I agree, a catch-up mechanism would be great. All the dailies you missed would be banked so that you could get them eventually. That way, time-gating still serves its purpose but also gives those who missed them an opportunity to catch up.

I very much so try to understand other people’s POV (I love to play devil’s advocate and try as much as possible not to be biased). That being said, I think those who don’t have plenty of time need to readjust their expectations in that their inability to consume content that other people who have time is not a fault of Anet
But this could all be solved if Anet could allow us to ‘bank’ unfinished dailies.

Catch-up system is a pretty good idea. But that probably will never happen.

Here’s why I think dailies are pretty bad:

On average, it takes me 90 minutes to do my dailies. (Usually 12~ points worth of AP)
About 30 minutes is spent on my PVP daily which I enjoy.
About 40~60 minutes is spent on all PVE dailies minus WvW dailies, I’d skip Story Dungeon and Fractals when they do come up because I simply don’t have the time.

I’d much rather dedicate my time to PVP only, or do a complete high lvl fractal run, a few dungeons with friends, or work towards some new content (Livingstory)…Instead I have to go out of my way and do boring, easier dailies.

Am I any less “dedicated” or "deserving"if I play the game the way I want than following a checklist every day? Either way I’m spending the same amount of time.

….It’s the same thing with people complaining about legendaries being expensive, SAB trib/Liadri/Teq too difficult. Fact is there is content in this game designed in a way that you have to work for it. It’s no different with dailies or time-gated content…

Legendaries are offtopic because most people just dump dollars to Anet for them anyway. It’s not really the same thing. SAB Trib/Liadri/Teq are actual achievements. Time gated dailies are chores that can be done by a bot. I can actually auto-run afk all sorts of Event dailies/Killer dailies on a MM Necro or Ranger. Do they really “deserve” (ur favorite word) to be Achievements? You might as well award people afk’ing in Lions Arch AP.

Achievements have no impact on me; they can be safely ignored. The fact that people seem to cite this as a massive issue does indicate that ArenaNet could do a much better job presenting the concept. But again, similar to the previous point, if you’re “no longer here to play, here to blast through as many achievements as you can” then you simply shouldn’t be here at all. A change in perspective is the best thing you can do to get over this.

I hate to boil it down this much but in general if you find yourself “getting so tired of this” you should pretty clearly just stop playing. I don’t know how it gets more complicated than that for anyone, but it happens all the time. Surely you will agree it is unrealistic to expect a game’s development team to dramatically alter said game in the hopes of retaining you personally.

This game (PVE) has no sense of progression other than Achievement points. (Fractal 50 was fun but that’s the only progression mechanic in place after hitting 80.
The way of getting the said AP is pathetic because it involves so much timegating and deadlines. It was all well and good until AP rewards are introduced. Because It created a potential of very appealing rewards obtainable only through AP.

If the game ever gets good again (has not been since Fractals was implemented for me), returning players don’t want to feel behind and unable to catchup as fast as they’d like due to time gating. So they grit their teeth and carry on with boring dailies.

So basically you want achievement points but you do not want to earn it or don’t like how you earn it.

Quite simply, you don’t deserve it.

Agreed with this. Achievements are for achieving, not begging.

You guys don’t deserve to reply on the forums is really what I think because you can’t interpret people’s posts. I am saying time-gating achievement points is a pretty bad concept. Did i say I want AP without doing anything? Learn to read.

Achievments are for achieving? Achieving what? Achieving in afk’ing in daily activities? Kill 30 ambient creatures?
You guys must think achievement points are some prestigious thing that needs to be ‘achieved’ while it’s actually just a time-gated currency of the game.

And so what if it were a currency of the game and easy to acquire? Do you want all achievements to be on the level of 8-orb Liadri?

Doesn’t matter if it’s time-gated. If you don’t want to (or can’t) log-in every day to do your dailies, then too bad! You dont’ deserve it! The achievement is there for people dedicated to the game. There is no reason why someone who refuses to do daily achievements should be rewarded those who do them.

I understand you want to have an achievement system that is not time-gated, but these time-gated achievements reward those who are dedicated enough to play the game day in day out. If you can’t do that then readjust your expectations or maybe stick to fixed achievements.

8 Orb Liadri is only as horrible as the waiting time between each attempt. If the gauntlet was instanced, it actually has just-right difficulty. Off topic though.

