One person said a bad thing about a class, therefore the class must be bad! ANet, shame on you for your class balancing!
I’d be okay with this set if it were changed to:
Rune of the Master
(1) Adds +5 to all stats and +1% to critical damage.
(2) Allows the character to spend 1 extra trait point.
(3) Adds +5 to all stats and +1% to critical damage.
(4) Allows the character to spend 2 extra trait point.
(5) Adds +5 to all stats and +1% to critical damage.
(6) Allows the character to spend 2 extra trait point.
This way you’d only get, at most, 5 trait points out of it. Furthermore, this would require you to commit all 6 slots in order to get those benefits, and the odd runes would be weak by comparison to all other runes (half of one Divinity rune). This way you’d really have to want the 5 trait points to get them, and only putting in 2 of the runes wouldn’t get you as much as investing more heavily. I think this would be fair.
I agree that we need to get the other currencies out of the inventory/bank and into a currency panel (or currency list). However, we should not merge the dungeon tokens into one currency because that removes the prestige of “I beat X so I get items from X”. With that change you could beat X and get rewards from Y, even though you never did Y.
Glad to hear about your interest!
We’re not super picky about current level and things, and I’d be more than happy to talk through profession tricks as you level up (most of them aren’t relevant until much later). I would have no problem with you joining the guild, chatting up, learning, and participating in dungeons and things once you hit a higher level. As far as WvW goes, you can participate at any level, but you’ll need to be aware that it’ll be much more difficult than once you get to max level! Either way, we’d be happy to have you. I’ll fire you an in-game email when I get home from work so we can chat more.
While I ultimately agree with Vol, I will humor the discussion.
I would say 250 laurels for an Account Bound precursor, if I had to put a price on precursors in laurels given current means of acquisition only. Six or so months of dedicated effort in terms of dailies and monthlies seems “fair” in my completely arbitrary interpretation of fairness.
I worked toward my precursor by earning gold and getting it that way. It was nothing I wasn’t expecting, and nothing I wasn’t prepared to pay. That you disagree with gold being something you can work towards is odd, but entirely your prerogative.
There’s nothing to discuss. You crafted it, good job.
The only discussion I’m having now is why this sort of thread is unproductive, and the only reason I’m contributing to it is to try to help you understand that. If you have no desire to listen to me, then I won’t further waste my time.
It’s a team effort, and what matters is your success or failure. It’s exactly why in PvP they do not have such statistics as a KD ratio, they do not have visible statistics telling players who was good and who they should flame for being less-than-exceptional. Regardless, in general it’s pretty easy to tell who is pulling their weight and who isn’t, and that’s ultimately all the info this would give.
What I wouldn’t mind, however, is having a scoreboard that notes only positive things achieved. This means it wouldn’t track how many times you died in a dungeon, or how many times you were downed, but maybe instead how many revives you contributed to, how much life you healed, how much damage you dealt, and how much damage you mitigated (blocks, evades, etc). I imagine the game doesn’t track all of this information right now, however, and since it’s a purely informative pursuit and has no bearing on your gameplay, I wouldn’t want ANet prioritizing this at all. Maybe we’ll see something like this in several years.
It will be, of that I have no doubt. That said, if you want your precursor now, you need to get it in the ways that are available now. If you’re willing to wait for a scavenger hunt, more power to you. It gives you a chance to earn a lot of money in the meantime.
You’re right, it is, and the description of the forum specifically states that it is for getting and giving help, getting and making suggestions, and discussion. Nothing is in there about showing off. Instead of posting here, you should enjoy your achievement where it counts: in-game.
Put in a buy order 1c above the next highest buy order and you’ll get it filled eventually (assuming you always stay 1c ahead). The sell listings are not the only precursors being moved through the market.
I think his point (one I agree with) is that this is a discussion forum, and there is no discussion to be had here when you’re just showing off your success. You’re seeking congratulations (and, indeed, this is a feat for sure), but it is otherwise the same thing we’ve seen a hundred times before.
Remember when T6 materials were 10c-80c apiece?
The problem is that people want to see GW2 turn into the game of their design rather than go out and get a game that suits their preferences. Then, when others on the forum suggest that they might enjoy another game better, they lash back saying such things as “Don’t tell me what to play! I’ll play what I want!”. If you want a game with dedicated roles, get a game with dedicated roles! Don’t buy the hot new MMORPG and then complain when it isn’t what you wanted. It’s okay if you have complaints about small systems, or UI issues, or things of that nature, but you’re not going to get your way with massive overhauling changes to the entire game. ANet isn’t going to redo every class and bring back “the trinity”; it’s that simple. People just need to figure that out, and eventually it’ll all work itself out.
That said, there’s a sub-community within every game community that tries to find ways to complain no matter what, so I’m sure it’ll never go away completely. That’s something we just have to live with.
For me it entirely depends upon what fractals I got in the RNG. If it was all quick runs like swamp, city, water, or snowblind, I have no problem killing these enemies. That said, if I roll dredge and cliffside, I usually just feel like getting the hell out of fractals, and would prefer to skip as much as possible.
