their all weapon skills.
I think you will agree on this with me.

6. Ranger, Engi, Necro

I didn’t play those in PvP, I will in next days.
I can only comment what I did see, but not much.

Ranger pets are doing too much damage, while Ranger itself doesn’t. Pets are following their target for too long range, it should be limited!
Ranger in melee doesn’t work so good in PvP, something must be done about it.
They should be able to do effective in melee range, as well in range.

Engi. I’m smilling when I see good Engi. At the beggining Engi was once of the most “UP” profession, but in time people learned how to play them, and they can give me a lot of hard time.
I am sure there are bugs to be fixed, skills to be balanced, made more stronger, or less strong, or less spammable.
You know them better, so please write something constructive about them.
I would like to know their problems.

Necro. I’m kinda sad I didn’t try them out. People are crying about them on this forums, but in PvP they are the ones that takes me longest to kill.
DS is strong. Problem is, a lot of players are using it just before they are about to die. A lot of players take my full combo without them being in DS.
There is nothing more frustrative when you are guardian with 6 boons and necro strips them all making them into conditions. STRONG. And I like it.
I see necro as they were in gw1: they are not here to deal insane amount of damage, they are here to make your strong points in you weakness, and I like it.

Lich Form, Minion Masters…they need something, they never ever gave me any problem.

4. Broken skills and broken designs

1. Mesmer

2. Thief

- I played mostly thief, never as HS one, but as pw (pistol whip) one.
They are strong as burst damage dealers, but they are also kinda broken.
Their design is what makes them broken, initiative and no CD makes them very spammable. That is why they are the hardest ones to balance in carefull way. Let’s say, the most trickiest ones to balance. That is why they should be approached very carefully when balancing them.

I don’t see them very OP. They do have some skills, and some builds that are very strong yes, but they aren’t so OP to cry on forum for days.

Problem with them is this:
1 skill is doing too much damage on it’s own, while others don’t. This is the real problem. Skills should be balanced in damage, in that way that spamming one skill isn’t as effective as to use chain of skills which needs much more skill to pull off.
If Anet and their balance team can pull this off, Thiefs will be very enjoyable to play, because they got so much good skills, and even utility skills are great (which some of them aren’t used as much because all this powerhouse spam atm).

Also, haste, with this design, is problem and makes thief “OP”, even tho it has very strong dimishing result. If they balance skills, I think it wouldn’t be that much of a big problem.

3. Warrior

HS build is the only way you can really burst someone down. Even then, you gotta use your full combo to make it effective.
Other warrior builds don’t do enough damage, sword comes 1st on my mind, same as mace mainhand.

I do realise that sword is bleeding damage, but it’s low damage without bleeding makes them broken.
When you have stacks of bleeding on opponent, yet, it’s effective, but the problem with design is: condition removals are too strong in this game. They come in all forms, as skills, as traits, or as sigils.
That is why sword and bleeding dmg while never be effective in PvP unless it’s changed.
Give sword more base damage, and make flurry deals more damage on it’s own.
Bleeds are only good if they are stacked. Sword builds are yes or no. They aren’t “effective”.

Mace is great for stuns, same as hammer. They are nice control weapons, but the problem is they are also too low on dmg, or too slow.
Give them more faster animations, or more base damage, or more base skill damage.
They don’t need to do burst damage, but dps should be felt.

Same thing is with other weapons.

Most balanced weapon is Axe mainhand. Other aren’t far away, just few changes here and there and they are effective to use.

Why am I saying this? Because warriors are mostly melee, and if they are, then need to be tanky, that means they aren’t doing all power, and if they aren’t doing all power, they aren’t doing enough damage.

That’s way I am okay with Longbow and Rifle not having too strong base attacks, because they are ranged weapons, but melee weapons should have it.

Mikali.9651

Hi!

I’m Mikali, a gw2 player like you. I would like to share some concerns with you, and some things I would like to see be changed.
What I want is, to be this less “x is OP” and more “x should be changed in this way” or “I don’t really understand x” way to deal with problems in PvP.

Let’s start with base:

- sPvP

1. 8vs8

- In the begging I didn’t like this massive number of players on those small maps. It makes it zerg play, and very untactical.
Now, after more then 300 games won, I realised it’s kinda nice to have some mess fights! When you are in mess, you should be more aware of things if you are kinda competetive and you want die less, and get more points.
It also is kinda casual, you can play w/e you want and noone will say anything about it.
It’s a base PvP where people are trying out their builds.

