Really not bad idea, but it reminds me of DOTA somehow…
Still, I would suggest to rework WvW model, since it requires tons
of improvements, than creating brand new gamemode which will
be more likely broken at start…
Guys, it’s kinda funny how you point to wrong meaning of “ranger”
since there are thousands of interpretations of this term, and LoTR
or school education have nothing to do with this since we are dealing
here with GAME, which is GW2, and person must be blind not to notice
that Ranger in GW2 is directed more towards ranged combat since his
melee skills aren’t that good as Warrior’s for example.
Seriously, I’m not saying that ranger must ride on horse with hat and
two colts, and yes, in MOST RPG games ranger really uses ranged combat,
nothing wrong with it.
P.S. I don’t see how “spiritual and druidy nature oriented” can be fitted with
Greatsword brutally smashing his enemies… ROFL*
As I was observing classes when I first launched this game, it was very surprising
to me that Ranger (this means ranged, right?) Don’t have access to pistols,
fine, but RIFLE?! Seriously? But instead Ranger can wield Greatsword, how more
wierd it might seem? Greatsword can carry Warrrior/Guardian/Ranger/Mesmer,
4 classes in total, but Rifle can wield only Warrior and Engineer, isn’t that a bit off
the logic? I don’t question Ranger’s skills for Greatsword, they are fine, but having
this weapon and not having other ranged ones is just nonsense, seriously…
I hoped back then that it’s just not added for some reason yet, but even no talks
about it?
Please add.
I don’t think switching weapons is good idea for ele to be honest, devs could cut
our ability to utilize some sigils at their maximum in return, which other classes
cannot. It’s really nice advantage, and we still can swap weapons out of combat.
I always keep Staff with S/D in my backpack.
Things that really have to be fixed:
1) Fire Trait line. Used only for very specific builds, overall effectiveness
is highly arguable.
2) Staff Ele for PvP… Unsteady Ground – only PvE mobs cannot avoid it and take
some punishment from it, Eruption – a joke? Gust – even after recent patch, still
anyone with open eyes avoids it with no problem, Ice Spike – you can slowly walk
out of it’s field, but even if you are too lazy to do so, no big deal, dmg is minimal.
Some issues too, but those should be taken care of somehow.
Many players proposed to give Eruption early blast option in return of extended CD,
fair trade if you ask me. Unsteady Ground must be extended somehow, this small
strip can’t hurt anyone, condition dmg is laughable + everyone have few condition
removers, so it won’t hurt. And I don’t know what to do to Ice Spike, but I switch to
water only for the fields, not this nonsense…
First of all – staff ele is complete failure in any form for PvP, it requires insane
controls where any guardian, or atleast S/D ele builds are like god-mode
compare to this. Staff ele has pretty much skills that are completely useless
in modes, where players aren’t bots and they can evade/move away.
Signets may only be good for their passives in PvP, but it’s still not worth it,
I’d rather go with anything else.
That one was rather funny, but I had to start the mission anew.
Thing is: I cut the way by jumping down, probably full squad followed
me there, but I don’t have any clue how they died in air, but not on the
ground if that was falling damage…
I coundn’t revive Trahearne, and he was meant to follow me down, so
anything I did failed, tho it was almost end of the quest.

I’m using this build, suits me pretty well, but this build is highly dependant on certain
gear maximizing prec/power and crit dmg.
Along with decent dmg output it provides some opportunities for survival, might try,
quite easy to play. Shown itself great for me in PvE dunges and WvW.
P.S. I often switch signet of fire to arcane wave, depends on what I do.
I have a few Guild Discovery consumables and two Letters of Commendation,
so I have a question, if I use this items for current guild, will these influence
points I gain vanish if I leave current guild and join another?
using staff ele build, it works the same way, damage is the same, but radius of every
strike is bigger, so there can be no complaints about it since meteor shower took fine
buff.
Staff is truly very good for PvE, but in the lower lvls I’ve been running S/D, quite
effective to use, I’d say most easy and handy weapon set of ele. With staff you
need to get hang of it’s skills, some are really tricky to use, and to maximize
effectiveness you need gear with specific stats.
You can’t seriously speak about survivabilty in any possible Ele’s build.
Lowest hp and armor can’t be made up with any possible gear or buffs
you get. To survive as ele you just have to move alot, watch your positioning,
try to stay as far from sources of damage as you can, deal dmg and provide
support to the group.
