When I logged on for the last time (last week), several more servers were set to “Full”. So I do think the population is dwindling. =/

I logged in last Sunday night. 60% of the Severs are FULL. I logged in this Monday night. 10% of the Severs are FULL. The population is surely dwindling, Very fast.
I just checked Amazon, see the attachment. The game is merely #2 best seller. I mean, 1 months after release and it can not stay as #1? Even MOP is hanging around #7 right now. You know, the game is surly dying.

So who here uses xfire?

I don’t know anyone who does.

I guess people who use xfire are more likely to be those who spend a lot of their time in gaming. It is natural for those who have played for over 200 hours during the first month to get bored and decided to take a break.
But they are far from representative for most of the player base. A casual player who spend 2hrs a day in gaming will need at least three months to reach 200 hours play time. And casual player is always by far the dominant force on gaming market.

Google “Sales Numbers Mists of Pandaria” for a round up of analysis. But, in short, box sales of the expansion fell well below expectations (down 60% from Cataclysm). At this point, they seem to unsure it that is due to poor sales overall, or a shift to digital sales, or both. In fairness, I can’t remember the last game I bought in a store.

Since you can’t remember the last game you bought in a store, you are certainly not among the “shift” to digital sales between Cata and MOP.

A somewhat related fact.
The stock price of Activision Blizzard (ATVI) is dropping to a point that is just 5 cents above its 52 week low today.
http://www.google.com/finance?q=NASDAQ%3AATVI&ei=OLJpUODoJqrB0QH8_AE
And this is just 6 days after the release of MOP.
So, chances are, WOW is getting killed, by GW2, maybe.

Just check the server statues on peak hours. Nearly 40% of them are FULL. All other servers except for two are HIGH.
If you are not having enough ppl in a certain area, the problem is not because of low server population. Most likely due to the fact people are all spread out right now.
Also, just checked Amazon. GW2 is still the 2nd best seller in PC games right now. Even higher than MOP. There may be a lot of people who have left and or are leaving, but there is also a lot of people that have come or are coming. So most of the severs still remains on High-Full load.

WoW do have a meaningful Rating/Ladder system. GW2 doesn’t. That is the biggest problem of GW2 PvP right now.

GW2’s is coming. It’s already been confirmed.

Just “coming” is not enough. This is an essential feature that should be there since day 1. One month after release, we still see no time line on this.

I miss my Gear Grind

GW2 was not meant to be played for 100 hours a week.
That said. I do agree that they need more content for lvl 80 people. Legendary is too far a leap. They should just make different tiers of Legendary and let people get them one by one.
Also sPvP is a mess right now. There is no real form of competition, so no motivation for people to keep playing. They should just bring back GW1’s RA/TA/HoH format if they cant come up with something better.
Duel, GvG and personal/team/Guild ladders are certainly things that needs to be implanted as soon as possible in order to keep the PvP crowd around.

Leave it to me to create a title that begs to be flamed.

Look, GW2 is a different kind of MMO. The problem is that most of the people playing it are used to the MMO scene and there’s certain things we’ve come to expect. Working hard for better gear is one of those things. I’m a power and stat guy, which means I typically like to min-max, and I care much more about power and stats than appearance.

When I hit level 80, I had enough money within a week to get a full set of crafted exotics. From a power/stat perspective, I’m done. I have the ‘best’ gear in the game. This means there’s no real carrot for me to chase now. Yes, i could farm for legendaries or dungeon gear, but 1) legendary is WAY too big of a jump. Give me something to do in between now and then so I don’t lose focus, and 2) I haven’t seen a way to get cooler looking gear. Level 80 exotic weapons should not look like total crap, but my exotic scepter is a stick with a bulb on it. So much for “exotic”.

I know, I know, this is how it worked in GW1. you get the best gear soon and you just re-skin it. But guess what? GW1 wasn’t that popular. They did dungeons and scripted events really well, but otherwise could take a page from some of the MMO kings in the business.

