ROFL sorry, but SBI talking about outmanned buff in this matchup is a joke. Our best numbers can’t compare to your worst numbers so please never bring up SBI having outmanned buff in this matchup. and just because there is no outmanned buff does not mean the numbers are even.
It’s rather sad that KN is diliberately targeting SBI over YB when we see them in our BL (not that you can call it our BL since it painted green 99% of the time). I know it’s not SBI’s fault for getting this draw of matches but it’s frustrating enough that many KN players have resorted to body stomping on SBI stragglers (no not roamers, stragglers).
I’m sure SBI is having just as much fun running around with nothing to do since you guys own the maps and there is no one to fight. was hoping you guys get a better match-up before league play but it is what it is.

I would agree that you got the short end, but your server spokesman Sol has enlightened us that quality is greater than quantity. Maybe you should contact him on how to improve if you aren’t winning.
I tried searching for this Sol guy…..still have not found him. Seriously, there is no one in Kaineng, how hard can it be to find him!!
Anywho, I would say that this was a fun week, but YOU all know that saying this week has been fun would be an exaggeration. Mags, I don’t blame you guys for beating up a solo roamer, duo, triplet…you guys are probably looking for anything to kill and even if it was 1v1 the majority of you guys are still fairly good. I do want to say that you guys are sensible and enjoy a good duel without stomping the hell out of someone (though one of your runners did come by, attack me during a duel so 2v1 for a bit and stomped me without realizing I was in duel on a good note, he came by and cried by my dead body afterwards when he realized what he had done lol)
Overall, SWaG and iLL, you guys sure like to run together, I don’t think we ever had a zerg the same size as your two guilds this whole week (biggest group I saw on KBL was like 13 people lol). AzN, nice to see some new guilds from Mag getting in some action, but don’t pick on the small guy anymore lol. ARK, I like your style, it sucks being on the receiving end of the stick, but I guess if I’m gonna get beat, might as well be beat with a big stick lol (it’s better to die fast than to run away and realize your opponents were letting you run but not let you get away)
EE from Ebay, you guys were the only group that I consistently ran into. You guys really like to guard your yaks lol. Nonetheless, it was fun fighting you guys as well. Though the match itself was not too fun, it’s always nice seeing Mags, only this time we’re 10X weaker than we were the last time we met. Good luck on your next match and both servers, stop bullying Kaineng. We’re going to join our buddies in T8 now

Ark – I agree with you for what it’s worth. For as long as I can think of, WvW was not meant to be “balanced” to begin with. If you wanted more “balance” and “equality” go play sPvP/tPvP where there’s no buffs, foods, armor stats, etc. Playing with the the stat buff is not too different from fighting against an opponent who uses foods and utilities like crystals/stones/oils. I for one have not experienced much change in my ability to die or kill an opponent because of the buff. If anything, people with the buff tend to play a little more sloppy/careless because they have the “buff”.
ICD on perplexity runes would be fine. I honestly think the perp runes work really well on all builds, but for professions with lots of stuns/interupts/launches/etc, I can definitely see why these runes can get nasty real fast. An ICD on the 6/6 upgrade will definitely tone it down and allow for a more “challenging” battle rather than getting stacked for 25 confusion only have it re-applied once it’s removed. I honestly just run from perp engis and mesmers. It’s not worth the fight because you can’t really fight back. It’s like fighting someone with perma-rataliation, you end up killing yourself.

Good duels tonight [OTWL] from GoM. Lila and Cana, your necros are dangerous. Definitely had a good time dueling you guys.
Thanks,

lol, we went up against dragonbrand last week and stood a fighting chance
Not only were we trashed in all the maps including our own BL, the occasional small group fights, 1v1s, 1v2s etc were so few and far in between that the most skill that could be showcased for solo roamers was how fast you could make it to a tower, water, keep, or citadel before you were caught and violated by a 40+ zerg on every map. This week, Dragonbrand is getting trashed by TC? yeah, rank 12 definitely stands a chance against rank 5-6
Mao Xiong – Worst Warrior GW2
The absolute BEST way to modify or have buffs be patched is to completely ignore them. The reason why Anet does nothing for now is the fact that people “love” getting these buffs despite the community QQ about it. If there were a gentleman’s agreement that no server should be trying to attain buffs since they do not contribute to karma or PPT, then by all means, that is similar to the full brunt of retaliation to the buffs. Of course this is not possible because we can’t control the actions of every member on our server, but this is by far the quickest way to see results aside from a mass exit of the game or WvW.
Mao Xiong – Worst Warrior GW2
I play on Kain, and for the record, NA prime “was” pretty evenly matched, in fact SF probably outnumbers Kain during NA prime, but our oceanic presence is the only reason why we are pulling away in points (it’s been a very long time since that has been true).
After a whole night of fighting, I realized, the buff didn’t make much difference to me. People still died the way they normally do, in fact people with the buff actually died faster?! (maybe they were overconfident with the extra stats and forgot they still need to use heal?). I found that solo roamers (the very few I met) were very willing to engage me whether because I’m weak or because they have the buff, I can’t really say. But I definitely noticed a drop in solo roamers and an increase to zerg play and 3-5 man teams. I primarily play during NA prime and during that time, we on Kain are actually behind in PPT to SF so coverage is not the issue during NA prime. Again, our night crew are the guys that gain the majority our points at the moment.

