People complained about the temporary content which could drive a living world, because they would miss it. They also complained about LS1 items not available cause they missed it, so they were thrown in as a laural vendor item. So what we see now is as “living” as its going to get.

Heck, people complained that the two week opening for each episode of season 2 wasn’t enough time to just log in and get it for free. Yes, they complained that 2 weeks wasnt enough time to log in, click a character, and enter world, to get something free. That was too much effort.

New trait system Good or bad?

Many people are unhappy with them. Basically anet admitted they have limited player choice (my translation, dumbed down the game), but puzzlingly, they claim limiting choice is an improvement because now our fewer choices “matter more”. As a player in a game that expects massive amounts of time investment, I find choice is irreplaceable and that changing the game out from underneath people, causing significant annoyance in having to adjust and regear, is inexcusable.

I find this contrary to any concept of common sense or good game design. I used to think anet was one of the better studios…now I think they are mediocre at best, having just repeated some of the biggest mistakes I have ever seen in the industry.

They basically repeated what Blizzard did with their traits.

Blizzard: “Yes, fewer traits, but now they matter more!”

I know, there has to be balance for pvp, and in this game somewhat pve, and while I’m ok with the new system (its not bad), its just….boring.

Guess I’ll get my fix with PoE in customization…

The fact that the temples have to fall to get anything done is just all around bad design.

Whatever can be gainedfrom those temples should be handed out for defending the temple, not attacking them.

I forget where this phrase is from but…On the Nose-y!

Attacking a temple: Gives you loot you may need for collections, xp, coin, karma and access to the vendor right away.

Defending: Gives you trash loot only, xp, coin, karma, and still access to a vendor….

So yes, anet needs to make defending event rewards = to capturing event rewards. Or, if anything, even make defending slightly harder and give better than attacking, and have more than one temple attacked simultaneously. Then the map has to work together to succeed and perhaps get an even better reward…

KcS.3826 hi, i just saw the video of that guy playing GW2 for the first time and i can tell you that he dont want to play GW2 he was just testing the game for his channel. He like at the begining and then he stop enjoying the game because from the start he didnt really want to go into GW2. Look, he play WOW as his main mmo and he says that GW2 to lvl 10 is boring when you have quests that you can finish in more then one way while in his main game (WOW) till lvl 10 you only have quests like kill this kill that, go there catch this and that… he is clearly a wow fanboy.
He didnt read nothing about GW2 he didnt even read what he was supposed to do to finish that hearth that he so mutch sayd it was GRIND… srly and he play kittening WOW lol… oh and ofc GW2 is pay to win…

ppl who take that guy serious dont really know nothing about gw2… and i’m sure if he really wanted to play GW2 he could at last read what he should do to lvl faster like doing personal story, vistas, poi, and others things … but yeah “killing numerous lynx to obtain their collars” in wow is way more fun right? lol

don’t forget, he was AMAZED at the one guy being a cat person and how cool they looked, when he couldve picked it himself…

To even compare his vid to AJ’s is an insult too…

lets rename this game to zerker wars 1

I think there is a bit of confusion over “Meta” and “Required”.

It seems that the Anti-Zerk crowd, often tends to use the terms interchangeably.
The say things along the lines of: Every posting in the LFG is zerk only. I don’t have zerk, and so I cannot ever do dungeons ever. We need to change the zerk meta because it prevents people from playing the game."

I myself was anti-zerk for quite awhile. I learned to accept it. Granted only one of my 5 characters uses it. but I don’t hate on zerk because “Reasons”. I just don’t typically use it.

So the zerk meta is all about is pumping out as much damage as you can to clear content as fast as you can.
But that doesn’t mean that I MUST use bezerker gear to be able to do anything in the game. Heck I’ve done most everything (except high level fractals) in the game, including dungeons, hundreds of times on my warrior using Valk gear. Never really had a problem. I’ve even soloed dungeons with Valk gear.

Its all a matter of preference and choice. If you don’t like it/want it, don’t use it. It’s that simple. But don’t expect the players to change, and Anet to change it, but for whatever reason you don’t like it.

Finally someone who gets it. I’m sorry this post will be ignored from now on though :’(

I’m having a good time with the zerkers. My mes was killed by a barrage once so i logged onto my non zerk thief and haven’t died to a necro, engi, or miscellaneous since.