I understand dailies’ current intentions, I didn’t ask for daily AP points to be awarded to people who don’t do dailies. But is this current system good?
I could do dailies, i’ve been doing them almost without fail since inception of the game (other than hurricane sandy hiatus)…but is the game supposed to make players feel like it’s work? I’m gonna keep doing dailies but I’m still gonna be disgusted by it. Many people share the same view.

As a 220ish AP Leaderboard Ranker, I especially feel the weight on points 5, 6, and 7. I’ve been logging on every day to grind my dailies (because they give achievement points!), been doing every Livingstory 100% whether or not I like them (because they give achievement points!)

The “You are not forced to do them” argument is the dumbest thing people came up with. Of course you are not ‘forced’ to do them, but many people want to progress in the game they play. This game lacks progression, the only form of progression in this game is cosmetics and achievement points…it is just unfortunate that this style if progression is heavily time-gated and usually bound to boring/grindy content.

I don’t think it’s a smart idea to time gate so much stuff, and the achievement points too. In the long run you risk losing hardcore players by burning them out. Sure, it makes people want to play every day and not get lagged behind in Achievement points and time-gated items…but once they do lag behind there’s no way to catchup, which leads to “I’m really behind now, no point in playing anymore.”

If AP Rewards were never introduced I probably would have given up on the silly leaderboard climb long time ago, because AP means nothing other than a player’s dedication to dailies and timegated content. But ever since AP rewards were introduced, it was harder to give up not so much because of the current rewards but the potential future rewards Anet will introduce to reinforce the value of AP, their moneymaker.

In conclusion I find this system disgusting.

As a 11300AP player I can tell you I feel for OP’s friend.

All my friends left gradually because the Living Story (or just timegated stuff) updates are beginning to become too overwhelming. I am still barely hanging on, doing my dailies (pve/pvp), and getting 100% on LS content…

I definitely am not enjoying it (other than pvp dailies), but I can’t stop because achievement points, unlike Gold or Exp or Karma, is a currency you can’t play ‘catchup’ on. When you cap out on most of the permanent achievement points, the only things left are Dailies and Livingstories…if you miss them for a few months, u can’t play catchup when you are back because they are timegated.

To be honest a lot of the LS are not very fun, and a lot of them have some grindy task for a good chunk of AP. So AP completionists are pretty much obligated to do them even though it’s boring and time consuming.
It’s just really poor quality content.

So disappointed in this game’s new direction these days that I cringe as I play through my daily and biweekly checklists…let SAB team take the reins of this game, they actually make fun, quality content.

One may ask “So why do you care about AP and rewards if the game has become such a disappointment? Just quit” well my answer is “Maybe one day this game will get better, a lot better again so I will actually care again, and when that time comes, if ever, I do not want to regret missing out on thousands of AP.”

Zerging vs Small groups

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Orpheus.7284

I prefer small groups. Mainly instances consist of 5 party members.

Mindless Zerging is bad.

It doesn’t make it more “social” Creates bad community. Why? People are just mindlessly autoattacking stuff in a zerg, they don’t communicate other than “troll up, oak up” on map chat or troll other players. They also diss each other because of how boring and monotonous the events are, that they absolutely NEED this other type of entertainment. Map chat has gotten so much worse since the early days of this game.

GW2 has lost its soul imo.
Dungeons and fractals are shoved aside in favor of big zerg content because the casuals and trolls want it…
It’s really sad.

My opinion on gauntlet.

The experience heavily depends on what class some people play. For me it was fun, for others maybe not so much. What needs to be improved in the future for such content is accessibility and QA.

Accessibility – I’m ok with the tickets costing some money, i’m ok with repair costs, but I’m not really ok with the queue’ing or walking back and forth after every loss. Difficult content like 5 gambit achievement or Liadri, need practice. I think more people would be fine with retrying the fight until they get it if the downtime for every retry was shorter. If anyone has played Super Meat Boy you’d know what I’m talking about here. Challenging is fine, but let the players re-attempt the fights without too much hassle and waiting time.

Another issue which really keeps some players out of even attempting some fights is camera and visual issues. If Gauntlet ever comes back please make the floor opaque white or black or whatever so red circles can be visible to some folks out there. The fight isn’t about testing people’s eyesight after all?

I’m not going to nitpick on FPS issues due to the events going on underneath your feet, that could be bypassed by playing on lower settings.

QA – using 6 tickets on 5 gambits then go into a fight only to find out someone else came in with you, with another opponent. Dunwell + Liadri no less…it was hilarious, but that’s still 6 tickets and 2 dead people making their way back up to the back of the queue. Also sometimes the queue doesn’t work…so after you waited 3 people and get “it’s your turn to fight” but then it never happens and you see someone else go in, so you realize “oh i’m bugged” and relog and use another ticket….it drives people nuts.