looking at these maps" http://mos.millenium.org/na
I don’t see what you guys are QQ about, looks like the smaller servers have the “buff” currently.
Mao Xiong – Worst Warrior GW2
I made a simple video testing the buff at full – being that my server took every power node.
What do you guys think?
Kind of hard to say. I’m sure having the borderland buff was helpful, but from the looks of the build and video, you’re already a defensively focused build anyways so having passive healing and stability is normal. Your fight with char warrior looked fine till your guildie jumped in. The fight quickly turned to a 4v2 in your favor so that would’ve happened regardless of buff.
Mao Xiong – Worst Warrior GW2
To me that mostly just says “The stupid stay stupid”. Your enemy needs to capture 9 areas to get the buff. They need to hold these areas for 2 minutes before it gets activated. It takes more than 2 minutes to capture these points.
If you can’t stand up to them, you need to change your tactics and communicate better with your allies.
Glad to see I’m not the only one who feels the same. too much QQ over a mechanic that many of us on the forum have not even played. I wonder how many people actually read the patch update? lol
Mao Xiong – Worst Warrior GW2
So, how many of you guys have actually played with the new buffs?
1. How are the buffs applied? Instantly after 3/5 temples are controlled for 2 minutes? Or slowly trickles up to +150 stats over time?
2. How often does the stat get reset? (In game play, not in theory)
3. How much of a difference does this buff make for you server? i.e. were you losing horribly already? Winning? Close match-up?
4. Other than complaints, has your server worked on new fighting strategies? If so, have they worked?
5. The buff is applied server wide or map wide? I am under the impression that the buff is applied on whichever map/world you hold 3/5 temples for 2 minutes. This means that GvG can be held in Eternal Battlegrounds since it does not have any temples, no?
My thinking is that if it takes a minimum of 2 minutes of holding 3/5 temples and the enemy “zerg” is still able to take your BL or keeps, chances are, you would have lost those keeps or BL regardless of buff so I don’t see what all the QQ is about.
If you’re roaming and run into someone with +150 stats than you, chances are, you or your server didn’t care enough about buffs to begin with or you weren’t aware of the positioning of the map and did not respond to reset/contest buffs. No Zerg is going to stay in a BL that is completely theirs unless they are defending. That being said, if your small group isn’t cohesive enough to reset buffs, then buff or no buff, you would’ve lost the fight to a group that was cohesive enough to think about buffs before fighting you. Not saying that people complaining are bad, just saying that there are always ways to counter something. WvW is also a strategic game mode as well as massive PvP, this simply adds another level of strategy to your gameplay. Like someone else already said, “if you don’t like, then don’t play” other than that, good luck to everyone out there.

