and yet, some people even get 2 portals which is utterly useless.
why not flag accounts that already have it, redistribute those duplicates to others that have been farming for days without success. (me included)
sad moment in the map, someone gets a portal, 5min later, gets a second…
Maybe you all should do something to keep your mind off it like making lumi or amberite set for idk funsies.
This is what I decided to do, the old 2 birds with one stone routine, farm geodes for the Amberite weapon achieve while I farm for the portal.
what i’ve been doing. Got all the weaponsmith, time to move on to huntsman
I want to agree, but at the same time….warriors jumping off the sides of keeps or towers on top of rams is just so satisfying…
Here we go again…

This is a little rant saying "Really Anet? Really?! Ahem, allow me to explain. Shortly after the announcement of HOT the website allow people to participate in any future closed beta. I gladly signed up hoping I would get a key. Now it seems like they are going the RNG route again. My schedule is limited right now so I only have time to play in short bursts. (Military duties, yay >. <) So what happened to the beta keys?! Rant over.
Its RNG to begin with with the drawing….
How can you say they are going down the RNG path now when throwing your name in with a bunch of others and them RANDOMLY selecting a name isn’t already RNG?
I was thinking of using tomes to level my Revenant, but I think i’ll hold off and actually play them from level 1. Giving me a chance to learn the profession, and find out which traits work and which don’t.
But I do foresee a ton of lvl 80 Revenants from the start.
Most likely the majority of Revs at release at 80 will be those who played in the beta. The smaller percent will be people who just decided to try it. The majority of 80s altogether though will be people who are most comfortable with the class they played the most.
I’d like to know the approx time it goes live, when it ends, etc. Also, if its monsters that usually drop loot, or if fort defense monsters should be ignored.
ya know, questions thats aren’t answered in the FaQ
i stopped reading at “3k ap”
I’m trying to help my friend who just got the game during the sale, but is having issues where the game plays, but he gets frame stuttering.
The only info I was able to get out of him was his video card sadly, and not the motherboard or PSU.
The Graphics card is ATI Radeon 5450 1gb. Looking it up, yeah, really low end. So trying to find a budget replacement, and looking at Radeon 7750. If anything, for a budget range, I’d look at 50-75 bucks, I’ll confer with my friend later in the day, but I feel bad that while getting the game cheap, having to blow the extra money to play it…
If only there was something on these letters to inform players that these are fakes…
hmmm…
This is by far the best interview regarding Heart of Thorns. I also like how he addressed the complaints of the community regarding the necromancer; he was obviously well informed.
Of course, he was well informed. A few days before the interview he asked here in the GW2 Forum what we think he should ask in the interview.
Dont forget, a lot of times companies want a submitted questionaire, and then they pick and choose which questions they will or will not answer. And throwing a fit about it could lead to no interview.
IMO, people are more annoyed at no more important information, like profession changes, specializations, etc, and instead getting background on new races. I’m just as annoyed, but at the same time, they could be trying to save time and money, cause no NDA when people get into the ACTUAL beta (and not server load testing). So all info will be dispersed by players themselves.
(Wildstar player?)
Ha! No. Played the beta and saw the trainwreck coming a mile away, so saved myself time and money never attempting.
No, I believe in seeing player activity and allowing them to spend the money as they see fit to be better, and shows if the game is healthy more accurately. Lets face it, some people forget to unsub to some games, but dont play, or since a sub pays for a month, how much of that time is actually used? Sub for a month, but play for less than a few days? As a dev, I would be more concerned on the activity of an account, because if it drops so much, then chances are, it will just end and I’m out of money.
Because I see it as this:
“I just bought this new game! I wanna play it right away!”
Developer: Oh? you want to play a game you just bought from us? Well, you have to use OUR servers, and that’ll cost you money a month.
“oh, ok, I guess I can do that”
(months pass)
“I don’t really like where the game is going, or the changes you did, but you took my money anyway just so I could play.”
Developer: Don’t worry! We’re listening to your feedback! Just keep playing and keep paying!
“Well….”