After a gazillion of infused rings, pristine and relics I could build all my alts whit some ascended stuff and after you hit lest say 45+ like me whit I one class, you start getting bored.
But you wanna enjoy the difficult of 30+ whit the rest of you alts and have the same reward chance, no to work toward 30+ over and over again.

The fact I have to run 1-40 whit lest say my 7 character is what I call grinding content.

Again it’s really just rewards being really crappy right now, to the point the ONLY thing that really matters is Fractal Weapon skins (which iirc has a 17%, 27%, and 37% dropping from fractal 28, 38, and 48s). I get the same amount of rares and exotics (mostly account bound junk..) from low level fractals and 48s…

If the rewards were better suited to reflect your time commitment to re-level a character (kinda like leveling a new character you know?), I don’t think many people would mind the process of leveling a character back up as they will be rewarded in the process.

For Southsun Survival, only the first completion gave me achievement points (did it 3 times).

Because if the repeatable (play x games) achievement rewards infinite AP, i will leave my computer logged in GW2 when I’m at work and at overnight and autorun, or keyboard macro to farm achievement points without being booted by the timer.

If you just run into a wall, the AFK timer kicks in. If you have a low score, the game doesn’t count for you (no reward, no achievement progression). Also, that would be classified as botting.

We’re either talking about different things or you’re missing something. I have 40 AP from Southsun Survival which now I am aware will be capped at 50.

And no, it won’t be considered as botting. There are plenty of in depth threads talking about botting etc etc. Autorun is not botting.

I was just being sarcastic anyway about how stupid it would be if the most efficient AP farm comes from minigames LOL

Dungeon rewards was easily abused by the alts.

Uh, no. Two different characters running the same path deserve the same reward.

That is not abuse. That is fair. Or it was fair, until this patch when arenanet shafted anyone who cares about their alts.

Or you can, you know, run with 1 character then switch characters…
It’s not really about shafting alts…you can always play different dungeon paths on different alts…I do think the new reward system is lacking though. Atm it just looks like a crappy fix to CoF farms.

The problem with fractals being character based is that I might have a need to run a fractal and i’m on an alt. Well I have to start at level 1 because this character hasn’t done a fractal before. Except no one wants to run a level 1 fractal, the minimum level they want to run is 10.

I can run level 48s on my lvl 1 fractal alts….you can run whatever you want you just won’t be rewarded the same amount of tokens and chances at fractal skins at the end of the fractals.

In fact that’s probably what I’m going to do when rewards get better for fractals, I’ll do only 48s on my alts to catch up in fractal levels because that’s where the best pugs are at, players know what to do.

I run an apothecary condition build on my thief in PvE with Signet of Malice and out-DPS zerkers while out-surviving them as well the moment I get and maintain 25 stacks on my enemy(s).

That is great because thieves have insane spike damage try it on a class that doesn’t and see if you out damage a zerker build.

Apothecary gear infers conditions. When I say I can out-DPS zerkers, it means I don’t run burst. L2Read.

Even on Apoc Thieves do more damage than most other classes so my quote still stands, Thieves damage is vastly above most other classes even condi based.

I doubt that a 7% crit chance combined with an average hit of 400 on Backstab is anything to cower at. The only reason I ever use my 1 skill is to apply poison when my initiative is recharging. People need to stop assuming that thieves have the highest burst damage when warriors can deal up to 18k with Eviscerate and 33k with 100b. Backstab does a maximum of 8k damage when you go full glass and it crits. But you know what happens when we assume, right? You make an kitten of yourself.

So much misinformation here…

33k with 100b is not burst…its 33k over 3 seconds channel time.
Backstab does well over 8k damage with full glass…try it out sometimes.

Fractals are different than dungeons, there’s a difficulty and reward scale…
Dungeons are same difficulty every time you do it.

People who worked through 40+ levels on multiple characters should have the exclusive benefit of being able to farm 48 fractal daily chests more than once a day to get better chances on fractal weapon skins.

Anyone can craft alts to level 80 and run 1 easy dungeon path for easy reward repeatedly, fractal levels is actual work. 1 fractal level = at least 1 hr commitment.

That said, fractals reward is absolute garbage atm and the fractal weapon RNG system is a joke. That’s probably the only reason why I gave up my fractal progression for my alts (I have 1 lvl 50 fractal, 1 lvl 30ish fractal, then stopped because running lvl 48 fractals multiple times a day is just not rewarding at all for the time it takes)

Leaderboards or AP rewards will be pretty laughable matter at this point.