Anet,
I love that you have made changes to WvW, however, the placement on these capture points might have been poorly implemented.
Currently you placed 5 capture points in the dead center of the WvW BL. between all the keeps and starting towards on the map. Which allows the zergy to be zergyier being that they don’t need to run far to protect anything.
Perhaps a better placement would have been to use a larger part of the WvW map.
WvW Map Adjustments:
-reduce the radius on the citadel. and make the exits directly outside the citadel itself .
-The northern most supply camp gets move a bit further south
-1 bloodlust capture point gets placed in the location of the old alter/northern supply camp to the north(with added ruins and such)
-1 bloodlust gets placed at the skrit(with added ruins and such)
-1 bloodlust gets placed on the centurs(with added ruins and such)
-2 bloodlust gets placed in the current area in the former water. This helps spread the fight more. This makes the defenders of that BL have a bit of an advantage on the bloodlust placement. It also makes it for them to give up units from the south part of the map to try to defend them.
I know it might be a little late for this feedback as you just released the content, but i have faith in Anet, that when they make a mistake, they are willing to adjust and change.
I really like this idea. Much better and worth fighting for if you’re on a smaller server.
Mao Xiong – Worst Warrior GW2
Good fights near the bloodlust alters on Kain BL…too bad those OBEY guys give you such a bad name…not only are they pretty bad at skirmishing, they are the types of sore losers that jump on corpses when they 5v1 someone…
To everyone else on Kain, good on ya!
Not from [OBEY] but I’m sure every server has a few of those. I can remember a few times when that has happened to me while running away from a group of SF guys.
Mao Xiong – Worst Warrior GW2
yes. just like when i come online and see enemy server have everything T3 and with WP’s on all maps. its called time to reset. but now i can also have fun resetting bloodlust before i start resetting T3 everything. this is a thing of planing and strategy idd.
also i really hope bloodlust buff stacks with AC dmg. that would be gr8. pls make it so anet.
As a solo roamer, I actually think these places of power give more value to a cohesive small group as they can and will decide the fate of a borderland map with what they are able to do outside of the zerg. Granted, there will be matches where numbers will totally dominate; ex: 9/6 match-up: DB vs YB vs KAIN, DB had KAIN and YB outnumbered on all borderlands the whole time and there was literally nothing that could be done to close the coverage gap. OK, so with the addition of the “orbs” what’s the difference? Nothing, coverage still wins when an imbalanced match is played so results will not change. People are complaining as if they would win or “get closer” to winning if there were no buffs. Be honest people, a #14 server would never beat a #7 server even if the buff was granted to the lower ranked server full time. The population difference is just too much.
That being said, I actually think these buffs will help balance the higher and lower tiers a bit more so that mid tiers don’t have to play against them as much because the population difference between the top 4 servers are not too far off, at least no where near the difference between 15-19. After a week of consistent play, I’m sure i’ll either hate the buff, or love it. Unfortunately, this week is a bad match because KAIN has a big EU crew compared to SF and GoM but hopefully SF will start catching up because our KAIN’s NA crew does not seem to be on on part with SF.
Mao Xiong – Worst Warrior GW2
Haven’t played this yet, but honestly, I don’t really care for the buff too much. I honestly think it’s just a way to devise for more strategic play. A server would have to control 3/5 these locations of power for 2 minutes or more for stat to be effective and on top of it, people need to be there to continually defend/attack or buff runs out and temples revert to neutral. Plan effectively and buff will almost be non-existent. Again, this is my opinion so no need to flame me. I’m sure it’ll be different once I actually play, but this is just my initial reaction.
Mao Xiong – Worst Warrior GW2
Noobie, your build is weird but thanks for the link.
Sorry, i didn’t change your trait lines to match my pets. You can run any pets you like, I’ve been running jungle spider and bird, but that is personal preference.
Why do you find this build weird?
Mao Xiong – Worst Warrior GW2
Why would you use “rending attacks” (drake, feline, devourer and sharks apply bleeding on critical hits) if you run around with a bird and a canine?
Lol, i just noticed i didn’t change the traits from Hunterkiller’s link. Thanks for pointing that out
Mao Xiong – Worst Warrior GW2
Rune of the traveler sounds great — and if it works, I will use them too. However, they are brand new and somewhat pricey. The issue is the #6 trait +25% movement speed. Fantastic. However, the Rune of Speed has the same #6 skill and it has never worked. It’s been broken since launch, as far as I know. There are still broken, as of today September 11, 2013. I have the full set on my lvl 78 engi. No speed bonus. I would be concerned about buying a pricey set until we can confirm the speed boost works. If any one has them, please let us know.
It works for me. I’ve tried with my ranger in WvW but like I said, you drop a bit of damage (not much) but gain an extra utility slot if you don’t want to use Signet of the Hunt. I’ve also dueled another ranger who ran this on his Asuran ranger, and i don’t know if he was running both runes and signet, but he was a bit faster than me unless asurans just look faster because they are so tiny. Not even sure if speed buff on runes stacks with signet, but like i said, he was definitely faster than me (we raced afterwards lol)
Mao Xiong – Worst Warrior GW2
If you’re planning on running a condition build on WvW, i would highly recommend doing a condition/regen with apothecary armor instead. You’ll have very good regen mixed with in with very good condition damage.
