Great info, thank you Teapot.
As an ele I personally prefer the protection boon over toughness for non-bunker builds. I can maintain 70-100% protection uptime (depending on build) while still having a 67% crit rate
And THAT…is just ridiculous…btw. You effectively have better protection than a tank, higher crit than a thief, and (im assuming) neigh infinite survivability by way of water.
Should have rolled an ele…good lord.

The game is fun to log on and smash some faces in sPvP but bad balance kills any possibility of competitive fun, especially for people who pug, which is most players.
competitive puggin? oxymoron much
i can’t say since we only play at around peak times sry
been playing paid tourneys on eu for 3 days now we had 0 issues with waiting queues as of yet
we didnt find something in <10min at one point but it was 3pm so it was to be expected not very much was going on
You can’t be sure that it won’t be some kind of e-sport at some point in time.
What you can be sure of tho is that it will most definetely never be a successfull e-sport.
TL;DR There is already a casual league. It’s called free tournaments, which will become casual the second paid tournaments are out there.
problem is that there is still no challenge whatsoever for top teams besides queuing up at the same time and try to be lucky and get in the same tournament as the others
Yeah it’s not like you would have to test stuff before you announced it to go live for weeks. Who could knew that anything could went wrong when all the other pvp features have been running so flawlessly since release.
when caltrops continously procs attacks and thief gets stunned bc of aura it’s a bug
when caltrops continously procs attacks and thief gets free heals from signet of malice … everything’s fine guys!
not a single profession is actually hard to play
The fact that you can’t 2 v 1 people is a good thing. It shows that the game is balanced.
no it doesn’t, at all
edit: funny how all they’ve done to thief is reduce the big bad backstab numbers yet left their damage completely unchanged for the most part (combo is doing what? 5% dmg less now … big deal)
but at least that shows that ANet hasn’t completely given into the whine
warriors needed more love than just tremor buff … imo still gonna be unviable in tpvp
and ele’s meh, i’m really disappointed that ANet has gone this route … should’ve just nerfed the other kittening down-states instead of buffing the only one that isn’t completely annoying
might even trigger a 2 ele metagame now on legacy&khylo but i’m not completely sure how the new ele’s down state will fit into team fights
(edited by Pray.9751)
oh it’s gonna be alright, jon is already starting to write a new blogpost
it will be posted when it’s ready! stay tuned guyz

I don’t agree, GW2 is very close to E-sport, is fun and all it needs are:
1. Remove raid on the capricorn.
2. Add real RATING based on win/loss as a team and add rated matchmaking system.
3. Make sPvP hot jon from 8v8 to 5v5 so people actually experience the real sPvP instead of zergfest.
look at the viewer count on twitch & say that again
the whole thing is actually pretty easy, the teams/players go where the money is
that means paid competitions & high viewership on streaming sites
now the thing is you can not even as much as create a custom game in GW2, so GW2 is actually farther from being an e-sport than pokemon stadium
literally the online thing that is e-sport about GW2 is that it’s an online game. period.
Lol tpvp people are dropping thiefs for warriors.
PW nerf got them too much. My warrior can do 20k+ damage in 1 100b. Its awesome using 100b on people trying to raise someone :O
actually warriors are useless and underpowered in the current meta but buffing them would make all the baddies cry even more
Talking about the meta not fully developing and then mentioning necros in the same sentence.
Sorry, bringing a necro over a guardian in order to counter (if it lands btw, 50% chance it fails) one single annoying ability does not outweigh the fact that a necro is just a useless class.
guess you aren’t up to date
necro is played by most teams in forest & guild now
thief has 2 viable specs in competitive pvp (backstab & conditions) both fulfill the role of a roamer whereas the former is better at resolving things asap whereas condition thief is extremely strong in 1v1’s & 2v2’s but lacks burst potential in larger/outmatched fights
so with 2 completely different yet viable specs that is already more than pretty much any other profession
lets just see…
ele 1
warrior 0
ranger 0
mesmer 2-3
engineer 2
guardian 1
necro 1-2
vista x86 … because that really matters!
