Starry Night Dye with Bathazaar's Regalia bug

I had dyed my armor Starry Night (or it was this color without me noticing at first). It seems that after having removed the color from the armor and checked a different color that I do not own yet over it (Abyssal Black), the armor is now only silver. It shows as Starry Night color in the Dye selection and on my Character sheet but appears silver in-game. I can only dye the cloak Starry Night. I can change the other 2 areas with the other colors but I can’t apply Starry Night anymore . I have logged out and back in, exited the game and so on, nothing fixes it.

Clone creation tips for noobs?

I just started playing GW2 again 3 days ago (I was in the Beta and played for a few weeks when the game came out but that was it). I’ve been trying back a lot of classes and I want to focus on learning one more in depth and lvling it to 80 even though I mostly plan on doing PvP in the end (which is what I prefer).

I’m not doing too bad with the Mesmer but I must say that I’m confused as to how I’m supposed to setup my illusions for shatters. I read some guides and it still wasn’t clear. Could anyone give me basic tips on some sort of rotation or a link that would talk about it?

I was mostly running around with the Greatsword using 2 and 4 to create illusions (and the one that makes me go invis and pop a 3rd one) and eventually shatter them but it’s really not optimal. Then I remembered that with the build, I can create one when I roll on the ground. Am I supposed to roll to create clones to shatter faster or that will just leave me too vulnerable?

Overall, I think I’m supposed to shatter with daze first to apply vulnerability stacks and then quickly rebuild 3 illusions for Mind Wrack burst? Should I weapon switch to set the 3 illusions up? I read that Phantasms are best not to shatter so I should try to summon these right after I’m done with shatters?

I know my questions are very basic and that these must have been asked countless times but I just couldn’t find a link that explains how to cycle through illusions properly.

I just want to make sure. I’m used to MMOs, I played GW1 quite a bit as well as GW2 Beta and for a few weeks when it came out but then I left and just got back into it 3 days ago.

I got a lvl 23 ele, 23 Thief, 22 Mesmer and 12 Necro. I have a hard time picking which class I want to focus more on and I was testing a bit in 1v1s with some friends and Practice Matches. I fixed the sigils and runes, my specializations and abilities. I only don’t have a cloak or an amulet (none equipped I mean). I should be maxed out in these sPvP games with that right?

I just want to make sure because I can do good with Thief in 1v1 but in Practice Mode, I literally go from 100% hp to 0 under 3 seconds. I’m aware that I probably suck at Thief right now but it seems pretty extreme to the point where I just wanted to make sure that it was because I’m bad and not because I’m missing something. I don’t know engineers at all but I’ve had some that killed me from full life to zero in 1-2 seconds it seemed like.

I land a few kills here and there but even guardians drop me fast if I don’t go back invis and run away after I do 1-2 hits. Is this normal (for the possible amount of dmg I mean)? I’ve been hit by burning for 25k dmg… I have 17k health. Backstab for 7k. It just feels as if I almost get globaled. Is it that thieves can’t take more than 1 hit and absolutely must go stealth immediately when they get burning onto them to cleanse it off via spec passives or else they insta die?

It doesn’t feel that way with my Mesmer but my mesmer just has illusions so people don’t necessarely target me properly.

(It felt fine in 1v1s vs friends but they also are low lvl chars)

Lvling with a friend vs solo leveling?

If you bang the same mob for the heart, doesnt it…kinda…make…it faster?

Unless you want some kind of bonus experience for the sake of bromance.

No it doesn’t cause we normally run out of mobs and have to find crap to click on the ground, we have to find 2x more because it doesn’t share and then have to wait on the one that’s not done… so in the end, it’s faster when we’re solo.

I played during the beta, a bit when the game just came out and left a few weeks after release because of a couple of issues with this game. For example, I couldn’t even join spvp properly with friends when the whole point we were playing GW2 was for the PvP. It was difficult to land in the same instances to play together and so on. Some of these issues have been fixed over time and we’re giving GW2 a second try.

I’m not sure if it’s just me that’s too unfamiliar with the game but it feels like there is almost no point at all to level with a friend over leveling solo. It can be nice for an occasional event or boss fight, that’s about it. Most of the leveling we get are from hearts (I’m lvl 19 ATM) and it seems like we can’t complete these ’’quests’’ together. What I kill or grab doesn’t count for my friend and the same goes for him. We actually end up stealing each other’s items on the ground and having to find new ones… which leads us to split up, just each go do our own thing in our corner and taking even longer to complete the quests than if we were both soloing. Then one has to wait for the other one to be done, sometimes one player will be done and the other one is only at 60%.