I actually this build here:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fMEQRAnf8YjAV91BWKWoWCiVBB1ekJzjpniY1KXhRdxGJJB-jEDBIODimCAmWAk8IQ5RFRjtMEtsmIaUPjIqWdDzoDzYWIyeO1SBAx0I-w
it works very well as a solo roamer and when I’m in a small group, i switch my heal to healing spring. Overall, it’s pretty hard to kill me or my pet for that matter and I have enough conditions to apply constant pressure on my opponents. The extra damage people take from the confusion of the perplexity runes is really nice as well. If you’re intent on using shortbow/greatsword. You should try a Cleric’s confusion type build like this on here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/ranger/Ranger-Dazer-Hybrid-Build-2-0-Movie/first#post2667399
Mao Xiong – Worst Warrior GW2
(edited by Noobie.1073)
If this is for WvWvW, you should try traveler runes and swap signet of the hunt for a stun break. Traveler runes will give you the same 25% increase speed you want plus boon and condition duration. You lose a bit of CD from the undead runes, you get +30 to all traits so it’s not too bad and 6% crit damge increase with travelers.
Mao Xiong – Worst Warrior GW2
I noticed that your trap build had no traps on it. I would also go with with a torch unless you’re planning to go S/D instead of A/D for evasive attacks while fighting inside your traps. Shortbow is fine for applied bleeds, you just have to flank quite often.
Mao Xiong – Worst Warrior GW2
Against a good perma stealth thief, you won’t kill them unless they mess up. Here’s a video I have fighting one. I normally don’t try and 1v1 them, the fights take to long and they normally run, or I do.
Edit: oh and I was trolling around with pigs lol, they’re not the best pets to have against them.
I couldn’t help noticing you run Axe/torch and S/D with perplexity runes! Nice vid by the way. How do you like using SoN on your build? I’ve thought about it but felt I didn’t do enough damage
I just hope condition rangers aren’t hit too hard with the upcoming “balance”
Mao Xiong – Worst Warrior GW2
Since everyone is talking about high level PVE, I solo all champs and some group event champs regularly with this build. In WvW, i solo camps and towers (have not tried keeps, but i will most likely die since towers are hard enough as it is). For PvE, you can drop frost trap and pick up spike trap or viper’s nest. This is a condition/regeneration build and I’ve cleared all of Orr solo with this build. I have very little trouble in dungeons. Everyone has a different playing style, my suggestion to you is to find your playing style. If you like using a bow, then learn which one works for you, if you like power, go with power, if you want to be the last person standing when everyone is dead, go with condition/regen because you’ll a ton of evades, incredible regen, and very effective conditions.
Mao Xiong – Worst Warrior GW2
melee attack is the norm. high survivability, great for duels, solo roaming (WvW), flipping camps (WvW), and Conditions applied will melt most professions away. Some, like bunker guardians, take a little longer.
Mao Xiong – Worst Warrior GW2
This is what I run in WvW.
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fMAQRAnf8YjAV51BWKWoWCiVBB1ekJzjpniWFLXhRVwkK-j0CBIODimCAmWAk8IQ5RFRjtsmIasaCVPjIqWdDziL1GzDRTKgFlGB-w
Only times I have trouble with thieves is when they catch me me by surprise and hit me with basilisk venom from the start. After that it’s a burst that not many can survive. If they catch me with a backstab, I can usually dodge roll and avoid more damage.
I usually start with Axe #3 to chill and Torch #4 to burn followed by my pet F2 on bird to cause blind (keep in mind that the thief can dodge these attacks) your axe #1 will always be your back up attack to apply pressure.
once thief goes into stealth drop your frost trap and run in a circle around your trap throwing axe (you won’t hit him but by running you won’t get backstabbed. Once your trap goes off, swap pets, target thief, hit axe#2 and swap weapons to sword, (this combo with geomancy sigil will apply close to 10-11 stacks of bleeding) hit your elite to immobilize (thief should still be chilled) this will put up to 25 stacks bleed on him even if he gets out of vines. Pet F2 for wolf Fear, Sword #3 to add poison, dagger #4 (to evade cloak and dagger) dagger #5 to reapply bleed, sword #1 chain to cripple (don’t just spam all of these recklessly, use appropriatley to properly evade and avoid his attacks). Swap axe for geomancy bleed and torch #4 for burn. Even if the thief runs, he won’t clear burning and bleed from dagger #5. If done correctly, you should be able to stomp thief. If he’s really skilled, you’re SOL lol.
This is not how all fights pan out, but so far, if the thief is a D/D or S/D thief, it’s pretty much played out this way because the theif will always be in range of your sword, axe, and trap skills. keep in mind you’ll need to be constantly moving and keeping your torch #5 and frost trap up to slow down the thief. All thieves depend on mobility to strike you so the more cripples and chills you put on him, the more condition removal he’ll have to use to get rid of the mobilization conditions and get worn down by your damage conditions. If he’s busy defending himself, he won’t have too much time to attack you. Rangers are very evasive and you a total of 5 evasions with this build including your dodge rolls. Runes of perplexity will also help because if the thief is dumb, he’ll attack till he downs himself with confusion.
have fun and enjoy
Mao Xiong – Worst Warrior GW2
Yaks, you guys always bring good fights. DB guild [WAR] you guys like to jump people a little too much. No need to bring your 15-20 people to kill one guy. Just let him run away, you already own the map anyways.
YB mesmer that I fought at Greenvale on KBL, i appreciate you not bringing your buddies. It was very good fight. DB guardian that i met by the veteran wolf at Astralholme KBL, would’ve been a better match had your warrior buddy not jumped in. Either way, good fights overall.
Mao Xiong – Worst Warrior GW2
Asuran Necro from [TB] guild on Dragonbrand. I like how you play. I was the ranger you downed at north camp KBL after you got vista. You’re tough as nails to bring down. Don’t come after me anymore, I’d rather not have to repair armor

