Most ppl love to have a long term goal, its the minorities that wants everything either handed to them or with minimal effort and making the entire game world full of clones wearing the same gears. Hate this type of mechanics? MMOs are not for u.
I don’t want it easy enough for everyone to be “handed” the items. Thats not what my main concern with gw2 is.
Make it easy? No.
Less chinese-bot gold farm style grind? Yes.
When running dungeons with friends become so monotonous that you call it chinese-bot gold farm style grind…that’s not really the game’s fault.
I think the only thing in this game that’s stupidly ‘grindy’ to obtain are account bound stuff that only drops at slim chance (certain Ascended)…you can’t even buy them off trading post means no alternative way of obtaining them and thus have to repeat something you don’t really feel like doing anymore to obtain them…Very bad, need fix.
MMO at the endgame is always about ingame currency…GW2 has so many ways of obtaining currency is why it feels less grindy (to me) than other MMOs.
and for those saying that I ONLY see the GRIND, i will give an example of Non-grinding mechanic:
Getting the two mini pets from Wintersday – one run of each of the 5 scenarios gives all the necessary materials fro making the two minis
Um…no. That’s cuz ur satisfied with 2 minis. If you want more, or heck, if you want tonics from Mystic Forge, u’d need more stuffing or glue which if there was no economy u’d have to grind for wintersday boxes.
That’s as bad as someone saying “hey i got my Exotic AC boots from running AC explorable’s paths 1 time each! not a grind!”
According to your post, playing the darn game is a grind. Sad.
EDIT: who cares if that’s what people call it, grind or whatever, it is a mechanic that exists in all MMO and it’s what keeps players in. Most ppl love to have a long term goal, its the minorities that wants everything either handed to them or with minimal effort and making the entire game world full of clones wearing the same gears. Hate this type of mechanics? MMOs are not for u.

Void MF in dungeons, done.
I severely doubt on-kill farming in dungeons is even the least bit intended by the devs…good riddance if this discourages people to farm certain spawns in dungeons.
Everything is a grind if you want treat it as one.
The grind we are usually used to in MMO is something we HAVE TO do to stay competitive, or to fit in, to participate in content.
You don’t need legendaries, you don’t need sexy skins…no one is going to exclude u from parties cuz u don’t have a specific weapon skin or a legendary, unless they are kitten You get level 80 in 3 days, or 2 hrs if you craft, and by then you are almost guaranteed a set of viable armor (yes, Rare is viable, lvl 78 exotics are viable) to participate in every content without feeling gimped.
Dark Souls is a grind if you’re going for all the weapons and armors, Call of Duty is a grind if i want prestige 10000x, Starcraft is a grind if i want to get to/stay in Grand Master league…Everything’s a grind. Life is a grind.
Games have to feed the achievement/goal oriented players that don’t mind and actually love this kind of “grind”, those are the most dedicated players. GW2 does it in a way that is more subtle and optional than most, take satisfaction in that.
Not saying GW2 is perfect at this stage, an overhaul is needed to cure the empty map syndrome, bugs still running rampant, inconsistencies with certain loot tables…knowing Anet, they will fix them.
Level 1 to 30 for a new character is always fun for me, unlock new weapon skills, utility, learning the class itself, and the personal story quests pre-level 30 is very diverse!!
Level 60+ is fun because you unlock your entire Trait tree, so you can actually come up with a semi-complete build, and the maps 60+ all yield exotics upon completion.
Level 30 to 60 is very stale, on few of my earlier characters I did those zones because the resource nodes were decent money (Gold Ores, Seasoned Wood Logs, Cotton), but now teleporting bots totally killed their value.
Even without factoring in bots, as I’m becoming more wealthy ingame, this incentive is just not enough. I can’t do it “for fun” anymore because i’ve completed those maps multiple times on multiple characters, now that I’m on my 6th and 7th lvl 80, I tend to just craft through these levels…which makes me feel bad for the map designers who put so much work to creating those midlevel maps. They are beautiful maps, and for the first few times they were fun, but they don’t have lasting value like the 60+ maps simply because majority of players don’t flock to zones with no rewards.