So is there something I’m missing there or is it actually pointless to team up for leveling? I’m not ready at all for PvP, I have too much to relearn and getting used to my class to jump into PvP with full abilities (no low lvl PvP) and teaming up seems to only drag the lvling up longer instead of actually speeding it up. So I guess you’re stuck solo leveling (with the exception for a few dungeons here and there) to 80 in that case? I have played many MMOs (including GW1) and I don’t remember seeing anything like that before.

and you gotta love when you get these kind of lvl 11 ppl in your team, scoring 15 points while you do 270

to OP: i dont wanna be rude, but this question … was already here like 100 times

I don’t want to be rude either but this answer isn’t of any help at all. I don’t know why you assumed that I jumped into unranked or ranked matches at lvl 11 in the first place. I did play during the Beta and when the game just came out but the PvP skill cap felt low and there were many issues back then so me and my friends quit the game shortly after it came out. Some of these issues have been fixed now so I’m giving it an other try. I normally rank in the top 5-10% at least in every PvP game I play, I’ve played GW1 a lot as well as many other MMORPGs. Of course I’m bad at GW2 right now and I wouldn’t throw myself into PvP being a burden and not being used to the builds and such. However, when noobs ask basic questions and I’m good at a game, I normally give a decent answer or let someone else do it so that they can improve and I don’t get stuck in the situation you described.

Anyways, I mostly was asking that because I want to get used to the builds and practice them while I level up to 80. I prefer D/D but if it doesn’t compete with S/D or D/P for PvP, I’ll force myself to get used to the other 2 as well. So if I understand well, D/D does the best single burst dmg but its lack of mobility and survivability makes it so the other ones can do more dmg in the end.

I just got back into GW2 a few days ago. I wanted to start back from lvl 1 since I only played a bit in beta and when the game came out (Ele and Necro mostly). I made a Necro and a Thief and I prefer the Thief right now (still gotta try Mesmer and I still have my old Ele).

I’m only lvl 11 ATM and looking at PvP builds to know which skills to unlock first since I prefer PvP to PvE. It seems like the popular builds are either D/P or S/D (both with shortbow). S/D might have more mobility and control, D/P an extra teleport onto enemies with a blind and a quick interrupt.

So far, I enjoy D/D the most by far because I like to burst. The 3rd ability is nice and I like to go invis with the 5th ability and re-open with a backstab for high damage. I read that D/P has some of the best single target burst. How does D/P surpass D/D for single target burst? It seems to me like the 3 abilities you gain from the pistol are more for mobility and control (blinds, teleport and interrupt) while the Dagger in the offhand adds quite more damage.

As for the sword, it’s nice to have the extra teleport but if you’re chasing down someone, you can’t use it again or else it’ll teleport you back to where you initially were. Is there a way around this or the Thief is supposed to jump in, do a few hits and jump back to where he was at first?

Noob question about Dual Wield

What I mean is, I have Twisting Fangs only if I have no offhand equipped it seems… which makes no sense or else it’d be a skill that people only use from lvl 1-5 and then never again.

NeoSoul.4198

I played GW1 a lot, played GW2 in the Beta and only a bit when it came out but I quit early for several reasons. I decided to give the game a second try yesterday and started over from lvl 1. I think Thief seems fun to me and I’m now lvl 8 and can dual wield. I just am confused because my 3rd ability on dagger or sword seems to get replaced completely once I have a 2nd weapon in my offhand.

Twisting Fangs was one of the strongest abilities for Assassin in GW1 and one of my favorite. It’s the 3rd attack for the dagger main hand (although weaker than it was in GW1) and once I equip a pistol, it disappears. Is there something I’m missing here? Are some thieves expected to have an empty offhand? I don’t get it.

A few basic PvE questions

Nice, thanks for the answer. Now, I only wonder, if I join him over the Charr side, he’ll be doing his quests and I won’t be able to do mine so he’s going to be quite ahead on levels right?

NeoSoul.4198

So I decided to give GW2 a second try with a friend of mine (I played GW1 quite a bit, we were in GW2 beta and played it when it started but left shortly after release for a few reasons that are irrelevant to this post). I don’t know that much about PvE cause I prefer the PvP and I had only lvled to 23 on an Ele last time.

