So whats the wager on when BP will be all alone on the maps.

If not for the buff, they would have already killed the LDs.

Well, this week is over. As of right now BP has every. Single. Keep. And Stonemist, and 18 towers. Looks like I’ll be doing a lot of map completion until Friday.

Enough with the negative waves.

Just being realistic. We won’t even be able to fight you this week, since we’re both drowning in a sea of red. And of course Outmanned isn’t kicking in, so my repair bill is unsustainable.

And IoJ continues to cultivate its reputation. That’s not a good thing, by the way. “Don’t play for second!…even when we force you to do so, out of spite!”

Maybe we wouldn’t hate you if you didn’t cap our undefended BL repeatedly every day several times.

That makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. It’s war. You think we should play nice? You think IoJ cares about you? They’re using you to win. I hope you like being a chump.

So last week, DR had someone screaming at us, claiming that we were in a super-secret EEEVUL conspiracy to team up with one server against the third. This week we get one server mocking us precisely for not doing that against them. Then they apparently decide to team up against us. I do so love these lose-lose-lose scenarios…

How to counter get out of jail free button?

Fine. It is the least popular mode and its stats are quite different. It doesn’t change the fact that it’s irrelevant to the discussion, yet it gets dragged in to nearly every thread on thieves being overpowered.

This is the perfect thread and should be copy/pasted everywhere. The best part is where thief players admit that there isn’t really a counter and you should take the draw as a “win”, and that the reality is that a well-planned and well-played x class can’t beat a bad thief.

You don’t get loot, badges, xp, Wxp, or achievements, but you “won”.

You wasted a couple of minutes that you could have been doing other things to help your world, meaning that the thief was the one to fulfill his tactical objective, but you “won”.

The thief doesn’t have to waypoint home with damaged armor like any other class, but you “won”.

He’s still free to roam and kill the next player/dolyak/whatever he sees, but you “won”.

Instead of solo-capping that camp to the south, he’ll just change direction and take the one to the east, but you “won”.

If after all that you still don’t concede that there is a problem, you’re only lying to yourself.

And of course someone has to bring sPvP into it. Don’t. It’s almost a separate game at this point, and pretty much no one even cares about it.

Batanga and Zrii survive, as far as I know (what is it about Whispers getting all the best characters?). Tonn, yeah; he’s happily married, quirky, funny, and awesome. And the entire time I’m thinking he has just two weeks left until retirement. Seriously, why didn’t he just put on a Hawaiian shirt and say he’s a leaf on the wind?…and now I’ve made myself sad.

Would you exclude someone from a group...

Absolutely not. In fact, I’d kick the guy who wanted to exclude someone just for playing the “wrong” class. This past weekend, had a great story dungeon run on AC with a group that included a ranger, who afterwards said that it was his fastest run for that one. This ranger and another guildie met up with two random people hanging at the entrance who also wanted to do story mode (first time for me and at least one other); we worked well together, we were friendly and communicative, no one was a load, and I gave out blackberry cookies as a thank-you. Granted, that’s the first dungeon, but still. Don’t go in with preconceived notions of “the right way” to play. Do it for fun.

Actually had a good long duel with a Ferg sylvari necro in our BL tonight til another red crashed the party and I called it off. Very rare since I suck at dueling. Quite courteous, too, backing off when my staff tagged a moa by mistake. May all your minions be juicy!

Well, it’s difficult to tell because of the low video quality, but it looks like a d/d thief pulling the same cheap god mode crap that all d/d thieves do. With horrible “musical” accompaniment.

Still spying. You stay classy, IOJ. I guess a major advantage in numbers (as in, 2:1 pretty much) isn’t enough, since you spent most of it huddled in your own camp.

6th playable race, what's your top 3 pick?

in Lore

1. Kodan. They are so dignified in their fatalism. I love their names, I love hearing them talk, especially the males; both for their voice and for the things they say (“I greet you as the sun greets the morning”). True, lack of customization, but their spiritual background should offer up some interesting roleplaying possibilities.

2. Tengu. I will be very surprised if they are not the sixth race. They already have a spot on the map. Japanese flavor is always good if done well.

3. Largos, although I very much doubt that will happen. Part of the allure is their mystique; if everyone is running around as one, kinda loses the punch.

Not a choice for a playable race, but I would like to see a few more good (or neutral) centaur NPCs.

Caudacus is NOT out to set up a democracy. He might be okay with a republic…as long as it’s an oligarchic one where nobles rule. I think he just wants the crown for himself, really. He is the head of a conspiracy to betray his own nation to the centaurs by supplying them with weapons. Weapons they then use to sack and enslave Krytan villages. Kessex Hills is a war zone and settlements in the Gendarran Fields are often overrun. I wouldn’t be surprised if he was funding the Separatists, too, just to embarrass the Queen.