———————————————————————————————————————————————————
Of course, I think the entire game needs an overhaul in the dynamic event part because they are simply too inconsistent. A 20 minute long escort quest yields same reward(or less) as a 3 minute “kill this thing” is just ridiculous (unless it is part of a chain event that leads to something epic such as Balthazar). Which brings me to…why do dragon chests yield more than Orr temple quests such as Lyssa and Balthazar? Those require a lot more coordination and teamwork than just autoattacking a pinata for 3 minutes…heck who even does Lyssa anymore, hardest event for measly 4 blues or greens for most of the time.
The current loot table is fine in my opinion, however there is not enough rolls.
Take wintersday gifts for example, the odds are low for bells and tonics, but players can do many many rolls if they wished if they put in the time.
Make more Dynamic events yield chests…dragon chests shouldn’t be the only ones that give 7 items. Most [Group Event] that isn’t part of a chain event should yield a chest, yielding appropriate amount of items (i.e. Champions, Eye of Zhaitans, etc etc).
To make things interesting, put in MVP system for large boss events so people don’t just wait until the boss is 1% hp before jumping in and tagging it.
Bottom line is, dynamic events need finetuning, can not just give them all equal rewards regardless of time spent, it discourages players to do them. Not asking for a huge loot buff in PVE as that will encourage excessive zergin meaning less LFGs for dungeons.
They don’t really match the prefix other Shaman/Travelers gears offer.
Shaman is supposed to be Vit/Condition/Healing Power, not Vit/POWER/Healing power? Is this intended?
Crest of the Traveler is no different from Opal atm…is this intended as well?
@Glitch: I knew it was a misunderstanding. No apology was needed on your part. I don’t think ill of any of you guys.
To clarify what I was going on about, I was looking for people who are new to certain dungeons to do those specific dungeons with. This way everything is new to everyone, and we can come up with ways to deal with new challenges, goof up together, laugh about it, and it’ll be a lot more memorable than if I ran with someone who knew what’s coming up, what to prepare for, etc etc and just lead everyone else by their hands til the end. It’s difficult at this stage but I’ll keep trying, in a very creepy way if I have to by whispering random people in the game lol.
Don’t worry about the charity or commitment thing since that was part of our misunderstanding and thus off-topic.
@Glitch I’m not trying to go for a challenge (i’d be playing PvP or a different game if I wanted just a challenge), it’s more of sharing the experience of discovering new content, be surprised, trying to figure out things with others, and eventually share the glory. After 800 hrs I’m pretty much worn out of the non-dungeon PvE experience because I’ve made 8 characters, 4 lvl 80s the rest 40~70s, i’ve enjoyed every step of the way don’t get me wrong but, after the 8th time…
On helping others for fun, yes, I was that guy for 10 yrs+ of my MMO gaming life when i was still in school/college, and that’s with games that did not even reward helping other players at all (re-running AC at least get u scaled loot and its kinda fun) now with the limited time I have with work and irl stuff, I would like to change my priorities within the free time I have on GW2.
I’m missing the point of this thread I guess, didn’t know this was a guild commitment thing. I thought it was just, where ppl meet others and hang out. In fact I’m beginning to think this belongs in the Guild Recruitment subforum after reading the alienating responses from Glitch i.e. “We are not what you are looking for”.
Sorry for coming here thinking this was a gathering ground for the entire GW2 community, instead of another Guild Community with specific requirements for commitment. I’ve been playing with some irl friends with my own guild just for the guild stash and bonuses so I can’t contribute much in another guild. Thanks for reading and have fun in game.
Im neither looking for help or committing to a charity. I guess I just wanted to check here and see if anyone is in the same situation. But i guess most people rather have experienced dungeon runners to help than go experience something new together with someone else just as clueless about the dungeon. I really should have started dungeon stuff earlier while everyone’s practically new to everything…instead I waited for my dream team of irl friends to catch up to me and they never did.
Hello everyone! I think this is a great thread and something i desperately need right now. I guess I will post my info first like Glitch suggested.
Name: Jinn
Main Character: Shaerna
Current Server: Dragonbrand
Interested Activities: Atm, dungeons.
Active: Play 2 hrs a day minimum, a lot more on weekends. Time zone is Eastern Time.
Additional Comments: I played this game a lot, since BWE1. Currently at 800 hrs with multiple lvl 80s and experienced with all professions. At the moment I’m looking for people who has not done many dungeons to do dungeons with because my obsession with fresh experience. It just doesn’t feel challenging and there’s no element of surprise if I chose to join routine dungeon runners (too easy…i want to feel pressured or panic). I didn’t think it would be this difficult since I don’t need to find 4 of such people because I already have a close friend and my girlfriend at lvl 80 that can play almost anytime.