My friend wanted to make an Ele and he finds humans to be boring so he wanted us to play Charr. I made a Necro with him but I really prefer the look of humans for spell casters. I had played Necro a bit in the past as well and to be honest, I find myself incredibly bored with that class (at least early game). While my friend burns enemies down fast and AOEs everything, I take forever DoTing them with bleeds and poisons, I don’t even have minions yet but it might still not be that fun. So here are my questions:

1-What do you think are the better weapon choices or some of the better skills for lvling a Necro in PvE (we’re around lvl 8 ATM if I remember well)? I remember liking the wand better for PvP, the staff’s probably nicer for WvW but neither of them seems that great for PvE.

2-I think that I’d rather play a human Thief that I started or a human Mesmer. At which level could me and my Charr friend join up to keep questing together? How can we do it and will I be unable to continue with my own personal quests or are these just a few minor ones that I can go back and complete on my own at any time later on?

Trying to decide on a PvP class

Thanks a lot for the answers. Yea, I’m not looking to pick an OP class (I’m actually afraid of picking one of them and then the class getting nerfed hard by the time I hit 80). I know that I can play all the classes in hot join but there is just so much to learn, how to equip, what weapons, the rotations, the different builds, etc. that I feel like I’d just get lost and it’d take me forever before I’d get started on something. I just wanted to make sure that the other classes outside of Mesmer/Ele could stand a chance if you’re skilled. Necro might appeal to me if minions can also be used in PvP (it offers completely different playstyles within the same class). Thief and Mesmer are also interesting though (my friend plans on playing Ele so I should probably pick a different class than his).

NeoSoul.4198

So I decided to give GW2 a second try with a friend (I played GW1 quite a bit, was in GW2 beta and played it when it came out but quit pretty early, I only played up to lvl 23 back then).

I mostly enjoy PvP although I plan on doing PvE to 80 still to learn the class more slowly and see the environment. I played ele and a bit of necro when the game came out. I’m mostly hesitating between Warrior, Thief, Ele, Necro, Mesmer. I’m a bit curious about Guardian. I don’t think Ranger or Engeneer appeal much to me.

I’ve read the forums and wonder if people complain because they’re bad at the game or if Mesmers and Ele are truly that dominant ATM to the point where you can’t do anything about it. I usually rank in the top 5-10% in PvP in the games I play so I can play above average even though I have almost everything to relearn right now.

1-Is it true that warriors are awful right now?

2-Can’t thieves destroy casters easily with high burst? I thought that was their main purpose like the Assassin in GW1.

3-Are necro minion builds almost useless in PvP due to the mob’s AI attacking random targets? Are necros viable and not just pigeon holed into one build (I read about signet builds being a counter to ele)?

4-Can Ele still burst really hard (I remember dropping some sort of flame rock on top of people with great burst fire combos, I forget the name of the ability, I think it was with a wand) or are they mostly just about DoTs now?

5-What is Mesmer’s main weakness?

6-Are guardians good for anything in PvP or they can’t kill anyone and still end up dying, just slower?

I find mesmer does look fun to play with all the illusions but I’m worried that I’d make one, reach 80 and then that they’ll get nerfed to the ground if they’re OP like people claim them to be.

7-Finally, I’m not sure that I understand the new elite specializations for the next expansion. Is it one more talent tree? Just new abilities you can get or does it truly change the way the class plays?

Any way to join battlegrounds with a friend?

What’s unranked? I don’t remember the modes, I just remember talking to a barbarian and having a list of 50 different battlegrounds and us trying to time ourselves to enter the same one and hope that we’d be on the same team or that there’d be room on the other team to switch together.

You can join with just two people in unranked and the other spots will be filled with other players?

I had a lot of expectations for GW2 (mostly PvP since it’s what I like best) and followed it, pre-ordered and was in the beta. However, when the game came out, aside from the combat that felt a bit clunky and maybe too limited to always repeating the same combo more or less in the same order (the individual skill cap felt low and it was obvious that this game is more about team work), the number one thing that killed it for me was that I couldn’t even PvP with my friend.

I just can’t understand why it was impossible to join instanced PvP with one friend (I’m not talking about tournaments, 5v5s and such, merely the basic PvP). It just tossed us randomly into different games. Sometimes we’d manage to get on the same time and as soon as the battleground ends, it’d split us again in a new one.

I’ve been hesitant about reinstalling GW2 since I reformatted my computer and have been thinking about maybe giving it a second chance. So I want to know if there’s still no way to PvP with a friend for fun and all that you can do is PvE or maybe world PvP at one point. Also, you end up with cool looking armors but people are still just running around looking ugly all in red or blue in organized PvP?
