What most amusing is that Blizzard had admitted in D3 that gear hunt would be unsustainable end game and there were hints that their new next-gen MMO might have a gear cap. Would be ironic that Anet tries copy Wow and Blizzard took GW2 original idea of gear cap and made it big and become the next big MMO and got credited with it.
There are MMOs before Wow that had no gear treadmill, it was only when Wow came it popularize the gear treadmill to the point people equate MMO = gear treadmill, and hence alot of people equate any MMo with gear treadmill to be more or less Wow clone.
If I wanted to play a MMO with gear treadmill, I might as well go to the one that is the best and spent years refining the treadmill system.
And it’s probably not going to get any better any time soon once the new dungeon is out. Someone did some calculations on another thread that it takes 70+ hours to grind enough tokens to buy ONE piece of ascendant gear. Expect those people that normally roam Orr will be camping in Lion’s Arch farming for their ascendant gear for next couple weeks till they get all their stuff. Orr will have alot less people for some time.
I guess we’ll have to see when it comes out but this system do allow for both forms of progression either new tiers and within tier, which is a gear grind.
It’s not just one tier, in that post by arenanet, it’s the FIRST level that is coming, which implies there will be more coming and all future armors coming will be using the ascended system.
Throwing in CD in for consideration to help in our rebuilding. Even after several guilds had left, we still have a strong night presence but needs more people on other timezones. With your guild’s active time, you can go to sleep knowing all your holdings that you have taken/upgraded and siege engines built will remain defended for another 8+ hours.
And it won’t help people liking GW2 dungeons anymore this month when there will be alot more people doing dungeons for the first time who are there only to get that achievement out of the way and don’t really like/want to be there.
I think mainly because the spawn times for the dragons are predictable (most of the time), travelling around via asura gates is expensive or time-intensive if we hoof it. If there was a way to globally see the spawning of the other map bosses other than going to the map itself, more people would probably do them.
Plus those dragons got better chest rewards which covers the the cost of gate travel to that map.
i think the main complaint about mesmer portals is that it is currently exploiting the current rendering issues that GW2 has. People that comes out of mesmer portals are render last and hence anyone around the portals would not be able to see them for a few seconds and get killed without seeing what attacked them.
Imagine if arenanet reverse the rendering logic, making anyone that comes out of mesmer portals render first, hence people that comes out of portal will see only themselves but cannot see anyone else around them for a few seconds while people that are around the portals will see the attackers pouring out of portals first and get a few free hits in before they are seen by the portal invaders. There would be far less complains about the mesmer portal issue.
