Once people learn to not stand in the Sand Shades, I think you’ll find Scourge is really not very strong. Torch is fine, but the Punishment skills and survival tools are incredibly weak. Its only real defense is killing your opponent before they can kill you (which, admittedly, it’s very good at if they stand near a shade).
And then Scourges will adapt and place their shades to force you into a path you don’t want to go. And if you keep moving, good luck surviving intense torment stacks.
Considering the long charge recovery for shades and the tiny area they actually effect, they really can’t do much to “force you into a path you don’t want to go.” Sure, they can cut off going left, but you can go right just as easily. If you aren’t standing on the shades, you aren’t getting those “intense torment stacks” either.
and while you are doing that Scourge decaps and caps and prevents you from doing it. Good job walking around trying to survive!
Oh, so now the Scourge dropped all the shades on point? I thought they were using them to change your path? They don’t get to do both.
If they drop them all on point, cool. Just kill them at range and take the free point.
mmm yes, cuz every profession is range

I agree scourge is powerful right now with the right builds but let’s atleast be constructive about it. Can’t have group support and condi damage at the same time? That logic is pretty ridiculous, take a look at condi chrono or mallyx revenant. Both of those have great condi burst and tons of group support that people actually want, not to mention they both have tons of mobility and survivability which scourge does not.
because we are not all Necro Mains like you. But we will be!
Hi, I would like to share with you a build with which I am finally having good results!
1st Weapon set: Dagger/Axe
sigils: Revocation, Absorption
2nd Weapon set: Mace/Dagger
sigils: Fallibility, Absorption
Demolisher Amulet/Rune of Lyssa
skills: Mending – optional – Balanced Stance – Featherfoot Grace – optional elite
optional skills: doylak signet (vs bursty composition), signet of stamina (vs. scourges hate), other
optional elite skill: signet of rage (with lyssa runes), winds
Traits:
Discipline: 2-3-1
Defense: 2-3-2; traits can be changed depending on the situation
Spellbreaker: 2-2-2; traits can be changed depending on the situation
With this setup, I have great amount of conditions clear, stability, swiftness (mobility) and even burst damage together with blocks and stun/interrupts. Quickness from Axe 4th is great in combination with leap skills.
It mostly comes to the weapon skills and the way I’ve combined them. In each, there is a burst damage skill and mobility while also defense, block or stun. Very balanced on offense and defense!
I do not enjoy Endure pain, it takes away utility and trait slot, I would rather have 20% stun increase (the answer on why I am using Fallibility sigil) and one extra utility slot to counter enemy composition.
For that reason, and the reason that burst damage is very high atm, I take Demolisher Amulet which can be combined with Doylak Signet for extra Toughness and stability. Rousing Resilience can also be taken against bursty composition instead of Cleansing Ire.
It all depends on who is your enemy and with this setup I have options against both conds or burst dmg.
That being said, this is just what works for me atm, I am looking forward to your builds!
(edited by Mikali.9651)
alright, let’s do it:
Dagger weapon skills:
1. Autoattack -+30% Base Damage¸ Critical Damage Increase from 15 to 10%
2. Aura Slicer – faster animation, range: 450, slow: 2 sec
3. Disrupting Stab – Now have 2 stages. The first one is the original skill, the second one is Wastrel’s Ruin
4. Twin Moon Strike – Damage (2x): x (half of the Axe’s Dual Strike) – remove condition with each strike – heal for x for every condition removed, cooldown 10 sec
5. Bladestorm – damage increase 10%, range 450, grants swiftness to up to 5 nearby allies
6. Breaching Strike: faster animation
Traits:
No Escape: Immobilize opponent (0.5 sec) after daze and stun you apply are gone
Sun and Moon Style – Gain bonuses for each dagger (max 2) you have (now counts both weapon sets), which means you can have both bonuses even if you wield one dagger per weapon set.
for the first time in 5 years, I will main Necro and I will get to Legendary rank as the worst PvP player you have ever seen while barely doing anything. Maybe I will even eat sandwich while fighting people
Yeah, at its current state it is very OP, so OP that it makes me main it even tho I never ever wanted to play Necro. But you got me, I would be crazy not to play it
#Scourge – HowToGetNecroMains101
Ok.
