I would like to see a build check system where:
- You can request to view a player in your party’s gear (stats, skins, upgrades, dyes) and traits, in a window similar to PvP’s build window, by right clicking their name/faceplate.
- You can set to show this info to either: everyone, guild members and friends, friends only, or no one. If a player you are not set to show this info to automatically requests it, you will receive a chat message, and can choose to allow or deny it.
And also a private DPS/stats meter that can be similarly shared. It would be nice to see detailed statistics like damage dealt, damage received, self healing, ally healing, condition damage vs direct damage dealt, attacks interrupted, damage prevented (blinds, blocks, dodges, invulns, etc), number of downs/deaths, revives, etc, but ANet would have to do a lot in terms of server architecture for such a nice tool.
Unfortunately, while it would seem nice to have these be optional, it leads to “Show or Kick” demands – Refusal to show means you have something to hide.
While this would be true in speed/zerk runs, I highly doubt anyone’s going to care enough in other groups. Do you want to be the one in a group of randoms to sound like a kitten by complaining about someone disallowing build check in an unmarked run, and risk kick yourself? For the runs that do require gear checks, this would only speed up filling up group (no waiting on ping gear, giving that one guy 30s or so after he loaded into map to respond, etc), so the only real difference I see would show up in the plainly marked “speed run” groups, which sometimes are filled with players who think their run will be faster because they put speed run in the lfg.
You may get more “your build is bad, run this” type comments in regular runs, but only if players actually have time to spare to stare at other players’ builds. Hardly more than you already see about players running x weapon or y signet, though, and a lot of those types of comments are phrased constructively, anyway.

OP, you might want to take an economics class. You obviously don’t understand inflation. Luckily for you, ANet does keep an economist on staff, and he manages the economy quite well for the most part.
Also, where exactly is all this challenging content you’d like to reward more? Fractals? TPvP? I’d be down with those. Fractals may even get them soon because of the CDI thread. What else is there? Zerg vs Zerg, karma train 2.0, temporary story? No way.
A lot of players will use their pet as a tank while ranging from afar. While this may work in open world PvE, it is about as useless as you can get in a group setting, where everyone shares aggro and attempts to share buffs/heals/etc.
That and there are a lot of PUG rangers who like knocking enemies away from players who are bursting them, using longbow’s point blank shot.
You can prestack might with shield and switch back to rifle before fight. Not really much point in open world though.
Engineers are certainly not bad in dungeons. They can do quite a lot: vuln stacking, might stacking, stealth, healing to top up party’s health for scholar bonus, condition cleansing, AoE blinds… the list goes on. But their damage gets beaten by ele/thief, stealth stacking gets beaten by thief, and reflections get beaten by guard/mes. If a particular path needs stealth skips, a thief is taken. If reflections are needed, a guard is taken. Neither are needed? Bring another ele then, for faster kill times.
Engineers are still amazing in dungeons once your bases are covered, though. A skilled engineer won’t necessarily make your run faster, but it will certainly be smoother. That speed is the problem though— the hardcore dungeon community is all about speed. We all like to pretend we don’t make mistakes, and won’t need the extra health padding an engineer would bring. After all, we’ve done all these paths 50+ times, right? So we’ll sacrifice that for the faster kills an ele/thief would bring.
You want to make Engineers wanted in dungeons?
- Remove the RNG from Toss Elixir U, and leave only wall of reflection. Our only other reliably reflects involve completely respecing prior to a fight, and drops our dps significantly. Turret reflects might be useable when we get build templates, but they certainly aren’t now, and won’t be optimal then.
- Alter BoB and other blast finishers of ours so that they don’t cause revealed if they hit something when blasting a smoke field. This is one of the biggest complaints about our stealth stacking— we can’t stealth anywhere like a thief/mesmer can. Maybe once this is changed people will realize that an engineer’s 12+5 seconds of stealth is more than enough for pretty much every skip out there.
With these 2 changes, engineers would be able to reliably fill both stealth and reflection roles, and would see use in both speed runs and record runs.
