Another MOBA wannabe Gamemode in expansion?

OP, have you heard of Fort Aspenwood and Jade Quarry of Guild Wars 1? I’m one of those clamoring for their return in Guild Wars 2, or atleast something similar. I’ll make an estimate, I think I spent my GW1 game time 60% in Random Arenas, 35% in FA and JQ, and 5% PvE (story mode of base game plus 3 expansions and the daily Zaishen missions combined, not really a PvE guy). As for the inspiration behind FA or JQ, that’s another discussion altogether haha. I kittening love FA and JQ! I miss playing those maps. You have a mix duels and skulduggery, you have to outsmart your opponent and you really need to work as a team. My wish though is if they’ll make a 10v10 map instead of 5v5. I don’t know, I think it’s much fun playing 10v10 in a large competitive map like FA and JQ (kitten suxons btw).

As we are talking about Stronghold, I’d like arenanet to fix their netcode fix to prevent speedhacking/teleport hacks.

Stability changes

Different CC should remove different number of stability charges. For instance, fear will remove 2 stability charges per 1 second of fear. Or if the poor servers or the inefficient netcode of arenanet couldn’t handle that kind of calculation when player numbers are scaled up, fear would remove a flat number of stability charges. Other CC would remove a stability charge depending on their “disabling/interrupting power”, such as pull only removing 1, etc.

Don’t fight enemies that are 2 or more levels above you when you are still below level 80. Even playing with level 80 characters, you would notice that enemies that are level 82 and above seems to have a lot more HP than enemies at your level. Keep in mind that it’s not only your character level you have to look at, your gear level as well is important. Keep your gear updated as often as possible (every 5 levels atleast).

Maybe people should stop being attention kitten, and stop following him and other streamers (such as Nightblue) as well. It is annoying and irritating when show-off people are buzzing around you. It’s like constantly being followed by a bunch of kitten guidos trying to show you how big their muscles are, are you guys moist with Sodapoppin and Nightblue? Wow. “Her bro, hey bro, hey look at me, hey, hey bro look, hey, look at my muscles man, hey, hey bro, look at me, hey, hey bro…”

Did anet plan to add aerial battles?

ReaperStriker.1982

Looking at the map, I’ve always wondered about that “Upper Level” option in the map view since the very beginning of the game. I’ve anticipated that arenanet will feature aerial battles sometime in the future, as a variation/offshoot of underwater battles, that is, aerial battles will use a slightly different movement physics and fight mechanics of underwater battles. Could it be that the backpack isn’t just for flashy or showy back skins, could it be that it’s intended for items that enable you to fly? But because of the backlash against underwater fights, maybe arenanet scraped aerial battles altogether. Wouldn’t it be nice to bring back underwater battles and, in turn, have aerial battles?

Quick Skill Slots and Quick Traits

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

ReaperStriker.1982

I often change my skill set and traits in the game, whether it be in WvW or PvE dungeons. Sometimes I also have to change all my gear, and having to also change all my traits and skill set one by one, it is becoming rather tedious and time consuming. Do note that I have no problem changing traits and skill sets, the problem is when I’m near danger, such as in WvW. That’s when I need to be able to change traits and skill sets fast, before the enemy hits me and I’m locked to whatever incomplete mess I was able to configure out of my traits. I’d like to be able adapt to the situation, and quick traits and quick skill slots would greatly help me.

Also, this could encourage “roles” in PvP. Right now, it’s “mid” or “home” or “far” at the start. Maybe instead of that, we should call out roles you would like to play. And having quick skill slots and quick traits alleviates the tediousness of having to reconfigure your traits and skill sets every start of battle.

Always look at the minimap please. If you played RTS games like Starcraft 2, you would know how important it is to take a look at your minimap constantly. You could say map awareness is one of essential and greatest gaming skill you could learn. Let me put it this way, your minimap is like your side mirrors when you’re driving a car. You use it to check if everything is OK, if there’s going to be a problem. You take a peek at it while fighting, just as you would while you are driving, although you would take a look at it more often than when you are driving since the battlefield is full of twists and turns so to speak. One wrong way and you swipe and crash.