Just got home for the weekend….and this will be interesting. So far there’s a lot of QQ but this is every week for us on Kaineng so whats new? Lets have some fun out there, or go get all your achievements in PvE

On the note of ppl bandwagoning to Kaineng again, please don’t (: While we would love to gain more coverage we are not interested in easy win hungry ppl who will ditch us when kitten gets tough. We want dedicated, coordinated people, who are really looking for a fun new home. We work our kitten off to be where we are, with the so few coverage we have.

I’m anxious to see what the new patch will look like, but I am also afraid they will nerf the only effective solo roaming build left for us rangers now (condition/regen) it’s bad enough that our pets no longer do the damage they used to, but if they take away conditions (they most likely will) it’s back to the drawing boards. Maybe I’ll start running some type of knights armor.
Mao Xiong – Worst Warrior GW2
Anet’s not changing anything in regards to pets. I gave up on that long ago.
I’m still hopeful
been so so since launch lol
Mao Xiong – Worst Warrior GW2
Maybe if they gave us a new class for GW1 rangers that wasn’t shackled to a pet, I would agree with you, Noobie. But anyone who likes GW1 rangers-without pets-is simply kittened, according to ArenaNet. The fact that they got rid of the dervish play style as well was just icing on the cake for me, personally.
TBH I thought about that and I understand why Anet decided to make the changes to the classes. I do like the class diversity of GW2 compared to GW1 where any class can have similar skills to any other class. There was no uniqueness for specific professions in GW1 so in that regard I do like that rangers can’t be warriors or thieves or whatever.
On the same note, there are definitely rangers who excel at wilderness survival and trap usage without pets so I would like to see build diversity to allow for rangers to be able to go without a pet and not have their dps reduced. In GW1 Beastmaster was a build, not a profession. if traited correctly, the beastmaster was a valuable asset as a tank since the pet was that formidable. In GW2, beastmaster is a profession because rangers do not have the option of eliminating the pet out of their total DPS.
Mao Xiong – Worst Warrior GW2
Can we have this skill as utility and not a downed skill?
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Throw_Dirt
And of course, anything going to be done regarding the pet AI?
Improvements:
– better targeting for pets
– F2 overides all pet skills and activates immediately
Mao Xiong – Worst Warrior GW2
It seems some of the veteran Rangers have gone silent and our younglings have gotten a little hair on their chest and are making demands.
This made me laugh. It seems like many of the “vets” have jumped ship already. Granted a few of us rangers (myself included) only play a ranger but this has nothing to do with vets or younglings. I believe people are just not satisfied with the amount of DPS they do in comparison to other classes. I for one, do not care that I don’t DPS like a warrior, stealth/backstab like thief, cleanse like a guardian, AoE like a necro and ele, or apply conditions like a engi because I am not any of those. If i wanted to be, then I’d jump ship and learn a new profession. I just have problems with the ranger pet AI. TBH there are skills I would love to have, but realistically, the pet AI is the only thing that concerns me as that should be the one thing that rangers do better than any other profession (pets). Unfortunately, the way the pet AI functions now, necro golems and ele pets seem to be on par. If anything, all professions should have 40% less dps when they summon a pet
Mao Xiong – Worst Warrior GW2
Well someone got mad, lmao.
Not mad, just replying in the same context that he wrote. I am actually enjoying myself this week, but when someone wants to publically embarrass another a server knowing that the server is not going to win or get close to it, is like pouring salt on an open wound. How would your guild take it if CNB came in and said that they let you guys win some of the open field battles because they felt bad for farming you? (not that they would, just using as an example)
My point is, most of Kaineng actually do not feel bad about our standing in this match-up simply because we know we’re outmanned but the point difference is actually closer than it ought to be. Granted CD is not playing for PPT (they’ve announced that already) and YB is focused on CD. Whatever the reason, the points are where they are. Given the circumstances, Kaineng has not come on the forums saying that YB and CD suck because they should slaughtering us, just to boost our egos. So why would a YB member come on saying YB is going easy on us? That’s just plain rude and shows no class of gamesmanship.
Mao Xiong – Worst Warrior GW2
As I said before, others have driven the topic to that point. Argue with them if you want I’m arguing about the insane Hp/S Troll Unguent and Spirit of Nature bring.