These zerk players all do the same moves at the same time. You should be killing them now.

I specifically target necros and engi’s in any large fight and they literally melt to my non zerk damage.

So condi damage? My Necro would just LOVE to see that happen lmao.

mmm yes….I can’t wait when they nerf zerk and condition take over. Then everyone can come to the forums complaining about how everyone is running condition dmg builds and it needs nerf….so then they nerf it and zerk rises once more until people start complain….

Sounds like you want the game to be like Warframe.

Sucks when you don’t have one of the items but pretty awesome when you do; so it’s kind of a hard and bias situation to figure out. Warframe does it pretty much every major event and you either get or miss out on a special weapon you’ll never see again. ;o You can’t sell/trade them though in that game so can’t monopolize it.

Anet did experiment with this idea already with the halloween skins. Introduce a small amount via random chance with that raffle. I’m not sure of the success of it (too many given out, or too few, anet has the numbers not us.) But I wouldn’t mind a similar event for other stuff. Thus, still exclusive in most sense, and can help with tp prices.

I'd call this a win.

While its a welcome change, the only issue they haven’t changed is the one that really irks me.

Every time an expansion for guild wars 2 comes out, existing players will be forced to re-buy every previous title to obtain the new one. This is extremely dubious ground for me. Free to play mmos aren’t that special anymore, large content updates on free mmos aren’t that uncommon either. The massive price tag for Anet’s self admitted small zone is precarious at best.

Is $50 for every undersized zone addition a fair deal? As I can afford it, I’ll say yes. If every consecutive expansion costs $5 or $10 more then the last (for the all inclusive base bundle) I’d say not – and this wont be discernible till the next expansion.

Given this extremely exorbitant sales model, one better hope there are 3 years of living story between each expansion – because if they released one of these small sized expansions every year (with a 4 month content drought before each release) you’d be better off with a different subscription model – on a different mmo.

Anet’s current offering? I’ll buy into it. But seeing as they marketed this expansion as a small zone with large underlying system reworks, I’ll expect future expansions without the large underlying system reworks to have a larger zone. If they continue to flout small zones (with the as of yet unexplained “replay-ability” factor) I’ll move onto the virtual reality mmos which will have undoubtedly been developed by then.

You aren’t rebuying, its given as a bonus.

So it comes down to this: “Do I want to pluck down $50 (for minimum) now and play, or take a break for a few years and pluck down $50 for the next xpac, and get this current one for free?” Basically anet is leaving the door open to “leaving for awhile? Come back next expansion and get previous stuff for free!”

which you know what? Is fine. Gives more power to you and saves you money. How many of those 3 mill people blizz loss from the WoD expansion probably had to buy the previous expansion(s) just to try WoD and got burned? So i’m ok with this model. If an xpac is doing stuff I hate, I can skip it without real consequence to myself. Come back next xpac and get previous at no charge.

I'd call this a win.

Its a win now, and to cover their butts later.

Basically, “oops, we werent expecting this reaction, give them the character slot.”
Yay win! I’m happy with this change even!

final paragraph: “We are going to give away previous needed content for free to new players from now on when a new xpac comes out. This is a heads up so you can’t yell at us for doing this again.”

aka: You get a free character slot now, but the future looks doubtful.

Boo hoo its easier for everyone else to get into the game wahhh
You got a reward for being a “veteran player”. Leave it at that.

uhh…ok? I first said I’m happy with this added change of JUST getting a character slot? Okay? HAPPY. I do not care if a new player gets the previous stuff for free. I DON’T. They can have it!

What I care about is equal treatment. They give new players the previous stuff for free, fine, give the vets something free too. Keep it at a character slot. Fine by me.

I'd call this a win.

+1 Great Post.
As a member since early GW1, I just feel that if Anet don’t not want to send me even a small perk as a thank you for spending (more than I am willing to admit to) for continuing, then I must really evaluate how much they really want me.
$10 discount from full package (upgrade price), and a character slot is not asking too much

Again, most people would’ve been happy with a character slot ($10). If the base game is determined to be worth $10 now, then why not give existing owners a free character? 10 = 10. Sounds fair to me. Why didn’t anyone in marketing think of this?

Welcome to the internet, where everyone is “entitled” if they disagree with you and everyone is mad about something. “Entitled” is the buzz word to use, because it almost always illicit a reaction.

