Server: Crystal Desert (so toxic!) | “Make CD DVD Again”
Guilds: [VII] – They let me claim stuff
The ‘Support’ link at the top of the forums (on the GuildWars2/Forums/Support/Wiki header) leads to http://en.support.guildwars2.com/ which has a mismached SSL cert. This prevents Chrome from navigating to it. It should instead link to https://help.guildwars2.com/hc/en-us.
This is a known issue that ANet is actively working on. More information here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/wuv/Long-loading-screen-in-WvW
It’d be great if you could put on restrictions, like no free accounts can pull it, or specific guilds can pull it (single guild restriction doesn’t make much sense). Right now it’s just an indicator for a possible attack.

CD held off both YB and SBI with a ton of Sup ACs while outmanned in EBG EU the other day… 4 times in a row. So it’s certainly possible to fend off blobs with the buff in place.
If the effect is you don’t see the +2 when killing an opponent, this is a very big tell and will allow an enemy to go after cap points. If you know your enemy is outnumbered, why wouldn’t you go for a keep?
This will evolve WvW tactics… have teams deployed on all maps to see where you do and do not get +2s, then go for a hard to cap objective on any map.
Have they actually split PvE and WvW skills yet?
Did you know that CD is now in Tier 3? That’s right, folks! And CD has almost passed NSP in Glicko! So come to CD and Make CD DVD Again!
@nightsparrow, yeah stereotyping certainly has hit T4 in the past. It’s not like you get more/better rewards in kitten, or T3 for that matter. It’s a bragging point, and that’s about it.
But the fights in T4 have always been great. If you’re looking for a PPT-oriented server like TC, T4 is not for you.
And lol. Yeah don’t transfer to CD. We’re already making it DVD.
Perhaps, perhaps not. But we have to go all the way down to Mag to find the ‘most active’ T1 server right now. #8 on the list. There’s no expectation that T1 will have ‘more’ activity than T2, T3, or T4 just because of a few relinks.
That’s all well and good, but given that single servers, outside of T1 and sometimes T2, isn’t a reality any longer (and last summer I was on KN w/ TC… which lasted all of three days), it’s kind of an irrelevant talking point. We have links, we have higher activity because of those links, we do better because of the guilds that the links bring.
And now CD is #1 for Kills in all of NA and EU! Who wouldn’t want to be here?!
It’s not a hardware issue and ANet as acknowledged this. When I originally started my case, I was running on an i7-2600 w/ 32GB RAM and a Samsung 840 EVO 1TB. As you may know, the 840 EVOs had a firmware bug that would cause them to slow over time, although that was not a factor in my case.
So the next round of contact was with a new machine, i7-6700k, 32GB RAM, and a Samsung 960 EVO NVMe M.2.
Well, right now you can’t get much faster than that for a single SSD (talking about 400K IOPS with ~2000MB/s transfer rate over a PCIe link). It’s really difficult to blame client hardware at that point.
Another interesting point of contention was that the waypoint bug was roughly 120 seconds when it occurred (something like 120 – 122 seconds). I recorded a video for ANet and subsequently took screenshots of another instance. A hardware issue wouldn’t be consistent between configurations nor players.
IOW, not a hardware issue. ANet will be addressing it, and I’m thankful for that.
I’m the one that raised this with ANet support. It took me months to get to where we are today with an ack from the devs, which I’m very grateful for; I created the ticket on 11/23 for reference. That said, don’t harp on ANet after they’ve said that they’re aware of it and are working on a real solution. It doesn’t help.
While I raised the invisible stuff in my ticket, it wasn’t the focus of my ticket. I’m hoping the issues are related to each other, though.
Moral of the story, make sure you ask for a Lead GM after going through the scripted tier 1 helpdesk support. While I do understand the front line must be a filter, for complex issues like this, get your escalation after complying with what the front line has asked you to do. Be courteous during the entire process, it’ll get you much farther.
Squeaky wheel, and all that.
CD is now ranked #10th! We are also #1 NA this week for Kills, #3 for Activity, and #1 for Percentage of Points from PPK!
In addition, we’ve had our first not-third-place wins the past 2 weeks, a first in 6 months!
CD is getting to that DVD paradise! Come down and join us!
[KGA] operates on SBI during your timeframe. Otherwise, come down to CD and Make CD DVD Again. Plenty of players at the very least between 23 and 0100 PST.
anyone know what is the ping limit or we can play with 4000ms ping?
You’ll be dead 4 seconds ago. If that works for you, then go for it.
No, it isn’t about processor speed. You can have an i7-6700k and experience lag, or 7xxx-series. Doesn’t matter. What matters is the server-side that has to FIFO the skill requests and communicate them to each client.