It’s just stupid for this to not have a cap when there is a cap on Hobby dungeon Explorer…because with Hobby Dungeon Explorer at least you are playing the main game, whereas these are just minigames…

@Zaxares I don’t see anything on my achievement menu that says there’s a limit of how many times it can be repeated. In my case I’ve done 40+ games of southsun survival (was farming for the 2500 points achievement from previous living story content and I guess those games carried over) and I think i’m at an accumulated 40 points for that achievement. I hope it caps at 50 or something…these minigames are really grindy chores for most people.

Do the new repeatable achievements under the new activities (crab toss, Southsun survival, sanctum sprint, etc) reward infinite amount of AP or is it capped like Agent of Entropy or Hobby Dungeon Explorer?

It should be capped right? it just sounds too silly to not be capped…

Minigames imo shouldn’t really reward much AP if at all…look at kegbrawl, no one really played it, everyone (who cared about AP) just farmed or grinded through it…not really fun at all. Heck I couldn’t even find an instance where a real game was taking place…

GW2 is a great game as it is, all the recent Minigame frenzy is really getting annoying. They can be fun for about 2 hours, that’s about it…general PvE and PvP is still way more evolved and complete of a game than any of the minigames…I don’t want to have to stop playing GW2 – the real game, and play minigames, to keep up with Achievement Points.

If you’re not trolling or boasting, did you do it before or after the fix or both?
Did it on Sunday the 28th, dunno about the fix or whatever
Did you really and truly enjoy the content?
Yes, it presented a challenge greater than most dungeons and taught people how to play their classes, half the community doesn’t know which of their classes’ skills are interupts
Do you truly believe that such content should be temporary with only 2 weeks to complete it?
I don’t like temporary content, I want them to stay.
Do you feel satisfactorily rewarded for your time and effort?
Um..I guess, I went there for achievement points, and I got it in reasonable amount of time, this ain’t 2500 points Southsun Survival
Do you think the scaling was done appropriately?
Yeah, I guess, we did T1~T3 with 3 people, and T4 with 5, as long as people contributed their share, the scaling was fair
Do you think the 4 tiers really should have been more of the same or could they have come up with more creative ways to make higher tiers harder?
It’s really not ‘more of the same’, it’s different game totally doing T1~T3 as that was a walk in the park. T4 had that sense of urgency and danger where it was not present in prior Tiers
Do you really think that having the content repeated twice was a good thing?
No. Evon and Kiel versions are redundant
.

My post above yours explained a valid strategy.

The key is to immobilize, burst, interupt when needed, and run. You can’t stand and fight the veterans. You gotta disengage when there’s no plunderers around to kill.

This event favors thief more so than other classes due to several reasons:
Mobility, Damage, Stealth, and almost unlimited amount of Immobilize and Interupts (Sword #2, S/P #3, Pistol #4)

I’ll leave some tips for other classes here too:

Elementalists can RTL into plunderer, and use fire D/D burst combo (#3, turn around aim, #5) then mist form or lightning flash out of danger. In fact, elementalists can run a Valkyrie or Cavalier spec and use Arcane Power so they get some survivability and retain their Burst.

Guardian can assist in many ways. CC with Staff Line of Warding, Hammer Ring of Warding, Immobilize with Scepter #3, Pulling with GS #5…if that’s not your style try Burst Meditation build, for once maybe it gets to shine in something other than hotjoin pvp.

Warrior…I don’t think I need to go into this, but I will anyway. I think Axe/Shield or Mace/Shield do nicely, Axe if you want better burst (Evicerate), Mace if you want more interupts. Shield is for getting out of danger (3s block) and additional interupt. The other set I recommend greatsword as it is still king, #3 skill is pretty epic here as plunderer tends to run the other way, which makes u connect more hits. never use hundred blades unless the target is immobilized long enough. GS also has Rush so you can get in and out quickly.

Mesmers can do all sorts of fancy stuff, they can burst with MW, CC with pulls and pushes, blinking, AoE stealth to disengage, heck even portal to facilitate team mobility. Condition is u gotta be pretty good at what ur doing.

Not too knowledgeable on the burst capabilities of Necro/Engi/Ranger as those are my condi characters. Pretty sure its viable too!

Obviously our strategy only aims to clear it for the achievement, it can’t be compared to a full clear party.

2500 points @ 25-75 points a game

IMO the game design for SS is a bit flawed.