TL;DR: ANet please
I ran 6/2/0/4/2 with rifle, grenades, elixir s for any orbs I didn’t kill (definitely worth it), and toolkit for block. Speedy kits, invigorating speed, and infused precision for near perma vigor. Full berserker’s, she dropped a lot faster than I expected from just rifle burst, grenade 2,4, and then rifle autoattacking while strafing. Flash grenade is useful as well, as the clones can be blinded so they won’t kill you on contact. Probably could have moved 2 from alchemy to firearms, but her projectiles were hitting for quite a bit in the first phase and I wanted a bit more sustain.
I don’t do tpvp on other professions because I feel like I don’t know them well enough and I would be dragging my team down. Profession-bound MMR would be great.
Take out gadgeteer and move 1 point from tools into firearms. Personal might stacks are worth a lot less than group might stacks, so you’re better off investing in blast finishers instead. That’s not saying utility goggles is a bad skill, it certainly has it’s uses, but you won’t want to run it all the time. Elixir gun provides the same stunbreak on a shorter cooldown, a low cd blast finisher which deals good damage to stationary enemies, and group condi removal. Elixir U… well, I don’t think it’s cooldown warrants its usage over other skills (rifle turret for blast and static discharge for example), but the projectile defense can be useful sometimes. If only it wasn’t 50% smoke field. Consider changing speedy gadgets to kit refinement or speedy kits.
All in all, I still think the 6/6/0/0/2 build brings better damage, but you’re welcome to run what you like.
Hi Phineas,
why do you suddenly prefer the rune of strength over the scholar one? Is it because with the bomb kit, we are not often over 90% hp?
Sorry for my english, i’m french.
Not phineas, but it’s because the increased might duration can actually increase your party’s dps at a small hit to your personal dps. As an engineer, you should be providing might to your party before/during most fights, using blast finishers and fire fields. You can stack 9-12 might easily yourself, and even 18+ stacks if you cheat a little bit and juggle your utilities around while out of combat.
Basically, if your team isn’t at 25 might stacks 80+% of the time, you should use strength. They are pretty expensive though.
Overcharging provides about half the healing Healing Turret has to offer. If you’re not overcharging your healing turret right after putting it down, you’re seriously missing out. After you overcharge, you should either pick it up to reduce the turret’s cooldown to 15s, or detonate it for the extra ~1k heal from blasting its water field.
Bit of an off question, but how much of ice bow 4’s damage occurs after the channel finishes? Would using Elixir X immediately after it provide a significant damage increase?
I like how I can see the glow of my balth backpiece through my hobosacks, but I would prefer just to see my backpiece. Also, why can’t I get the glow effect while shield is stowed? It’s a pain to keep shooting things or equip rifle to do dark rooms in jumping puzzles.
I hate to be the guy who derails the OP-faceroll/not OP-faceroll train, but could someone explain the main strengths/weaknesses/combos of the current D/D ele? They seem to be a pain to fight, but that may just be because I don’t know what exactly to dodge/interrupt and when to unload condis onto them.
On a mostly unrelated note, if anyone actually does want to do any 5 engi speed runs, please invite me.
That full asc set I made for her just might get some use =d
I don’t know, but when I was leveling up ranger who knows how many years ago, I thought the beastmastery line looked great because of the shear stat gain for pet. Too bad all the traits suck.
I would like some complex, recurring characters with interesting backstories. I would also like to be able to learn about the characters and locations in Tyria I visit without having to go far out of my way, and I would like to feel like my actions have a significant impact on the world— that is, not seeing the same event come around not 20 minutes later.
I realize these things are not easy to implement, but I feel that the story is currently the weakest part of GW2. After a while, “X is attacking Y!” gets really boring.

Are we PUGing in the same game?
Bank + TP please. With the new reward tracks, we get a ton of items which we may want to sell, collect, or move to other characters. Most of us would rather spend our time playing Guild Wars 2 instead of Loading Wars 2, or Oh-god-why-didn’t-I-buy-an-SSD Wars 2.
Best feeling you can get in gw2.
Beautiful.
I believe the general consensus is that OP never delivers.
Did the tears taste any good, hendo?
So you’re mad that players speed clear dungeons? Again, you don’t have to play with these players. If you join an unmarked party where players try to ‘force’ (what does this even mean?) you to play berserker’s, you can ignore them or leave. You can choose who you play with, as can everyone else.