Speaking of dragons, are all the dragons accounted for? Were the precursor races able to defeat all of them, or did the dragons “sleep” on their own volition? I wonder what really happened, and the arrival of the ‘gods’ just after the dragons returned to their slumber is highly suspect. Do note that humans “came from the west” from Guild Wars 1 lore. Maybe the early human settlers were refugees from a dragon invasion in the western continent. Did humans know magic before they reached Tyria, and their magical capabilities were just enhanced by the ‘gods’? Jotuns are said to be the first ones to be blessed by magic by the ‘gods’, what made them choose humans instead? Maybe they were already showing signs of magical capabilities, such as the skritt showing potential to become a formidable race in future. Maybe humans were weak back then but had potential, and can be compared to the present day skritts, looked down upon by the other races, but is showing lots of potential for ingenuity (as a side note, the charr were once the ‘skritts’ back when giants still roam Tyria, as was revealed in LS2).

Each ascended insignia needs 3 silk spool infused with spirit energy, but each of them need 100 of t5 material, as opposed to 50 on the other materials. Why the prejudice on light armored characters anet? Is there favoritism (or hatred) of certain classes in the dev team? Are you trying to replicate the value of silk during the middle ages in real life? I just don’t get it. In the first place, why ——100—— t5 materials to make a Spool of Silk Weaving Thread? Do you lack foresight anet? Yeah t5 materials might have been abundant a year ago when you made a database query. Oh I’ll just find out what materials are abundant NOW, deedubeedumdum, there, oh it’s silk. Gotta purge them excess silk. I know, make each Spool of Silk Weaving Thread require 1000000000000 silk, yupyup, that solves the over abundance. And for the sake of common sense, this is ascended materials we are talking about. Why are you still following the recipe for exotics to make ascended armor. For exotic armors, you get a chance to get gossamer when salvaging high level items. Do we have a chance to get ascended materials when salvaging high level items? Come on, don’t you get it? I know there is a chance to get silk instead of gossamer, but really, my bank’s overflowing with gossamer already, and you have a 6/25 chance (it’s not accurate I know) to get a light armor piece when ever you get a monster drop or open a bag. Wait a sec, does salvaging medium and heavy armor give you a chance to get back the mats used to make the insignia, or do you just get back metal and leather? Maybe that’s a solution, make silk (and other cloth materials) salvageable on ALL armor classes, since cloth materials are used on them as well.

Maybe anet, when you think of something, when it seemed ingenious to yourself or to your buddy, let it sleep over first. Then take some breakfast, then think about your ingenious decision. Relax in your toilet, then think about your ingenious decision. Play the game, then think about your ingenious decision again. When you drive to work, think about your ingenious decision. When you are planning/programming the game at your office, think about your previous ingenious decision while making new ingenious decisions. Take a coffee break, and still think about your ingenious decision. Maybe then you would finally realize that you should make some kittening simulations and testing first, before releasing your ingenious decisions upon the citizens of Tyria.

Looking at the interview videos, Colin looked so pitiful to me asking for the help of “streamers” and the “community celebrities” to spread the word of GW2 and it’s expansion, but at the same time, I feel his humbleness to do this sort of thing for GW2. I just thought that’s not enough. I think we ourselves can do something as well, not just relying on “community celebrities” (I am reluctant to say community figureheads, since they are not leaders or have any responsibility towards us). I don’t know, I’m not 100% sure of the most effective way to do this. I’d like some input from you guys please. I was thinking word of mouth (again), but I don’t know. We can do one thing, or we can do multiple things. I know anet tried spreading Guild Wars 2 info before using the ‘Pledge of Allegiance’ videos, but there was something off with it. Maybe we can try it again, the correct way? Turn down the cheese and awkwardness perhaps (that’s how it felt). The thing with the Living Story design is that it gives players the impression that “there’s always a party” or “there’s always something new” in GW2, but I think anet failed to execute it fully (or maximize it’s intended effect). Maybe they could have used more bold announcements, bordering on exaggerated, just to get players’ attention. I for one was a loyal GW1 player. I love that game, but the early LS1 releases didn’t catch my eye, plus there was no info that it was temporary (but I think they are now reconsidering returning LS1). I thought I could try it some time later, which turned out to be more than a year later, and I found out they were temporary. I also know the current mindset of some of the veteran players that have stopped playing; they feel or think they are already ‘finished’ the game (ie. got several characters to level 80, got their legendaries, etc), and moved on to other games. How could we lure them back, how do we change this mindset? “We missed you, and you missed a lot of things. Come back and experience what you’ve missed!” (lol) Sorry for the corny idea-slogan. “Brand new experience!” “Experience GW2 like you’re on a new adventure!” Also there are players as well that tried the game for several days, then left, half-way through level 80, meaning they didn’t bother to finish the game since it’s just a pay-once to play game, them thinking “oh it’s just another Battlefield or CoD”. Another thing to consider are veteran players who had quit GW2, then returning for a while, only to leave again. What are they looking for when they take a peek again at the game?