So, I’m missing 22 paths still, all the explorable mode starting from TA to Arah, and story mode from HoTW to Arah (yes 800 hrs and haven’t finished story yet…) But if you are not as obsessed as fresh experience as I am, I can still help you with stuff I’ve done before.
Are you willing to participate in Operation: UNION’S project, Yes.
Hope to hear from some of you in game This is my last attempt at this, I’ve been wasting time asking around in map chat in lion’s arch the past few days or at dragon events, but either faced with sarcasm or just flat out ignored lol.
gaming is becoming a job ?
Do you know what an analogy is? He simply made a better analogy than you did. In case you didn’t know, gaming has already become a job. Ever heard of eSport and progaming? You entertain me with your witless comments, keep it up. I’m bored at work.
the bag…..
its about
the baaaaaag!
Mr Avatar, we all love this game, it’s because we care that we want them to address this issue. It’s a bag that is worth around 15 gold minimum. To many players that’s a big deal that they missed out. We want it straightened out. You are pretty immature to respond to every other message with taunts. Learn to keep your replies more productive.
Very helpful. We have a problem, so we turn away and move on. What are you guys doing in Suggestions thread in the first place? lol
Point me to where it says it’s solved?
All I see is chaos in the discussion thread where people are still getting double rewards, no rewards, etc etc. Thanks.
Reimbursement based on Qualification is flawed so we have people with double reward, people who didn’t participate getting free stuff, people who tried and disconnected getting nothing. How to salvage?
step 1: Quickpatch: Make 20 Slot Karka Bags and/or Karka Shell Accessory Indestructible (can’t be vendored, destroyed, TP’d, salvaged, mystic toilet’d)
step 2: Scan all accounts for those items, mail each account with less than 2 copies of those items (since people have been double rewarded by mistake already).
step 3: Mail everyone with less than 2 Bag/Shell enough boxes to get them up to 2.
step 4: Reverse step 1.
Don’t know how long it takes to scan accounts for specific items, but seeing how they were able to track the infamous Karma exploiters back then to the point of being able to tell how many karma items they obtained via the exploit, i’d think it’s feasible but takes a long time. Yes, I’m saying everyone gets 2 sets of reward boxes eventually at this point because the whole thing is FUBAR atm and this is one of the only simple straightforward options I can think of.
Thoughts?
T
Can’t Anet do a scan on each account for 20 slot karka bags? I severely doubt ppl just “destroy” those bags for laughs n giggles. So whoever has one of those gets 1 more box in the mail, whoever has none of those gets 2 boxes in the mail, and whoever has 2 gets nothing. At this point everyone will be at even level. Sure, people who never participated gets free stuff, but that has already happened anyway. Then people would start deleting those boxes to get more free stuff :P
I had to do the event twice, because I got disconnected, but I got the chest that day and i didn’t receive any mail. I’m ok with that, I had a quite good experience that day.
The only thing I don’t like is the fact that I really hoped everyone who lost their chests would have a chance to get it, despite other people getting more than one, but it hasn’t happened that way. It’d have been better if everyone had a chest, so no one would actually miss it, instead of this fix which nobody understands.
Then to those guys, go ahead and start destroying their 20 slot bags. Anet isn’t going to say “ok here’s what we’re gonna do” and announce it before hand. Considering 20 slot bags are worth a few gold and people love them, would they want to destroy them for a chance that Anet would go through with some random poster’s idea? The way Anet does things, no one knows HOW they are determining it, so deleting ur 20 slot bags is a pretty big risk.
This turned out to be a huge mess.
In summary, right now there are 3 things that should not be happening, are happening:
1. People who participated, got reward, got another box in the mail. Double reward for these Chosen Ones?
2. People who never even logged on or participated in the event got a box in the mail. “Don’t know what this Karka thing is…but hey I got free stuff!”
3. People who participated, DC’d at the reward or missed out, still have no box in the mail. Sucks to be them, I hope they get their share.