The thing that most MMO players need to learn early on, and usually fail to, is a LOT of people are playing the game with them. Most people say “yea yea, I know that. We all want different things”, but then I still see posts like this.

Think about it: if there are 500,000 active players right now (which is a conservative estimate based on how many boxed copies were sold) and only 0.1% of the playerbase got mad about something and posted about it on forums, that’s 500 people on forums kittening. For the forums, that is a LOT of people posting negatively, most of them likely making multiple posts each.

People throw around the terms “kittenstorm” and “pandemic” when, in actuality, it’s likely not even close. I have, in my 20 years of MMO playing, seen 1 true “kittenstorm”, and that was Blizzard’s WoW forums when they announced Real ID. That is the one and only true explosion of customer rage that I’ve seen on an MMO forum. Everything else? Just another day for an MMO.

EDIT: The second biggest rage I’ve seen was actually on these forums, back when Ascended gear released. Nowhere near the explosion that Real ID caused, but much larger than anything else I’ve witnessed.

You forgot the gem exchange debacle….

It seems like most people just wanted a character slot included with the expansion so they could play the new class.

A bit of research might have solved this problem before the package pricing was made available.

Of course the possibility would still exist that many would still complain about the pricing of those packages regardless of a character slot included with the base expansion.

I don’t think it is unreasonable for the players to want a free character slot included in the base package. A character slot is not something physical that needs to be manufactured. It would have been a simple good will gesture for everyone, Veteran players and new players to enjoy, with only one side completely understanding the value of that gesture right now.

Pretty much….yeah…If the core game is devalued now to $10, then why didn’t it cross their minds to gives vet a $10 character slot? I mean, duh? Now they have this whole debacle going on because no one thought of that.

Would people still complain? Course some would. But it wouldn’t be to this degree. And you would have more people arguing against them that it IS a fair deal ($10 and $10).

Reason why people are mad: Fairness.

Bought the game on release. Don’t mind the $50 price tag. Would like it if veteran accounts got a bonus character slot with xpack.

Yep, this would be the fair thing to do.

As to whether there’s enough content to justify $50 is another thing, IMO it’s a pretty kitten lightweight expac for $50… 1 new class and 1 new zone for $50? Doesn’t seem like good value to me.

And in all honesty, something like this would’ve preventive the fiasco in the first place (other than PR not wording correctly either).

People use the business model of attracting new people with giving away free stuff. Guess what can happen? What if that free stuff still doesn’t make them a constant customer? You just threw away money. That’s a loss. Not to mention, if you don’t have a program in to reward constant customer’s, you just ticked them off too, in which case there goes MORE money. This is why places have store cards or something to get them points towards “free” stuff. People will then stop there and shop more because the items they want are there, and shopping there can get them discounts. Working in a pharmacy grocery store, I can’t tell you how many times I laughed when a promotion for “bring a new script, get a $25 gift card” came about. We see that person once for the card, then never again. Loss money.

Heck, I get it. Once so many xpacs come out, its too expensive. That’s when its up to the company to bundle it together in one package for a set price. Get to four expansions? Bundle the first three for $30 total. Or $25, or whatever. I’m not against Anet making money. I’m just not liking how its treating its community.

This is what blows my mind is that they DID THIS ALREADY. Why not do it again for people who played from launch? What am I talking about? About the Hall of Monuments stuff! That is a PERFECT EXAMPLE of rewarding veteran players!

“Hey, you stuck with us during our first game, played it, did achieves, etc. Here’s some free stuff when you buy GW2”. New players didn’t throw a fit over that did they (at least i don’t remember any)? A GW1 vets loved it! Not to mention, guess what happened with some of the new players? “Oh, i get cool stuff for playing gw1? I’ll check it out!” Boom. Sales. Not alot, but still sales.

I mean, my god. Now thinking about this, you would probably see NO complaints if something like that was extended into gw2. “A new section of the hall of monuments has opened up for those who purchased the Original game, allowing more free stuff for completing certain achievements”. Sure, the new players may not get all the acheives necessary because of missed content, but they got a free game. Vets get free cosmetic gear, pets, etc for their time.

Are all of the games players so crude?

You know, the first person to start throwing insults in an argument means they’re losing. If you have actually nothing to counter with, then accept your loss and move on.

