Leader of the 3 man Pop Up Pirates(POMF)
Pretty OK Elementalist
By all means. I myself am sick of late night pvd.(ET)
So many posts implying 0/10/0/30/30 builds are all bunkers rather than balanced if armored without PVT/Healing gear.
ANOUNCEMENT. The Pop Up Pirates now have not one, but two level 80 players. I’ll give you a moment to let that sink in……….TWO UNSTOPPABLE PIRATE, KILLING MACHINES. Wait till we have 3! Yes. If I was in FC or SF I too, like you would be shaking in my boots – or socks which I understand some wear while reading the forums.
Except for Yarr of course. They may continue they’re activities as we duo(and then trio) the entirety of this matchup. You’ve been warned.

Tonight marks the first night the Pop Up Pirates[POMF] actually fielded the 3 players we claim to have. Tonight was a good night.
saw yall! but only killed 2 of you.. your warrior disappeared somewhere…
(between garr and cliffside in fc bl)
I too was looking for the strange disappearing Pop up Pirate( The most adequate at popping in and out apparently). I only say this because we lack a warrior
Perhaps another pirate guild? There are several in our matchup.
Also I think we ran into you guys on the cliffs if I remember your tag. I thought I’d be cute and tornado your group off of the edge. That went miserably for me and my companions.
Well the fact they are trying to single us out as being the ones to use Zergs is just a continuation to the fighting that has been going on since the first match we won…just can’t wait to be out of this tier.
It’s the same in every matchup. Kain whined about DR when they didn’t outnumber Kain that hard. People do it in the other tiers. If you win, it likely is a number thing with the way WvW works. Best it shrug it off and call it a day. But if it makes you feel better, SF is certainly just as coordinated as FC or ET if not more. Not that it matters.
People finally learned to play and from that we saw a mass ele fotm rerolling. So now you will find a handful very skilled D/D elementalists causing havoc and LOADS of Pow/Tough/Vit D/D eles that cant kill a thing, but wont die either
Prepare for a kittenstorm in this thread from raging forumwarriors though
Just about nailed it on the head.
Let the fun begin. I look forward to another week of smashing the SF zerg who seem so insistent to funnel themselves like the 300 hot gates as we AoE and pinch them into decimation.
I look forward to FC being practically non-existent due to whatever happened there.
And I look forward to SF proving that they actually have a brain in their zerg, and it has been increasingly apparent in the last few weeks.
Every team uses zegrs on every sever pretty apparent every Friday night. If a server can’t get those numbers out during the week that is an internal problem, hope GoM will be a better fit, but pretty sure the result will be the same.
I’m 99 percent sure that was a compliment to the increasingly coordinated zergs you guys are rolling about. No need to get defensive of your server.

ET this is how bad we want your land.
Not even mad at that. I’m impressed even.
Take root is pretty nifty. Use it to buy myself a couple of seconds for rtl to get off cooldown if the zerg is on me.
I got two.
One of the Sylvari Personal story missions is based off of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight.
Someone mentioned dredge chests as a borderlands reference, but the boss in Sorrows Embrace is likely a reference to the final boss in Borderlands. Both are named the Destroyer of Worlds and both come out of an icy cave. Reinforced by the whole borderlands chest thing.
Got nice and comfy with the COSA crew for a while this morning. Persistent bunch.
Worse. And worse isn’t the only word in this reply because I need 15 apparently.
^Minimum like 11 seconds I think for 20 arcane. 9 seconds for 30. I’m sure a few eles run less than 20 in that line, but very few and it’s even less likely in WvW because people tend to want bigger aoe on staff. That said, he’s right other than the counter.
I don’t know if any of their players come here but shout out to the claw guys who almost got me with like 5 permasteath thieves. I’m all like “I can take this thief” and then I saw the one who came out of stealth to hit me was human and not charr. Noped right the hell outta there just in time to see the other 4. Ain’t even mad that was clever as hell.

Some people bring up some good points. Not everyone has a lot of condition cleanse on their build. But many eles do. And even if they don’t I’m sure most can argree Direct damage is more likely to kill you in a 1v1 situation. Conditions just don’t seem like the best way to kill an ele.
And to be a little kitten, I fail to see how having a high cleanse builds makes it a “noob” build. Condition cleanse is excellent when you want to dive into a zerg attacking your tower/keep. You can seriously disrupt things that way and a lot of condition cleanse makes sure you get back. Dead ele deals no damage after all.