Here’s the preliminary feedback for evening 1 of the demo weekend.
Spellbreaker is bland, boring, low mobility, low sustain and low damage spec.
All it can really do is remove boons, but that doesn’t stop the train of damage comming your way.
I am terribly disappointed. Especially when I looked to other specs like Deadeye.Thank you ArenaNet for allowing us to have this demo weekend that way we can know weather to buy the expansion or not. And it’s the later for me.
LOL! Awww man. You actually cause a metaphorical tear to fall from eye with the contrast from ur OP. Felt like seeing a kid see his hero irl for the first time, and getting kittened on with every conceivable reality of the world.
I’d give you a hug if I could. I’d even put on a fluffy furry costume and give you a hug if it would help
Life leets you done sometimes, huh.
Holosmith srsly was swwwwwwweeeeeet tho when i tried it. It sucks we gotta relearn an entire new class and synergy but….its an option (so long as we get past the adventure box theme)!
why are you provoking other people?
I’m not? Why are you misinterpreting things in such a negative way?
Are you trying to provoke me? I srsly would feel inclined to give him/her a hug if I could…..the contrast and disappointment I felt between their posts really made me feel bad for them.
sry but I don’t think any word you have just written is honest. I do not like sarcasm for no reason. Keep civil discussion
Ok.

Same as you, dagger’s auto-attack deals too low damage, 2 is very slow animation, skill 3 and 4 are good, and this 5, while I do like swiftness a lot, it doesn’t really do great amount of damage. So far, axe auto-attack > spellbreaker damage.
Dagger needs more damage on autoattacks and 5th skill, with faster animation on 2nd skill.
Might Makes Right doesn’t work well with daggers, or the spec, there is not enough might gain with Spellbreaker spec
what slow casting with such huge amount of quickness? Are you even reading skills? seriously.
I agree. damage is too low on auto-attack, easily interrupted elite and heal, bladestorm doesn’t really do any good damage. So far, Axe auto-attack>spellbreaker.
I guess it has tricks to outplay, but I am not convinced
What a terrible QQ thread. Lies, lies and more lies. At least be honest when you are complaining, this is just ridiculous, and there can’t be discussion when the premise is a lie and is a wrong statement
Btw check the mantras cast time
ummm yeah….check Quickness, I mean, just read the description
Which new maps and how much currency I could get in an hour? I need more information. Can I get enough currency within 2 days to get one ascended ring? Or do I get like 10-20 currency per day so I would need 10-15 days just for one ascended ring?
Can I get full ascended trinket gear in 10 days, playing 2 hours per day on those maps? I need some real insight
I haven’t played actively for quite a few months, just doing LW story with some side fun. I didn’t get high into fractals or raids.
Now I see that in order to get new stat combos in HoT and LS3 I cannot get most of the trinkets with Laurels merchants.
So my question is, in order to get full ascended or exotic gear with e.g. Seraph stats, the best way would be to get items with selectable stats, right?
For ascended gear, I thought to play WvW and get Armor pieces that way, while for Weapons I would do PvP league. I am not sure for trinkets tho, it seems like PvE maps are quite a farm and it needs a long time to get enough materials! How viable is crafting? Can trinkets be crafted at all?
I need your help because I’ve only cared about the Berserker stat which has plenty ways to get it from, so I am lost in how to acquire gear with new stats.
If you are to gear up your character with Seraph’s or Viper’s gear, how would you do it? (not including Raids and High Fractals).
I would like to be prepared until the expansion comes, so we are looking a period of a month time to gear up.
Thanks in advance!
yess!! that’s the one! It made me so hyped about guardian class and wvw Thank you a lot!
he was the real deal! A kitten and a great mentor, with whom I could connect and grow in character.
There is not a single NPC in today’s LS and HoT expansion like him, they all fall short and I can’t connect with anyone
Well, as always, everything story-wise is rushed… Too many things, for a really short time happen. That is something you guys should work on, on making a pace that feels like a natural progression!