So please Arenanet, I had a great time playing your game, but give me a reason to log in and grind. Right now I have 40g and absolutely nothing to spend it on. I can save up 100g for commander or 500+ for a legendary, but in a game where most people are scrounging to save 50 silver, I should feel rich with my 40g. Instead, I feel like I’ve bought everything worth buying and don’t quite have the motivation to farm for MONTHS before seeing something better.

Give me a way to slowly become more powerful please. I can’t keep playing a game purely for cosmetic enhancements and I suspect a large part of the community feels the same way.

I’ve put in bold font a sentence up there…isn’t that the definition of a grind? Repeating the same content for months to get gear?

“grind” has garnered too much negativity these days. Putting in some work to get a reward is a great idea in games. I’m talking about motivation here. If I need to log in and farm up some dungeons for a week or two to get some great gear, sign me up. But legendary weapons seem to be the only decent thing to shoot for in this game, and right now that grind could take MONTHS with absolutely no return on my investment. I want some shorter term rewards. I want stat bonuses, or some type of quality of life change. I should not need at least 90g before i can see a neat animation on my weapon. Right now, everything (even legendary precursors) looks plain, like something you can buy off of a vendor.

I’m not using the term “grind” negatively. I am, however, using the phrase “grind for months and months with nothing to show for it during the process” negatively.

Ahh ok. I misinterpreted the intent then. I do understand the need for motivation to log in. I think ANet is having to walk a fine line in trying to please all play styles. Right now the end game content is ‘light’ by industry standards insofar as group content and gear go. I have faith that ANet will correct that with upcoming content patches.

All I can say is keep playing! Content will come in time.

I trust them to deliver content> i really do. And they’re the ONLY game i’ve ever played (my list of MMOs is exhaustive!) where I found questing to be interesting and fun.

I just don’t quite know what to do. I am actively trying to train myself out of WoW mode (i havent played wow in over a year, but face it guys this game IS an MMO and with that come expectations and habits that can be tough to break). It does many things well, but they need many more WvW and sPVP features if they want to replace chasing gear and buying crazy lightsaber weapons.

Please just bring back the Random Arena/Team Arena structure in GW1. It is so much better than the Hot-join zerg fest /Free T premade pug stomp we have right now. And it should be easy enough to do so.

Need a Random Queue for Free Tourney

ShRNA.4376

I don’t know what happened over the last couple weeks but now when I queue with my guild premade, we rarely play against guild groups anymore, even on Kyhlo. I don’t know if it’s because more people are joining solo, or less 5s are queuing.

The first couple weeks were great because you’d usually get some randoms the first match, then by the time you got to Kyhlo you knew you’d be in for a good fight against 5 organized people, but now its just pubstomp a lot of the time and I don’t really feel like I’m accomplishing anything through winning.

So I’d like a RA / TA type system. Maybe the tourney winners from the random queue can opt to stay together and be put in 5’ queue if they want, if there is a problem with population for the 5s queue.

Totally agree. The GW1 RA/TA system was the best among all MMOs that I have looked into. It satisfies both solo players and team players. I don’t understand why they abandoned such a good system.

PvP Incentive?

PvP Incentive is to have fun.
But the problem is that the current system is not fun in many aspects. Especially the hot joinable format, which is just a mindless zergfest with no incentive to win at all.
They should just bring back the Random arena format from GW1. It allows you to fight different foes every match, very fast paced, encourage team work from random people by rewarding consecutive wins. It was by far the best PvP format that I have played in any game. I can not understand why they abandoned it in GW2.

This is a good thing, and I hope it doesn’t change.

Yes, please DON’T nerf. It’s frustrating when the fails happen but the satisfaction you get when you finally do it!

I’ve done a number of dungeons now and story/explorable some successful some not and it’s a blast.

It’s too easy for people to come here and say ‘make it easier’ and the game is only a little over a week old -.-

Difficult content is fine. But the reward needs to worth the hassle, which is not case at the moment.