It rewards people to
1.) hoard tons of rations then just go hide for the next 10 minutes.
2.) be the first to die so they get jump start on revenge motes to start spamming 1 in front of live players to rack up points, often times beating even the winner in terms of points.

The gameplay is fine, but it rewards people for the wrong things.

Suggestions:
1.) Cap ration count. This way most matches will not end in one guy sitting on 10 rations in a boat. Encourages more movements and scavenging, thus more opportunities for the Ghost players.
2.) Reward points to top survivors, not just the winner.
3.) Reward more points for Ghosts’s traps, karka kills…or else everyone’s just going to spam 1 for points. because that’s the most efficient.

Basically, the game atm only rewards THE BEST and THE WORST (either be the last man standing or die fast so you have more motes than everyone else….) That is a flawed system.

3man’d T1~T3 relatively easy.

5man’d T4.

2 Berserkers (Thief, War)

Strategy: In and Out. Go in, BURST down plunderers, use plenty of interupts if the plunderer begins the tossing animation. Then get out of combat by running farrrr away, behind the rocks where Mortars spawn. You’re not meant to fight 20~30 veterans with your average group, your targets are just the plunderers and occassionaly the mortar enemies (both have very low hp compared to the other veterans)

Best of luck out there!

If you do believe that you should be playing GW1 and asking for a Precursor in GW1 for your 50/50. There’s no precursor in GW1? How could that be It’s the same game!!

No.

Because a lot of people don’t like WvW. Which is why most Legendary makers farmed EB JP’s back in the day.

Don’t think of Gift of Battle as some kind of golden star award because it is not, it is only 500 Badges and is only a fraction of the easiest-to-obtain component (Gift of Mastery) of a legendary. Note that people need Badges for WvW Armor Skins and etc too.

ALSO, try getting 500 achievement points when you are already done with most easy achievements or purchaseable ones (entropy, emperor), I bet I can get stacks of Badges of Honor in skillless, effortless zerg battles by tapping enemy zergs before you can even get 250 achievement points.

TL:DR: Some people here seem to think Badges of Honor is some kinda hard to obtain prestige relics…it is not. It’s kinda as common as Heavy Mold Bags from Orr if you actually bother to WvW.

I will point out, once again, I don’t enjoy GW1 and will never get 50/50. I’ll be lucky if I can get 30/30. I actually got my GW1 account when they announced the account linking and reserving character names thing for GW2, so I’ve played it even less than you have. So now you get where I’m coming from, maybe. I still support this and think it’s a very good and cool idea.

I knew where u were coming from. The “you” in my last sentences in my previous post was directed towards the OP.

But now that you’ve brought up the fact that you barely played GW1…how would you know how difficult it is to get 50/50?

I say it is not difficult for reasons in my previous post, you and OP apparently think it is and that this “oh so great feat” deserves hundreds of gold on top of the 500 AP, Exclusive Skins and Titles that money can’t buy, in a totally different game…..Got it.

Because I also researched heavily what was necessarily to do to get the points I would need to get everything I wanted. All that information makes it abundantly clear how difficult that task is and why there aren’t many of them in the community.

But who said anything about gold? I definately didn’t say gold. I’m talking about 500AP, that’s all. That is worth 2 gold at best, and that is only if you have a brand new account since it would get you the 100 prize and the 500 prize.

He’s asking for a precursor for every 50/50s…which atm is anywhere up to 600g. I thought this is the idea you were supporting.

I actually see a lot of 50/50s out there, i know some 50/50s that don’t even play GW2 anymore and went back to GW1…there is quite a few of them in the community I can assure you.

Also, people value things differently. In my previous post I already stated the current reward is very good because they can’t be bought with GW2 gold. They’re “exclusive”.
Anyone can get a precursor from the TP by running CoF for a week if they want to. But no amount of CoF is going to get you Fiery gauntlet (which is still one of the best looking vambraces in the game imo), no amount of CoF will get you 500 achievement points, and no amount of CoF will get you GWAMM title. They are priceless.

I got GW1 1 year before GW2 came out. Played for around 4months (Sept ~ Dec 2011)

Got 30/30 on my account.
Helped g/f get 25/30 on her account.
Helped 2 more friends get 15~20/30 HoM.
I had fun.

In 4 months. I didn’t even log that many hours…I work 9-5.

I’m 2300 hours into GW2 with 9.1k achieve, 9 lvl 80 chars including all professions each with 50%~100% map completion, R25 PvP, L50 FOTM, etc, yet I don’t have a precursor. I’m having fun.
Pretty sure I could 50/50 my gw1 account in a fraction of that amount of gameplay time if not less.