It’s not a win or lose thing. I feel as though i have won because spending 50 dollars for new content in a game i have not had to pay a single dime for after purchase is sufficiant for me. All ofnyour arguments have been invalid and just morenofnthat wanting free stuff mentality. People like you are the problem with this world.

If i’m the problem with this world, then the world is really getting nitpicky on who causes the problems.

You know, what, your right. People who get stuff for free shouldn’t. Like free content. People should just get what comes in the box for $50, and any new content that comes out later, pay for. What? You want it free? You entitled people! Get out of that free stuff mentality!

Yes it is valid because most mmos that do not require a subscription are pay to win or you cant access a lot of content or are limted to how much gold you can have. In this gsme you can get max level all the end game gear and go anywhere you want all for just the vase price of the game.

pay to win =/= subscription.

All I see are people complainig about not getting gems or chracter slits for buying the expansion. You already do not have to pay a subscription fee. I have never seen a community of players whine about not getting free stuff added to a game so much. Maybe it is the non subscription that has created this mentality but arenanet does not owe you guys anything but a game that you have bought to play. Thats it period.

Almost all mmos today dont require a sub fee, because people hate it. mmos that tried to go with a subfee out of the gate quickly realized this and dropped it, after their numbers weren’t doing so well.

So trying to use this in an argument is pointless, because subfees are on their way out anyway.

So the longer you have played, the worse deal you get? Sounds about right along the lines with how cell phone /cable satellite companies treat their old customers, new customers always get the best deals. Only problem is, it’s not like you can leave gw2 and then come back. xD This is a news worthy debacle.

Yeah man. kitten , I mean, forget all about those LS episodes and other free kitten they did during the game’s 3 year lifespan that new players will NEVER experience right (unless they pay 200+ gems and even then, it’s not complete).

50$ is not much when you look at SUB fee game…..a 15$/month game=180$ a year….this game have been out for what,2-3 years?we just bought the core game and that it. buy to play game need to make $ somewhere and that why they sell expension higther. some game like ff14,wow might sell expension way cheaper but they have a sub fee so you cant compare the price with those sub game

yes they also make money from gems sell but that free to the player to buy them….if you never bought any gems, the game end up really cheap.

between we dont pay for the core game twice like some think……the expension itself is 50$ but if you dont have the core game, you have it for free, its a bonus for new comer.

I think you just named the only two mainstream MMOs to have a sub fee now. Everything else either went B2P or F2P, or are going in the future. And no, having a sub option doesnt mean its a sub game. People can still play without a sub.

And fine, lets say the $50 bucks is just in its pricing, and the core game is just there to be free to new players. That’s great. What do vets get? Nothing.

And if people say “oh, well you got special in game items”, then you are saying that this $50 is paying for those items now. So then I technically bought something I may not have wanted. And heck, if that means by deleting them or removing them from my account to lower the price, have at it!

You could say $50 is justified for new players, cause core game included. But for a vet, it isn’t. And that’s where Anet goofed. They only thought about getting new players, and not about their current. If they had just given current players something free, a character slot, mini pet, maybe a few gems, some other ingame item to show you are a vet, something, everyone wouldn’t be so ticked.

After launch it was fun, but then say it was never fun to begin with?

Also, you don’t “just have heart quests” you have events. Many many many that are soloable. If you choose to ignore ways to get xp and level, and make the leveling longer, that’s YOUR problem.

You can’t walk anywhere in this game without getting xp, litterally. Just walking and exploring gives xp….

This week's special surprise

What I fear is that it is: “Yay! Closed Beta next week.” And nothing more.

Ditto.

I doubt they are gonna have a closed beta before releasing all the professon specializations. They said no NDA (could change though), so unless they arent in the game yet, those not revealed would be revealed very quickly

Why does Anet assume only nordics have beer?

There’s a pretty decently large tavern/bar/thing in the Charr home instance, and there’s another in the Grove.

The only race that I don’t think has a ‘bar’ in it’s city is Rata Sum, and well… I can’t really see Asura’ drinking alcohol quite like the other races probably do.

Probably because its been said a drunk asura will be the cause of the Golem uprising.

So drunk science is banned.

I’m scared

not of the scammers, but for the community. It seems every day one of these posts needs to be made, to post the same thing of showing a false in game mail, with the yellow words at the bottom saying its not from anet.

Does this need to be posted daily? Do the forums always have to have at least ONE thread of something like this posted on a daily basis?