of course i know that arenanet usually replies with “it’s not our fault” and the isp in question just tells me that “nothing is wrong on their end” but in the end something between the isp and YOUR servers is botched up and on a regular basis
i basically only play tpvp so i can only talk about the lag issues i’m experiencing here
quite often (about 4 out of 7 days with more frequency on the weekends) some specific servers for only a map have insane package losses, to a point where latency goes up to 500ms+ and i get constantly disconnected and in the end can’t play at all
so what happens is that e.g. the servers for forest & guild are completely fine and as we go into khylo kitten hits the fan and it’s a 4v5 for my team
this is not limited to a one time experience, this specific map (which changes from day to day) will continue to lag for multiple tournaments
the “lag map” doesn’t change at all on a single day so i assume that same maps get hosted on the same server farms and it just changes when you reboot the server and the server farm in question that hosts the “lag map” somehow just has incredibly bad connection to swisscom for some reason
so if anyone from ArenaNet would be so kind as to try to contact swisscom and tell them which connection they’re supposed to fix or in general try to resolve the issue i’d be more than greatful because first of all swisscom doesn’t give a kitten when i call them (i tried) and second my team is getting kitten because we scrim against other teams and then we get an autoloss as i just happen to have a “lag khylo day” as it just happened
best regards pray
it’s also quite broken because arenanet did not manage to make use of non-integer values when dealing with stuns & dazes
division of labor
/thread
worked in rl, works in gw2.
teams with players fitting their role perfectly are outperforming those who just ramp up “jack of all trades” builts all day everyday
and yes there’s a lot of pigeonholing going on, especially on khylo
but since the game is at least one year away from an e-sport state, let’s not worry
Have they actually said they’re making it? Sorry haven’t been keeping up with this game lately.
They haven’t even mentioned arenas as of yet so as there are about 10 things ANet thinks about starting to maybe be as far as to come to the conlusion that it might be in the best interest of all to slowly grow a sense of a general idea to actually do something…
Arenas will not hit this game in 2012. Or 2013.
Maybe this change to downed state so it deals more damage was to further discourage people from running glass cannons.
@Gohlar, that’s a pretty limited viewpoint
why is that?
i crit someone for 4,5k on my thief in downstate, i’m just fine with glasgun ty
I like that they can show a little bit of “every man” style with stuff like “less QQ more pew pew”. Frankly, all the professionalism, bureaucracy, and political correction is out of hand in society. When I call up customer support, I don’t want someone feeding me a line of “professional BS”. I want someone who I can relate to. I personally feel more reassured by that than a line of professionally created word-vomit.
Still, the blog didn’t exactly wow us with new information. Hopefully the next one won’t take nearly a month to produce, and will have some substance.
you’re right! it’s great to see a blog post on a linguistic level of a 12yr old that is devoid of any new information whatsoever AND takes over 3 weeks to get out with the laughable subterfuge of it having to be translated
if i were to tell my prof i’d just need another few days for “editing and translating and stuff” i’d get a mark 0 and that’s about it
you write your papers in LateX, not a hard thing to do but tedious at times and if you honestly try to tell us that editing a blog post is actually something hard to do you’re out of your mind
same with translation, first of all 99% of the people who play this game are fluent in english and translation a what 1 page (if that) blog post doesn’t even take as much as an hour
again it’s just excuses coming out of you
or you just press escape instead of switching to a weapon set you don’t want to switch to
and the cd on interrupt is 4sec not 3
(eu servers, btw)
i’ll translate into proper english:
This is neither a whine nor a “srs” feedback thread.
We’re a tiny group of dedicated pvp’ers looking for a challenge in GW2. We are tired of facing unorganized teams as it deteriorates our gameplay more than it does actually help us play better. Unfortunately ANet has not kept it’s promise as of yet to provide an e-sport-esque environment where we as a team can face equal or more importantly better teams to grow and get better at the game.
So let’s not wait another half year until ANet brings us a functioning ranking system, let’s just do it.
Today we sneaked into a stream to “snipe” a good team and we had two incredibly benefitting and entertaining encounters.