You wanna show max dedication to guild wars? Buy gems to convert 600gold. You’ll have your precursor that way. Otherwise, just have fun.

It takes no time at all to 30/30, 50/50 is a whole other discussion entirely. It’s also the reason why 30/30 is the last level that gives a tangible prize.

I don’t mean 30/30 and 50/50 has little difference… But if you played GW1 for awhile (unlike me i played only 4 months off and on) you are gonna get it. Because the most time consuming achievements are money based. So basically if you’ve been playing GW1 for a few years you’re gonna get it.

I have a friend…he’s spent thousands of real life money on GW2, almost 2000 hours, I’d say he’s more commited to GW than most. Guess what he doesn’t have? HoM Skins, Titles, 500 potential achievement point that can make a difference in his standing of the leaderboards…Be satisfied already, you got things that people can’t buy and you’re asking for a 10g~500g bonus? So petty.

Oh I already got my Precursor and Legendary. I don’t need another. My suggestion was merely that, a suggestion. All my 50/50 brethren would stand to benefit from a bonus such as this. Again, it’s not necessary or anything, but would be a nice extra gift. Also, if a free Precursor was given to all 50/50 players, it wouldn’t be considered “entitlement”, since it would be deserved.

On a side note, it’s funny how you think it’s easy to max the HoM title. It’s like saying winning the World Cup is easy, since you only have to kick a ball into a large net more than the other team. The fact that you don’t have it maxed is proof enough that it’s a little too kittence you attempt it, you’ll finally understand how great a feat it is, and then you’ll definitely entertain my suggestions as being legit and fair.

I can’t believe you just compared getting 50/50 in HoM to winning the World Cup.

I didn’t do 50/50 because I wasn’t interested in the titles and rather spend my resources helping my friends’ accounts.

It’s good that you feel accomplished and believe that it’s some great feat…to me it just is not. That is all.

Actually, I think I’m being trolled by this thread. The whole “50/50 in a different game for a precursor” “50/50 = Winning World Cup” “what a great feat” has led me to this conclusion.

Can we have Boon/Condi for our pets display somewhere near our skill bar kinda like how we have our boon/condi above our utility bar? Maybe above the F1~F4 skill icons?

This helps players monitor their pets better, thus making them better rangers.

I understand I could just click on my pet to check its boons/condi once in awhile but that’s very inconvenient in midst of battle. I rather have my target selected at all times to monitor their boon/conditions instead.

Started playing Necro in pvp 3 days ago: so far my experience is that this class is very very strong…

I main a Thief and occasionally played meditation Guardian in pvp.
R24, very casual, daily/monthly completer. I do have 100+ hours at least on each profession in PvE (and lurked on forums for each profession) so I understand each classes abit. I do mostly hotjoins as I don’t have a team and I don’t like wasting waiting time on pugging.

My necro experience in PvE was 300 hrs+, but I think so far only 5 hours in PvP. Altroll tutored me for 2 hours when I just began playing so I did learn alot, but in heat of battle I do not know the best combos, misplace some of my AOEs, prematurely use utilities, and Deathshroud/Weaponswap horribly, and I am not used to kiting as I am used to Thief/Guard’s melee style.

My result however…Topstat’d (highest score, almost a perfect K/D ratio) most hotjoins which really isn’t anything to brag about as 1. topstat doesn’t matter 2. its hotjoin BUT, I managed to do that while playing poorly…

It’s easier to 1v2 or even 1v3 and still holding my ground on a Node as a necro. Large hp pool, deathshroud, lots of fears, huge healing burst, decent single target pressure from just autoattack with scepter…I’m downing people and I don’t even know how! All I’m doing is spamming aoe condi, transfering stuff to them, converting their boons to condi, and spamming fear!! I feel like the biggest change is Spectral Wall as it is just so powerful. U can trap ppl in corners, shoo away pursuers, stand in it on a node to keep away melee bursts and drive people off nodes…just so many uses! I can imagine why people think they are overpowered in the hands of an actually good Necro!!

Interestingly I feel like Warrior is one of the tougher people to fight against (yeah, the weakest pvp class) because they don’t do alot of conditions for you to eat/transfer, they are practically immune to conditions with recent patches, and large health pool. Hammer warriors do alot of CC which Necros are kind of weak against (lack of stability)…iono, tough matchup. The warrior has to be wellplayed though.