Instead of this double lucky ones, undeserving ones, and unlucky ones thing…
Can’t Anet do a scan on each account for 20 slot karka bags? I severely doubt ppl just “destroy” those bags for laughs n giggles. So whoever has one of those gets 1 more box in the mail, whoever has none of those gets 2 boxes in the mail, and whoever has 2 gets nothing. At this point everyone will be at even level. in game I want…a Mini Trahearne…or a Trahearne Potion…or Caladbolg Skin…
in real life I want a Trahearne Christmas Tree ornament, Trahearne’s stockings, Plush Trahearne, Trahearne figurine that says things like:" Commander, a moment please. Moving on. This wont end well."
I just feel…there’s not enough Trahearne in my life. Please make my wishes come true. Thank you.
I appreciate all the maps in this game, I really do. It’s depressing though, when I go on a map and see few to almost no other players.
When I started this game during beta weekends and at launch week, it felt like everything I do is so rewarding and I can pretty much just enjoy maps and get that sense of progression. For many players this feeling stops when your character hits 80 because progression begin to come in the form of Gold/Loot/Gear and this form of progression is a lot more difficult to balance.
First of all I’m against the common petition for a flat loot scaling on lower lvl maps like most people recommend, this will just encourage farmers to concentrate on the easiest map and farm there, leaving difficult maps empty. (Why farm at Cursed Shores anymore when Caledon Forest yields just as good drops?)
However, fine tuning small bits of events and bosses along with some additions can make a big difference.
Here are some of my suggestions:
- Re-introduce GW1’s Weekly scavenge hunt (like Nicholas the Traveler’s great grandson or something…)
- Reward for ‘waste of time’ champions that are spotted in many locations of the world.
- True Map Vision – reveals all ongoing DEs on the map, non-event Champion spawns, etc, available in any of the below forms: (Hidden JPs and other mini dungeons will remain hidden for players that want to discover them as they go)
– Guild Buff (similar to +10% influence buff), cost 1000 influence or more (guilds can use this Vision and run DEs with many guild members, so the cost needs to match the potential reward in influence.
– Asuran Scanner Item, consumable. Strike a balance btwn its cost and duration obviously.
- Orr needs something. Probably my least favorite maps in the game. Cursed Shores established itself as the endgame farming map well enough but Straits and Malchor sometimes are so empty that events are not even doable. Need more incentive for players to play on Straits and Malchor, either:
– Nerf the enemies (way too many Risen underwater, its just sluggish to even traverse the map because most waypoints are contested and when you try to swim from point A to point B u get dragged to the bottom of the sea with 8 risen eating your face out)
– Add more Pact soldiers. This is a war on Zhaitan. Pact soldiers should be stronger and have a stronger presence here, this is Tyria’s elites united. They shouldn’t only appear in Dynamic events or in towns or outposts, they should be out there, just…fighting.
In addition, buff the loot. Orr maps are designed for group play, but there won’t be any group play if most people avoid setting foot here because there’s no balance between the effort and the reward.
- Better reward for longer events, slower paced events in general.
There are more but I’m out of time, need to get back to work.
TLDR: Maps are well done, however there needs to be a better balance in terms of effort and reward to spread the players out. This is very difficult to do and requires a lot of input from actual players.
To me the first attempt at any dungeon is the most fun, however 99% of dungeon runners in the game have already done them repeatedly and partying with them does not have that ‘adventure’ feel.
A dungeon, during its initial run should present challenges, and the players will figure out a way to overcome them. This only works if you are with a group that:
1. Has no experience in the dungeon (or, with experience but remain silent and act as a follower)
2. Has time & patience and likes to think. (It was depressing when my party, after just 1 wipe at Rozgar the forge, decided to immediately start Youtubing and Wiki’ing for solutions for shortcuts at beating him.)
3. Meets level requirement for the dungeon, because for some reason Anet did not end up implementing upward sidekicking for dungeons (unlike MadKing).
So I am a player who spent a lot of time on this game, and waited for my friends irl to catch up so we can tackle these dungeons together, totally clueless, totally unprepared, totally fun. But due to irl circumstances, they don’t have a lot of time to play anymore and are growing distant from the game. Therefore I’d be happy to find more people who share the same sentiment…aka we should probably hook up and noob up some dungeons (I have 80nec80rgr80war65+mes30+thfand 35+ ele if you want variety and my gf irl plays an 80 guardian who will most likely tag along if i ask nicely)
Edit: I felt like I should post in this section instead of Dungeons because the dungeons section of the forums is mostly efficiency-oriented players and the more ‘fun’ crowd is here.
Edit #2: I’m on Dragonbrand and own a guild for its convenience.