(more months)
“Ok, I now hate the game, I want to quit, but I invested so much money with the fees and the initial buy that it makes it hard”
Developers: "Don’t worry we are…
“NO! I’m stopping, taking the loss and leaving!”
—————————————————————————————————————————————
Buy to play model
“Yay! I got the game and can play right away!”
(months pass)
“I really like what they added or did in this patch. To help support, I’ll buy some gems!”
(months pass)
“I didn’t like this patch. Not only will I say on the forums my displeasement, but I will not give money to show it as well!”
with the B2P model, I feel the player has a better way to show if they like where the game is going or not. Subscription is basically forcing you to pay for a game you just fully bought, in which case it causes the feeling of investment, so giving up is harder.
Right now I believe collections are still in the testing waters, at least what we have. There are other collections in the game that some have found, but were mistakenly activated, and are now disabled.
To me, I believe collections are somewhat popular, so they will probably expand upon them moreso in the xpac, so we may see things like outfits coming out. Or armor (wink wink, nudge nudge, tribal). Right now, the only thing I want is the karma infuser, because sitting on over 1mil karma is getting boring.
hmmm…wait a minute…
(pulls away the curtain)
oh…another veiled “GW2 dying thread”
In all honesty, i just want the game to run on more than one core. Probably would help even moreso in gameplay.
There needs to be a couple of different tabs.
Living world should be for living world stuff, to help with achievements, etc.
There should be a map drop down that then expands into each zone. We have it for dungeons and WvW, why not for the PvE maps?
They did say tribal armor would make a comeback. When, they didn’t say. Maybe as a reward track. But at the moment, looks low on the list…
Pretty much what Critical Lag said. Defend forts, do breach then VW. Afterwards, run labyrinth, follow champ train or chest farm. If there’s no commander leading a train on your map, look in the LFG or hop onto another VW map.
I opened 1k coin purses and 418 seed pouches and made about 70g from the silver dropped and vendoring the greens, not counting mats because I don’t sell them. The drops were kind of disappointing overall. I only got a handful of rares and 6 exotics worth 1g each. Not sure about the gold per hour…It took me about a week to accumulate that many champ bags.
almost all he said was correct, but get an alt to level 50-53, open the bags on THAT character, and salvage. The tier 3-4 mats (like linen) go for a good mount of gold on tp.
In my country, we have a saying:
“I don’t like what you said, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.”ANet has a saying:
“You signed an agreement, a contact with us, that you would follow the rules or be suspended or banned and we expect you to keep the agreement you signed and quit trying to say you didn’t or that you did sign the agreement but you didn’t really mean it.”Yes, its always an awesome agreement to sign to play a game, especially with the part of “we can change these rules whenever we want”
I’ve been reading your posts in this thread and I have to say, I think you are exaggerating the situation.
ANet has already said that the occasional F bomb is not enough to get a person in trouble. If that doesn’t, then saying people are afk here and your other examples are not reasonable ones. All ANet is asking is that you don’t use words in map chat that you wouldn’t use in a public setting full of strangers.
You’re right. I am exaggerating and on purpose too, because that is what this thread is based off of, an exaggeration, one that is actually being taken seriously.
Well, then you’re not helping the thread by purposely derailing the discussion into debates with you about speech that you know is not a problem.
So then what IS the problem? Again, we can look back at the OP and see its an exaggeration, it isn’t true and unfounded. All that was needed were a few posts saying “no, its not all the time or constant. If it does happen, report, block, move on.”
Instead, we are now into an 8 page discussion of…something…and basically ignoring what the OP first stated.

Yeah, I agree on educating about the ToS. Especially on their loop hole policy of “if we, anet, find it offensive, you are banned without say”. So, hey! Go about walking on eggshells now!
It’s not about walking on eggshells- a player doesn’t need to walk on eggshells to keep by the rules.
Of course, the loop-hole policy is there, but it would only be acted on if something was deemed offensive. Like you already said, it would be impossible to write down every type of offensive language, so the loop-hole is there to cover every possibility.
You’ve got to remember that Arena net have to consider their own reputation. Being too heavy handed is just as bad for their reputation as ignoring all wrong-doers.