Again, the “insane” Hp/S you speak of is only specific to a few select builds which ultimately end up giving the ranger next to nothing in terms of dps. Besides running an apothecary set for condition/regen, you’re throwing your eggs in the wrong basket. If you factor our pets damage (which will miss on moving targets, you don’t even have to dodge or have swiftness, just kite it) we’re doing very little to kill you. if you fight a ranger and don’t know how to move while attacking, L2P first and then complain. If you have not played a ranger yet, create one, take him in to sPvP and see first hand how much this “insane” regen is helping you. Once you do that, post some pictures or videos of “your” gameplay and teach the rest of us “rangers” how to effectively play our rangers. You “seem” to know a lot about our class mechanics, so please enlighten us with “your” personal experience.
Mao Xiong – Worst Warrior GW2
Yeah, lowing my HPS to 263 forever is mean. especially when they use it on Adrenal Health and it ticks its third second and heals significantly less.
I think he’s saying that realistically, you wouldn’t have poison on you all the time. and if you do have poison on you all the time, l2P cause that’s a personal problem and not a class mechanic problem. Do you have a LV. 80 ranger? If you do, play it more often so you can see first hand if what you are saying is true. If you don’t, stop basing your arguments over a non-existent build because no one build will give you all of what you’re talking about. Simply listing our skills and passive abilities does not help your case.
Mao Xiong – Worst Warrior GW2
Let us not create drama. Let’s be honest here Kain, you guys know you can’t cough up what is takes to be in this match. It isn’t personal, nor an attack against you guys. However, until you guys get more guilds interested in WvW and overall just better tactics you aren’t gonna keep up. Just last night you guys had a zerg twice the size the one I was in, and you guys not only got crushed but your tactic(or failure to remain organized) was to split your zerg and start running in all directions leaving us to easily pick you guys out…. and this was on YOUR side of ebg.
Note: I’m sure if you want us to very badly, we can show you how we will take interest in fighting your side of things, and flip your entire borderlands if you’d like. However we try and stick to fighting CD as it is a bit more fun. Think about it, our focus isn’t even your server and you guys still can’t really keep up :/ (sorry but truth is truth)
“Lets not create drama here” but seriously? you’re going to rant about your organized zerg taking on a bunch of PUGs that didn’t want to PvE? Oh wait, you’re trying to tell us we don’t have coverage or that we don’t enough guilds interested in WvW? congratulations Captain Obvious! I wasn’t aware you knew more about Kaineng than actual Kaineng players (unless you bandwagonned your way out during the week). If “you” want to focus on our BL then go ahead, just don’t bring your entire server or zerg to fight 6 guys and rant on about how disorganized we are. No one likes a doosh and you my friend are a condescending trolling doosh (sorry but truth is truth).
Mao Xiong – Worst Warrior GW2
Well, the ranger description does say “…adaptable in any situation” so I guess, we as ranger players must adapt once more. A toon is only as effective as the player behind the screen. Despite the nerfs, you’ll still see Rangers winning 1v1 or 1v2s and they’ll still be called OP to a certain degree. Sure there are stronger professions, but a skilled player is good regardless of the profession he/she chooses and a unskilled player will still be unskilled regardless the profession he/she chooses. There will always be those who hit a button and expect someone to drop a loot bag (me on an AC), and there are those who understand that loot bags are rewards.
We’ll survive this, look on the bright side, there isn’t much more they can take from us. the road only goes up from here
Mao Xiong – Worst Warrior GW2
Dear ANET,
I jumped on GW1 the other night and I realized something. Rangers were bad@ss in GW1! I mean we’re still viable in roaming WvW and 1v1 occasional 2v1 with baddies but overall, rangers aren’t what they use to be. Every ranger I’ve ran into in WvW that was roaming had some form of a BM condition build. Anything else is just obsolete (sorry, but zerker rangers are really easy pickings) and not that fun to play if you keep dying.
I play as a touch ranger in GW1 and I must say, ANET! give back my “Throw Dirt” skill!!! I don’t want the skill while I’m downed, I want to apply a 15 second AoE blind and still be able to attack. You’ve steered the ranger into a direction that using bows are no longer effective so please allow us to use the GW1 version of “Throw Dirt”. Throwing dirt was an AoE blind that literally saved lives! I am not asking for a lot, I just want to be able to use this skill in my build so please allow this skill to be used as a utility and not a downed skill. In case you guys forgot how the skill works, I’ve provided a link for you here: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Throw_Dirt
Sincerely,
a Loyal Ranger of GW1 and GW2

Admittedly I am pretty new to GW2, but I enjoy the class tremendously. But, I only play to have fun, and couldn’t care less about the opinions of anyone else as it relates to my choices.
i’m with you brother, but the more you PvP, the more you’ll want certain things that aren’t currently attainable