(Quicknote) outside of confusion, conditions are useless against eles. So much cleanse it ain’t funny.
To have this not so funny amount of cleanse you are talking about, an Elementalist is forced into exactly one build. That involves full Arcane and full Water (10 Points left for diversity… thumbs up) and maybe additionally Cleansing Fire as a Utility, leaving 2 slots…
I for my part also play D/D, but I use some different Traits and haven’t got the cleanse from Water XI. So when not taking Cleansing Fire with me (that would be 99% of the time, because I prefer other Utilities) my only cleanses are switching to water attunement and dodging in water attunement… And I’m quite sure I’m not the only one trading some cleanse for some (still minor) dmg or even direct dmg protection.
This one build mentioned above is extreme when it comes to cleanse (too extreme) and should be adjusted BUT this should be done without hurting other builds, what is very difficult. I think that all the trait lines need to be reorganized to build up more synergy for also other builds and weapon setups… I hope that ANet will find a solution for those problems.
You seem to be entirely forgetting ether renewal which is the best PvE heal skill by far and my personal favorite in WvW, though there are certainly flaws. It’s 8 cleanses every 15 seconds with the biggest burst heal of all the heal skills. Just as far as condition cleanse goes this is fantastic. Also I fail to see why you wouldn’t go 30 into water for a d/d build. You can get your damage from armor/weapons/trinkets. Just how much damage do you want to do? I can see glass working for staff in some situations but d/d glass is iffy. Also for high risk zerg walking/disruption in WvW I say you can never have too much cleanse but that’s just me.
(edited by Ralloff.7359)
In a skirmish situation I dunno. But honestly mesmers/theives/eles are all annoying stacked in numbers and can down a group fast. That said I disagree with the above wiping boons won’t work. Eles CONSTANTLY reapply boons. It will make a brief impact but won’t do much else. You’re best bet is high burst or confusion. If you aren’t incredibly bursty you can’t kill a decent ele in 1v1 unless you make him think he’s winning thus lowing his guard and being less concerned about health. Once he’s down halfway shatter. Mesmer is the best class 1v1 against an ele in my experience. Just my point of view.
(Quicknote) outside of confusion, conditions are useless against eles. So much cleanse it ain’t funny.
I don’t know about “op” but as an ele, confusion is the bane of my existence. I’m sure other eles know my pain of instantly wiping half of your own health.
That said I say wait a few more months for any nerfs. See how things play out. It’s very possible l2p issue. Like I die to condition mesmers whenever I encounter them D/D(staff I do fine) But I’ve only fought a handful of them so there’s inexperience to take into consideration.

I think it’s worth a shot. The current system is dreadful.
This whole thing is adorable.
They’re the best.
Sometimes when I kill someone I spam surprised. Sometimes I do it before I kill them and just let them wail on me. Am I honorable fighter for ET nao?
I second this motion.
ITT: People bashing servers that are the same but with different population.
I’ve seen SF noobs and 80s run into legendary archers. I’ve seen ET do that as well.
I’ve wiped small groups of 80s with a sub 80 guard and my buddy with a level 50 guard. I also saw a thief from SF wipe half of our stonemist attack yesterday single handedly.
The moral is all the servers have crap players and good players. Stop arguing about numbers.
It’s unfair. If you wanted a fair fight why stay ET or Ferg?
Also all the people talking about honor like they zuko or some kitten, stop it. People from every server have been corpse dancing ect.
TL;DR stop whining and play the game instead of fighting on the forums.
You pretty much nailed it. Felt a little insignificant in new Kain. Moved to ET and it feels quite similar to old Kain.
Best thing since Ele tornado nerf.
@Caffynated
Thanks for the response. With what you said I’m not going to rush out and grab all the gear, but the next regear I do I’ll probably give this one a try. Gotta gear my soon to be 80 Guardian first though. This is an awesome build by the way.
The most efficient stat layout for an ele IMO:
Berserker (POWER/precision/crit damage)
Shoulders
Gloves
Shoes
Accessories
Amulet
DaggersSoldier (POWER/toughness/vitality)
Helm
Chest
Pants
Rings
BackAll exquisite ruby jewels in your amulet, accessories, back and rings.
6x runes of divinity
or
2x superior water 2x superior monk 2x major water/monk
Battle or Energy in one dagger
Bloodlust and a backup dagger with ForceWith the standard 0 10 0 30 30 build you would have the following stats with exotic gear and divinity runes:
17,025 health
1,977 power
32% crit chance (52% with fury)
67% crit damage
2,158 armor
360 healing
I have some small questions if you don’t mind because just looking at the numbers I’m tempted to switch from a simple knight build to this. I’ve been pretty content but I know there are definitely better builds out there. So to the questions.