Ignore other players’ opinions of what could be considered offensive or not- try to put yourself in Arena Net’s shoes as to what they would consider as offensive, what they wouldn’t like to continue seeing in their game. For instance, making rude depictions with punctuation/symbols isn’t straight out against the rules in the ToS, but I’m sure that if a player did enough of it, A-net would give them a suspension.
which is why, when you are trying to educate people on the boundaries, there really ARE no boundaries, with such a clause.
In my country, we have a saying:
“I don’t like what you said, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.”ANet has a saying:

“Even when not specified, NC Interactive, Inc. (“NCsoft”) and ArenaNet, Inc. (“ArenaNet”) have the sole right and final judgment of how to interpret and apply these rules and guidelines to any specific circumstance and situation, including proper punishment or exception. "
So, in other words, if somebody at Anet thinks you’re in the wrong, even if it’s not in black and white on the ToS, you can be punished by it.
I can see why its there in the first place, because they can’t possibly list every single offensive thing. When gaile said “excessive swearing is bannable” its only because of this clause they it is deemed as such. saying all the swear words in a line in map chat, not targeting anyone or anything, isn’t said in the ToS as being bannable, but this loop-hole makes it so.
The downside is, whoever is looking at the report, now has that power, and while a majority of people could see something as not offensive, that mod can see it and report it. Then the account holder has to fight to get their account back.
If anything, anet needs to check themselves on being offensive, as I don’t enjoy asura going around calling me a “bookah”.
Some might even find it offensive that a race in a video game are named for members of a current active religion (approximately one billion followers), which is a violation of GW2’s naming convention for players.
Lets not forget “Glaargh” as said by Taimi and scorned by Marjory for “Language”. And should we include Charr in calling others “Meat”?

First, what I want to note is, while saying “bunch of dead” I may not be targeting one person, but I am targeting a group, which, if anything, is causing more ammo against me in a report.
What I was trying to point out is how extreme and far the ToS can go, if anet decides. Heck (oops, that could offend someone too), it decides on the person looking at the report how extreme they want to be, because of the “distress” part. Again, we don’t see how many accounts get reported falsely, banned or suspended, then have to appeal to another staff member with hopefully a different view on the case to get back in.
What I see people defending in this thread to attack all words that are offensive, and not look at the context (again, see my examples of targeting with “this” and “you”). So if someone uses the f word in a chat or saying “gay” or something, not targeting anyone or attacking anyone, then it looks like they can be reported. And if so, whats the point of the filter then?
if anything, lets look back at the OP’s post:
I know I’m going to be viciously attacked for saying this – probably a few private hate mails, but saying it anyways.
The OP is already making themselves a victim, without anything happening to them. So even trying to counter what they say, they are going to feel like a victim no matter what.
GW2 is my FAVORITE game – it’s top notch above any other MMO on the planet, but I’m sick and tired of all the nasty, sexual comments, all of the constant cussing and belittling other players on every map.
People have posted here this doesn’t happen as “constant” as the OP claims. If anything, the only time I usually see yelling or accusations in map chat is when SW fails cause of Red (usually). But then they go on to EVERY MAP. I mean, whoa, EVERY map? Like, that’s a lot of maps when you think about it, especially with the mega server. But its an over exaggeration, and everyone knows it. So why are we believing it?
I shouldn’t have to mute my Say and Map chat. Why should these people who do such things rule chat? There’s no end of the constant vulger language, cruel and hateful speech, and constantly, openly talking about sex.
Again, constant. Its always happening. These people RULE THE CHAT. More exaggeration. Somehow, I don’t think anet would say they have the “friendliest” community if any of this stuff was going on CONSTANTLY. If Riot came out and said that, THEN there would be a huge blow back and laughter. Anet can say it, because what the OP claims ISN’T happening constantly.
moving on to next post:
Yeah, everywhere I go, it seems I see it constantly. Seems like Say and Map chat are owned by the trolls.
How do I set a filter for the bad words without blocking all of Say and Map?