Outside of one lab, I don’t recall the Asura being particularly abusive to the skritt. It should also be pointed out that the skritt are kleptomaniacs who often attack to steal “shinies”, so maybe the Asura just got fed up and are trying to deal with a habitual problem.

Southsun…yeah, I kinda felt like a strikebreaker, so, okay, fair point. Although I haven’t gotten very far into it, so I’m reserving judgement.

As for the Dredge, they have legitimate grievances, but they’re taking them out on the wrong people. Their xenophobia is without justification, unlike the real-life USSR who had no reason to trust the bourgeois democracies after Britain, France, and the US sent troops to aid the White Army. Unless the Norn were helping the dwarves (specifically the evil dwarves), there is no reason for Dredge belligerence. I hope that a) we see more rebel Dredge and b) they’re DemSoc.

Some human racial skills that need buff

in Human

Naranek.3467

I think every race has a thread like this. Actually I believe the human skills are the best overall, if a bit heavy on healing (compare them to Charr’s Artillery Barrage, or three of the Norn transformations, which are terrible), although professions > race nearly every time.

For my guardian, Hounds are good; I take them when soloing in PvE (especially against vets or for skill challenges), or when I want to go full offense in WvW. Sword of Justice + Hammer of Wisdom + Hounds of Balthazar gives me 4 extra attackers and gives the enemy 4 targets to soak up damage. Prayer to Kormir is a cheap substitute for Contemplation of Purity (not nearly as good, but 40 second recharge instead of 60); in the zerg I often use Save Yourselves!, so having either one to purge conditions is a must. I learned that the hard way after pulling 22 stacks of bleed onto myself once. That hurt.

A minor request

Naranek.3467

Could we please, please, PLEASE sticky pet names even when they’re out of rotation? I know it has no effect whatsoever on gameplay, and devs are busy on more important stuff, but it’s a constant irritant. To me at least, it breaks immersion and nullifies this little bit of player creativity. I want to use Brynhildr, not “Juvenile Alpine Wolf”. But if I put her out of rotation, I have to reenter it, and since we end up with so many, for some I can’t remember what I named them in the first place.

Guardian Shield

in Guardian

Naranek.3467

I love my shield! In PvE I am usually sporting mace/shield, though recently I’ve been intentionally running more sword/focus, just for variety; in WvW I swap for scepter/shield so I can actually do something in a siege (scepter has its weaknesses, but Smite is awesome). It is probably the most fun in WvW. You pop #5 to keep your allies from getting finished, and if you’ve got Resolute Healer you’ve got 2 knockbacks. Perfect for a medic. What’s really fun, though, is to use it offensively when the enemy is trying to heal a downed player, or when they break and flee, to push them back into the rest of your squad. Yes, I am evil.

I actually don’t hate my scepter. I use it all the time in WvW, although, since it’s the only real range a guard has, you kinda have to when either attacking or defending. I think it needs a slight tweak, is all. A little faster, or a little farther, or a quicker recharge on Chains of Light (which also needs longer reach). Smite is perfect as-is.

9/10, excellent choice even if it’s an accident. A “jacquerie” was the term for peasant revolts in medieval France; if you pronounce it the same way, it makes perfect sense for a thief!

My guardian is Arturia de Leon. Playstyle, look, and everything is based on the character Saber from Fate/stay night. And yes, I immediately snatched up the new lion cub mini…

Charr Culture - More Than War?

in Charr

Posted by: Naranek.3467

Naranek.3467

To get a better feel for the Charr, it might help to look at ancient Rome. That’s what a lot of Charr society and quite a few names come from (just made my necro yesterday, named her Sempronia). Oh, and republican Rome, not imperial, which is what most people think of. Yes, it’s a martial society, but one couched in the language of civic virtue, that is, public service. I think that’s the biggest difference between Norn and Charr; Norn are heroic Germans building their personal legends, Charr are martial Romans striving for the common good.

As for what they’d do outside of war, there’s lots of options. They could be foodies. Really. They have quite an appreciation for all things meat; they like to grill; they enjoy whisky, so you could imagine a character as that guy you know (or perhaps are) who really gets into tasting the choicest single malt. Their aesthetic sense leaves something to be desired (spikes on looms and planters?), but as a technologically advanced race, they probably love tinkering, inventing, fixing stuff. So look at friends and people you know, you’ve probably got someone who can’t wait to break out the charcoal or who likes working on his/her car. Picture them as a Charr.
