without huge blow ups because 1 guy isnt following meta.

The people you’re talking to in these threads aren’t the people who are blowing up because 1 person isn’t following the meta, though. Part of the problem is that people come to this forum complaining about people who don’t really make up this forum’s community.

It really sucks that lots of people out there are kittens, and that some kittens ruin dungeon runs for lots of people, but you can understand, I hope, that it’s not very helpful to lump the very tiny minority of the playerbase that hangs out on this forum in with those kittens just because both groups like fast dungeon runs.

One concern raised in the CDI about buying skins with relics was that people who never progress past personal reward level 10 could eventually get all the skins. That’s fixed easily enough by having the merchant only sell skins to people whose personal reward level is 50 or 40+ or whatever, though even those people would then be able to get all the skins by grinding low level fractals. I think some people have a problem with that, although I dunno how many people do.

And yeah, simpler than all of this is to just replace skins with a box that lets you choose a skin (they wouldn’t even have to change the drop rate!). It doesn’t solve the problem of having nothing to do with extra relics/rings, which is the actual topic here, but that problem doesn’t have to be solved with skins.

Completely pointless stacking - RANT!

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: One Note Chord.5031

One Note Chord.5031

The only reason that might justify stacking against a wall in coe p1 and p3 (but never in p2), is that pugs never stack tight in the middle and always run around in circles around alpha, and end up eating / causing party to eat the overlapped teeth of mordremoth taking 2x the normal dmg. I believe this is the reason for that “wall is still better than middle” popular pug opinion that I always hear in my runs.

Basically, it’s just like lupi – standing close and still is the key.

This sounds like something that could be a reason, but I don’t think it’s the actual reason most pugs stack in coe. I think it’s that they don’t understand why people used to stack, and so they do it now because they were taught to.

To be honest, though, it doesn’t bother me much when I pug coe. It’s silly, no doubt, but it doesn’t cost more than a minute or two, spread out over all three paths, so it’s not a battle I feel like picking.

The fractal rewards are to help for later fractals ( for the most part ) its just everyone reached the top really fast and I think this will always be a problem.

There are plenty of better ways to design the rewards so that this isn’t a problem.

What's a Bad Player to Do?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

The only skill/gear check in AC is arguably the burrows, maybe kiting the gravelings at the pulling the chains at the one part or the ghosts for the boss. I always am perturbed at super-leet AC groups because this is a level 30 dungeon, as long as folks read chat for instructions you’ll do fine.

Why are you perturbed? There shouldn’t be anything perturbing about different people enjoying different things. For some people, the speed at which they complete the dungeon is an important part of their fun. For other people it isn’t. Nothing wrong with either type of person.

Of course, there is something wrong with someone joining a group advertised for one type of player when they want to play a different way. And that’s a problem in either direction. If someone joins a “all levels and experience welcome” pug and then complains that the run is slow and people don’t know what to do, they’re being a jerk. And equally, if someone who doesn’t know the dungeon very well (or is wearing nomad’s or something) joins a “4k+ ap zerk experienced 80s only” pug, they’re being a jerk.

(And if your lfg doesn’t describe the sort of group you’re making, that’s your fault!)

There’s room for all types of interests and play styles, and we’d all be better off if we stopped thinking that our own play style is the best, or that we’re the only ones really playing for fun, or that everybody who wants to play in a different way just doesn’t understand things as well as we do, or…

And then you also have to remember that endgame content that rewards you stuff that you dont need and cant do anything with is a bit messed up.

Just to emphasize this point, even Anet used to recognize that “loot drop systems that require doing a dungeon with a tiny chance the item you want can drop at the end” are bad. And the original dungeons didn’t give us loot systems like that. But for some reason the dungeons added after release (fractals, aetherpath) did.