That’s all there is to report so far from my newbie experience as OP necro!

Began legendary project January.

Currently have all but precursor (Spark)
Sank nearly 400 Gold to Mystic Forge on 80 rare/exotic daggers.

I refuse to buy it from TP because most likely the seller of it is someone undeserving that got really lucky, and because of that I am bitter and just won’t buy it from those people out of jealousy and spite.

Have since stopped gambling for it and spent gold for Cultural armors, Infused Fractal Backpieces, Ascended Accessories for my many alts, and hope a Spark to drop for me one day, if it never drops, whatever, I feel more accomplished from my Sword/Dagger/Pistol Fractal Weapon set since that is actually obtained via doing something less braindead aka Fractal 48s.

4 of us stealth chain in the corner, none of us got hit by anything during barrage phase.

I got hit by every attack besides the barrage phase.

Result: I got the achievement but the other 3 people who were in stealth with me the entire time did not.

Conclusion: Achievement obviously bugged as 3 of my friends moved with the same precision as me in the stealth chain, yet I was the only one to get the achievement.

As this event is coming to an end I don’t see anything Anet can do about this so I just wish better QA is done when a challenging achievement is implemented in the future.

At first I thought the red circles from the barrage phase was RNG based too then I realized it’s the fact we weren’t running together, instead running around individually like chickens with our heads cut off so there’ll be times where the direction I’m dodging is actually being pummeled because a friend just left that area…

It is not RNG.

2 KEY things you need to know and overcome is:

1. Cannon phase, stick together, don’t go ahead of your teammates u’ll get them killed. Requires certain degree of coordination.

2. Mai Trin’s Shadow Shot skill almost always targets people who’s trying to max range her. So just stay in 600ish range. This is what kills a lot of the glassy builds.

I hope they never introduce a 1-shot attack that can’t be evaded.

It’s ALWAYS better to spec for offense and mitigate damage by being attentive and reacting fast in combat, rather than spec’ing defensive bunker and face tank stuff while dishing out no damage. The latter is a lot more slow and boring and skill-less, which makes a less interesting game whereas the former is dynamic and punishes you for your own mistakes while rewarding you for playing well.

That is not to say we need more DPS check encounters like Arah P4 Simin, but we definitely should not be biased against zerker builds when designing difficult content as they are actually the most difficult to play. (4W1M CoFP1 is not endgame content)

As with almost everything in life the sweet spot is somewhere in the middle.

Going full DPS is not always harder, many of the bosses in this game prove that. If you go full DPS you can kill them before they even use their skills, in NO way is that harder than trying to actually tank them out.

No one likes the AR because its much harder to Zerker through it and thtas one of the downsides of making DPS the most important factor in dungeons.

As far as I know 99% of the encounters glass can do tanks can do, except safer and slower. There are a few anomalies like Old Tom (where you can actually run out of crystals before you kill him…) or the old Arah P4 Simin (DPS check fight that is supposedly fixed, can’t tell since I only do P4 with DPS parties)
The ‘kill them before they can do anything’ is pretty rare only thing comes to mind is AC p1p3 endboss and CoFP1 slave driver.

Doing things slower doesn’t mean it’s more difficult.

Also, “No one likes AR” statement is kinda exaggerated. I actually just did it with my friends last night, none of us had any prior knowledge to the dungeon, wiped once at laser and twice at endboss. Overall 1hr20min dungeon for our first run. 4 GCs (2 thf 1 war 1 necro) 1 guardian. Guardian only died when she’s ressing someone or on purpose cuz everyone else wiped. Conclusion she thought the dungeon wasn’t hard while the 4 glass cannons felt the challenge but we know with practice we can do it flawlessly. Had we ran the dungeon on our bunker classes it’d have been a walk in the park but with a set up like that we are hard-capped in terms of running efficiency by our lower damage output. This can be said with most other dungeons or higher lvl fractals.

What with all the qq? Stop whining.

I think this dungeon counts as “challenging but accessible”. The only inaccessible part is probably some of the bonus achievements (mainly the 15min boss fight one because that requires the whole party to be experienced in the fight, the other ones are gimmicky and you can treat it like you’re playing Crash Bandicoot on playstation 1).
Achievement hunters are usually already pretty seasoned players. So this is totally doable for them.

For newer players…why bother with the 3 difficult bonus achievements in the dungeon if you are still new to the game and have tons of other options to get achievement points. Achievement points should be the least of your worries. If I just started the game recently I honestly wouldn’t even bother with achievement points because i know I’ll never be ranked unless something drastic happens to the current system where the early players accumulated 70% of their achievement points from doing dailies…

Good technique to learn is LoS pulling.