I just leveled a mesmer to level 80 using the boost that starts you at level 20. At level 22, with 2 levels of actual play experience and no clue, I went into WvW and killed a level 80 ranger 1 v 1 even though he had me caught in entangle for a bit and attacked me from behind. It was truly a wtf moment that showed me once and for all how badly this class sucks.
Funny I did get knocked down by a wolf in a 1 v 1, as I usually dodge the knockdown automatically without even thinking about it just like most of us do with red circles. The wolf was up on top of the wall at Stonemist and knocked me down straight with no windup or warning. His owner was outside the castle.
The guy was hacking. Says it all.
I know i’m not the only one that thinks this, but I hate fighting Mesmers. There are lots of professions that have a hard time with mesmers, hell I still get rolled by mesmers every now and then, but then again, the opposite is true too. It’s just like what Jet Li said in the movie Fearless “No one style of martial arts is better than the other, its the level of the practitioner that makes the style powerful”
In essence, this can be applied to random meetings in WvW. If i get attacked by a random and he doesn’t down me with initial burst or is just not the most skilled, i will probably end up downing him or he’ll disengage and run. On the flip side, IF i attacked someone (class does not matter) and they turned out to be a beast, i’ll gladly pick up my face as i WP myself after he’s stomped me

Yeah. Ranger is 14 percent because it is one of the best PvE/PvP classes, if you know what you are doing. Anet can see this from statistics which is why they have tweaked it quite a bit. Even with all the tweaks, I still feel sorry for opponents in PvP and WvW as they get continue to get steamrolled. Too many people use beserkanoob charts to analyse class viability in PvE as well. They forget about the important things like combo field options, power/condition pairing, group traits, etc.
Are dungeons considered PvE? cause if they are, Rangers aren’t too welcomed. They’re like the kid that gets picked last to join a team lol. WvW? besides roaming and 1v1 or ocassional 1v2s….Rangers are not the popular choice. I would say WvW consists of many many thieves and mesmers. PvP is about the only place a ranger is welcomed or favored.

I meant popular in group play, not in sheer number.
Yes, the pet sucks on multiple points, but when another player sees the Ranger, they don’t care that the pet sucks, they only care about what the player does. Because that’s what matters. It’s what you get out of something, that directly affects how others perceive it. People will always have their pre-assumptions, but our state of mind about something, is only determined directly by our experiences with it. So if you make the best out of it, people will see more good then bad, as long as there is potential. And the Ranger does have potential, even as it is right now.

I agree with you. Every class has ups and downs. No one class is perfect. I don’t have too much problems getting into groups or playing WvW, but that is just my experience. Like you, I make the most of what I have (though at times I want to punch my pet in the face).
I do feel for the ranger community that want to use the ranger in a more traditional role because I will admit that playing a ranger is no easy task. I am in no way insinuating that i am godly as a ranger, but i think there’s a lot of fine tuning to make the current ranger excel or be compatible with other classes in group play. I played as a “touch ranger” or ranger/blood necro in GW1 so LB/SB skills haven’t really mattered to me much since I’m used to playing melee, but for a traditionalist, the current state of the ranger just doesn’t make much sense since other professions clearly have more dominant skills with the bow. Again, this is just my observation from the Anet description of the ranger compared to the ranger’s in-game ability for the traditional ranger.

The only thing preventing you is profession popularity, and group pressure. For instance, berserker Warriors are only popular in dungeons, because they are popular. And because everyone writes “looking for berserker Warrior”, others feel pressured to make and play that. The Ranger’s lack of popularity is exactly the same problem; everyone believes that the Ranger has nothing to offer, and will continue to feel that way, regardless of what ArenaNet does to the Ranger. Only us Ranger players can prove that the Ranger has a place.
On the contrary, Rangers are the second most popular profession in the game next to “warriors” according to:
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/guild-wars-2-the-first-year/
So your popularity argument is invalid. Where do us Rangers have a place? in WvW? Dungeons? tPvP?
I know “my” ranger is a WvW solo roamer, “my” ranger can play dungeons with my guildies and friends, “my” ranger can compete in PvP, but that is only “my” ranger. Everyone plays differently and while I feel that every profession has their ups and downs, strengths, and weaknesses. I do feel an overwhelming need to punch my pet in the face sometimes
I get what you are saying (hence why i placed the word “my” in quotations) but not every ranger in the game is going to have the same support as I do from my guild or my friends. Some/most rangers may not want to solo roam WvW, Some rangers are completely against melee combat so will never touch a sword/dagger. Some rangers are profound and extremists to expect that Anet either make the changes to the ranger class that supports Anet’s description of the ranger profession:
“Rangers rely on a keen eye, a steady hand, and the power of nature itself. Unparalleled archers, rangers are capable of bringing down foes from a distance with their bows. With traps, nature spirits, and a stable of loyal pets at their command, rangers can adapt to any situation. "
or to change the ranger description to match what the ranger currently is. Ranger’s can not adapt to every situation as we are not as effective when our pets are on CD. Pets are not loyal as current F2 skill do not override any current skills, Warriors have better LB skills that rangers. Thief has better SB skills than rangers. Therefore, rangers are not unparallelled, but sub-par archers. Keen eye means that stealth duration should automatically be reduced when fighting a ranger because rangers use the power of nature itself to know where a stealthed opponent is or rangers should be invulnerable to backstabs if traited because of being attuned to nature (meaning they should never be hit by a “surprise” attack).
I continue to play my ranger regardless, but it does not mean I don’t want to see some nice changes for the ranger class. if we can’t have the changes to the class, at least change the class description to say:
“Rangers rely on a steady hand and the power of nature itself. Efficient archers; rangers are capable of bringing down foes from a distance with their bows. With traps, nature spirits, and a stable of pets at their command, rangers excel in small scale combat”