Given how much time fractals take compared to dungeons, the gold at the end is a joke. Karma can make up a bit for it (as you say, you can turn karma into gold), but not all the way (especially if you’re doing 50 and not getting any karma!). The ascended chests and fractal skins are too rng-dependent, given their drop rates: the chances you’ll get the stats/skin you want are very low. You quickly get everything you need with relics and rings, after which they pile up uselessly.

Of course, fractal rewards shouldn’t massively outstrip everything else. But it’d be nice if all the useless stuff (relics, rings, unwanted skins, items with unwanted stats) turned into useful stuff.

Warrior was roughly 30% better DPS prior to April 2014, when it’s seen tons of damage nerfs since then. During this time, it was only possible to kill Lupicus on a warrior in under 4 minutes with close to 0 mistakes and perfect RNG. The very best kill time back then was 4:08 on a warrior. Even back then, ele was miles ahead of warrior in DPS and not only because of FGS.

Because every boss is a giant sized boss in which meteor shower and ice bow’s every projectile will hit.

Solo Kholer for example and post a Youtube of your record time on ele pls.

You really think the ability to hit Lupi multiple times with ice bow and meteor shower is shaving 1:30 off the kill? Really?

Not sure but I thought I heard someone say 250g or there-a-bouts.

This was already answered on the first page:

At the moment (it is possible that more would be added with an expansion though) it costs 43 gold and 360 skill points to unlock all major traits.

New party system, more dungeon scammers

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: One Note Chord.5031

One Note Chord.5031

Unfortunately, there have been lots of posts about this on the dungeon forum, and Anet say they’ll pursue reports (although how frequently they actually act on those reports is not clear), but I don’t think they’ve said anything to suggest that they’ll fix the party system. (I haven’t followed the forum closely for a bit, so maybe they announced something. But I doubt it.)

I’m pretty sure your safest bet is to fill your party up with friends and sell one slot at a time. That is, get up to a group of 4 with people you trust, advertise, get one buyer, have them send you money, have one friend drop, repeat. (If you have additional accounts with level 80s, you could multiclient and fill up the spots with those characters, too.)

It sucks, but it’s the best we can do right now.

Edit: Looks like one old thread was deleted, because the forum rules here are so fantastic. But this thread can give you a good sense of how much Anet doesn’t actually do anything about these problems. Ogden part 3: Unfriendly for Mesmer

I did Better Red than Dead on mes with 3 cycles. Bad rng between the first and second meant I had time warp up for the first two. But I just used empowering mantras and autoattacked with sword. (I had three mantras plus blink so I could hit the boss for the full duration of the protection and then blink out.)

I do agree that it’s stupid to have fights where phantasms are useless (well, pretty close to useless—if you use triumphant diversion, some of them can get off one attack, which I only figured out when I was doing the last boss for the second time, after I’d gotten better red than dead…), but in the grand scheme of things this one wasn’t too bad.

Putting it all together, I guess my suggestion is: empowering mantras + triumphant distortion. Three mantras + blink. As you run to melee the boss summon izerker—it’ll get an attack off before it dies. Swap to sword/whatever (maybe torch for the burn like draxynnic suggested, or maybe iduelist can also get off a few shots with triumphant distortion, or maybe iswordsman can get off one attack, I’m not sure), time warp, swing your sword again and again, blink out as the protection wears off. Maybe mantra of pain for more burst towards the end of the protection (like draxynnic suggested).

The best thing Anet have done for dungeon people in a long, long time is give the interview where they all but said they weren’t supporting dungeons any more. It killed any vestiges of hope that had clung on after Fractured (or after Hrouda was fired, or after he stopped posting in the dungeon forums, or…) and made it a lot easier to convince people who are newer to the forums of this:

We’re at the bottom of the totem pole; it’s a sad reality that the things we care about just aren’t a priority for them.

(On a personal note, it also convinced me to play super casually, logging on about once every one or two weeks to pug dungeons with a friend or two who are also mostly not playing. And that’s been nice ’cause GW2 has turned out to be way more fun for me that way.)