From the point of a story, I liked it a lot, twists, a lot of lore got covered (!), many things I, as a gw1 player since 2005, wondered about the “gw1” universe since it stopped getting updates.
The map is fine! Very creative, it feels fresh but still has a bit of older vibe, and it’s huuuuge in verticality! I like seeing NPC workers doing all kind of works and telling their stories, even more, when you can enter the prison near Risen Lowlands (too funny xD) – little things like this make me explore more and really be thankful for your time and passion you are putting into the game, even if I do not like a lot of things you are doing with the pacing of a story, it has been a huge problem for me since the HoT release!
A lot of caverns and little places on a map, it has that mysterious feeling – I just like the overall design of a map, even tho I will never really like events and meta events on them, it’s just a one-time thing for me, sadly.
I’ve enjoyed jumping puzzle a lot and I got scared haha, I would say it was my best experience in gw2 in last 10 months!
And even tho I do like map design, I must tell you that you should be careful of overusing updrafts! I hope expansion map doesn’t have them that many because it is kinda annoying, it breaks immersion a lot for me. For some maps and parts, I can understand updrafts, but not in such a huge number! You guys are creative, don’t use it up on updrafts! It really makes me lazy, I do not explore as much because of it, gliding is just too awesome… xD
I did like story puzzles, even tho I needed some time to understand the tricks. I am all for puzzles, I love them, but I do feel that there were too many for such a short playtime, gotta balance it a bit more! This is after all MMORPG, not a puzzle game. Better focus on more storytelling, a better pace, than on mechanics.
I did like how you’ve used “radio” to give us more lore answers, interactions like that are really nice, even more, when you are playing “filler events” to progress the story – it makes them so much more interesting and they actually feel like a part of a story and not just a trick to make people play the events on a map!
Legendary weapons are great, you made me think twice which legendary sword will I go for, Bolt still wins in my eyes in terms of the design, even tho new legendary sword has a real story behind it! THAT is a great step forward for legendary items! Connecting them to the story and the lore!
Ending cinematic was very well done, it has an epic feeling, energy, and emotions behind it! With it, you set a bar for 2nd expansion a bit higher than I’ve wanted! It doesn’t mean I am more hyped, it is just that I know that you can do great story telling, cinematic scenes and more serious/dangerous atmosphere that you’ve shown us with HoT and LS3. Be careful of story pacing, it needs to be an adventure, fully immersive, not just shortcuts on shortcuts!
can someone post a video showing how it works when changed?
I can’t wait for the Prophecy of Forgotten expansion reveal! finally!
Oh, my, sword looks amazing but I have to see actual particles in-game!
The only reason I haven’t yet made Bolt was that I was waiting for the new legendary sword, but now that Bolt has custom particles…I have to see how much they change and influence it’s look and feel!
Yeah, now I am feeling like I am choosing a starter pokemon…thanks Anet xD
It is just for a nostalgia trip because that video made me choose Guardian as the main class.
It’s a video from years ago, I think 2012 or 2013, WvW Guardian Outnumbered (those videos were cool because not many of us knew how to build characters at all).
One of the songs on that video is “I need a hero”, a player is playing Guardian with a hammer and a legendary greatsword, with divinity runes, and if I remember correctly, it is an AH build.
If anyone remembers it and can find the video I would be very thankful
maybe watch some videos of the boss kills so you’re not completely clueless and then find some friendly group. alternatively stop being so touchy, its the internet.
that’s completely useless comment for that situation that happened to me, I was only looking for a guild to start raiding and it happened that I was invited and being told they will tell me all the mechanics. Then they did what they did.
As a matter of fact, I even did watch the encounter for that boss. Nothing I did was wrong, except the fact it could have been mechanically better…but it’s a matter of muscle memory.
And even here I am seeing comments from people who are trying to put the blame on me by saying toughness isn’t 1000. And that guardians shouldn’t be played even if he has complete meta build.
