Your Weapon Skins?

One Note Chord.5031

My skin and armor are dark purple and I don’t like the way they look with Whisperblade/Anomaly/etc., so for me it’s just legendaries (Bolt and Kamohoali’i Kotaki; I’m not crazy about Twilight/Sunrise with my gear, but I’m hopeful that some of the upcoming ones will match better) and Fractal skins (still waiting on some drops). And I kind of like Flux Matrix.

If you’re looking for skins, you might also try some of the galleries out there, either Dulfy’s or the wiki’s. For some weapons, like focus, it’s fun just to see how widely different the options are.

I’m happy enough with the way I look, but for what it’s worth, I wanted my head to look more like a plant and less like human head built out of leaves. That didn’t leave me with much choice.

About legendaries and where they went wrong

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: One Note Chord.5031

One Note Chord.5031

I’d say the real place they “went wrong” with legendaries was when they decided all legendaries should be available only as PVT.

You can transmute them. They even fixed the problem with transmuted legendaries not counting as legendaries a couple patches ago.

To be clear, I’m not here relying on second-hand reports or something (though you’ll have to rely on a first-hand report :P). I transmuted my bolt before equipping it, so I never got the achievement or the chest on the character select screen. After the patch that put the cosmetic damage types on legendaries (e.g., (lightning) on bolt), I had the achievement and the chest. My bolt also got the cosmetic damage type.

(I don’t have a twilight or sunrise, so I can’t tell you if transmuted versions of those can be turned into eternity. I’d expect they could now, but that’s the only thing I can think of that I can’t test for myself.)

Another complaint, which has been made on these forums before: why don’t mesmers get the shark effect on autoattack crits with kamohoali’i kotaki? We only get it on the 2 skill, not the 1 skill. :(

Dungeon chest runes Soulbound.

8 months ago now. It’d be nice to at least know whether this will ever be changed.

And while we’re at it, why can’t they be forged? (Some soulbound runes can be forged, such as major runes from dungeon chests.) That would let those of us with runes we don’t need do something with them, while keeping the runes themselves exclusive to people who run dungeons or get lucky with the forge, if that’s what you care about. Is it just a fear of flooding the market if we can suddenly get random superior runes for 480 dungeon tokens? (I doubt that this would actually be a problem, but I could be wrong.)

Yeah, I’d rather wait for an answer from their team to be safe.

I’ve never, ever seen them say, “Yes, this is acceptable” to a question like this. (I assume this is so that nobody can be banned and then come back and say, “But you said…,” which is reasonable.) All I’ve ever seen in the last eight years is them repeating their policy.

What I think should fit their 1 keystroke/1 action thing is binding several keys on your keyboard to left-click (or double-click, as long as that’s considered one action) and spamming everything. Something comfortable, like asdf;lkj or awef;oij, should still let you click way faster and with way less risk of a RSI.

Disclaimer: I’m not an Anet employee, and in general they don’t like confirming or denying that some specific action fits their criteria, so this is just what I think should fit, not what they’ve explicitly allowed.

(I’ve done this in both GW and GW2, there for titles and here for buying and using Orrian boxes and karma, and I haven’t been banned, but of course lots of people do prohibited things and get away with it, so that’s no guarantee, either.)

Yup, also liked the dungeon. Some new fights to learn, and not a complete walkover the first time through, and not really any trouble the next time. Sounds fine for a dungeon that’ll be in the game for two weeks.

Transmuting a legendary

in Crafting

Posted by: One Note Chord.5031

One Note Chord.5031

Transmuted legendaries received the most recent flavor update (for example, my transmuted Bolt now lists (lightning) damage), and they count for the achievement and the chest on the character select screen (I transmuted my Bolt before equipping it, and I didn’t have those before the April 30 update). They still say Transmuted instead of Legendary, but I think there’s a pretty good chance that the answer to question 2 is now yes, although of course that’s just a guess.

For the other question, maybe someone with a transmuted Sunrise or Twilight could check to see if they can put it into the MF with the other ingredients for Eternity.

I think part of the problem with Komali, though, is that it’s possible for other people to screw it up. ArenaNet set out to make sure that you couldn’t grief dynamic events, but Komali is incredibly easy to grief, even unintentionally—all you need to do is attack.

If it was in an instance or something, where only your guild could participate, then that wouldn’t be a problem. But it isn’t, so it is.

I don’t think any of the other fights are really that bad, although it’s true that some of them are much harder to find if your guild isn’t large.

What I actually want is~

2. I feel that time spent in PvE and TP should have the similar rates of advancement towards endgame goals.

I like this way of putting things, but I’m worried that it isn’t actually possible without seriously overhauling the entire system. The problem is that as long as drops are random and lots of drops are things you don’t want, there needs to be a way to turn the things you don’t want into things you do want. And unless this is going to go via yet another new kind of account bound currency (which seems less than ideal), the way to do that is to sell them, and then we’re back to going via gold.

Maybe the best example of the need for this is fractal skins. Nike writes,

I really do appreciate the introduction of the ascended gear tier, as outside of the triforge amulet it actually does decouple an endgame goal from Gold Acquisition. While I’m not pushing hard in fractals beyond the teens I can appreciate there are skins unique to those who do WHICH CANNOT BE BOUGHT. While I’m not in a big guild I can aprove of new guild weapon skins that reflect (and display) that sort of focus in someone’s play and cannot be bought.

And I really do like the fractal skins. The weapons are cool, the backpiece is cool, that’s all great. And fractal weapon drops are really rare, and that’s great, too. But when your fractal weapon dro kitten omething you don’t want, it sucks. Ascended rings have the same problem, and the “fix” was to just give you a new account bound currency that lets you get the rings you want. This doesn’t fix the underlying problem, though, which is that rare drops, which are supposed to be exciting, end up being completely useless, and you just ignore them while you grind out the currency. I mean, yeah, they could let you buy the fractal weapon skins for 100 pristine relics or something, and it’d be a workaround, but it doesn’t solve the problem.

Letting us forge the rings and skins doesn’t really solve the problem, either. “Woo, I got one fourth of a free random drop!” isn’t the reaction you want people to have when they get their incredibly lucky drop. The only easy fix I can think of is to let the rings, skins, etc. be their own currency. Put in traders that will let people trade in a few skins they don’t want for one they do, or a few lodestones they don’t want for one they do, or whatever, and without the randomness of the forge. But given that they like the forge, I figure they don’t like that option.

What's the big deal with Ascended?

in Suggestions

Posted by: One Note Chord.5031

One Note Chord.5031

For me, the big deal is that one of the things that made gw great (for me) was that I could leave for six months (or a year, or 18 months), come back, and be able to play new content immediately, rather than first getting new gear.

That wouldn’t be a huge problem if this were guaranteed:

This leads me to believe ascended is going to be added for level 80 only and fill the last gap for high level gear, after which there will be no additional reason to add additional tiers.

But there’s no reason to be led to believe this. It could be true, of course. But it could also be false. We don’t have any evidence either way. They can always create new reasons to add more gear, simply by adding new content where it helps (like they’ve done this time). Will they? We can’t possibly tell.

I realize that it’s hardly a fix, but I just use the guru tracker, which is much better. Full thread titles, sorted by thread rather than post, easier to scan, etc.

Aside from everything else, the official tracker assumes I want to read every post. But I’d rather look for threads that sound interesting and then just read those.