Your linked build is sort of good, but here’s a few suggestions.
1. As of right now, you’re not using any traps so you should change Trap Potency to something more effective
2. You aren’t using a shortbow or longbow so you should probably change Quick Draw to Honed Axes.
3. Where are you getting this crit every other hit? In the build calc, it shows your crit rate at only 32% and I’m pretty sure you can’t chain fury well enough to have 50% all the time in fights.
I’m kind of curious as to why you chose sword/dagger as offhand. Even with the protection from Signet of Stone, it’s generally not a good idea for us rangers to be “in the fray” (I can understand sword though because lots of evades). I’d personally switch it for Greatsword so that you have the damage to back you up, but hey, that’s my opinion.
Fixed! It was late last night, and i was too tired to bother changing.
Crit chance increases with Horn#5 and RaO by 20% + 32% standard gives you 52% chance which equals about every other hit with activated skills. you can even run a red Moa and get additional Fury for longer crit chance up-time but I find that horn#5 and RaO is more than enough to boost my damage.
I chose Sword/Dagger because I primarily play as a Condition/Trap ranger in WvW and sword/dagger is much more fluid for me. Though this gives me less DPS it also cripples NPCs and gives me 3 evades + my 2 dodge rolls to get out of danger. I will only use sword/dagger when I need to get away from being mobbed because I don’t like being trapped (claustrophobic lol). I, in no way intend to stay in a mob and DPS my way out so GS #3 would be the only skill I find useful for my style of play. Again, this is my preference in play so it optimizes my strengths. Someone else may be different, they may like LB/GS, that combo however is not me and so I would not choose to put myself at a disadvantage. Additionally, having an extra Sigil is worth the trouble as well

I think that both builds suggested could be evaluated better. I personally run a 0/0/30/10/30 in WvW with full apothecary gear and trinkets for healing and conditions but in Dungeons, though it keeps me alive, I often feel like I’m only along for the ride and not a contributing factor. If you want to stay alive in a dungeon and “slowly” wittle down the bosses, I’d say go for the bunker build, just keep in mind that your pet will not survive regardless of being traited because of the immense AoE in high level dungeons. I personally feel that in Dungeons, Power is the way to go. You should not have to frontline/draw aggro with guards/warriors so you won’t be getting hit too often, but if you do, utilize your evades and skills to get out of a sticky situation.
This is the build I personally run while in fractals or any other dungeon for that matter. You get plenty of protection from Signet of stone via Signet of the Beastmaster trait, 20k HP pool, and you crit with every other hit. Your pet choices can be up to you, but I usually use a wolf/stalker for CC fear and might buff. As always, smart play is required with any ranger build. I choose Axe/Horn over SB because in dungeons, you want to do as much damage to as many NPCs as possible and axe has the same range kitten but has 2 additional bounces so it hits up to 3 targets. Horn #5 is essentially Rampage as One in that it provides you the fury, might, and swiftness minus the stability. Swap pets accordingly, use sword/dagger for evades when you get mobbed and you’ll be fine. I survive with my own group or PUGs regardless and I put out the same amount of damage if not more because of the consistency in my crits and extra DPS from pets. Anyone who tells you that Rangers can’t do something is obviously playing another profession too much. you just have to know who you’re teamed up with, for example, Warriors spec’d for survivabilty do not have the Burst damage of a berserker warrior and vice versa, Berserker’s don’t have the survivabilty of a bunker or defensively focused tank. That being said, if you have tanks in your group, you contributing to the overall DPS of the group is more of contribution than you staying alive after everyone else dies. Ranger’s aren’t the best at a lot of things, but we’re consistently good at all things. Try out the build and tweek it to your own play style, only then can you determine whether its a good build for you or not.