That being said, should I really go level up completely new class, grind HoT to get Elite, to be able to kill bosses few seconds faster? And when a new patch comes and another class becomes top at DPS I should do the same thing again?
I didn’t think we are setting the new speed records in raids.
Is Warrior viable? Or Thief? Cuz I am not gonna play spellcasters ever, I only like melee.
Should I maybe also buy a new mouse and a keyboard for more precise movements to get 0,2% more DPS?
My first Raid run made me think why should I even bother with it.
After I’ve seen Ghostly infusions I’ve decided to give Raids a try, so I wrote this in LFG:
" LF training guild for raids "
a few moments later I was invited to a squad party, where they’ve said I will do VG with them and that I do not worry, they will explain me all.
fast forward first 2 small bosses, we group up for the last one. Then the comments come:
“if you plan to do raids, don’t play a Guardian”
I said, “umm…oke?”
the vote to start the last boss started, I was instant killed. Some laughed, and some said: why did you stay outside the boundaries. Then after me saying I do not know what happened, they’ve explained that you get instantly killed if you aren’t within a circle, ending with “haha, now you know”.
I mean okay…let them have some fun, I guess…
Ok, boss started, first part till 66% was all good, 2nd part started, VG got out of a group somewhere ahead of us, 6 of them got instantly downed, I died on purpose also cuz it’s “/gg” right?
After it they started asking me what was my toughness, like 2-3 times in a row in a second, I answered 1000 toughness. And I was kicked.
I have exactly build from here, full ascended, runes, sigils, food: http://qtfy.eu/build/guardian – Scepter/Torch + Greatsword Guardian build
…and I am following the rotation explained there
…and yet I get comments like why am I playing a guardian, then a blame for their mistake (but I guess they had to blame someone) and just completely rude experience even when I was only looking for a raid guild to teach me raids.
If you guys are like this, I do not want to be part of it.
nah, they don’t even enough money to give their employees normal salary, they are underpaid…
I am sorry but that is just not true. I would like to see kids having faster reaction then me, still, in my 26 I am at top of human reaction speed, no matter which application I use to measure it.
no matter which pvp game I play, if I put my will, I will get to higher tier. I wouldn’t ignore older gamers if I were you, we are still a very great threat.
but I will tell you the real reason why we leave top tier, go casual or stop playing competitively. It’s because we have to live, we have to study, get a job, become a man or a woman and not stay kids.
Our mentality changes, our relationship with games. We don’t have as much need as before to put hours and hours into games, we start to see it a waste of time to play for 10 hours a day. Our relationships change, they become more serious, we make family, we get kids or we pursue carrier, and with that we just don’ t have time and need to risk real life for top tier gaming.
as 26 years old man, I cannot allow myself to put all my time into gaming or I would feel useless. I have to cook, I have to buy things, I have to shop, I have to work and I have to nurture my love and family life.
But I am still a threat and I will give you hell of a time if I put my mind to it

personally, no. They are all the same thing, zerg fest, particle effects, 0 skill involved, and I don’t really see any party play. So yeah.
I would rather like they put resources into actually making story play, maybe even more instanced play like in Core GW2, more reasons for party play which are story telling focused (and not fractals).
That is my main issue with HoT, story which is done in one day, kinda rushed in some parts, it’s not fluid at all…I would rather 10 more chapters then Meta Events
I think dungeons were actually great (AC in my heart forever), if only they were worked on more, and if story telling was made in that way…
Also World Bosses could be so much more expanded and connected with story and the world, and I do enjoy playing them, even if they are also zerg fest, but actually some have nice mechanics
I dunno man, Open World Meta Events are just crazy boring for me, I have no fun at all, only reason I play is cuz unique currencies and items from those maps, tbh, I feel cheated playing them.
But yeah, let’s kill all the White Mantle!! That I am always for!
(edited by Mikali.9651)
It was very easy, but the camera did mess with my head and put strain on my eyes!
I’ve played in my berserker gear, and all I had to do was press Special ability in time and avoid all the circles and telegraphic attacks. Interesting fight, medium difficulty, I had fun!
learn to play issue. use special ability.
kill mobs first. avoid small elementals. run in circle, pick bloodstone and throw. spam that till your break bar. repeat.