That said, if people started randomly attacking the mobs, you better believe I’m going to throw on my MF armor, sigh heavily, and smash my face into the keyboard to kill the mobs even if I don’t feel like it. I think the courtesy of asking is a nice thing, and certainly appreciate it as opposed to people just making assumptions.
In many dungeons, I run MF gear and die less than other players who wear PVT gear. It depends so heavily on player skill that it’s not a big deal. I contribute near-max dps in my MF gear and still rarely go down, so really I don’t think it detracts that heavily from the team’s efficiency. That said, in actually difficult content (or WvW) I run my other sets of armor without MF, but there is so little actually difficult content that it’s not all that frequent (basically this is for some specific parts in Fractals, boss fights like GL, Simin, and so forth).
Yeah, and upon retrospect, whenever I throw on my dev tag for a dungeon, people tend to show me exploits and point them out >.<
However I have been thoroughly amused at times. I tend to hide my dev tags when finding a PUG, and then halfway through the dungeon I will tag up, and watch everyone leave the instance within minutes.
That’s hilarious, haha. People must go “Oh crap! The developer saw me exploit, gotta bail so he can’t ban me!!!” I’d totally run with you any day of the week, if only so I could use it as an excuse to talk to you about random dungeon design in a less formal environment.
If you wouldn’t do it with a developer in your party, then it’s probably an exploit and you shouldn’t do it.
This is actually an adorable way to look at it. Next time I see something questionable I’m going to pose this to my team this and see what happens, haha.
Yeah that is definitely a bug. It should come with a Superior Sigil of Accuracy in it, and there’s definitely no way to remove a sigil without destroying the item you got it from. Definitely get someone from ANet to look at this.
If your name were John Smith, I’d believe you. As it stands, you have no idea what they get used for from your position. You assume that there are a fixed number of precursors on the market and that none are ever created nor used, which is most definitely incorrect.
I don’t understand, do you guys seriously not see the inherent flaw in the current precursor situation?
Whether there is a flaw or not is irrelevant. The current price is such because of the current situation, and people are willing to pay that price. As far as the market is concerned, that is all that matters. Down the road we’ll have a precursor scavenger hunt that I’m sure you’ll all take advantage of and that I am sure will change the supply and demand of these items in some fashion, but if you want your precursor now, you need to get it in the ways that ANet provided for you now. That’s all there is to it.
Yes everyone can get all the materials except the Precursor by some good o’l axle grease. You can work towards them. You can not work towards the Precursor. You have to luck out.
I worked toward mine, and now I have it. Seriously, you can do it, it’s really not that bad considering the status associated with legendary items.
I got my precursor without RNG, and so can you. If you won’t pay the current prices for them, fine, but if someone else will pay that same very large sum for their precursor, then the precursor is appropriately valued. It’s as simple as that. Good luck earning gold.
P.S. Charismatic Harm: While I agree with your argument, your attitude is hurting the case. Stop being so forceful; it’s not going to help Oglaf understand anything better (which is clearly the intent of you posting).
Let me just say that it has been nice doing rather well for a change. DR and IoJ are good opponents, and regardless of how many players each server has, I know that SBI has been fighting hard thus far for the points we have. From where I sit in the battles, most matches appear pretty even in numbers, and sometimes we come out on top and sometimes we don’t. It really comes down to coverage, but I’m okay with that.
Keep it up guys! Been good so far!
Not currently, no. You’d have to mail them the gold and then have them convert it to gems and buy the item. You could also buy them a gem card IRL if you know them personally.
I support making this possible.
You could probably get away with working extra hours earlier in the week and taking off early on Friday to make the drive. Depends on your company, but if I were only 3 hours away, that’s what I’d do.
Yeah, let me quote the relevant part from Linsey’s blog post. Note the bolded part, which specifically says that Legendary items will have identical quality stats to Ascended items.
“Legendary items were always intended to be on par with other “best-in-slot” items. So fear not, all existing Legendary weapons, which are currently on par with Exotics, will be upgraded to be on par with Ascended weapons at the same time that we add Ascended weapons to the game. "

I’d go if I lived in Seattle. Meeting these guys would be very insightful, and I’d love to sit down at some point with Rob and talk dungeon design.
It was probably hiding in the seaweed.
I agree that three “T3” quality armor sets would be way better than the T1/T2/T3 system we have now. I want more high-quality armor sets, not just one.
There’s one thing I also want to point out, and that is that initiative is also a part of the Thief’s class mechanic. It’s not one-dimensional in the sense that Steal is all you have, it’s multifaceted in that Steal is only one part of it. Another special class-related value the Thief has is that your offhand skills change based on your main hand, giving access to more tailored skills for weapon sets. When you factor in initiative as a system and the adjusted offhand skills, you find that Steal and its interaction with them (and largely its shadow step functionality) serves as a glue for the class.
In my opinion, compared to, say, the Necromancer or the Warrior, the Thief has a pretty darned good class mechanic.

Then maybe Arenanet should take back the statement of Legendaries being best in slot no matter what patch.