Or perhaps we should have a think about the impact that CDI has had across all aspects of the game in what can only be described as a swift manner in development terms.

One thing that might help (and maybe this has been made clearer in recent CDIs; I haven’t followed them very much!) is making explicit that players should not expect anything to change on the basis of a CDI. With raids I think that’s especially important to make clear—I suspect that otherwise, a lot of people will think that the CDI means that raids will eventually be coming to GW2.

(I can only speak about the fractal CDI, because it was the only one I was in a position to contribute to. But we’ve seen very little change as a result of that CDI. Dredge got fixed, and that was great, but nothing else changed substantially (ascended drop rates were tweaked, but that wasn’t substantial). And I’m not complaining, I promise—I understand that Anet has limited resources, and fractals/dungeons are a low priority, whether there’s a CDI about them or not. I just think it’d be good to make this clear at the start, because otherwise people will jump from, for example, “Chris is talking to us about reworking fractal rewards” to “fractal rewards will be reworked!”)

I’m sorry but this game is too amazing to not have any endgame content.
Fractals and playing dress up isnt end game content.
The game was great, until I hit 80….now its boring, nothing to do.
I love crafting in any mmo, I usually horde mats and such. GW2 theres no reason to, why waste my time when all crafting is for is the nicest gear, but there is no reason to have it unless you want to run a 5-man fractal (5 MAN!?, might as well call it an expert dungeon)
There are too many games out there that have everything gw2 has and much more.
Devs need to figure out a way to keep people engaged at 80, fractals and playing barbie dress up is not it.
WE NEED RAIDS!

There already are raids like triple wurm, tequatl, jormag etc.

But yeah there’s no 20 man dungeons, although I think that would be fun. But not 20 man, more like 10 man or 15 man, that’s enough or it stops feeling like a dungeon.

I really, really hope we will get to see Underworld in GW2 some day.

I am terribly sorry sir but these examples are perfect for my original post. How are these considered raids??? They are more like dynamic events or something. Not a raid, no way. I tried teq once….made it all the way to the end….didn’t know mechanics or anything for that matter and it was simple. What raid have you ever played where its that easy. Raids are supposed to punish you for not knowing mechanics, be tough for people who want it easy.
These so called “raids” are not even close…go play RIFT and they have these events all day long! (tougher than teq though mind you which if I’m not mistaken is once a day)
If you like these type of “EVENTS” go play rift…you will be satisfied.

There are no raids in GW2 sorry folks. If you think there is go play an mmo with “real” raids. Then tell me how simple teq or your GW2 (raids…lol) are.
I just don’t understand I guess…lmao

Raids like you have in other MMOs were historically not what Anet wanted end game content to be in GW2. Maybe that has changed, and maybe we’ll see raids in the traditional sense in GW2. But historically, that was not the plan: if you wanted a game that ended in traditional raids, GW2 simply wasn’t the game for you.

Here is my idea. Each dungeon will have a “Raid” mode available upon completion of story mode and all of the explorable paths. This dungeon will have many “mini-bosses” which award a chest for a chance at exclusive materials/runes/sigils. The end of the dungeon will have substantially harder boss than what would be typically seen in explore mode. The end rewards have a 100% chance to drop exclusive materials needed to craft new “raid” set equipment. This “raid” set equipment will carry the same stats as ascended gear but will appear as purple gear in your bag. The only way to get the gear is to craft it.

This sounds like hard mode, which they’ve said repeatedly that they are not going to add. (They’ve said it repeatedly because lots of people who do dungeons want it! But they’ve been consistent with this for a long time now. If you want hard mode dungeons, GW2 is not the game for you.)

They don’t want exclusivity which makes games competitive and fun IMO. Sometimes I want to be rewarded for my hard work and have something others don’t, not be given it.