1. Does your power listed reflect power with or without full stacks of bloodlust?
2. If you know, how much squishier is this than a knights build(With adequate condition removal) if at all squishier? I like a durable build.
3. What kinda crits do you see against glass? What kinda crits do you see against tanks?
4. Will this build work in pvp as well as WvW? If not, what variations exist for both?
That’s actually all of them. Thanks in advance.
Literally took me a good 10 seconds wondering why Ebay was the server and not the online marketplace to realize how stupid I am.
Me and a couple of buddies transferring off Kain back to T8. WvW hasn’t been fun in weeks due to Kain war machine steam rolling and I know even if we get a balanced fight next week, the fights are gonna be kitten every other week based on my experience in other high tier servers. What server needs some peeps? Only like 5 people all low levels except me. And another guy who might not even switch.
Those nerfs seem a little overboard, but they’ll be balanced by the extra 15GB of free disk space you’ll have. [/quote]
I had me a hearty giggle upon reading this.
Someone suggesting Meteor Shower is op? I don’t even know what to make of this. It’s honestly one of the most balanced skills in our set if not any set. Long cast time, obvious animation, wide as hell but unlikely to hit any single player more than once in most situations. Moderately high cooldown. Able to be interrupted. Only good as an area denial and siege breaker to anyone but a glass cannon. And if your MS is doing enough damage to be “op” then you’re paper to be killed by necros and rangers aoeing the wall you’re undoubtedly on because if you were anywhere else you would be insta gibbed by even the humblest of bunker guardians.
People love Karma
Zergs love Karma trains
Zergs are needed in higher tiers, imo.
A small group of great PvP’ers mean nothing when your looking at a 50 man FA/CD/YB Zerg. You might be great 1v1, or 1v2, 3, but you can not help the server doing your own thing. If you solo a supply camp, yes that is great, more PPT, but its one less target for a zerg. With out Karma trains, the zerg separates off of the commander, and does their own thing. Only the people who understand that the commander needs bodies on him/her are there.
A lot of people dislike zergs, mindless zerg this, mindless zerg that, but what do you think happens when 20 people come up to 40 people?
Already plenty of times I have lead 20-30 Kainengs into 40+ AR or NSP zergs, what do you think happens to your fellow Kainengs?
Group integrity, unit cohesion, those terms may mean very little to some of you out there, but they mean a lot in WvW.
You’re absolutely right. In these higher tiers big numbers and cohesion is necessary to win. I find that boring and that’s why I said I like tier 8. Because that isn’t always the case in tier 8. Because you can’t always have a zerg. And you won’t always have a commander. And now I think we have an understanding.
So you enjoy T8? I would like to know what has changed that you want back. Yes there are more on the server now and we’re not up to the tier where we will face even competition. Other than the somewhat less exciting match up, what is missing (or unwanted addition)?
Dunno. I’ve been on 2 top tier servers before. I just don’t much like the bigger battles. I like the fact that when I join WvW I; me alone, can make a pretty sizable difference. For some reason I like when a guild would join and not understand that their measly 15 people could make a HUGE difference in our bl. I liked the personal matchups. Guess I just like dead servers. Also queues and LA overflow. I hate those. Actually just that.
Edit: I should note that if the next matchup seems incredible I might stay but the chances are slim. I’m not eager to leave Kain it just doesn’t seem as fun as it was before.
If you think you can make a difference by yourself, well you are wrong.
I have already experienced going to a gate with 10-20 people, throwing down two rams, and only one being built.
Your extra DPS or Support can make a difference when 20 people face 20 people. Support your server, soloing sentry points or supply camps does not help.
You are wrong. Plain and simple. You speak of 20 on 20 fights and the difference I can make in those. When I joined Kaineng just a couple months back, I scoped out LA to see what kind of players we had. I had to do a double take because I saw less then 20 people from the bank to the tp. One person was the difference between tower kept or tower taken. I’m fine with you guys transferring to the server and not getting the impact you’ve had. But if you think 1 person can’t make a difference in tier 8 then you are not only wrong, but delusional. Now I’m not trying to glorify things; after all it’s just a game. But at some times we would have maybe 5 guys in EB taking camps and holding/upgrading towers.