Submitting with multiple “competitive” teams at the same time obviously nets the best chance of generating a high quality tournament and everyone will benefit from it. Teams that loose know where they should improve, teams that win know what tactics/builds work well.
We’re playing nearly every day from about 4:00pm to 10:00pm (CET) at least.
So if you’re an EU-team looking for a challenge, want to give us a mad beating or just want to enjoy games that are beyond spawn-camping randoms, contact us and we can try to setup some games.
Best regards, Pray from [JM].

everything you said have been confirmed already and they said they are working on it… so PLEASE, stop making new topics about the same things over and over… only exception are another game modes i think, nothing said about them…
you sir, are totally wrong
they have actually neither confirmed nor announced anything of that at best a reply was “we think about it” which is pretty much worthless
A Game that advertises itself as an e-sport pvp MMO will get held to a higher standart than the usual “AAA-mmo – we ignore all pvp besides a puny battleground”.
Sadly this is exactly what GW2 is. There is not a single thing that is competitive about GW2’s pvp and even less so e-sport (“hurr youtubers we’ll all sue you!”, "metagame has to develop without matchmaking!).
Hell the game had more pvp features in the beta than it has now (paid tournaments) and shortly after release free tournament chests stopped working for over a week and then time and time again for shorter periods. And what are the pvp devs doing? We don’t know! They simply refuse to communicate at all, besides closing threads and deleting posts that is.
Now it’s been over two weeks for a thing is simple as “hey this is what will be coming soon”. It’s sardonacilly sad.
So would this be ok for the usual pve-mmo? No. And they all fell on their faces releasing an unfinished product, because people just leave and no they won’t magically come back once you fixed your game.
Is this state ok for a mmo advertising especially to the pvp crowd? No, it’s shameful.
Oh so GW2 hasn’t lost players? Let’s look at twitch’s viewer count for GW2 – one of the best indicators of how well an e-sport is doing. Oh it’s not even on the first site, of there it is 289 at the bottom part of the second load of games!
Oh well thats less than Pokemon Colosseum, half as much as DayZ and Darksouls and let’s not even begin to talk about the actual e-sport games who range into the 20k’s. Yeah people are definately hyped for gw2’s amazing pvp content!
there are severe connection issues with swisscom and whereever arenanet has parked their servers, same issue here, arenanet probably does not care very much
because of publishers, thanks NCSoft & Activision
swisscom not working, again
really sad to see how arenanet is not able to find permanent solutions for those issues
and same as the game “when it’s ready” means half done
i think the only reason they’re delaying the blog post now is because people will get really mad when they read all the “soons” and “when it’s readys”
Agree, everyone who signs up for tournament knows whats comming he can be expected to be ready when an invite comes, 5min is way too much especially considering the fact that if people are given the choice they will abuse it and not come in and ready up.
don’t worry jon just has to put punctuation into the blog post and bam everythings good… just a matter of weeks to finalize the blog post now
if you look at the stream numbers of gw2 on twitch you know how bad things are
then you underestimate what ai’s today are possible to do, it might end up being a considerable effort tho with minimal return
• Legacy of the Foefire: Fixed an exploit that was allowing players to teleport past one of the gates.
Don’t worry guys!
it’s actually still in we tried it just a few hours ago …
here’s whats going to be in the blog:
We’ll do this and that and all of this soon, and then some things later and we have even thought about stuff to do in the next year! Aren’t we great? It’s just a matter of months now.
Downed state in small scale spvp makes sense. It does add more dynamics to the game and another element to think of, and it’s why a lot of people, especailly in tournaments, and making builds in line with stomping/rezzing etc.
…I do see them balancing downed state as I mentioned in a lot of threads. They already changed the mesmers from bw1 + 2, and I forsee potentially more changes, but for spvp, mainly tournament play, it adds more skill and team play to the match.
It does add another layer to the gameplay but imo not a good one. Down state got progressingly more important with the development in the game as opposed to weakened. It is currently at a state where 7/8 classes can interrupt a finisher, making it possible rezz every single time if you just try to non-stab-stomp.