The concept of LoS pulling is to aggro an enemy, then turn into a corner where he can’t range you, so he has no choice but to run up around the corner where he can see you again. When you aggro multiple enemies like that, they will naturally stack up at the point where they reach the corner.

Keep this technique in mind and focus on LoS pulling 1 side of the Seal (The side where you killed both starting Chanters.) Have 2 designated runners (people who can take some hits or people who can stealth) to handle running hammers back and forth. Whenever you hit a seal, run back to where the group is stacked and drop the hammer for the next person, they will then get the Hammer proc off one of the LoS enemies that are constantly being killed.

Shadow return nerfed

Orpheus.7284

reason it was nerfed was because it is a non cooldown stun breaker

too much range enabled to hit players and escape out of their absolute field of combat

enabled thiefs to attack from 2 places at once for example jump from high place hit enemy a bit teleport back to wall shoot em a bit rinse and repeat.

It’s still a non cooldown stun breaker.
1200 range is still out of a lot of players ‘absolute field of combat’, whatever that means.

All it did is reduce the range. and made it buggy where you get stuck in random things a lot.

This one is a lot smaller(so far, as Queen is not in yet), but it was still pretty enjoyable.

Canach fight is kind of buggy (boss randomly reseting HP and walks away…mines randomly flip back to red…)but the concept is pretty cool. Reward is pretty generous for something that can be done in 4minutes.

Null is a great fight, a lot of little things to worry about. Not too hard so even disorganized pugs can do it.

The thief is just too glassy to be considered “good” in PvE and your video proves it.

The answer to this debate is always the same:

All professions can be extremely effective in PvE if well equipped and well played. However, each profession has a much different skill/effectiveness curve.

Yes thieves can be effective as warriors/guardians. No your average thief is not as effective as your average warriors/guardian. It isn’t because thief players or thieves as a profession are bad, but because it takes much less skill to pull out average effectiveness out of a boon-based heavy armor profession than a condition-based evasion profession. So, yes, it makes sense that pickup groups will take other professions over thieves it isn’t that the thieves can’t be good, it is that other professions are a much safer bet since even a terrible guardian will bring more to the group than an okay thief. Those distinctions don’t matter as much in guild-created consistent groups though

A large step towards normalizing this curve would be to make conditions as effective as boons in their given roles. There’s no reason for Aegis to be so much better than Blind in PvE. They’re counterparts, and the decision to make debilitating conditions so much less effective on bosses was extremely poorly though out. As long as that paradigm exists, thieves will be heavily relegated to damage roles since much of their utility is rendered simply ineffective by mechanics.

Like this post.

Blind vs Aegis though…Blind is better vs groups of normal mobs, Aegis helps against champ/legend bosses at FoTM40+. Blind would be too OP if they worked on bosses too.

God there is so much misinformation in this thread. The main two are summarized here:

A.) Thieves are not offensively stronger than other classes. In fact, their skills have lower coefficients across the board to compensate for their ability to spam. However, the spamming only affects burst DPS, their sustained DPS is the same as or even slightly weaker than other classes due to the lower coefficients. This is mostly why you see so many Thieves running glass cannon builds, because they have to to play off the only strength the class has – burst DPS. The combination of so-so sustained DPS, very poor attrition, and lack of good thread reduction/damage mitigation makes Thief one of the hardest classes to play in open-world PvE and in dungeons.

B.) Stealth does not reduce threat anymore. Smoke Bomb in the downed state is so brokenly useless in PvE that it’s actually laughable. I have played every class in PvE and the Thief’s downed state is easily the worst for both getting a rally and surviving for enough time to get some assistance. Some others are great (Warrior, Ranger, Mesmer), but all others have skills that are at least situationally useful and can usually do appreciable damage.

A.) CnD and backstab rotation is darn good for a skill that has a 3 second reveal cool down. It’s single target and in many pug setups it’s not practical (mob pushed w/ back against the wall, teammates that don’t know how to manage aggro) That doesn’t mean it’s not one of the highest DPS in the game. Burst means spike damage that can’t be sustained…CnD and backstab rotation can be sustained.

B.) I did not know you what you meant when you initially said threat reduction, now I know you meant reducing aggro. That is up to your team. When you stealth you are allowing your teammates to catch up on the aggro table. It doesn’t necessarily reset you on the aggro table like it once did, but it still serves its purpose.