(edited by Mikali.9651)
The are playing with us, and that’s not really nice
pls, write more of this prediction threads! Here, I will now drink beer in your name! Arden The Fortune Teller, One That Was Always Wrong! Cheers!
almost isn’t the same as it was true so I don’t care. I predict next 2 dragons are destroyed. I also like to play games of predictions, so I will make thread where I will state if my prediction was good!
I’ve finished it in 2 days playing ranked PvP with less then 50% win ratio.
The reward system of PVP Season 5 was terrible and I really hope it will change in Season 6. Allowing everyone to get full Ascended in a couple of days, without actually playing the game, and without giving any resources (like gold/materials) wasn’t a very good decision.
And btw each HoT zone has unique skin rewards, weapons and/or armor, each zone has unique meta events and a different story. There are lots of collection achievements that include many unique skins. Sure you finished the story and got max gear in a couple of days, that’s how the game is designed.
You finish the story quickly, you get to max level quickly, you get near-max gear (exotic) quickly (see above about the ascended armor from PVP) or at a rather slow pace (if you exclude PVP) then you play the game for the unique skins offered by the various activities it offers. That’s Guild Wars 2 and that’s how the players who play the game like it. If you want a game with constant gear progression there are many out there.
no no no no, you didn’t understand me well. I don’t like gear progression, I came from GW1 and I will love that game forever!
The problem about all those unique rewards is…I don’t need them! I already have gear look I want and I have hard time finding any other gear piece which would make it better. Weapon skins also, only Bolt is needed there to finish the look I want for my character.
It could very well be the reason I am picky and I don’t find most of the armors good looking, or it’s maybe really a truth also.
What I find content is, is more real story, I’ve expected the expansion to have weeks of content like the core had for me! I LOVE LORE
I mean, there I’ve did every heart, vista, story, dungeon stories, all dungeon paths, 100% map completion, all the armors, skills, weapons, sigils and runes. Dude, I needed 2 months of tryharding to “finish it all” and move on to other things like pvp and my dear wvw!
That is a big difference!
I do not collect every skin in the game, never did in any game, I don’t enjoy it and that’s not a content for me. But I do like awesome looking armor sets, which are all different from each others, which look good and which I would like to wear for some rpg play.
But I don’t find them in HoT, I am sorry

This is just said: Every other franchise remained stable or even made more money. But GW2 is falling and falling… But let’s face it: If you release an overpriced expansion with so little content and horrible balancing, releasing nothing for nearly a year (except raid) people leave. And it seems they struggle to retain players. A friend of mine who started the GW franchise with the Beta of GW1 in 2004 or 2005 even quit playing.
I must say that I got back to gw2 two weeks ago. I wanted to do HoT expansion (story) this time on my Guardian. I finished it in 1 day.
Then I wanted to finish my Ascended gear (I only had trinkets and Ascended coat). I’ve finished it in 2 days playing ranked PvP with less then 50% win ratio.
In 3 days I’ve finished All the expansion story and got best gear in the game.
…seriously? I’ve expected far more from expansion, but all the content out there which isn’t story is not needed for me, if I don’t even need gold to get the best gear in the game, loot drops are horrible, everything is only about gold farm, or getting ACCOUNT based drops!
…also, AH system is the worst thing to happen to this game, everything went to hell because of it (and it’s just one of the bigger issues game has)
…so yeah, there really is less and less content each time, or it’s just tedious time-gated content with unique currencies for each map and account based loot (cuz AH system broke the game) which is totally bad and unrewarding.
I still play because I want finish level 100 fractals, raids and get my Bolt. But that’s about it
So all in all you still have content from the expansion to do…
Raid is just matter of time when I do it, it’s just me personally not wanting to do it yet. Fractals I can’t call Expansion content, at all. Bolt is not expansion content. So yeah, don’t try to defend things which aren’t there to be defended
I’ll be honest, when i was told that ascended gear is the highest in the game, i asked myself “What is the point of raiding then?”