Stop making outfits!!!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

ReaperStriker.1982

Outfits have the benefit of being able to be worn regardless of armor class (ie. light, heavy), as well as not using transmutation charges. But still, transmutation charges are fairly easy to get in PvP, and as stated by another poster, you couldn’t mix and match the armor pieces. Maybe anet could return the townclothes UI, and tweak it to be used for outfit customization instead.

When are you going to fix speedhacking anet?

Examples of speedhacking in ranked PvP:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l0-Hh4EoNPc

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-0Wj2pqt75M

Be informed, be vigilant. I have many more videos, I have caught more than 15 speedhackers just this past month. Just record suspicious activities, like in Legacy of Foefire, if a warrior with sword/horn and hammer gets to your home first before you do, then there’s something fishy going on, and my suspicions were right and I caught that speedhacker on video recording.

And it’s not enough to “just report” this. What about those who don’t know that speedhacks exists, or those who do not know the tell tale signs of speedhacking, or those who couldn’t record videos because of hardware specs. Plus I’m not being paid by anet to police PvP arenas. That’s the least they can do, go in invisible mode and “patrol” ongoing ranked matches, atleast some of it. But that’s just show effort, token effort. We need an overhaul of the network code, or atleast, put some checks in the system to automatically catch speedhackers so that ‘gamemasters’ (does anet have people who trim and prim the quality of gameplay of the players in a live environment) would look into it quickly. Yes there are those who monitor complaints, but could anet put some people dedicated to monitoring reports of botting coming from PvP (since there are no report options for “hacking” or “cheating”).

Do you even care about PvP anet? Do you even care about the gameplay experience of your players? Almost daily, I come across people who are speedhacking, don’t you play your games anet? The reason for me asking this is the rampant and blatant speedhacking in both ranked and unranked games. I have proof of several players using speedhacking just this past 5 weeks.

And stronghold will have ‘supply carrier’ mechanics??? Speedhackers must be salivating at the thought of trolling stronghold games. So when is anet going to fix speedhacking. Better yet, make a replay feature, just like in Guild Wars 1. Most will try to knock you back before using rapid fire. Save your dodges for that, ie. once you got knocked back, if he used rapid fire, dodge twice. Maybe use death shroud to tank some of the damage and to get close fast (skill 2). I often use staff, so I could fear the ranger before he could do another round of rapid fire combo. After closing in, time your retals. I also spec my death shroud with retal.

Traits Part 2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

ReaperStriker.1982

I hated that some of the trait hunts are bound to “time dependent” events, such as the ones in Orr (ie. defeat the high priest, defeat the grenth priest, defend the lyssa temple, etc.) Hate those things. You have to realize that some players have more than 2 characters at level 80s that need those traits. For me it’s not just one character waiting for 3 separate events, it’s 10 characters I have to trait hunt, and that’s 90 gold if I decided to buy all the traits.

Not that I hate the trait hunt system overall. I once hated the trait hunts at first, but somehow, I appreciate that it encourages players, new and veteran players alike, to explore the world of Tyria. For instance, I didn’t know there was an underwater obstacle course. I was irritated by the design at first (died multiple times) and being “forced” to do it (yeah I know, I could buy the skills, but decided to try hunting the traits to save some money), but by and by I got good at the obstacle course, at the end I felt satisfied after finishing it. I also discovered there are these “mini-dungeons” scattered across Tyria. I like the trait hunt system, but please “polish” it a little bit more and tone down the difficulty, or atleast tweak it to be more fair. One suggestion I could think of is that map completion of certain starter areas unlocks the basic traits for a specific trait line (ie. completion of Metrica Province unlocks traits I-VI in the power based trait line).

Also, ahem, let’s be frank, alot of players jump on to EotM to level up fast. The new stat gain system gimps new players and it further diminishes their usefulness in WvW. Although players are “upleveled” to level 80 stats, the stats from their traits boost or supplement that base stat. With the new trait system, a level 50-60 fighter today is comparatively weaker than to an uplevel fighter before the changes.