Well, the actual reason Colin gave for not adding hard mode is that it fractures the playerbase—you split up the people who do hard mode dungeons from the people who don’t. I don’t fully understand this justification, because in the next sentence, Colin said that the goal was instead to have some dungeons that are harder than others, so that the people who want more of a challenge just do the harder dungeons. That seems to me to fracture the playerbase the same way, into the people who do the harder dungeons and the people who don’t. But at any rate, that’s the thought behind no hard mode.

Don’t get me wrong: I’d definitely also like to see hard mode, and honestly I’d even be happy if all it came with were scaled up rewards! New skins would be a bonus, but unlikely—Anet have said that new art is at a premium in the company, and so these days new skins are mostly reserved for things that involve a large portion of the playerbase.

I’m just saying that I think your energy would probably be better spent proposing something other than something like hard mode dungeons, because Anet have been consistently opposed to them. (I don’t know if they’ve talked about this even more recently, but I know they mentioned it in that interview when they said there were no plans to add new dungeons.)

I would be so happy if raids turned out to be more dungeons! But that’s just for selfish reasons, because I like dungeons and don’t have much interest in doing raids with larger groups of people. Dungeons are the endgame content I want! (I’d be fine with FoW/UW/Urgoz/Deep/DoA, too! Or even things like Slaver’s Exile or Sorrow’s Embrace.)

But I’d be surprised if Anet wound up adding new dungeons under a different name any time soon, because it would be a big and sudden shift for them—they’ve explicitly said that they aren’t working on new dungeons.

Anyway, to echo other people: please no gear treadmill.

People dont do dungeons for puzzles. The only non combat puzzles i dont mind are ones like TAFU’s bee corridor. It doesnt slow you down if you know what you are doing.

But Aetherpath puzzles slow don’t slow you down much if you have a full team of people who know what they’re doing. And that’s not really different from the dredge puzzles (especially the new version of the flamethrowers). Aetherpath puzzles do take a little longer, but on one of them, to a large extent the extra time is actually a matter of making sure that you don’t suck at combat—you need enough coordinated cc/dps/reflects/whatever to keep the oozes alive.

The floor is definitely different, just timing and patterns, and I can see how if you don’t like that kind of content, you wouldn’t enjoy it. But that’s basically the bees—timing and patterns. It’s just more of it, and you need more people to do it. And I don’t think that not liking this is really a matter of what belongs in dungeons. I mean, I wouldn’t want a dungeon that’s nothing but puzzles, but I actually like aetherpath more because it has a couple puzzles to break things up (but which don’t take much time if everyone is doing them correctly).

The unskippable cutscenes and dialogue are complete kitten, though.

Um… just one thing ANet…. when you look at the base ingredients for say, Zojja’s masque, it LOOKS like you need only 150 scraps of silk, because the picture of the silk scrap covers the EXTRA ZERO. You actually need 1500. This is true for all the the base materials for the light armor. In every one it looks like hundreds instead of thousands.

That really needs to be fixed. Really. I thought I already had all I needed and went to make some stuff and was confused as to why I couldn’t make as much as I needed. Turns out I need more than 9000 more scraps than I thought. Bad. Very bad.

If you are referring to that feature on the wiki, the wiki is player maintained, not ANet. Also, again if you are referring to the wiki, I dont see that problem on my browser so it might be a browser or device issue.

Hmmm… ok, so I had originally used Google Chrome to open up the window. I just tried Explorer and it does show up correctly. Argh! Sorry for my assumption that this was something that ANet should fix. Obviously I have to use Explorer for the wiki now :p Would be nice if all browsers worked the same.

Works for me in Chrome. The last 0 is farther to the right than the last digit of the other numbers, though, so maybe there’s something set up differently in your browser that results in less space between the numbers and icons? Here’s what it looks like for me:

That’s a little tricky, because you don’t want to let people just grind low level fractals and get ascended stuff (or, worse, fractal skins). But there was lots of discussion about this problem and possible solutions during the fractal CDI. So it’s clear that fixing fractal rewards is a very low priority for them.