Those players you see searching for ‘exp berserker’s ping gear’? Depending on the dungeon, they’re probably not finishing faster than most of the unmarked posts. The reason you see them is because they do not fill quickly. Why do it then? It’s because they enjoy playing through dungeons quickly with like-minded individuals.
If there’s anything ‘toxic’ here, it’s your irrational hatred of players running content they way they want to— a way that is not affecting you at all.
Edit: changed ‘effecting’ to ‘affecting’
Pros to stacking(against a wall):
- Gathers enemies in one location, so all your AoEs hit fully
- Non-boss enemies can be easily blinded by AoE blinds by Guardians, Thieves, Engineers, Necromancers
- Easy boon sharing/combo field bursting
- Certain skills can be used to high effect due to wall/enclosed space (EG FGS rush)
- Dodges against a wall do not displace your character— you can continue to attack without having to move back into place
Cons to stacking:
- Enemy attacks will hit most if not all of your team
- Boss animations can be hard to see through all the particle effects
Stacking is not the best tactic for everyone. Players with abnormally high ping, or players who cannot detect boss animations/major skills, will not be effective stacking. If you are one of these players you may wish to explain that to your group, or run with a premade group that avoids stacking.
What don’t you understand?
(and don’t tell me that’s just an AC seen, I’ve been in three different dungeons now)
My genuine advice to you: get off the forums and experience some new dungeons. If you don’t already have one, find and join a large guild and ask players to play through the dungeons you haven’t done yet with you. Repeat this for a couple weeks. Then come back and post here if you still feel the need.
New thread because I have no idea what happened to the last one and forum search still does not work.
The old login screen/launcher was beautiful. Fullscreen, with Jeremy Soule’s beautiful music playing, an artistic and dynamic first impression for your GW2 experience. Video here By comparison, the new launcher is static, with only the addition of the news feed which is rarely used outside of major game updates and gem sales.
After the move from the old login/launcher to our current one, there was included a way to revert to the old login screen, by including -useoldlauncher on run or in your GW2 shortcut. However, this option was removed in late 2012, with no reasons given.
Please bring this option back.
TIL I actually haven’t been playing GW2 all along.
But seriously. If a majority of players are saying a build is bad/unwanted for certain content, there’s usually a reason. I don’t care if you run your all-staff guard/necro or bearbow ranger in dungeons. Just don’t run them in my parties, and respect the wishes of the players whose parties you do run them in. You are not the only player in a group.
Gw2dungeons is a site filled with information compiled by the dedicated players that post in this forum, mostly. It’s now hosted by dulfy, who runs dulfy.net, a popular GW2/ESO information site. The site (gw2dungeons) contains strategies for every dungeon path and should be mentioned in our FAQ sticky. If it isn’t, it needs to be.
Edit: Just checked, it is, about halfway down the page. Be nice if it was higher/in the first post of the ‘new to dungeons’ thread as well, but whatever.
Bumping for great justice. Also, could this thread be sticky’d?
gw2dungeons.net has information on the attacks of most if not all bosses, including animation details and cooldowns. If you want to see them in action, you can find videos of every path on youtube, and you can find videos of individual fights for most hard bosses— and tons for lupicus.
We have a thread with optimal slaying potion/sigil setups here somewhere, let me see if I can find it.
Edit: Apparently I can’t hotlink. Or edit.
Edit #??: Sigil thread is here, and I have bumped it.

Anyone who says other specs aren’t viable is flat out wrong. Take the cleric’s no-dodge arah video that gets linked all the time here as example. Anyone who says other compositions than the berserker’s meta are optimal are equally wrong, unless they care to show some proof in the form of math/videos.
There will always be people who look down on certain builds, and this is evident in all game modes. The reason is usually because these builds significantly underperform, or because of certain skills being misused by a large percentage of the community. People who say ‘build x sucks’ certainly aren’t helping, but please at least think when someone offers reasons to why a build is suboptimal and suggests alternatives. Remember that you are not the only player on your team, and when playing with randoms you may find players who are unsatisfied by your play style— and that is perfectly within their rights.
