Some fights are tank and spank, but take the Mossman in the swamps fractal. I’m at level 14, and there is a noticeable difference to being aware and avoiding getting one shot…even for a tank and spank type fight. I’m finding that old being “raid aware” as the fights get harder. So even if it seems tank and spank on some fights early on in levels; it can go south quickly in higher levels if your not paying attention!

Other fights I notice the higher you go in levels more adds spawn on boss, and of course agony is something to consider.

The runs themselves are awesome. I would say the fractal with the giant is my favorite. You have to carry a hammer up the Cliffside to break the seals holding the giant. While the boss fights here seem tank and spank with hammer interaction, the whole fractal itself is filled with fun challenges working your way up and breaking seals. It really gets down to having good group involvement.

Another nice aspect of leveling fractals; is that the higher you go in levels; pugs actually get better!

I think the fractals are a very good indicator of a positive future of pve content going forward! I feel that in future fights we will see less tank and spank for bosses and more strategy involved for fighting, just based off the fun elements that anet put into running the fractals themselves. They offer again good group interaction and good teamwork!

As you level up in Fractals Lichy it feels more and more like a raid fight. Even though it is only 5 man; I am having a lot of fun with fractals. You start seeing some ascended tier gear drop after level 10, and after level 20 some nice weapons start dropping as well.

Why would I even bother with current gear if I know there will be a new set before I will be able to complete the current one?

The point I was trying to make was reaching a middle ground so that Ascended Gear is more of a choice for those that want to pursue higher levels of the fractals and get new sets…not like how you implied.

I understand where you are coming from for how you like to play; by taking your time to get gear. Which you can do still, but why would the current batch of exotics from dungeon runs not work for you? You act like you are a super casual, but want all the benefits of playing on a regular basis.

You are still able to do everything else in game with Ascended Gear in the mix, and you aren’t being penalized for not playing. The thing that is getting under my skin is that your side of the fence is saying your way or the highway….I’m just trying to find some middle ground that works for everyone.

And to answer your question that I quoted: Why not? The sets in game right now are awesome! And you can use those skins to reskin other gear if you want.

If the angle your aiming for is how much would I need to spend to offset the loss of people leaving over this…my answer would be the new customers brought on.

I just want to reiterate that I can see why some people are upset looking at it from the surface.

But let’s be honest. You can run every fractal and the boss in game w/o ascended gear. I’m going out on a limb here but I bet future fractals will have the same accessibility. If they make it so you can only get a sweet looking set from running these, I am fine with that. I’m still building my 2nd dungeon set for my main in the original dungeons.

WvW stats that people are upset about don’t make sense to me when some groups use feasts or run with characters under 80 (it’s true!) WvW is so much fun, but honestly a 10 v 10 fight with people that got ascended gear and just wvw a little vs 10 level 60s that live off WvW are going to mop the ascended group to the ground. Another view point of skill vs gear.

The manifesto that everyone is so hot about was a marketing piece with best intentions. You still have to grind….if you choose….to level, gain gold/ karma, get your legendary, etc.

I tried to meet in the middle with my idea for ascended gear. I would like to see everyone happy, but I just don’t get why this has become such a hot topic with people claiming to quit or else.

I’m going to say it again about WvW. I’m 91% positive that half the people complaining over stats in WvW don’t run with feasts. One example of feasts: 100+ power, 70+ condition damage, 10% buff to xp. It lasts for an hour and through death. Anybody on your map can grab the buff – the tray stays down for 5 mins. Check that out before you QQ about 20% stat increase from ascended. (I’m expecting some QQ about having to farm gold to get the recipes now)

Some thoughts to appease the masses at least (because minus my sarcasm above I truly want as many people to be happy in this game, I want this game to keep adding players so we can see this game grow!)

Make the extra stats over exotics work in fractals only just like agony, but come up with some offensive slot where the stats would go. This way people that love to run fractals can get a gear treadmill without imploding the supposed majority that is spamming the forums.

Make more fractals – maybe different portals that lead to new sets of these. Add sweet new gear for each new release of a group of fractals! I am super pleased with how they turned out, and really can’t wait to see where this game is this time next year!

I’m trying to understand where all these negative comments are coming from. I feel that this is a smart business decision to attract a massive player base. Bring it on Anet!!!

I really can’t imagine that the playerbase that loves doing the current runs is really that upset, but if so why is that. Some runs are challenging enough just to get a group to run it at times. I personally think the ascended gear opens the door to more players that like to run dungeons. Add to it that when this group finds out its also a nice way to make money; you will have more supply of people looking for easier runs over mists.

This alternative is better than a straight free to play conversion that some of the big hitters have had to make.

Lies, Lies!!!! Every time I read a post like that I laugh. Have you ever had to make a concession in order to get ahead? It’s a business; again please try to remember that.

Again for all those in WvW worried about Ascended gear, you should start looking at feasts/trays/etc in game that give sizable stat buffs to everyone that can click on it. This is directed at those that read this and think feasts??? Haha just wait till you see those stats!

Deep breath; yep this game is still the best I have played in a long time. Keep up the great work Anet!

The Ascended Gear that they used in the Official News Post added a Massive +2 – +3 to the base stats LOL. They are using the infusion slots as a means to progress a gear treadmill for future PVE, and not WvW. I think its a great idea! Keeps people focused on Pve that want to; without unbalancing WvW like you suggest.

Split the playbase? How many times did you kill a level 80 and you were still not max level in WvW?

I would say you probably have more of a split for groups that drop food buffs in WvW than this gear.

Swiftpaw hit the nail on the head, there are still plenty of reasons. Even with a full set of ascended gear down the road; I will be still running dungeons for different stats for different builds / set looks, and helping guildies and friends.

Not to mention running Alts through.

I don’t think it’s as doom and gloom as you think.