What I meant by “I; me alone, can make a pretty sizable difference.” was that I can see the difference I make on the entire match, not just a single battle. That said, soloing in tier 8 can make a big difference. Maybe not sentries. But camps are everything and upgrading the back end was something many forgot to do. If you don’t get that then you don’t get tier 8. And I don’t expect you to if you haven’t got it by now. But this isn’t tier 8 and you don’t have to get it.
So you enjoy T8? I would like to know what has changed that you want back. Yes there are more on the server now and we’re not up to the tier where we will face even competition. Other than the somewhat less exciting match up, what is missing (or unwanted addition)?

So tired of facing these zerg servers man, they just ruin everything for the rest of us!
J/K, was fun getting rolled by NSP right after we capped.
How does anyone have fun running with that many people?
No idea. But that’s what Kaineng and most other more populated servers seem to do. Can’t be helped though. Honestly just sticking around to smash some DR skulls and then gonna jump back down to tier 8. My Kaineng pride just ain’t here no more.
My feelings about Kaineng in song.
Noticed a lot of people saying Kain and DR kept each other tier 8. While it’s true DR pushing us kept a lot of our pop inactive, Fergs definitely deserve to be mentioned more when discussing that matchup. Very skilled players before they all broke up. Not sure about now.
I second this motion.
Guardian > Warrior in general. Warriors have limited condition removal making them meh in large scale fights. Guardians are a little limited in the range departments but you can make up for that in a lot of ways. But just to put it in prospective I can’t remember the last time I lost to a Warrior in a 1v1. They have too little condition removal and their burst is highly predictable. I’m not the type to say willy nilly that I can’t lose to a class either because I’m not that good, but warrior has some serious flaws on the PvP side. That said if you have some guys in a group you can do some mad damage with kill shot if you sneak it in there.
TL;DR Guardian>Warrior but if you want versatility go Ele. They can seriously do everything pretty well with one build.
I’m sorry whats the deal with FOTM with D/D? I don’t run it often but when I did I had few problems switching to D/D for some parts.
Wish I had a good group of a few eles. Nice teamwork.
I take a couple days off and Envy and Np leave? I’m a tad sad about that. Had some good fights with Np and MANY good fights with Envy. However I’m also happy because quite frankly I’m sick of your stealthing and kitten. I’d say good luck, but I think the servers opposing yours might need it more with you around.
Thanks for all the great tips guys! It’s hard enough becoming good with a new set but fighting mesmers has been a new hell for me. Hopefully I can put some of this to good use.
AH my bad then yea. hmm wats ur build maybe i can help is this for WvW or spvp?
Well I’m currently full knights geared. I’ve been running 0/10/0/30/30 for the added boon duration and attune swap as well as the added heal from EA. That said I just switched to 0/10/10/30/20 to see if the extra condition helps plus having some toughness and armor of earth doesn’t hurt. And its for WvW.
You misread. I switched from staff to D/D.
Edit: Also thanks. I figured it might be a lack of condition. My rabid build had ton of condition damage and I never had trouble but I switched to deal with other classes that wipe condition easy.
(edited by Ralloff.7359)
So, I recently switched from a primary staff ele to primary dagger/dagger ele. I also switched from a rabid build to a knight build. And everything is going quite fine. Killing things is a breeze. Except for you pesky mesmers. I never had a particular problem dealing with them. But recently I’ve been having more trouble than ever before. Is it my build? Are all the mesmers getting better?
Well to get to the point; what kills your builds? What is the weakness to a good shatter mesmer? Is it conditions? Is it shear power? And more specifically what types of ele do you hate fighting? I’d be most grateful for any replies.
Had a good laugh when an ET invader tried to break up a duel between an Envy mesmer and myself. We turned, downed him, double stomped him and went back to our business.
Probably would’ve lost against the mesmer, but a Guardian showed up and I ended up fighting him. We both gave up after a good 7-10 minutes due to a mutual lack of burst. Well fought though.
Props to the POMP ele, atleast I think it was POMP. Pop pirates or something like that lol.
Always fun to have a good 1v1, and also thxs to the other Kains for not ruining the fun.
And mad props to you sir! Was a fun fight! Right at the end I thought I had you but I was quite wrong and you made me pay for it. Nicely fought.
Slightly afterward I realized the irony of a tree person fighting with a chainsaw.
So to anyone that knows, did NoQQ not transfer to T7? I thought they were gonna. Just curious.
Also to Envy. I respect you. But I also hate you all and hope each of you die in a fire.