Didn’t even know the filter existed? I’m actually stunned by this. Maybe I’m wrong, but I could’ve sworn its auto set to “on”, and the player has to turn it off. Then we have to look at “bad words”. Do they mean the usual swears or what?
finally
I don’t like hearing vulgarity, and wouldn’t like it if I was in my 40’s, 50’s + or even as young as 10 years old. Just my preference, I guess
That’s fine, you don’t like hearing it. But once more we have to look at what’s vulgar to one person. And that can differ from someone else. So should we ask anet to interview every player and ask what is vulgar to them? Heck, I can consider apple pies vulgar because of a certain movie.
I dont get why this thread blew up like it did, when everything said is unfounded. I mean, CONSTANTLY? So I can log into the iron marshes right now, and it would be dominated by trolls, talking about sex, swearing, and I would be immediately assaulted verbally.
How did this hold water with anyone? And before you say “well, just cause you didn’t see it…” CONSTANTLY ON EVERY MAP.
We aren’t saying it’s all that common. Just occasionally.
The debate here is between those who believe it’s okay to offend because they never are and if you are too bad Vs the follow the rules you agreed to crowd.
I disagree, as following rules with grey areas generally isnt a good idea. Because, again, you don’t even NEED to swear or say anything to cause distress, and I can be reported for just playing the game. I may even not have had a malicious intent behind the action, but someone was hurt by it, and is grounds for reporting.
Here’s what I’m okay with: “Man, this (insert swear) stinks!”
Here’s what’s not okay: “Man, YOU (insert swear) stink!” That is reportable imo. If the first sentence offends you, why isn’t the filter turned on? Oh, but then we have to fall back on words that AREN’T filtered. Then we have to look at words that have more than one definition, and some poor anet employee is going to have to add words from Urban Dictionary. Because its not filtered, someone could see it as a different definition and be offended.
And then we are back to the whole “distress” issue once more. Its such a grey area part because people can get distressed about the littlest things. And if that person who felt “victimized” still sees the other person playing, then they feel cheated that no action was taken against.
Its more like what doesnt offend someone, somewhere?
Its one of the joys of being a minority.
@pickles
I actually report people like that. Literally lfg abuse.
Oh, so nice. It must be fun tossing the innocent and the guilty under the same label each time.
While playing Guild Wars 2, you must respect the rights of others and their rights to play and enjoy the Game. To this end, you may not defraud, harass, threaten, embarrass or cause distress and/or unwanted attention to other players. This includes posting insulting, offensive, or abusive comments about players, repeatedly sending unwanted messages, reporting players maliciously, attacking a player based on race, sexual orientation, religion, heritage, etc. Hate speech is not tolerated
So wait, if a player says something to me, that may not have any ill intent. like lets say, “hey, you need to be moving more often to not die. Standing still is wrong”.
If that makes me feel distressed, I have the right to report him, because he is making me feel bad about my playstyle?
In which case, if I continue to die over and over, and the group gets no where, that person could be feeling distressed, and report me.
In other words, your own personal play style can cause distress to others, giving you the right to report them.
Causing unwanted attention to other players. Oops, I guess i should be reporting all those who say “bunch of dead bodies not running back”. They are drawing unwanted attention to other players, which could embarrass them.
“bunch of afkers here” – that’s a double report there. Reporting the afk’s, and reporting the people who call them out.
Time to walk on eggshells now, even when playing a game.
I didn’t believe this till i logged in.
I had to wipe away a tear.
SAB was an sleeper april fools that became suddenly popular.
Bobblehead mode didn’t please everyone, but it was still funny to see some things with giant heads that really looked out of place.
Airplane joke? Totally missed its mark with me. I find it annoying more than funny. I know i can turn it off with post processing, but at the same time, I’d rather mute my speakers more, as just turning it off that was doesn’t seem like enough. People can say they like it, but compared to the others, it falls flat.
And it being based on a bug from the early days of beta….why did you choose this? I’d rather you have brought back some of the beta events, like the hunger games or the Shatter finale event. Those would’ve been more fun and entertaining than just bringing back an annoying bug.
