Condition is better PvE especially solo because the moves just do more damage over time, very good for soloing if that’s what you do. Anything against players however and I recommend a crit based build. Conditions get cleansed mad fast by good players and you wont be doing a lot of damage. The only class I can think of that’s easier to beat with a condition build s a warrior due to their seeming lack of condition cleanse. A crit build also allows you to take advantage of traits and sigils that proc on crits.
Bottom line I say go crit based because it’s more versatile. That said I also think every ele should have one set of healing/bunker spec gear and I love shamans gear for that. Some prefer clerics and that’s cool too. If you go crit based knights seems the way to go.

Also you can get away with 30% or so in a crit build because you’ll have perma fury anyways bringing you to 50%

So we all agree our elites are mediocre right? Yes. We do. But that can change. What I propose here is a new elite skill to put us on par with all other classes. Avatar State.
Avatar State would be like a glyph, but not really because it would use all of your elements at once(Making it nothing like a glyph).
Overview.
Cooldown: None.Elementalists don’t need those.
Duration:5 minutes
Gain all auras
Gain All Boons(Stability lost if deactivated)
New boon: Max fury: 300% crit chance. Crit multiple times per hit
Invunurable
Replaces skill bar with a bunch of awesome kitten.

When activated becomes [Avatars Judgment]
:Remove skill bar of all Elementalist within 3000 range.Forever. And thieves. kitten those guys.

Its what we all wanted when we picked ele. Make it happen A Net.

Have to disagree with Bond. The staff healing skills by themselves are negligible, but combined with water evasive arcana and a timed eruption you can get multiple aoe heals in one area. This will make an eruption>geyser>water roll>water roll combo heal for 5000+. And on a 15 second cooldown thats not bad. But you really cant just heal like a cleric or whatever but rather play full support with cc and buffs dealing damage at the same time. The same build you use for healing can be used to achieve mad might stacks on all of your allies within close proximity. That said, don’t bother with it until your an 80. Healing is kitten at lower levels. Don’t know why.

Lose the 10 points in earth and get Evasive Arcana. I also recommend you change to a cantrip build and use the associated traits in water but keep cleansing water. Cantrips will save your kitten on many occasions. Dwayna runes will be better for straight healing because the added regeneration will give you another condition removal(over water runes) but I would consider water/monk/??? for 30% added boon duration. I have fire as a third for mad might stacks(easy to maintain 25 stacks with evasive arcana)

As for gear with +healing I roll shaman so I can deal damage and heal simultaneously. But there are some bad things that come with condition builds so clerics might be better for you,that’s all preference really. Also if you do want shaman or a more balanced build you might consider carrion accessories for added damage but that much customization is def preference.

For a damage build I suggest you ignore the berserker gear everyone seems to lean towards and go rampager for pure damage and rabid/carrion for some balance. seriously don’t get why people would ignore condition damage in a build for a class that uses conditions for a good half of their attacks.

I play WvW mostly and this build is pretty good for it. Also good for dungeons and not bad for PvP bunker builds. Shaman is better in PvP actually because it’s tough over vit meaning healing is worth more. Anyways, hope that helps.

So here we are again. We tried to have this thread before once. It went ok and we had a dev reply. That was cool. But as the meta has changed I thought we’d have another go.

With that said, as per the title, we all give one suggestion to improve the ele while keeping it balanced. Emphasis on ONE. Not “WELL THERES SO MUCH WRONG WE CANT PICK JUST ONE!”. One. That said, i’m also gonna put a list of silly or beaten to death ideas below. It may limit discussion ,so eh, but last time we had the same three things said >34194991 times.

TL;DR We give ONLY ONE idea to improve the ele while maintaining balance with the exception of these things.
[Weapon swap: Its a bad idea and will never happen
Redo Traits: Known by everyone and need not be said.
Better Elites: Same as above. Ideas for elites however might be cool.
“I wan glass cannon ele”: Also unlikely.] Offering damage buffs to specific skills may be cool however, but if its said too much please refrain from repeating it.
Same goes for everything actually. If someone has an idea you like feel free to say so.

Anyways, I’ll start. Lower casting times in general. Staff ele relies on combos for dmg output and this would make it easier to chain moves. It would also make moves more likely to hit(I’m looking at you shockwave) Or make it matter less if they miss(eruption,ice spike,lightning surge)

Why we getting turned down for dungeons!?

Obviously the guys a fool. Dungeons are on very few occasions reliant on burst damage and are more reliant on good survive-ability and support. I run shaman gear and 30 points in healing and can heal most people to at least 3/4 health if not full in a short burst without healing rain so obviously this guy is ignorant on both how dungeons work and how the ele is useful in them.

The title says it all. I’m sick of the top tier " We aren’t winning lets not try." spirit. So which server has the most fighting spirit. Considering Kaineng based on the spirit I’ve seen from their players here. i also like dungeon groups so if the server is good for that even better.