Also it isn’t our fault that ANet left out almost all forms of group support on necromancers. Sorry, but they do not stand up to other professions in that respect. Complain about it on the Necromancer or Profession Balance forums if you like.
Where exactly are we ‘forcing’ players to use berserker’s? The vast majority of parties advertised on the LFG system (excluding maybe arah, given how hellish it is to PUG and the number of sellers) are not berserker’s only. Seriously, there are a ton of groups who will take you, and even if there aren’t any, you can still make your own. You can even advertise for no stacking/skipping. It isn’t rocket science. Some players enjoy doing content fast, some don’t— no one side is oppressing the other, stop trying to make out as if they are.
I don’t pretend to know what everyone runs, and people will probably argue with me, but here are some popular and (mostly) effective ones:

I would rather have more access to stunbreakers that don’t break my skill bar than stability. That said, even with protection injection and stabilizing armor, stun/fear chains are ridiculously strong.
I’d like to place a bet of 50g on hendo. Who do I send the money to/when?
I cannot count the number of times this has happened to me:
The game is just about to start. I’m in hot join testing some build or another, and there is only 1 other player on our team so far. I move towards the gate leading to our home node. The other player follows me, so I turn and move towards the other gate instead. The other player turns and begins following me again. By the time I finish telling the other player not to follow me to an empty node, the other team is already capping both far and mid (or home).
I use hotjoin for build testing, not to teach players basic splits or how conquest works. ANet, please give us an unranked queue.

6/6/0/0/2 is great in dungeons, don’t listen to xyonon. Just remember you may have to spam your toolbelt skills to get the endurance needed for that extra dodge. Berserker’s will give you the best damage by far— assassins’ is actually got the bad end of the crit damage changes. With any luck your dungeon groups will be providing fury and banner of discipline, which will give you more than enough crit chance.
hmmmm….
RISE
You.. I… fine. But you’d better share the popcorn.
About the only thing you can do is interrupt their heal, and dodge a couple key attacks. You won’t win against them often. They have too much health when you add in death shroud, and they cleanse conditions easily. If you absolutely must fight them without a numbers advantage, make sure to use supply crate.
This is the video I used for reference. If you want a bit of a buffer you can also deploy a consumable mortar, which will buy you a few more seconds of time.
I based my run off of that one as well. The only differences were that I stacked less might beforehand and reversed the order of meteor shower/lava font for the first burrow (seemed to work better). I’ll try mortar next time, then. Does it have a cooldown like fire elemental/rock dog now?
Bit off topic, but could anyone help me with the burrows part solo on ele? I can’t seem to get to the last burrow before hodgins dies. If I drop FGS right after the NW and west burrows, drop lava font on hodgins, then ice bow the southwest corner burrow, I can get to the last one, but I have nothing to kill it with at that point except meteor shower, but hodgins (or me) will be killed by graves before that finishes.
Probably unrelated, but my group had to redo p3 the other day because end cutscene/reward didn’t show up after killing rumblus. The only thing I could think of is that we killed him too fast and the npc’s didn’t get a chance to hit him… really weird.
The font I see on these forums when using Firefox is ridiculous, and makes it rather hard to read posts (pic below). I can fix this by disallowing custom fonts on websites, but this naturally screws up other websites. Any help?
Edit: Resolved. Browser wasn’t allowing scripts from (some randomly generated alphanumerical sequence).cloudfront.net.
(edited by Sins.4782)
Grast is pretty reliable with his bubble nowadays. He can die quickly sometimes— and when he’s dead, Rumblus’ rock summoning move brings down 3-4x as many rocks as when he’s alive. Used to need to bring a res skill to solo him, but he dies so much faster since the feature patch, so this really shouldn’t be a problem for anyone anymore. One semi-decent ele with an ice bow should be more than enough to kill him now, even if everyone else there is terrible.
PUGs don’t deal damage either. 1.25 × 0 is still 0. Personal damage is what you should care about most. Also, Toss Elixir R is a great revive.

ANet please
You would do higher damage, but with pretty much no toughness. If you’re going to die whenever someone with a power build so much as glances at you, you may as well just play SD burst. It might work with 0/4/4/6/0 though.