On another note the downstate dps is ridiculous, i do not approve at all of mesmer’s 3 critting for 5k and warriors throwing 1k dps stones in your face etc., not to mention that a balance of survivability/dps/utility in the actual downstate between the professions is pretty much non-existent.
What down state should’ve been in my opinion, is the all-access ability to an in-combat rezz, that requires an active involvement of the downed players team to stop stomps rather than the downed player being able to circumvent the majority of stomps itself.
What the down state has come to is an easy access to a quick non-cooldown in-combat rezz that requires both teams to save the majority of their cooldowns to when someone is actually downed rather than downing someone in the first place.
In my opinion there is currently far too much emphasis on the downed fights and 3v3’s easily end up being a rezz fest because it is so much easier to rezz someone than to stomp them which should imo be actually the other way around.
I’d love to see rezz-speed decreased, stomp speed increased and every single 2 ability in down state taken out of the game. No it does not make sense that you can “cheat” death immediately after being downed, yes it is okay that you just die after being downed because it should be your team that makes an effort to ressurect you not you bringing the interrupt right to the table.
(edited by Pray.9751)
Why on earth would they lie? You fail to deliver a reason (or apply common sense).
If we had ranked already, the kittening would go through the roof. It’s perfectly legit to watch the meta for a while first and handle the most glaring issues.
Why would they lie? Isn’t that blatantly obvious? They promised features which in return made them sell more copies that are simply not there. Not even close to being here most probably.
The reason that “we want to let the meta develop” is most probably a lie because the argument itself is so insanely stupid that no one would think it can even be meant seriously.
Fact is that there simply is no meta game to be developed without ranked games or private games. How do you think Jeadong would train for SC1 when all he was possible to fight were randoms, he wouldn’t. He would be facing people so insanely far below his skill level that his gameplay would actually deteriorate and stagnate as opposed to improve which is the exact same thing that happens now.
Because your team is facing pugs/noobs the majority of the time it’s virtually impossible to determine the effectiveness of builts and gameplay gets generally sloppy. You don’t need to call incoming / deaths / downs etc. when you win 500-50 anyway so you eventually just stop doing it. Then you face a decent group and suddenly you loose to them for the first time because everyone is just in a brain afk state.
Because MOBA’s have no PvE or WvW and additional features take TIME TO CODE.
Stop crying and just wait, its coming.
arenanet had about what 5 years more to code all that than the development of dota2?
everyone talkes about how complicated yadayada time consuming blabla but that is simply not the case when you have a game in development for nearly a decade
most of the features aside from spectator mode are incredibly easy to implement up to a point where it is actually not a matter of time rather than willingness
Assume a nominal amount of lag, say 200ms. Assume further the thief is stealthed, so you don’t realize it’s a thief until he’s already attacking, give that another 0.5s. Now you have about 1 second to react before you’re dead.
It doesn’t matter if the thief loses all endurance if the fight is over.
in a prealarmed state the human body will react much faster than the way you described
also 200ms? you should change your connection, i would consider anything far above 50ms unplayable and mmo’s are very humane with ping
moba’s are already at 50ms basically unplayable
so all in all when you know something is in stealth, see a thief running towards you or are in a fight where you should be ready to get out of kitten any second a decent player will probably react as fast as <100ms to a thief trying to pistol whip him
and yes if your stunbreak is on cooldown / your out of endurance etc pp you’re screwed, that’s just the way it is, but that’s the same thing as if an ele or warrior were charging you (admittedly not as fast)
not playing with berserker’s amulet as non-thief is said to help aswell and so does not playing 8v8 where you basically get intokitten situations due to zerging 24/7
edit: yes the remark about stealth is right, it takes somewhat 500ms to be fully revealed from stealth which is outrightkitten and a huge annoyance
you can target your enemy immediately tho
Great: Thief, Guardian, Ranger, Mesmer
Okay: Engineer, Necromancer
Mediocre: Warrior, Ele
well rank 20 gives 12slot and rank 30 gives you 15 slot already so probably rank 50ish will get your 20’s