That is irrelevant. The cost of a legendary weapon is far above and beyond the cost of any number of gear improvements they could make over the next 5 years. If you want a legendary, it’s because you want a legendary. If you want best in slot gear only, get an exotic for now and get an ascended weapon when it comes out. It’ll be much less painful than grinding for a legendary when you don’t actually want one.
You forgot to mention threads like these as a possible choice for the “what’s more annoying” question.
Anyway, the JPs should be in their own map so they don’t take up the queues for real WvWers, and, honestly, since legendaries can be displayed in WvW, it makes perfect sense for me to have WvW be a requirement to obtain them. I think that’s fair, and if you don’t like it, you shouldn’t trouble yourself getting one. I’m sure if you want pure PvE, you can get an ascended weapon in PvE down the road when they add them.
Try Lifeblood Dye. It looks so much like blood it’s in the name!
Are you sure that you’re properly tagging them? I got loot and experience from one last night, but it may be because I was attacking it the whole time (before and after vengeance was activated). It’s possible that only tagging it before the Vengeance doesn’t reward loot if it dies while in Vengeance, but that’d require some more testing. When I get home tonight I’ll see if I can’t firewash some Warriors and find out.
I totally agree with a stack of ecto for the final cosmetic upgrade, but 250 ecto for the AR is rough. I think having an alternative for only that step would be sufficient, and like I said, I think it would need to be extremely difficult to achieve in its own right. I’d happily farm towards 250 pristine fractal relics if they could be used like that.
The condition cap is a design choice centered on PvP.
Really? That’s interesting. I’d be curious to see the source for that. It’s not that I don’t believe you, but I’m curious why that is. I play WvW a lot, and, honestly, if you’re taking enough heat that you get 25 stacks of bleeding from a dozen sources, you’re either going to clear it and attempt an escape or go down anyway. I don’t think removing the cap would negatively affect that game format. SPvP, hrm.. Maybe. Either way it’d be interesting to read more about.
I think it would be very cool if I could watch the battle from another player’s perspective while dead in-combat. That way I could still participate in the battle and give advice, or could at least be entertained while they finish whatever.
Bumping this for any others interested in this type of guild! Don’t hesitate to send me a PM even if you’re only slightly interested. I’d be happy to talk to anyone about the guild.
I agree that group planning ameliorates some of the issue here, but the problem that it can happen at all is indeed an issue. I believe the condition stacks are in place for technical reasons, and that ANet should indeed put effort into removing those limitations. It’s important that all builds be encouraged, but right now, condition builds are far and away worse in PvE than Power-based builds.
So, my stance is that this is definitely a problem they need to resolve, but that there is a work-around for now.
Warriors who die after Revenge give loot and experience, and do count for the WvW kills title. I can corroborate this both as a Warrior and fighting against other Warriors. Furthermore, a Warrior can rally on other kills mid-Vengeance, and can rally others if he dies from Vengeance. I have seen both instances happen many, many times.
My point stands. If ANet lowers the cost in any way for anything in the game (not just capacitors), if you demand a refund for your prior purchase of that item, your demand is unfounded. ANet can and will change the supply and demand of items how they see fit to best serve the economy. I imagine it would suck to buy 250 Powerful Blood one day only to have a patch the following day that doubles their supply (this happened to people), but that’s how things work.
Keep in mind that I highly doubt ANet will change the difficulty to obtain the capacitors. They may offer alternatives to 250 ecto, but I imagine if they do that it will be difficult alternatives, like 250 pristine fractal relics or something along those lines. ANet is keenly aware of the “value” of items and the “value” they want items to have.
I despise these creatures. They annoy me to no end, and I take great pleasure in killing them whenever I can.
Remember that you draw increased aggro with higher Toughness. Many conditionmancers run Rabid armor, which boosts Toughness, making you a much bigger priority for enemy AI. The same is also true when you run Soldier’s armor.
Because you can only list the unchanged variant on the TP, and if they weren’t soulbound after applying the rune / sigil, you’d be able to sell modified versions of the items.
Also, note that when you add a rune / sigil to an item, you get a pop up saying explicitly “this action will make the item soulbound to you.” You had to click to proceed from that screen, so there’s really no one to blame but yourself.
Not only that, some crafting (amulet to be exact) are already soulbound as soon as they appeared in the inventory….even if you don’t need them and didn’t equiped them….hence useless to craft since you cannot do anything with them but destroy them.
Crafted jewelry is Soulbound on Use, not Soulbound. You can verify this by searching for them on the TP.
If they do reduce the amount of materials required, your request for returned money would be totally unfounded. You would have paid the premium to have the equipment for longer than those who did not. What you are saying is tantamount to saying “I spent 2000 gems on the digital deluxe upgrade, but then they put it on sale for 1600 gems! I want my 400 gems back!” Sorry, but you don’t get them back.
Krytan Fried Chicken, hahaha.
Yes, it’s legal, but it’s still totally unnecessary. Just wait two weeks and you can pug-smash Simin like any other dungeon boss.