Seriously, why put yourself through raiding, wiping over and over, to what? Just say that you downed a boss? Where is the reward for the effort put it?I was actually excited when i went in with my guild for a practice raiding session and was impressed with the coordination needed and the amount of self awareness required as well to avoid dying. Only to found out that ascended gear is the best, so what exactly would i be working towards? The answer, nothing but the ability to say you downed a boss with nothing really to show for it.
Whole left side of the equipment table can be crafted
Accessories can be acquired by spending like a week collecting wood, stones, and berries. The best equipment in the game, and you never actually have to do anything dangerous to earn it.
So again, what is the point of raids? To get armor/weapon skins? While i don’t mind having some nice glamour/transmute/transmog gear, it would actually be nice to be rewarded with something even 1% more powerful then ascended.
strange how it was never a problem in gw1, with even less gear stats and farming for gear. Makes you wonder.
All in all, I blame it on 2 things. 1st being AH, 2nd one skill system in this game. With it, I can understand myself why gw1 didn’t have this problem, but gw2 does have
Challenge is needed. Different ways to do it, visible teamwork. That should be enough reward.

But that’s about it
The second reason, which is all connected to the AH, is the fact that you can’t really farm materials. Let’s do it on legendary weapon as example. When you just look at them, the way to get them, is really okay! You need 100% map completion, wvw, 250 of these materials, 250 of those…
But the materials aren’t really farmed. Farming materials got nerfed. Penalties for staying too long in one map and farming them got high. AH was and is FULL of materials. Yeah, you can’t really farm them quickly on your own, you need a lot of time, but the playerbase, yeah, when 1000s of players get loot drops and put them into AH to sell them, AH gets full. Then next wave of loot drop nerfs come! Now you can’t really farm materials at all, why bother with all those nerfs? (and even at the start, farming mats wasn’t so easy, but now it became horrible).
Just buy everything in AH! What do you need for it? Gold. Gold, gold and gold.
And quickly, game became the “What is the fastest way to farm gold?” Because all you needed was gold. And the game became unrewarding. Loot drops were horrible, penalties for staying too much in one map were too high. Champion train farm got nerfed times and times again. Soon even dungeons got nerfed!
When Ascended gear came, it was the 1st offender, and the first real factor which said Anet made a mistake with the AH. Ascnded gear came with account bounded items. Ascended gear came with time sink, ot better, time gated system.
You want to craft ascended gear? Oh well, you can’t get all the materials from AH anymore, you gotta farm them yourself, or craft them, but then you have time gated system! Have fun!
And most of the content after it became time gated, or account bound. Instead of it feeling rewarding, it became a tedious task. All because of the AH system GW2 has.
The number two factor which proves my point are the AH players. Players which get rich playing the AH, not playing the game.
You see, in a world without the AH system, things would work like this:
You farm materials you need to craft something, let’s say, again, legendary weapon.
You farm for 250 Elaborate Totems. You focus just on that!
Other person farm 250 Powerful Venom Sacs! He focuses just on farming that material because he exactly knows how to get them, how to fight those monsters and he/she enjoys farming in that place!
Now, person one need 250 Powerful Venom Sacs and has 300 Elaborate Totems. Person starts looking for someone who he could trade his Elaborate Totems for the Powerful Venom Sacs. And thus, two players are trading face-to-face, they quickly realize that they can trade again and become each other’s customer! And maybe later, even friends!
You see, AH system is the poor system. Even tho it does help someone buy and sell things faster, without the need to have conversation with others and spend too much time in towns waiting…it also can became the number one reason for the game to feel unrewarding and tedious.
In a world without AH, there maybe wouldn’t even be badly design time sinks, gold sinks, time gated content, and the game would feel more rewarding.
Now, with this AH system, game feels unrewarding – because it is! Loot drops are horrible, farming is horrible, time-gated items, and account bound items, are quickly becoming too many. Currency system unique to every map! Just for people to start farming maps and not buy everything from AH.
Why all the new content has so much currencies? Because of the AH and the importance of just farming gold!