Unifying Shaman Gear Stats

Alrighty, so I like the shaman gear.It offers cond. damage, healing, and toughness. Very nice. Wait, no. It offers that in pvp, but vitality in liue of toughness in Pve. Well at least I have a solid build anyways. wait, actually I cant make a complete shaman set because there’s no trinkets for the shaman set! Well they say compromise is an art, I’ll just use carrion/clerics gear and use crest of the shaman to get a decent effect. Wait wut, Crest of the Shaman boasts power instead of condition damage?

So I guess the reason I made this thread was to ask why Shaman gear is all over the place as far as stats go, and make some suggestions as per this subforums theme.

1. Please make all shaman gear boost toughness instead of vitality in Pve. It would make me a happy camper.
2. Some trinkets with shaman stats(preferably cond.,tough,heal) would be cool. I fail to see why some builds can be “complete” and others not.
3. If the above suggestions seem unreasonable a brief explanation would be nice. Mostly i’m just curious as to the thinking behind Shaman stats being everywhere.

Any thoughts/input into this topic much appreciated. Thanks.

Yeah a split balance would be cool. In pve its good for kiting and keeping mobs still for ground aoe, but in PvP/WvW its easy to dodge even by accident.

Alright, so like many of the eles skills, Shockwave functions quite nicely in PVE, but in PvP/WvW its useless. It’s Cast time, combined with time to target and the fact it moves in only a straight line mean it doesn’t even need to be dodged. Playing against anyone whos not a rock make the thing kitten near impossible to land. So I suggest making it an instant cast or half second cast or something. I’d be glad to lose the bleeding damage it provides for a buff that makes this skill easier to land or quicker to cast. Any thoughts?

@ Seraskus Yeah, I would def like a knockdown or something, but at the same time I feel like it would make air a little ridiculous. Like it has the blind, which I find useful, as well as the speed buff and huge stun field making it a good chase attunment in WvW. If we had a knockdown kitten would be obnoxious. On the other hand, it does feel like an extra skill whos only use is to punch mobs into the stun field. Having it be a finisher is a pretty good idea though, and Id be pretty happy with the same gust with finisher effects.

I see people saying traits but what type would you like to see? And I’ve seen this in a lot of treads, people suggesting trait changes but no specifics. And @ Flennel, I agree, they should combine some of the bleeding burning traits into general condition buffs.

@Nicomachiavelli: I’ve played extensively with every weapon build and found staff played better against groups of mobs. I simply don’t like daggers on the elementalist. That said, this thread is for suggestions, not arguing. none of us feel like the elementalist is crazy weak, just that some buffs to certain aspects of the class would be nice.(such as the downed state)

So a lot of people feel the elementalist is underpowered. Hell I feel that way. But I don’t feel it’s as bad as some are making it out to be. And I definitely don’t think many want some of the drastic changes suggested in other threads. I thoroughly enjoy my elementalist as a matter of fact. However I do see we are a but weak compared to other classes and need some tweaks. I emphasis tweak(is that silly?). We have some obvious problems with overall dps and survivability but anything too big will easily make us OP I feel. That said, my idea is that we all offer up 1 single change to the class(perhaps a themed set) that we feel would be most important. Just 1 per person. Hopefully if we ask for some small stuff first we can get the attention our class needs(kinda). I’ll start.

I’d like some more power to the aoe heals on the staff. It’d give us some more survivability as well as some better contributions in dungeons/events.

PS: Let’s please not talk about Spvp. That can get depressing.

Give it a try. Make sure to switch attachments often. Build condition damage or healing and you’ll have a good time. I swear I was even worse off then everyone else on this forum. I was getting killed by a single mob a level under me early on! But after getting my kitten together I can solo group events just as easily as other classes and do pretty decent in pvp. Everyone is crying “OH FIRE IS GLASS CANNON!!!!!!”. Know before you start. Earth is your best friend. Fire is secondary as burn stacks duration as opposed to intensity(bleeding).

I’m with Pinkerton on this one. Power/precision may be the way to go with other classes but on ele it’s definitely condition damage. If you use staff, all of the main damage dealers are aoe condition based (flameburst,eruption) Not to mention scepter’s auto attacks are also condition based. Going earth also gives good toughness/ survive ability skills. The idea is to know what your going into. I use staff for all purpose/ groups of mobs and scepter/focus for 1v1 and boss battles. It’s INCREDIBLY easy to stack burning and bleeding on enemies with the scepter in a 1v1 for pretty good dps. You can keep up huge bleed stacks easy and with a carrion build it’s no problem to use all of your attacks for good dps. The idea being to stack conditions and use power attacks second. I understand people complaining about ele being under powered in spvp(no interrupt when down) but the elementalist handles pve pretty well in my experience and only suffers a little in dungeons due to low health. Your playing a different class here and have to take advantage of what you got so stop trying to play it like a warrior or a thief.