- What I do want to be changed is more reward for winning. Atm the bonus win is about one player kill. Problem with this is people don’t care about holding points, which is crucial part of tPvP.
Some rewarding points should be changed.
Autobalance is another thing that players don’t like. Well, maybe that is why bonus points for win are so low, you don’t lose a lot of points if you lose match.
Tho, I would like if there can be made some balance, for example:

15 bonus win for every 50 points you got, 10 if you didn’t win.
Also, there should be more points for defending the point, for example:
Every 20 seconds you stay defending you get 2 points, every 10 seconds there is a fight on defending point you get 3 points.

2. Raid on the Capricorn

Sharks are big problem. There is too many of them, and they do too much damage.
There are some classes that can evade their attacks and go for an easy cap (thief), or for much easier cap then other professions (Engi, Guardian with Hammer of Wisdom)

How to fix this problem?

1. reduce number of sharks
2. reduce their dmg OR make them unable to crit. That way you can always know how much dmg can they do to you.

3. random 5vs5 and elo

Another big thing players want is random 5vs5, where they can learn for tournaments in more casual way then it is there.
Anet said something about them making it possible, so for this we should wait for their blog post in incoming days.

3. Minions, AI, pets and downstate

This is the biggest part in this game I am all for not existing in the 1st place!
Minions/AI/pets attacking players in the downstate.

Lot of time I could healed myself and even maybe survived enough long in downstate while my partner deals with our enemy. But! It didn’t happen because AI doesn’t let you…
If there is downstate, then players, and only players should be ones that will finish you off.

Same thing is with Stealth.
If you, as a player lose target when it went to Stealth mode, and need to target it again once your enemy is out of it, then should AI too.
It’s just broken for AI to continue attacking Stealthed enemy once they are out of it. They should attack only when their Master attacks or commands them again.

AI has too much unneeded power.

It really bothers you? heheh, I find that very smart and skilled to do…not a lot of players will do that.
Same for example when Ele goes in Mist Form to finish you so he can’t be interrupted! OPS, I gave you one pro tip, oh well…

Once you learn how to play ...

in PvP

Posted by: Mikali.9651

Mikali.9651

You are so wrong. Let me enlight you.

You MUST learn how to play! NOT only the profession you play, but every one there is. Alright, you don’t have to be really good at all professions, but you should learn every skill there is for every class!
How do you think you will not get stunned by Ele if you attack them while they are having Shocking Aura? I will answer you: by not attacking them while they have it!

Same with Mesmer’s Chaos Armor and Chaos Storm! Don’t attack them when they got Chaos Armor and don’t stay in Chaos Storm…

You say Mesmer’s downstate is OP? It’s always CLONE first, and then Mesmer himself! He even has red arrow pointing he is the real one, how much easier you want it to be?

HB OP? Not at all! It’s synergy with skills that makes it “OP”. Yes, he can burst you down in 1 second if you are glass cannon (why are you? Make somekittendefense in PvP).
But! There are things that counter his combo!
One of them is stun break! Why don’t you guys take stun breaker? It’s like one skill that is always needed! Use that skill, use dodge and warrior can only autoattack you because his combo will not be up again in another 60 seconds!

Btw, warriors need some love, greatsword is like the only build that can really deal damage…and is also glass cannon.
Don’t you dare talk that warrior is OP, he is far from that!
I can agree with haste being kinda OP, but it also has dimishing results (warrior takes +50% dmg, thief can’t dodge after it).

Another thing, you are all about power and power. I want big numbers! That’s you.
Well, then play class that is designed to do it. Necro isn’t!

Necro is control class, same as Engineer, Elementalist (more like supportive, tho they are the 1st on line to get buffs cuz their dmg is too low)…

Necro could use some love, tho most important thing is to fix bugs. When they are fixed, Necro will be smoother and much better to play, and will be more effective.

Btw, Necro is kinda bad in this “meta”. He mostly does condition dmg, and there are a lot of condition removals, that is why Necro isn’t so effective in sPvP.

Everyone saying that Necro dealt massive dmg in GW1 is wrong! It was bloodspike with 8 Necros!! Not one!
Necro was always there to make harder for others to do their job, and it follows same routine in gw2!

If you don’t want to learn, and you don’t want say what bothers you in a constructive way, and you don’t want realise some professions are made for some things, other for other things and that they all aren’t effective in all things, then you are really lazy person and also close minded.