I currently run mostly damager build with staff focused of crit%/dmg and power,
still, I can provide decent support like regen, auras and removing conditions.
As we play only against brainkitten ts in dungeons, it’s really easy to keep them
under consant damage, in your fields and etc. With my build + gear I do insane
ammonts of damage to everything, often I do most damage in groups, sometimes
second after zerk war, but considering my AoE range, it’s not much less.
0/30/10/10/20 works just like a charm after recent patch.
I’m not sure that applying blood in game like GW2 would affect rating of this game,
as it can be count among effects. Some enemies are turned into liquid on death, that
can be easily taken as blood.
With GW2 graphical style it would fit just fine, like strokes of the paint brush.
And you can’t miss when your hp drops low, screen gets red, drawing some
resemblance of bleeding.
I was always wondering, why there’s no blood visual effects in this game?
We have Bleeding condition, but no actual bleeding, only numbers dropping
from body which is kinda wierd, and for most classes, especially Thief/Warrior,
blood visuals would make combat way more spectacular, isn’t it?
I mostly play as Elementalist, and I see how enemies burning, electicuting and
freezing, it looks great. Death animations of burned/electricuted/etc foes are
also there, but when I use earth magic, or swing huge Greatsword as Guardian,
no blood?…
I haven’t played this game for very long, and maybe there’s some reasons for it,
but I don’t think adding these effects will really affect something drastic. We can’t
seriously speak about violence in this game, can we?
Thanks for the tips, but I guess Divinity isn’t best choice for me, + to every stat is
great but my crit. damage % is almost 100%, I can’t push it higher.
I considered Scholars Runes but still, I eventually get hit, so it won’t be that effective.
Since I have 0/30/10/10/20 build, I need to push my power as much as I can for better
critical and higher overall dmg. That’s why I chose Baelfires in the first place.
Still, Ogre’s seems as a good choice, gotta try it.
Need a tip about rune set for crit/precision staff ele build.
Currently I’m using full set of Superior Runes of Baelfire, tho it seems not
so effective. I’m thinking on Superior Runes of Fire set, I guess fire aura is
more effective than Nova.
Suggestions?
(edited by Senticon.3452)
Idk about you, OP, but my Ele is 150% more effective underwater than he is on the ground. Funny thing is, his strongest attunement underwater is actually Water, most
damaging + gives good insta-regen w/ soothing mist, not saying about weapon of mass
destruction in form of Tornado…
So no extended blast range of every Meteor as it was said in leaks?…
If they don’t cut casting time of most spells, the staff ele still will be
screwed…
I’ve seen many concepts of tree-people/fairies myself on some arts and etc, but it’s
kinda strange when games released with pretty small interval, had almost the same
setting and almost same concepts of Fae/Sylvari just with different names, tho it’s
first time I encounter this kinda race in a game.
As for uglyness, I don’t really find any differnce between them in KoA or GW2 since
games are almost on the same level of graphics + as KoA being a singleplayer and
mostly storybased, they showed Fae in more depth than it is in GW2 IMO.
Someone who probably guessed by the name of the thread what I’m gonna talk about surely have been playing “Kingdoms of Amalur Reckoning” game.
It’s too obvious about relations of these two races across these games, and I want to know more about it. In Kingdoms of Amalur Fea was introduced pretty well, they showed their culture, cities, beliefs, etc there was Summer and Winter Courts (relation to ordinary Sylvari and Nightmare Sylvari). These creatures looks almost the same in both games, they have similar structures and philosophy.
Is there something more to it, or this is just simple coincidence? Because there’s only in
these two game I’ve came across these plant-humans, not to say that setting of both games is very close.
So, who stole who’s ideas? =)
I started up with human ele, because in most RPG-like games with option to create a charater, I always going with human mage, appearances change a bit according to customization options, but I try to keep it all alike.
My human ele is now lvl 80 and looks so sexy, even more than most females lol, some
light armors are just super-beatiful in this game for mages.
But as the second character I wanted brutal warrior, so I picked Norn with darkskin,
dreads hairstyle, beard and tatoos, made him Guardian, and now trying to make him
look like some juggernaut with heavy armor pieces. Looks cool.
Now I’ve been playing in WvWvW for some time and want to share some fresh look at it which very well fits the thread name.