Dragonhunter revealed... meh

I think the name really doesnt work because well, when its THAT specific, it makes no sense.
Person: “what are you again?”
DragonHunter: “I’m a dragon hunter.”
Person: “Oh, so all your spells and abilities are specifically made to hunt dragons?”
DH: “No, they effect other creatures and foes just as equally!”
Person: “Then why dragon hunter….?”

I’m hoping since this is still beta, the name can be changed (hopefully).
And if Warriors get “Dragon Slayer”, i’m changing my warriors name to Natsu Dragoneel

Will we receive gear refunds with HoT?

OP, can I have your sources that everything right now is indeed CONFIRMED? I mean, holy crap! If nothing is changing now, then HoT must be right around the corner! I feel sorry for the professions that don’t have trait lines done, or just stuff ported over and nothing changed to them yet. Or how now apparently with everything set in stone, engies are gonna litterally carry around a mortar for their new ability.

What has Anet done?!

Yes I'm sure

lol this reminds me of warning pop ups before missions in GW1. Are you sure? Are you sure you’re sure? You’re positive? Ok then….

Annoying then, mildly entertaining now (to think about).

The problem I see with having some sort of “shut off” for these messages is you just know there is going to be someone that shuts it off “unintentionally”. Then accidentally salvage something that they didn’t want to / intend to but they didn’t get their silly pop up get out of jail free confirmation to warn them. Then they are going to come on here and complain.

No grind philosophy

Just popping in to say I don’t mind the grind really. So long as it’s for marginal stat increase (ascended gear) or cosmetics, yeah ’s fine by me.

What I don’t like is excessive RNG. I would rather grind for something I know will, for example take me 20 hours to complete, rather than something random that’ll take an average of 15 hours, but might also take 50 hours if you’re unlucky. When effort does not match reward, things be unfair.
Looking at you precursors.

Yeah this has always kittened me off, and it’s why I liked Guild Wars more than Guild Wars 2. At least in Guild Wars, you had a really good chance of getting Dhuum’s Scythe if you ran UWSC for 4-6 months. Speedrun dungeons, WvW, PvP or even MF gambling for 4-6 months in this game…gives you no good chance at anything, really. It’s a crying shame that you can’t work for your rewards.

Part of the reason I went casual is I spent over a year speedrunning dungeons just to get Dusk to no avail. Money to buy Dusk was acquired and I still never saw a precursor. I spent a year trying. That just seems at a certain point to be unethical in the way they designed RNG. Hell, I still don’t have Sunrise to go with it because I can’t be bothered to buy Dawn or farm against the treadmill anymore. Much like the precursor hunt, though, if there were some sort of way for me to get a reward for my effort rather than banging my head against the wall praying to RNGesus, I will enjoy this game a lot more.

I’m thankful they’re finally coming to grips with replacing RNG with provisional grind.

This is a little strange statement. "Part of the reason I went casual is I spent over a year speedrunning dungeons just to get Dusk to no avail. Money to buy Dusk was acquired and I still never saw a precursor. ".

So if you love grind so much, what was then the problem? You grinded the gold? And the fact that it’s not possible to work directly towards the item you want (other then the gold-grind) is what I talk about all the time. These items for example do indeed drop but with such a extreme low drop-rate that you can’t work towards them anymore leaving grind (for gold) as the only real viable option to get them.

So what you say you dislike results in what you say you like. Reasonable drop-rates lets you also work towards an item. Just as putting items behind specific content does like chest, or putting them behind challenging content or in fun crafts. That are the types of things I am asking for. But would decrease the grind.

You say you are happy with more grind because that allows you to work towards something.. yes in the same was as it already does ‘grind gold, grind gold’ but at the same time you say you like the ‘change to grind’ because you dislike the current RNG system… that results in grind.

So what is it? You liked it that you had to grind gold for your legendary and want more of that? Or you dislike the grind and want less of it???

I like this, and why I find this thread hilarious.

“This grind suxorz cause the item I want didnt drop, so instead I have to use the GOLD I got from the grinding to just BUY it. Ugh…”

Do older people play this game?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

The oldest people I know playing are over 70. The youngest I’ve met was 7. (Something to keep in mind the next time you see a complaint about ANet suspending people for poor word choices.)

I’ll keep that in mind with a game rated for Teens…

I pvp every day to preserve my youth!