And don’t adjust the network settings via net.exe. They’re not going to help over an Internet link. They’re primarily there for WAN/LAN activities, such as high speed file transfers over SMB or similar. GW2 is going to use on the order of <128Kbps, chimney, offload, etc. isn’t going to play a factor here.
Crystal Desert goes blue last week, for the first time in something like 2 months. Crystal Desert gets second place last week, for the first time in…. 5- 6 months?
Crystal Desert is now saddled with SBI (?!) and DB (again). Crystal Desert is now Red…again. SBI should be climbing the tiers with all the guild bandwagoning going on there.
HoD, Red last week, comes in last place… is now in Tier 3.
Does glicko, skirmish score, even matter?
CD will get steamrolled by SBI. No ifs and or buts. SBI is not a Tier 4 server. They should not be down here with CD.
What’s going on, ANet? Help us understand how this type of matchup could possibly take place. This is nearly as bad as throwing FA into Tier 4 with it’s massive population, which of course steamrolled CD, twice.
CD is a great community, and I wouldn’t transfer off, but ANet you seem to be purposely placing CD in an unwinnable situation.
ANet does not host servers in Washington state. They’re near Dallas for the US zone. And the days of ‘sharing’ cable connections is long gone. Given the local node has the capacity, ‘sharing’ is a non-issue. This is not a client-side issue, unless you want to say people all over the world are experiencing the exact same problem at the exact same time playing the exact same game. No, the problem lies on ANet’s end (or really NCSoft, since they host the servers in Dallas).
Shouldn’t matter. Given skills need to be processed in order, a single threaded FIFO system on the back end makes perfect sense (imagine a multi-threaded system, where skills were processed simultaneously or potentially out of order, that wouldn’t work too well).
As someone in T4, we experience skill lag during large fights in SMC. If T3/T2/T1 experience less skill lag, I’d be surprised.
Remember, Crystal Desert wants you.
Servers are in the Texas area, IIRC.
This isn’t connection related when you have many people experiencing the same thing at the same time, unless the issue is on ANet’s end (or AWS in their case). This is most likely related to a FIFO system that would need to be in place for skills, thus skill activation taking place on a single thread and then relayed to all clients (which could be up to ~150). I haven’t personally checked, but if those skill responses are sent over TCP, that’s quite a bit of delay for each client. Of course, on UDP then you might get a bunch of angry players saying “I melted”.
Again, this isn’t connection related, though ANet’s CSRs will likely blame it on your connection, just like they blame the ~2 minute loading screens on your connection.
Crystal Desert, host of the famous four-server omni-blob and population larger than Blackgate, is looking to fill our the OCX and EU timezones with new guilds. Both time zones, but tipping more towards EU, have either few to no consistent tags, leading to increased PPT for other servers.
Crystal Desert is in the process of revival. And what gift could be better for your guild than to say “I made Crystal Desert a Tier 1 server in 2017”? In other words, Make CD DVD Again!
If you’re interested, transfers to Crystal Desert are dirt cheap! We’ve got some wonderful NA guilds who know the PPT and PPK wars. We can map queue at least two maps at a time…. And we’re flogging HoD and DB as I type!
With roughly 125g or 500 gems, you too could be part of the largest server revival in WvW history! Don’t bandwagon dead servers like SBI or TC, come on down to Tier 4 where the fights are, well, you want the Ultimate Dominator title, right? You’ll get it in T4! Just simply roll your frenemies daily, and you’ll be on top in no time. Good tags get a lot of attention for the unguilded or from minor guilds. They will follow you right into EBG Lords where you can farm your favorite server for 30 minutes to an hour (before they clue in that they’re being farmed and rq) and not even have to cap! Just look at the NA PST Stats from 1-29 of a successful tag. Of course, if you want to T3 SMC and siege it up, with you being part of the OCX and/or EU timezones, Crystal Desert will guarantee that you won’t lose it!
So come on down, potato farm with us, and perhaps enjoy a bit of PPT if that’s your thing. And don’t forget, your guild will make Crystal Desert a Tier 1 server!
I’m ready for the 1G/ecto market. And a challenging leather farm? Why does it need to be ‘challenging’? Why does it have to be group-based? It sounds like this will not solve the leather price on the TP if it requires a group-based activity.
Yeah, skill lag is going to be a server-side issue. Likely the way skills are working is a queue-based system (FIFO), most likely on a single thread server-side, and each skill action needs to be processed in order, then communicated to each client for notification on the result of the action.
There’s absolutely nothing you can do about this.
No thanks.
I like being able to use PvE equipment freely. Given there are good fights, both even and uneven on all servers, gearing doesn’t seem to be a particular large issue. Nor is ANet trying to get WvW into the ‘eSports’ arena, where gear shouldn’t decide the win, but rather player capability.