It’s kinda fun playing in striking groups, assaulting enemy towers and etc, but when it comes to zerg vs zerg fight, like for the main Keep, it’s just loosing any sense…
Hundreds of players from both sides collide in pretty small area like throne room,
and even if you run NASA computer, you’ll get maybe 5 FPS at this rate, zerg just
running here and there, players fall in this raids like flies, noone can control actual
combat, just run with zerg and swing weapon, after an hour of this pitifull slideshow,
the side who had more ppl simply wins, running over and over other group.
I haven’t ever seen any real openfield fight that require some skill, mostly it looks like this: we run like crazy all stacked on commander, far away seeing small group of enemies, running over them (without actual beating or fight), then run for rest 20-30
minutes and striking at some fort, there comes 3 times larger enemy zerg group that running over us, without any actual fight, those who are lucky of us are flee or wp at base,
than we stack on commander once again and run for another 10-30 mins by the same
scenario. Sometime we stack up on commander knowing about attack, we face other zerg, if ours is bigger we run over enemy and win, if not – vice-versa.
I have tryied roaming, so that’s seemed ridiculous too. If I see more than two players,
there’s no chance I win, so run or wp, if I encounter small group or lonely player and with my friends, enemies are 90 % dead, 10 % they might get away.
Can anyone honestly explain me the point of this mode? Because it has awesome potential, but when there are more than 100 lvl 80 players on one side, there can
be no battle just stupid stomping each other. If there would be some areas with
restricted combat zones with numbers like 20 on 20, 50 on 50. At the moment this
mode just doesn’t makes any sense in terms of skills or epic battles IMO. Would be
glad to hear, if I don’t see something others do.

Can anyone write down all staff ele’s possible combos with utility skills in this manner?
frozen ground + acrcane wave = frost aura
Because I want to know which ones I missed, and those listings in wiki doesn’t provide
solid info on utility + actual skills.
And I’m just curious, does aquatic helm affect my stats while I’m on the ground
and my cowl while I’m under water?… Couldn’t track any changes in stats section.
hm, funny thing is, I had autoloot disable in attempt not to trash my inventory,
but when I checked it, all the money from mobs is gathering properly, isuue fixed
by autoloot =)
So, I’ve been playing for quite a while now, and even created second character,
and this bug isn’t critical, but still annoying. When I kill some mob during travels,
I usually can pick everything it carries, except for copper, it’s about 50-80 usually,
but still, to remember how much I missed that way, it could be a few golds by now…
It doesn’t happen everytime, but pretty often.
Just wondering, how many ppl have that bug, or it’s just me?
thank you very much.
I really don’t know where to ask it, there should have been some “gameplay
discussion” thread, but surprisingly there isn’t one…
So, I was wondering, does my Magic Find % somehow affect quality of drop
from lockboxes, like orrian ones/black lion chests, or this is pure RNG?
I really need advise on Superior Sigil. My char is staff ele focused on precision/crit build, I’m currently using Superior Air Sigil, and I’m not quite happy with it. Some
ppl say that Superior Fire Sigil is the best way to go, and I want to know why, before spending ~5g on it. I know about AoE, but does it have the same damage as Air one does?
I generally wanna go with Sigils triggering on critical, because of my high %. I won’t
using stacking sigils, because my build is pretty fragile, and I’m getting downed often,
but mostly getting away alive, still will drop all stacks. Switching weapons is obviously
also isn’t an option.
P.S. Mainly PvE/WvW, not PvP .
Tips?
Seriously now, I’m also using staff, but with closer look at Bifrost it sucks in every possible way, my current staff is way better and I bought it for just 5g in Trading Post…
I still don’t know why ppl going through all hell to get some Legendary weapons,
when they have nearly same stats as just exotic ones…
I haven’t spent penny on this game yet, except for the standard edition price,
but I don’t mind doing it when I need to. I have one character lvl 80 in full exotic equipment with awesome stats and looks (thanks to freely given transmutation crystals) and other two lvl 20 and lvl 3, I can buy outstanding weapon with like maximum of 5 gold, which is very close to Legendary one in numbers. I have plenty of freely gained boosts, which I don’t use + I have two professions 400 (one is Cook so I have great boosts when I need those).
This game is incredible in how you can play and be mighty without spending any money, farm in this game isn’t hard at all, you can get what you need (gold included) without much effort. Those items Anet selling in their shop never gives someone an edge or obvious advantage over other players, so I don’t see any problem in this, they can sell whateva they like as long as it won’t break game balance, and it doesn’t yet, hope won’t ever.