So, here is the reason why game is unrewarding, because it is, and with each day, it’s becoming more horrible!
But all is not lost! Now that you know the reason, now you can really just have fun in the game! Accept it is how it is, and play around it, do some silly stuff, silly builds. You can get most of the things very fast, even ascended gear with pvp (the fastest way to get it). Then go play fractals, get agony infusions, get to 100 level of fractals, start doing raids, all the pve story content. Get legendary weapon, start toward legendary armor. Plenty of things to do!
Yep, it will not feel rewarding because loot drops are horrible, time and gold sinks are there, time gated system also!
But if you ignore it, you can find your fun
Also, I must tell you, stats are just stats, it itself shouldn’t feel all-or-nothing for you. Game does feel unrewarding because it would feel much better without the system we have now, but I don’t agree with your need to have even stronger gear. It’s not needed, at all. But game does feel unrewarding, but for the things I’ve told you

All this talk, and mostly it’s just defending personal statements and feel towards Ascended gear, what means to be rewarding, horizontal/vertical progression, what it means endgame etc.
And all of them don’t answer your question:
Why is the endgame so “unrewarding”?
I will answer you why is that so. And I will tell you what is the biggest offender. And then I will tell you that, sadly, it can’t be changed at all. But you will finally understand the problem GW2 has.
It is because of the Auction House. It is the number one reason for game to feel unrewarding. All the tricks Anet has, are pulled in a way towards AH.
In the beginning, AH had everything, there were no time sinkers or account bound drops like nowadays. AH was filled with all the materials!
And, everything started to get nerfed. All the drops and loot, penalties for staying too long and farming one map got increased a lot. Multiply times!
The Gold quickly became the problem of the game, AH did have, and does have, ways to sink gold, with 15% fees, but it wasn’t enough. Gems conversion went out of the control and it isn’t how it should be at all!
Even Anet was surprised how fast Exotic gear was made, and on top of that, players understood the gameplay too fast, you just needed 1 set for all the PvE. Berserker. Dungeons quickly became just ways to farm gold, not for the main reason they were: teamplay and getting different exotic gear stats. So playerbase only grinded the fastest and the easiest dungeons to amass the personal gold. And the gold in game, quickly became too much, too fast.
Those were just small % of game’s population players, but they broke the system, and they have influenced the player base. Almost everyone became aware they only needed berserker gear and that ways to farm gold were just to farm dungeons quickly. And in time, BAM, everything fell, system was down, population mentality has changed into meta battle builds. All the PvE content became too easy, just dps all the kitten down and you are good to go!

Ya I just read they have cancelled the LS as well as all other Gw2 related updates, and just gone straight to making Gw3…
if only. But this time getting rid of passive skills and whole trait system, condition system, armor sets with stats (with ONLY base defense stat) and bring back updated skill system from gw1 to better suit it for Open World! ggwp
It’s so great how we people are different, and look at the same thing with different eyes! I do have 100% map completion so I’ve been everywhere, and I still stand at game having great environment design.
One user mentioned scaling in the game, and that could be totally true! Even tho some places look big, they still feel small. Orr seems like the best designed map regarding scaling, I do not really have issue there.
Even tho some maps feel large, some meshes, or building, are just too small, or better, out of the scale, now I know that’s the real reason I can’t feel the environment! Thanks Leo G. !
Yeah, music doesn’t always fit the game, I even dare to say that soundtracks from GW1 (even tho they are awesome and work greatly for it, and nostalgia hits me over) doesn’t really fit the design of GW2. But as few of you said, you can always listen to other music.
I would say lightning still needs better work, to better feel it, shadows, light and dark places, reflections! I hope second expansion will do a bit better work (even tho one has to be careful with it, game optimization is still priority).
Yep, armors aren’t really such great design. I must say I am very impressed by the Bless Online’s armor design, it feels so good! I wish more armor designs are made that way, but we all know how much problems Anet has with creating armors, so I will hold my breathe in that department…
Yep, I think I now understand the problem I have with not feeling the environment, it’s mostly the scaling of meshes and landscape (with lightning), it’s out of proportion and not really fit!