Please do not switch over to PvP style gearing system.
Regarding the WP delay bug, I have ANet case #2446125 open. While ANet support wants to narrow down on machine-specific issues, this is obviously a wide-ranging bug. Took a video (with the map info switch) which I provided ANet shows that there is a very long hang while the map loads at 84%.
Anyways, that one is out there, but ANet support has been pretty dismissive of this issue.
No one TZ is going to win a match. What you’re saying is no different from ‘go check CD OCX’.
DB does better than CD in SEA/OCX. – http://wvwstats.com/timezones. Of course, match that up with CD and FA. FA being #1 in 3 TZs. Like, what’s going on, ANet?
Sounds like a great idea… purchase a tag for everyone on the server, then let them run wild with scaled health and breakbars. /s
Just make sure you’re commander is a permastealth thief. Problem solved, right?
Are you sure? I mean, CD has been sitting in last place for 6 months now. We just need our 4 server omni-blob back again
I hope they do
Don’t know, you tell me. As it stands, CD is just stealing glicko from FA, which puts both servers in a bad position. FA needs to move out of T4.
Every morning PST I log in just to check out WvW. Every morning CD EBG keep is capped by FA, either at T1 or T2. Every morning there are about 10 CD on the entire EBG map. We essentially have to wait for FA to log before we’re even able to take the keep back thanks to FA camping it (I don’t blame them for doing so, it just shows the pop disparity).
This is a terrible matchup, for both CD and for FA. I’m not sure how ANet’s system allowed for it; a T4 performing server with what should be a T2 server… It doesn’t help that CD is paired with SF, and SF has very weak guilds. IoJ, surprisingly, is pretty dang good with two primary guilds that do PPT very well, something CD historically doesn’t do.
With FA pounding on CD, they’re more likely to stay in T4 thanks to a glicko handicap (CD took glicko from FA due to the same reason).
And CD has such an issue with coverage outside of late NA Prime, it’s not terribly funny. FA seems to produce decent sized zergs at most times of day, and even on reset had 20+ depth map queues on each map. CD can map queue EBG during NA Prime on a daily basis, and maybe have a <10 queue on CDBL at the same time. Otherwise, queue free.
Of course it’s organized. There’s no SMC potato farming without organization. It’s quite fun and worth significantly more than the PPT of the cap and hold… Not to mention the personal benefit of T6 mats.
You’re too focused on “winning”. Winning means zip, zero, nada in WvW.
There is zero, absolutely zero reward for winning. WvW is only about having fun and community. Going higher tiers is just about bandwagoning only to find out the higher tier server dropped because all of the good guilds left (see TC → SBI right now). And I’ve only heard CD be called “Christian Decency” as a joke -- ’cause we toxic… which is not poison. CD is a great place for couples!
VII SEA time is not prime time for VII. SEA gets us about 5 – 10 VII, many very new, remaining are pugs. SEA/OCX time frame is easily the weakest time frame for CD as a whole, and always has been (going back to pop balance…). Keep caps should be easy for any decent enemy during SEA/OCX.
During late NA Prime, we generally have 20 – 25 VII with good comp/builds/vets. It becomes fairly easy to farm really anyone, e.g. capping SBIs T3 SMC the other week. Cmdrs during NA Prime on SBI had a standing order to not allow VII into SMC inner, because at that point we’re just potato farming. Pugs may or may not stay on lord, but we generally don’t care if they cap.
Well, we generally just roll TIME, so I can’t say I think one way or the other about TIME. I didn’t realize you were a PvX guild, though, so the PvE map hoping makes sense.
I thought TIME spent their … time … map hoping in PvE advertising for TIME.
Here’s how CD potato farms:
CD! Get your free Spanish lessons.
SF if you want to continue your spanish course after the link end.
You’ll also learn how to KOTA stack. Just stay on tag and don’t ask questions.
And when you’re done KOTA stacking (it should only last 5 seconds), make sure waypoint to stay on tag.
CD! Get your free Spanish lessons.
T4 is where the action is at. Come to Crystal Desert. Lots of fights /and/ team chat Spanish lessons. Learn how to say “build!” in Spanish.
I am NSP. Have been since the beginning. I bounce around a lot, but that’s “home.”
How many Sup ACs can you man at once?
On CD we still have 2 or 3-way SMC lord fights that last >1 hour. It’s probably the most fun to be had in WvW (not to mention an excellent bag farm).
Well, let’s not mock the devs for saying ‘mixed’. They’re doing something we’re all wanting in some form or another in this thread — the dev messaging may not be perfect here, but the end goal is achieved.
And yes to a PPK increase.