With policy like this, I’m even feel bad about not giving real money to Anet just as a token of respect. You won’t find ANY mmo game this fair and player-friendly.
Most of them are pay-to-play (if you won’t pay, you’ll be punching bag for life there),
or monthly subscription (which is obvious shakedown IMO).
P.S. On server I play is nice playing communty as well, pretty hard to come by in internet or some games…
(edited by Senticon.3452)
I have completed personal story, and in my adventures I have colleted over 100 transmutation stones. I maybe used only 2-3 of them, and I don’t have any use for the rest. Is there any way on making atleast small profit on it, like selling/crafting something?
Idea that 10 or 25 stones can be trasformed into Crystal would be great, any info?…
Same here lol, just couldn’t be in game while Molten event was on.
I didn’t thought that this event will completely end. Re-appearing
would be nice.
Another baby Guardian needs advices =)
So, I have ele lvl 80 for PvE/WvW, and I wanted some PvE/PvP class,
Guardian is a best choice for me I guess. For now, I’m learning this class and mostly
focused to PvE. I want tanky/warrior-like build, and I’m stuck with weapon selection.
I like how hammer looks, but it completely sucks compared to greatsword, my lower lvl greatsword does 2-3 times more damage than hammer, it’s not usefull or I miss something?… As second weapon set, I’m pretty much sure with Mace+Shield, still some tips would be great. In traits I planned 10/0/30/30/0, but after closer look and forced to go with greatsword as main weapon, seems I’ll have to go 30/0/10/30/0. How good/bad is it? With utility skills I’m not sure yet, haven’t even half of them, and unable to test, so
this is outta discussions for now.
@Thrashbarg
Hmm, actually didn’t thought about piercing shards that way, since cleansing wave isn’t much of a help. Is it affects maybe Glyphs (like Storm one) or only my own spells?
Gotta test it myself though, but I definitely gonna stick with this.
Anyway, after some tinkering my build is now looks more like this:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fEAQFAWhImSbsR5gjEAkCpEKcg4RFW4QRxM7A
I realized that I lack attack power in Air Magic, and since I mostly go AoE
Chain Lightning more effective that way + Lightning Surge does good dmg
to single target especially with lucky crit. And I really can’t find use for Zephyr’s
Boon since I have only one skill that gives me aura, and I don’t use it so often.
With Piercing Shards I’ll gonna switch elements even more, so Elemental Attunement
should give me decent boost there. And I think I gonna leave 10 points in fire as I
need to squeeze any damage that I can, and I’ll compensate lack of toughness/vitality
with gear + Chief prof. buffs.
Anyway, that’s what I think, still need proper testing, spotting any potential mistakes
would be welcome.
@Blaine Tog
If I would stick with only one element (like fire) my build would surely be different,
but I’m trying to be more all-round with every element. Mainly I aim for higher crit
and I will get it with right equipment.
Mostly my char. is PvE and WvWvW oriented. It would be funny build for PvP,
since I would go with Dagger/Focus and completely other type of build.
With my DD orientation, I still need to support my party, that’s why it isn’t
30-30-0-0-10.
(edited by Senticon.3452)
Thank you for the tips, I thought maybe 5% > healing is good buff for water magic
as I mostly switch attunements fast in combat, but I didn’t really had time to test
it properly.
If I remove 10 points from fire, I’m afraid I will lose in power > dmg,
and that is critical for me, and it’s really good call to change to 5% burning,
somehow didn’t thought about it.
What about Iscription (grants attunement boon when cast a glyph) in Air Magic?
I have 2 glyphs I cast pretty often with low cd.
My character currently is ele 80 and my skills/traits are like this:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fEAQFAWhImSbsR5gjEAkCmEKQg4RFWgRRRO7A
I wear full Carrion Exalted gear +Power/ + Vitality/ + Condition Damage
(all Carrion Intricate Insignias) and this probably is a mistake, but I’m
experimenting anyway. Was hoping to cover lower power with condition
dmg, but this isn’t work as I intended.
Which Insignias would you suggest for Ele focusing on crits?
I have pretty good crit chance since I go full Air MagicTraits + Fire Signet,
so I’m thinking on Valkyrie or Knight Insignias, I still need some vitality or
toughness bonuses to survive, but I also need maximize my damage.
Haven’t played for quite some time really, probably missed some patches,
when I played last time, my build was pretty usefull, don’t know what changed.
but I hope this build is still viable.
Any tips would be welcome.