I still enjoy playing this game, I have lots of things to do, and now that I know what is the problem for me, I can better control my feelings towards it
Well I want to be a Hero, rush in and save people in WvW, just want to be able to turn the tides on the enemy and be able to be that, “Superman” or whatever.
So I was thinking Guardian or Ranger or something, that can help people win and protect them and ensure a victory.
I am sorry to destroy your dreams, but it doesn’t work like that at all
I actually like this game and I do agree with you. It’s more about the environment I can’t really get into, if you can understand me!
Weird. I really enjoy the environment. But then again, I might be biased. XD
yeah, environment is amazing, it’s outstanding work! But I don’t really notice it or appreciate it, and I am trying to find the reasons for it. It could really be that there is too much things on the screen, how fast we travel and the way camera works. I am just trying to find if I am the only one feeling like this so it’s just my personal issue, or there is something more to it
The combat music generally doesn’t kick in until you have been fighting for a bit of time except for certain world bosses. Having that kind of music on all the time wouldn’t make any sense.
It doesn’t even have to be combat music! Just some darker, more mystic music
Opposite “problem” here. I’ve been playing GW2 since 2012 and I can’t get into OTHER MMOs anymore. And I used to be an MMO hopper before GW2!
I actually like this game and I do agree with you. It’s more about the environment I can’t really get into, if you can understand me!
I am looking at designs, graphics, maps, meshes…it’s all done in great quality. If we look how much detail is put into it, and how high fantasy it all is…it’s really an outstanding work! I am not sure I could even dream some of those environments!
That being said, I still can’t feel environment of the game! And I am not really sure what is the reason, but there are number of factors that do take away immersion and the stronger attachment to the environment.
How and which colors are used. Lightnings. Sound effects. Particle effects. Music/soundtracks. Voice overs. Player camera itself.
It seems there is just too much going on the screen, taking away from looking at/seeing the environment. Music is for the most part peaceful, doesn’t really pump up your adrenaline, so you play very calm and chill (it’s not bad itself, but I don’t ever feel the danger in the game).
Particle effects, armor coloring, armor and weapon particles…it’s maybe a bit too much shiny?
I can’t but feel numb towards environment, and I don’t think I should feel like that. As the UE4 user I know how hard is it to create some of game’s environments, how much talent you need to have for it! Level designs are on such great scale in this game, just look at all the details! Do you ever look at sky? Or down when you are at cliff?
But I still can’t feel the environment, it’s like I am just running, doing my own business, and not noticing anything at all. Unless I really just stop and walk slow (using command for my character to walk).
Does anyone else have this problem? I mean, more people there are near me, less I notice and care about environment, and I don’t think it should be that way
EDIT: Edited topic name to better describe it
(edited by Mikali.9651)
First I was Warrior main, got 100% map completion, did every story till today, but I’ve never shacked a feeling that I find it’s utility skills so boring, and weapon skills in particular. I do have Guardian and now with Dragonhunter unlocked I have a blast! That’s kinda class I enjoy play, utility skills, nice damage, blocks, protection – much more active gameplay and teamplay focused then Warrior! So, Guardian is my main atm
What I do want to ask, which class would be as great as guardian in terms of damage, team utility, some tricks and more ways to go about using different utility skills and weapons?
I am asking this cuz much have changed since HoT and elite specializations release, and I did have a break about year and a half.
Guardian is here for all my PvE content, fractals, maybe even raids, wvw; but I do want another fun class, maybe even one that is a bit on a stronger side of 1vs1 for some wvw roaming!
Thank you in advance for insights!
I don’t care at all, game isn’t sexist at all, and you should be ashamed for saying all of this. There is so many armors in the game, yet you pick some which are “problematic” for you. Grow up already and next time you are talking, show every armor there is, not just 11 sets, which aren’t bad at all.
yeah, after today’s day I am convinced that all you have to do is just play! everything comes from everywhere and there is multiple way to get something ^^ that makes it so much easier!
